2 Kings 3
1 Now Jehoram the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria in the eighteenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and reigned twelve years.
Joram aber, der Sohn Ahabs, ward König über Israel zu Samaria im achtzehnten Jahre Josaphats, des Königs von Juda, und regierte zwölf Jahre.
2 He did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, but not like his father, and like his mother; for he put away the pillar of Baal that his father had made.
Und er that, was Jahwe mißfiel, jedoch nicht wie sein Vater und seine Mutter; denn er beseitigte die Malsteine des Baal, die sein Vater hatte herstellen lassen.
3 Nevertheless he held to the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, with which he made Israel to sin; he did not depart from it.
Jedoch an den Sünden Jerobeams, des Sohnes Nebats, zu denen er Israel verführt hatte, hielt er fest und ließ nicht davon.
4 Now Mesha king of Moab was a sheep breeder; and he rendered to the king of Israel the wool of one hundred thousand lambs, and of one hundred thousand rams.
Mesa aber, der König von Moab, züchtete große Herden und zinste dem Könige von Israel jedesmal hunderttausend Lämmer und die Wolle von hunderttausend Widdern.
5 But it happened, when Ahab was dead, that the king of Moab rebelled against the king of Israel.
Als nun Ahab gestorben war, fiel der König von Moab vom Könige von Israel ab.
6 King Jehoram went out of Samaria at that time, and mustered all Israel.
Der König Joram aber rückte zu jener Zeit aus Samaria aus und mustere das ganze Israel.
7 He went and sent to Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, saying, "The king of Moab has rebelled against me. Will you go with me against Moab to battle?" He said, "I will go up. I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses."
Und Josaphat, dem Könige von Juda, ließ er Folgendes entbieten: Der König von Moab ist von mir abgefallen; willst du mit mir wider die Moabiter in den Krieg ziehen? Er antwortete: Jawohl! Ich will sein wie du; mein Volk sei wie dein Volk, meine Rosse wie deine Rosse!
8 He said, "Which way shall we go up?" He answered, "The way of the wilderness of Edom."
Da fragte er: Welchen Weg sollen wir ziehen? Er antwortete: den Weg durch die Steppe von Edom!
9 So the king of Israel went, and the king of Judah, and the king of Edom; and they made a circuit of seven days' journey. There was no water for the army, nor for the animals that followed them.
So zog denn der König von Israel, der König von Juda und der König von Edom hin. Als sie aber eine Strecke von sieben Tagereisen umhergezogen waren, hatte das Heer und das Vieh, das ihnen folgte, kein Wasser.
10 The king of Israel said, "Alas. For the LORD has called these three kings together to deliver them into the hand of Moab."
Da rief der König von Israel: O weh! Jahwe hat diese drei Könige hergerufen, um sie in die Gewalt der Moabiter zu geben.
11 But Jehoshaphat said, "Isn't there here a prophet of the LORD, that we may inquire of the LORD by him?" One of the king of Israel's servants answered, "Elisha the son of Shaphat is here, who poured water on the hands of Elijah."
Josaphat aber sprach: ist denn hier kein Prophet Jahwes, daß wir Jahwe durch ihn befragen könnten? Da antwortete einer von den Dienern des Königs von Israel: hier ist Elisa, der Sohn Saphats, der Elia als vertrautester Diener Wasser auf die Hände gegossen hat.
12 And Jehoshaphat said, "The word of the LORD is with him." So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah and the king of Edom went down to him.
Josaphat sprach: Bei ihm ist das Wort Jahwes zu finden! So gingen denn der König von Israel und Josaphat und der König von Edom zu ihm hinab.
13 Elisha said to the king of Israel, "What have I to do with you? Go to the prophets of your father, and to the prophets of your mother." The king of Israel said to him, "No; for the LORD has called these three kings together to deliver them into the hand of Moab."
Elisa aber sprach zu dem Könige von Israel: Was habe ich mit dir zu schaffen? Geh zu den Propheten deines Vaters und zu den Propheten deiner Mutter! Der König von Israel aber sprach zu ihm: Nicht doch! denn Jahwe hat diese drei Könige hergerufen, um sie in die Gewalt der Moabiter zu geben.
14 Elisha said, "As the LORD of hosts lives, before whom I stand, surely, were it not that I respect the presence of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would not look toward you, nor see you.
Da sprach Elisa: So wahr Jahwe der Heerscharen lebt, in dessen Dienst ich stehe: wenn ich nicht auf Josaphat, den König von Juda, Rücksicht nähme, ich wollte auf dich nicht blicken noch dich ansehen!
15 But now bring me a minstrel." It happened, when the minstrel played, that the hand of the LORD came on him.
Jetzt aber holt mir einen Saitenspieler! Jedesmal, wenn der Saitenspieler spielte, kam über ihn die Hand Jahwes.
16 He said, "Thus says the LORD, 'Make this valley full of trenches.'
Und er sprach: So spricht Jahwe: Macht in diesem Bachthale Grube an Grube!
17 For thus says the LORD, 'You will not see wind, neither will you see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, and you will drink, both you and your livestock and your animals.
Denn so spricht Jahwe: Ihr werdet weder Wind noch Regen zu sehen bekommen, und dennoch soll sich dieses Thal mit Wasser füllen, so daß ihr samt eurem Heer und eurem Vieh zu trinken haben werdet.
18 This is but a light thing in the sight of the LORD. He will also deliver the Moabites into your hand.
Und dies dünkt Jahwe noch zu gering; er wird auch die Moabiter in eure Gewalt geben,
19 You shall strike every fortified city, and every choice city, and shall fell every good tree, and stop all springs of water, and mar every good piece of land with stones.'"
daß ihr alle festen Städte und alle auserlesenen Städte bezwingen, alle Fruchtbäume fällen, alle Wasserquellen verstopfen und sämtliche gute Äcker mit Steinen verderben sollt.
20 It happened in the morning, about the time of offering the offering, that look, water came by the way of Edom, and the country was filled with water.
Am andern Morgen aber, um die Zeit, da man das Speisopfer darzubringen pflegt, kam plötzlich Wasser in der Richtung von Edom her, und das Land füllte sich mit Wasser.
21 Now when all the Moabites heard that the kings had come up to fight against them, they gathered themselves together, all who were able to put on armor, and upward, and stood on the border.
Als aber sämtliche Moabiter vernahmen, daß die Könige herangezogen seien, um sie anzugreifen, wurde alles aufgeboten, was nur irgend waffenfähig war, und sie stellten sich an der Grenze auf.
22 They rose up early in the morning, and the sun shone on the water, and the Moabites saw the water over against them as red as blood.
Frühmorgens aber, als die Sonne über dem Wasser aufstrahlte, erschien den Moabitern drüben das Wasser rot wie Blut.
23 They said, "This is blood. The kings are surely destroyed, and they have struck each other. Now therefore, Moab, to the spoil."
Da riefen sie: Das ist Blut! Gewiß sind die Könige aneinander geraten, und es ist zu einem Gemetzel unter ihnen gekommen. Nun auf zur Beute, ihr Moabiter!
24 When they came to the camp of Israel, the Israelites rose up and struck the Moabites, so that they fled before them; and they went forward into the land smiting the Moabites.
Als sie aber zum israelitischen Lager kamen, rückten die Israeliten aus und schlugen die Moabiter, so daß sie vor ihnen flohen; dann aber drangen sie immer tiefer ins Land ein und brachten den Moabitern noch weitere Niederlagen bei.
25 They beat down the cities; and on every good piece of land they cast every man his stone, and filled it; and they stopped all the springs of water, and felled all the good trees, until in Kir Hareseth only they left its stones; however the men armed with slings went about it, and struck it.
Die Städte aber rissen sie nieder, verschütteten alle guten Äcker, indem sie Mann für Mann einen Stein darauf warfen, verstopften alle Wasserquellen und fällten alle Fruchtbäume, bis nichts mehr übrig blieb als die Steinmauern von Kir-Hareseth. Als aber die Schleuderer sie umzingelten und beschossen,
26 When the king of Moab saw that the battle was too severe for him, he took with him seven hundred men who drew sword, to break through to the king of Edom; but they could not.
und der König von Moab erkannte, daß er dem Angriff unterliegen müsse, nahm er mit sich siebenhundert Mann, die mit Schwertern bewaffnet waren, um zum Könige von Edom durchzubrechen; aber es gelang ihnen nicht.
27 Then he took his eldest son who would have reigned in his place, and offered him for a burnt offering on the wall. There was great wrath against Israel: and they departed from him, and returned to their own land.
Da nahm er seinen erstgeborenen Sohn, der nach ihm herrschen sollte, und opferte ihn auf der Mauer als Brandopfer. Da kam ein gewaltiger Zorn über Israel, so daß sie von ihm abließen und abzogen und in ihr Land zurückkehrten.
