< Deuteronomy 27 >
1 Moses and the elders of Israel commanded the people, saying, "Keep all the commandment which I command you this day.
Then Moses and the elders of Israel commanded the people: “Keep all the commandments I am giving you today.
2 It shall be on the day when you shall pass over the Jordan to the land which the LORD your God gives you, that you shall set yourself up great stones, and plaster them with plaster:
And on the day you cross the Jordan into the land that the LORD your God is giving you, set up large stones and coat them with plaster.
3 and you shall write on them all the words of this law, when you have passed over; that you may go in to the land which the LORD your God gives you, a land flowing with milk and honey, as the LORD, the God of your fathers, has promised you.
Write on them all the words of this law when you have crossed over to enter the land that the LORD your God is giving you, a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the LORD, the God of your fathers, has promised you.
4 It shall be, when you have passed over the Jordan, that you shall set up these stones, which I command you this day, in Mount Ebal, and you shall plaster them with plaster.
And when you have crossed the Jordan, you are to set up these stones on Mount Ebal, as I am commanding you today, and you are to coat them with plaster.
5 There you shall build an altar to the LORD your God, an altar of stones: you shall lift up no iron on them.
Moreover, you are to build there an altar to the LORD your God, an altar of stones. You must not use any iron tool on them.
6 You shall build the altar of the LORD your God of uncut stones; and you shall offer burnt offerings thereon to the LORD your God:
You shall build the altar of the LORD your God with uncut stones and offer upon it burnt offerings to the LORD your God.
7 and you shall sacrifice peace offerings, and shall eat there; and you shall rejoice before the LORD your God.
There you are to sacrifice your peace offerings, eating them and rejoicing in the presence of the LORD your God.
8 You shall write on the stones all the words of this law very plainly."
And you shall write distinctly upon these stones all the words of this law.”
9 Moses and the priests the Levites spoke to all Israel, saying, "Keep silence, and listen, Israel: this day you have become the people of the LORD your God.
Then Moses and the Levitical priests spoke to all Israel: “Be silent, O Israel, and listen! This day you have become the people of the LORD your God.
10 You shall therefore obey the voice of the LORD your God, and do his commandments and his statutes, which I command you this day."
You shall therefore obey the voice of the LORD your God and follow His commandments and statutes I am giving you today.”
11 Moses commanded the people the same day, saying,
On that day Moses commanded the people:
12 "These shall stand on Mount Gerizim to bless the people, when you have passed over the Jordan: Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Joseph, and Benjamin.
“When you have crossed the Jordan, these tribes shall stand on Mount Gerizim to bless the people: Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Joseph, and Benjamin.
13 These shall stand on Mount Ebal for the curse: Reuben, Gad, and Asher, and Zebulun, Dan, and Naphtali.
And these tribes shall stand on Mount Ebal to deliver the curse: Reuben, Gad, Asher, Zebulun, Dan, and Naphtali.
14 The Levites shall answer, and tell all the men of Israel with a loud voice,
Then the Levites shall proclaim in a loud voice to every Israelite:
15 'Cursed is the man who makes an engraved or molten image, an abomination to the LORD, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and sets it up in secret.' All the people shall answer and say, 'Amen.'
‘Cursed is the man who makes a carved idol or molten image—an abomination to the LORD, the work of the hands of a craftsman—and sets it up in secret.’
16 'Cursed is he who sets light by his father or his mother.' All the people shall say, 'Amen.'
‘Cursed is he who dishonors his father or mother.’
17 'Cursed is he who removes his neighbor's landmark.' All the people shall say, 'Amen.'
‘Cursed is he who moves his neighbor’s boundary stone.’
18 'Cursed is he who makes the blind to wander out of the way.' All the people shall say, 'Amen.'
‘Cursed is he who lets a blind man wander in the road.’
19 'Cursed is he who wrests the justice due the foreigner, fatherless, and widow.' All the people shall say, 'Amen.'
‘Cursed is he who withholds justice from the foreigner, the fatherless, or the widow.’
20 'Cursed is he who lies with his father's wife, because he has uncovered his father's skirt.' All the people shall say, 'Amen.'
‘Cursed is he who sleeps with his father’s wife, for he has violated his father’s marriage bed.’
21 'Cursed is he who lies with any kind of animal.' All the people shall say, 'Amen.'
‘Cursed is he who lies with any animal.’
22 'Cursed is he who lies with his sister, the daughter of his father, or the daughter of his mother.' All the people shall say, 'Amen.'
‘Cursed is he who sleeps with his sister, the daughter of his father or the daughter of his mother.’
23 'Cursed is he who lies with his mother-in-law.' All the people shall say, 'Amen.'
‘Cursed is he who sleeps with his mother-in-law.’
24 'Cursed is he who strikes his neighbor in secret.' All the people shall say, 'Amen.'
‘Cursed is he who strikes down his neighbor in secret.’
25 'Cursed is he who takes a bribe to kill an innocent person.' All the people shall say, 'Amen.'
‘Cursed is he who accepts a bribe to kill an innocent person.’
26 'Cursed is he who doesn't confirm all the words of this law to do them.' All the people shall say, 'Amen.'"
‘Cursed is he who does not put the words of this law into practice.’
