2 Kings 18
1 Now it happened in the third year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Hezekiah the son of Ahaz king of Judah began to reign.
১এলার ছেলে ইস্রায়েলের রাজা হোশেয়ের রাজত্বের তিন বছরের মাথায় যিহূদার রাজা আহসের ছেলে হিষ্কিয় রাজত্ব করতে শুরু করলেন।
2 He was twenty-five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem: and his mother's name was Abi the daughter of Zechariah.
২তিনি পঁচিশ বছর বয়সী ছিলেন যখন তিনি রাজত্ব করতে শুরু করেছিলেন এবং তিনি ঊনত্রিশ বছর যিরূশালেমে রাজত্ব করেছিলেন। তাঁর মায়ের নাম ছিল অবী, তিনি সখরিয়ের মেয়ে ছিলেন।
3 He did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, according to all that David his father had done.
৩হিষ্কিয় তাঁর পূর্বপুরুষ দায়ূদের সব কাজের মতই সদাপ্রভুর চোখে যা ঠিক তিনি তাই করতেন।
4 He removed the high places, and broke the pillars, and cut down the Asherah: and he broke in pieces the bronze serpent that Moses had made; for in those days the children of Israel burned incense to it; and he called it Nehushtan.
৪তিনি উঁচু জায়গাগুলো ধ্বংস করলেন, পাথরের স্তম্ভগুলো নষ্ট করে দিলেন এবং আশেরা মূর্তিগুলি কেটে ফেললেন। মোশি যে পিতল সাপটা তৈরী করেছিলেন তিনি সেটি ভেঙে ফেললেন, কারণ ইস্রায়েলের লোকেরা সেই দিন পর্যন্তও সেই সাপের উদ্দেশ্যে ধূপ জ্বালাচ্ছিল। তিনি ব্রোঞ্জের সাপটার নাম দিলেন নহুষ্টন (পিতলের টুকরো)।
5 He trusted in the LORD, the God of Israel; so that after him was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor among them that were before him.
৫হিষ্কিয় ইস্রায়েলের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুর উপর নির্ভর করতেন। সুতরাং তাঁর পরে যিহূদার রাজাদের মধ্যে তাঁর মত আর কেউ ছিলেন না, তাঁর আগেও ছিল না।
6 For he joined with the LORD; he did not depart from following him, but kept his commandments, which the LORD commanded Moses.
৬সেজন্য তিনি সদাপ্রভুকে আঁকড়ে ধরে রেখেছিলেন। তাঁর পথ থেকে তিনি ফিরলেন না বরং সদাপ্রভু মোশিকে যে সব আদেশ দিয়েছিলেন সেগুলি সব তিনি পালন করতেন।
7 The LORD was with him; wherever he went forth he prospered: and he rebelled against the king of Assyria, and did not serve him.
৭আর সদাপ্রভু তাঁর সঙ্গে সঙ্গে থাকতেন এবং তিনি যে কোন জায়গায় যেতেন তাতে সফল হতেন। অশূরের রাজার বিরুদ্ধে বিদ্রোহ করলেন এবং তিনি তাঁর অধীনতা অস্বীকার করলেন।
8 He struck the Philistines to Gaza and its borders, from the tower of the watchmen to the fortified city.
৮তিনি ঘসা (গাজা) ও তার সীমানা, চৌকি দেওয়ার উঁচু ঘর থেকে উঁচু দেওয়াল বিশিষ্ট শহর পর্যন্ত এবং পলেষ্টীয়দের তিনি আক্রমণ করলেন।
9 It happened in the fourth year of king Hezekiah, which was the seventh year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against Samaria, and besieged it.
৯রাজা হিষ্কিয়ের রাজত্বের চতুর্থ বছরে, অর্থাৎ ইস্রায়েলের রাজা এলার ছেলে হোশেয়ের রাজত্বের সপ্তম বছরে অশূরের রাজা শল্মনেষর শমরিয়ার বিরুদ্ধে এসে শহরটা ঘেরাও করলেন।
10 At the end of three years they took it: in the sixth year of Hezekiah, which was the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel, Samaria was taken.
১০এবং তিন বছর পরে অশূরের লোকেরা তা অধিকার করল, হিষ্কিয়ের রাজত্বের ষষ্ঠ বছরে আর ইস্রায়েলের রাজা হোশেয়ের রাজত্বের নবম বছরে শমরীয়কে দখল বা অধিকার করে নেওয়া হয়।
11 The king of Assyria carried Israel away to Assyria, and put them in Halah, and on the Habor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes,
১১পরে অশূরের রাজা ইস্রায়েলের লোকদের বন্দী করে অশূরিয়াতে নিয়ে গেলেন এবং হলহে, হাবোর নদীর ধারে গোষণ এলাকায় এবং মাদীয়দের বিভিন্ন শহরে তাদের বসবাস করতে দিলেন।
12 because they did not obey the voice of the LORD their God, but transgressed his covenant, even all that Moses the servant of the LORD commanded, and would not hear it, nor do it.
১২তিনি এই সব করেছিলেন, কারণ তাদের নিজেদের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুর বাক্য তারা মেনে চলে নি, বরং তাঁর ব্যবস্থা, অর্থাৎ সদাপ্রভুর দাস মোশির সমস্ত আদেশ তারা অমান্য করত। সেই সব আদেশের কথা তারা শুনতও না এবং তা পালন করতে অস্বীকার করেছিল।
13 Now in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah, Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the fortified cities of Judah, and took them.
১৩পরে রাজা হিষ্কিয়ের রাজত্বের চৌদ্দ বছরেরদিন অশূরের রাজা সন্হেরীব যিহূদার সমস্ত দেয়ালে ঘেরা শহরগুলো আক্রমণ করে তাদের দখল করে নিলেন।
14 Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria to Lachish, saying, "I have offended; return from me. That which you put on me, I will bear." The king of Assyria appointed to Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.
১৪তখন যিহূদার রাজা হিষ্কিয় লাখীশে অশূরের রাজাকে এই কথা বলে পাঠালেন, “আমি তোমার বিরুদ্ধে অন্যায় করেছি। আপনি ফিরে যান। আপনি আমাকে যা ভার দেবেন আমি তা বহন করব।” এতে অশূরের রাজা যিহূদার রাজা হিষ্কিয়ের কাছে প্রায় বারো টন রূপা এবং প্রায় এক টনের মত সোনা দাবি করেছিলেন।
15 Hezekiah gave him all the silver that was found in the house of the LORD, and in the treasures of the king's house.
১৫ফলে হিষ্কিয় সদাপ্রভুর গৃহে যত রূপা পেয়েছিলেন এবং রাজবাড়ীর ভান্ডারগুলোতে যত রূপা ছিল সবই তাঁকে দিলেন।
16 At that time, Hezekiah cut off the gold from the doors of the LORD's temple, and from the pillars which Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid, and gave it to the king of Assyria.
১৬যিহূদার রাজা হিষ্কিয় সদাপ্রভুর গৃহের দরজা ও দরজার চৌকাঠ যে সোনা দিয়ে মুড়িয়েছিলেন সেগুলি কেটে নিয়ে অশূরের রাজাকে দিলেন।
17 The king of Assyria sent Tartan and Rabsaris and Rabshakeh from Lachish to king Hezekiah with a great army to Jerusalem. They went up and came to Jerusalem and stood by the conduit of the upper pool, which is on the highway of the Launderers' Field.
১৭পরে অশূরের রাজা লাখীশ থেকে তর্ত্তনকে, রব্সারীসকে ও রব্শাকিকে মস্ত বড় এক দল সৈন্য দিয়ে যিরূশালেমে রাজা হিষ্কিয়ের কাছে পাঠিয়ে দিলেন। তাঁরা যাত্রা করে যিরূশালেমে এসে ধোপার মাঠের রাস্তার ধারে উঁচু জায়গার পুকুরের সঙ্গে লাগানো জলের নালার কাছে পৌঁছালেন।
18 When they had called to the king, there came out to them Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and Shebnah the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder.
১৮যখন তাঁরা রাজাকে ডাকলেন তখন রাজবাড়ীর পরিচালক হিল্কিয়ের ছেলে ইলীয়াকীম, রাজার লেখক শিব্ন এবং ইতিহাস লেখক আসফের ছেলে যোয়াহ বের হয়ে তাঁদের কাছে দেখা করতে গেলেন।
19 Rabshakeh said to them, "Say now to Hezekiah, 'Thus says the great king, the king of Assyria, "What confidence is this in which you trust?
১৯তখন রব্শাকি তাঁদের বললেন, “আপনারা হিষ্কিয়কে এই কথা বলুন যে, সেই মহান রাজা, অশূরের রাজা বলেছেন, ‘তোমার বিশ্বাসের উত্স কি?
20 Do you think that empty words are strategy and power for war? Now on whom do you trust, that you have rebelled against me?
২০তুমি বলেছ তোমার যুদ্ধ করবার বুদ্ধি ও শক্তি আছে, কিন্তু সেগুলো শুধু মুখের কথা মাত্র। বল দেখি, তুমি কার উপর নির্ভর করছ? কে তোমাকে সাহস দিয়েছে আমার বিরুদ্ধে বিদ্রোহ করতে?
21 Now, look, you trust in the staff of this bruised reed, even in Egypt. If a man leans on it, it will go into his hand, and pierce it. So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust on him.
২১দেখো, তুমি তো নির্ভর করছ সেই থেঁৎলে যাওয়া নলের মত দণ্ডে, অর্থাৎ মিশরের উপর। কিন্তু যে কেউ সেই নলের উপর নির্ভর করবে তা তার হাতে ফুটে বিদ্ধ করবে। মিশরের রাজা ফরৌণের উপর যারা নির্ভর করে তাদের প্রতি সে সেইরূপ করে।’
22 But if you tell me, 'We trust in the LORD our God;' isn't that he whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah has taken away, and has said to Judah and to Jerusalem, 'You shall worship before this altar in Jerusalem?'
২২কিন্তু তোমরা যদি আমাকে বল যে, আমরা নিজেদের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুর উপরে নির্ভর করেছি, তাহলে কি তিনি সেই নন যাঁর উঁচু স্থান ও বেদীগুলো হিষ্কিয় দূর করে দিয়েছেন এবং যিহূদা ও যিরূশালেমের লোকদের বলেছে তোমরা যিরূশালেমের এই বেদির সামনে উপাসনা করবে?
23 Now therefore, please give pledges to my master the king of Assyria, and I will give you two thousand horses, if you are able on your part to set riders on them.
২৩অশূররে এখন তুমি আমার হয়ে তোমাদের রাজাকে একবার বল, ‘তুমি যদি পার তবে আমার মালিক অশূরের রাজার সঙ্গে এই প্রতিজ্ঞা কর যে, আমি তোমাকে দুই হাজার ঘোড়া দেব যদি তুমি তাতে চড়বার জন্য লোক দিতে পার।
24 How then can you turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master's servants, and put your trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?
২৪যদি তাই না পার তবে আমার মালিকের কর্মচারীদের মধ্যে সব থেকে যে ছোট তাকেই বা তুমি কেমন করে বাধা দেবে? তুমিতো মিশরের রথ আর ঘোড়সওয়ারের উপর নির্ভর করেছ!
25 Have I now come up without the LORD against this place to destroy it? The LORD said to me, 'Go up against this land, and destroy it.'"'"
২৫আমি কি সদাপ্রভুর কাছ থেকে অনুমতি না নিয়েই এই জায়গা আক্রমণ ও ধ্বংস করতে এসেছি? সদাপ্রভুই আমাকে বলেছেন, এই দেশের বিরুদ্ধে আক্রমণ করে তা ধ্বংস করে দিতে’।”
26 Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, and Shebnah, and Joah, said to Rabshakeh, "Please speak to your servants in the Aramaic language; for we understand it. Do not speak with us in the Jews' language, in the hearing of the people who are on the wall."
২৬তখন হিল্কিয়ের ছেলে ইলীয়াকীম, শিব্ন ও যোয়াহ রব্শাকিকে বললেন, “অনুরোধ করি আপনার দাসদের কাছে আপনি অরামীয় ভাষায় কথা বলুন, কারণ আমরা এটা বুঝতে পারি। দেয়ালের উপরকার লোকদের সামনে আপনি আমাদের সঙ্গে ইব্রীয় ভাষায় কথা বলবেন না।”
27 But Rabshakeh said to them, "Has my master sent me to your master, and to you, to speak these words? Hasn't he sent me to the men who sit on the wall, to eat their own dung, and to drink their own water with you?"
২৭কিন্তু রব্শাকি উত্তর দিয়ে তাদের বললেন, “আমার মালিক কি কেবল তোমাদের মালিক ও তোমাদের কাছে এই সব কথা বলতে আমাকে পাঠিয়েছেন? যারা দেয়ালের উপরে বসা ঐ সব লোকেদের কাছে, যারা তোমার মত নিজের নিজের পায়খানা ও প্রস্রাব খেতে হবে তাদের কাছেও কি বলে পাঠান নি?”
28 Then Rabshakeh stood, and cried with a loud voice in the Jews' language, and spoke, saying, "Hear the word of the great king, the king of Assyria.
২৮তারপর রব্শাকি দাঁড়িয়ে জোরে জোরে ইব্রীয় ভাষায় বললেন, “তোমরা মহান রাজা অশূর রাজার কথা শোন।
29 Thus says the king, 'Do not let Hezekiah deceive you; for he will not be able to deliver you out of my hand.
২৯রাজা বলছেন যে, হিষ্কিয় যেন তোমাদের না ঠকায়। কারণ সে তাঁর শক্তি থেকে তোমাদের রক্ষা করতে পারবে না।
30 Neither let Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying, "The LORD will surely deliver us, and this city shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria."
৩০আর হিষ্কিয় যেন এই কথা বলে সদাপ্রভুর উপর তোমাদের বিশ্বাস না জন্মায় যে, ‘সদাপ্রভু অবশ্যই আমাদের উদ্ধার করবেন; এই শহর অশূর রাজার হাতে তুলে দেবেন না।’
31 Do not listen to Hezekiah.' For thus says the king of Assyria, 'Make your peace with me, and come out to me; and everyone of you eat of his vine, and everyone of his fig tree, and everyone drink the waters of his own cistern;
৩১তোমরা হিষ্কিয়ের কথা শুনো না। কারণ অশূরের রাজা এই কথা বলেছেন যে, ‘আমার সঙ্গে তোমরা সন্ধি কর এবং বের হয়ে আমার কাছে এস। তখন তোমরা প্রত্যেকে তার নিজের আঙুর ও ডুমুর গাছের ফল খেতে পারবে এবং নিজের কুয়ো থেকে জল পান করতে পারবে।
32 until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of olive trees and of honey, that you may live, and not die. Do not listen to Hezekiah, when he persuades you, saying, "The LORD will deliver us."
৩২তারপর আমি এসে তোমাদের নিজের দেশের মত আর এক দেশে তোমাদের নিয়ে যাব। সেই দেশ হল শস্য ও নতুন আঙুর রসের দেশ, রুটি ও আঙুর ক্ষেতের দেশ, জিতবৃক্ষের ও মধুর দেশ। তাতে তোমরা মরবে না বরং বাঁচবে। কিন্তু হিষ্কিয়ের কথা শুনো না যখন তোমাদের বলবে এবং ভুলাবে যে, সদাপ্রভু আমাদের উদ্ধার করবেন।
33 Has any of the gods of the nations ever delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?
৩৩অন্যান্য জাতির কোন দেবতারা কি অশূর রাজার শক্তি থেকে নিজের নিজের দেশ রক্ষা করতে পেরেছে?
34 Where are the gods of Hamath, and of Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim, of Hena, and Ivvah? Have they delivered Samaria out of my hand?
৩৪হমাৎ ও অর্পদের দেবতারা কোথায়? সফর্বয়িম, হেনা ও ইব্বার দেবতারা কোথায়? তারা কি আমার হাত থেকে শমরিয়াকে রক্ষা করতে পেরেছে?
35 Who are they among all the gods of the countries, that have delivered their country out of my hand, that the LORD should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?'"
৩৫এই সব দেশের সমস্ত দেব দেবতাদের মধ্যে কে আমার হাত থেকে নিজের দেশকে রক্ষা করেছে? তবে কেমন করে সদাপ্রভু আমার হাত থেকে যিরূশালেমকে রক্ষা করবেন’?”
36 But the people held their peace, and answered him not a word; for the king's commandment was, "Do not answer him."
৩৬কিন্তু লোকেরা চুপ করে রইল, কোন উত্তর দিল না, কারণ রাজা কোন উত্তর না দেওয়ার তাদের আদেশ করেছিলেন।
37 Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, came with Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder, to Hezekiah with their clothes torn, and told him the words of Rabshakeh.
৩৭তার পরে রাজবাড়ীর পরিচালক হিল্কিয়ের ছেলে ইলীয়াকীম, রাজার লেখক শিব্ন এবং ইতিহাস লেখক আসফের ছেলে যোয়াহ তাঁদের নিজের কাপড় ছিঁড়ে হিষ্কিয়ের কাছে গেলেন এবং রব্শাকির সমস্ত কথা তাঁকে জানালেন।
