< 1 Timothy 5 >

1 Do not rebuke an older man, but exhort him as a father; the younger men as brothers;
ⲁ̅ⲛϩⲗⲗⲟ ⲙⲡⲣⲛⲟϣⲥⲟⲩ ⲁⲗⲗⲁ ⲡⲁⲣⲁⲕⲁⲗⲉⲓ ⲙⲙⲟⲟⲩ ϩⲱⲥ ⲉⲓⲱⲧ ⲛϣⲏⲣⲉ ϣⲏⲙ ϩⲱⲥ ⲥⲟⲛ
2 the older women as mothers; the younger as sisters, in all purity.
ⲃ̅ⲛⲛⲟϭ ⲛⲥϩⲓⲙⲉ ϩⲱⲥ ⲙⲁⲁⲩ ⲛϣⲉⲉⲣⲉ ϣⲏⲙ ϩⲱⲥ ⲥⲱⲛⲉ ϩⲛ ⲧⲃⲃⲟ ⲛⲓⲙ
3 Honor widows who are widows indeed.
ⲅ̅ⲧⲁⲓⲉ ⲛⲉⲭⲏⲣⲁ ⲛⲉⲭⲏⲣⲁ ⲛⲁⲙⲉ
4 But if any widow has children or grandchildren, let them learn first to show piety towards their own family, and to repay their parents, for this is acceptable in the sight of God.
ⲇ̅ⲉϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲇⲉ ⲟⲩⲭⲏⲣⲁ ⲉⲩⲛⲧⲥ ϣⲏⲣⲉ ⲏ ϣⲏⲣⲉ ⲛϣⲏⲣⲉ ⲙⲁⲣⲟⲩϫⲓⲥⲃⲱ ⲛϣⲟⲣⲡ ⲉϣⲙϣⲉ ⲡⲉⲩⲏⲉⲓ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲉⲧⲱⲱⲃⲉ ⲛⲟⲩⲧⲟⲩⲉⲓⲟ ⲛⲛⲉⲩⲉⲓⲟⲧⲉ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲡⲉⲧⲛⲁⲛⲟⲩϥ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲉⲧϣⲏⲡ ⲙⲡⲉⲙⲧⲟ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲙⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ
5 Now she who is a widow indeed, and desolate, has her hope set on God, and continues in petitions and prayers night and day.
ⲉ̅ⲧⲉⲭⲏⲣⲁ ⲇⲉ ⲛⲁⲙⲉ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲉⲧϭⲉⲉⲧ ⲟⲩⲁⲁⲧⲥ ⲉⲥϩⲉⲗⲡⲓⲍⲉ ⲉⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲉⲥⲙⲏⲛ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲛ ⲛⲥⲟⲡⲥ ⲙⲛ ⲛⲉϣⲗⲏⲗ ⲛⲧⲉⲩϣⲏ ⲙⲛ ⲡⲉϩⲟⲟⲩ
6 But she who gives herself to pleasure is dead while she lives.
ⲋ̅ⲧⲉⲧⲥⲡⲁⲧⲁⲗⲁ ⲇⲉ ⲁⲥⲙⲟⲩ ⲉⲥⲟⲛϩ
7 Also command these things, so that they will be without fault.
ⲍ̅ⲡⲁⲣⲁⲅⲅⲓⲗⲉ ⲛⲛⲁⲓ ϫⲉ ⲛⲛⲉⲩⲧⲁϩⲟⲟⲩ ϩⲛ ⲗⲁⲁⲩ
8 But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially his own household, he has denied the faith, and is worse than an unbeliever.
ⲏ̅ⲉϣϫⲉ ⲟⲩⲛ ⲟⲩⲁ ⲇⲉ ⲉⲛϥϥⲓ ⲁⲛ ⲙⲡⲣⲟⲟⲩϣ ⲛⲛⲉⲧⲉⲛⲟⲩϥ ⲛⲉ ⲙⲁⲗⲓⲥⲧⲁ ⲛⲁ ⲡⲉϥⲏⲉⲓ ⲁϥⲁⲣⲛⲁ ⲛⲧⲡⲓⲥⲧⲓⲥ ⲁⲩⲱ ϥϩⲟⲟⲩ ⲉⲩⲁⲡⲓⲥⲧⲟⲥ
9 Let no one be enrolled as a widow under sixty years old, having been the wife of one man,
ⲑ̅ⲧⲉⲭⲏⲣⲁ ⲙⲁⲣⲟⲩⲟⲡⲥ ⲉⲛⲥⲙⲡⲉⲥⲏⲧ ⲁⲛ ⲛⲥⲉ ⲛⲣⲟⲙⲡⲉ ⲉⲁⲥϩⲙⲟⲟⲥ ⲙⲛ ⲟⲩϩⲁⲓ ⲛⲟⲩⲱⲧ
10 being approved by good works, if she has brought up children, if she has been hospitable to strangers, if she has washed the saints' feet, if she has relieved the afflicted, and if she has diligently followed every good work.
ⲓ̅ⲉⲩⲣⲙⲛⲧⲣⲉ ϩⲁⲣⲟⲥ ϩⲛ ϩⲉⲛϩⲃⲏⲩⲉ ⲉⲛⲁⲛⲟⲩⲟⲩ ϫⲉ ⲛⲁⲥⲥⲁⲛϣ ⲛⲉⲥϣⲏⲣⲉ ϫⲉ ⲛⲁⲥϣⲡ ϣⲙⲙⲟ ⲉⲣⲟⲥ ϫⲉ ⲛⲁⲥⲉⲓⲁ ⲛⲛⲟⲩⲉⲣⲏ ⲧⲉ ⲛⲛⲉⲧⲟⲩⲁⲁⲃ ϫⲉ ⲛⲁⲥⲣⲱϣⲉ ⲉⲛⲉⲧⲑⲗⲓⲃⲉ ϫⲉ ⲛⲁⲥⲟⲩⲁϩⲥ ⲛⲥⲁ ϩⲱⲃ ⲛⲓⲙ ⲉⲧⲛⲁⲛⲟⲩⲟⲩ
11 But refuse younger widows, for whenever their passions lead them away from Meshikha, they desire to marry;
ⲓ̅ⲁ̅ⲛϣⲉⲉⲣⲉ ⲇⲉ ϣⲏⲙ ⲛⲭⲏⲣⲁ ⲡⲁⲣⲁⲓⲧⲓ ⲙⲙⲟⲟⲩ ϩⲟⲧⲁⲛ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲉⲩϣⲁⲛϫⲏⲣ ⲉϫⲙ ⲡⲉⲭⲥ ϣⲁⲩⲟⲩⲉϣϫⲓϩⲁⲓ
12 having condemnation, because they have rejected their first pledge.
ⲓ̅ⲃ̅ⲉⲩⲛⲧⲁⲩ ⲙⲙⲁⲩ ⲛⲟⲩϩⲁⲡ ϫⲉ ⲁⲩⲕⲁⲧⲁⲫⲣⲟⲛⲓ ⲛⲧϣⲟⲣⲡ ⲙⲡⲓⲥⲧⲓⲥ
13 Besides, they also learn to be idle, going about from house to house. Not only idle, but also gossips and busybodies, saying things which they ought not.
ⲓ̅ⲅ̅ϩⲁⲙⲁ ⲇⲉ ⲥⲉϫⲓⲥⲃⲱ ⲉⲣⲁⲣⲅⲟⲥ ⲉⲩⲕⲱⲧⲉ ⲉⲛⲏⲉⲓ ⲟⲩ ⲙⲟⲛⲟⲛ ⲇⲉ ⲉⲩⲟ ⲛⲁⲣⲅⲟⲥ ⲁⲗⲗⲁ ⲛⲕⲉϣⲟⲩϣⲟ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲛⲣⲉϥⲧⲱϩ ⲉⲩϫⲱ ⲛⲛⲉⲧⲉⲙⲉϣϣⲉ
14 I desire therefore that the younger widows marry, bear children, rule the household, and give no occasion to the adversary for reviling.
ⲓ̅ⲇ̅ϯⲟⲩⲱϣ ϭⲉ ⲉⲧⲣⲉ ⲛϣⲉⲉⲣⲉ ϣⲏⲙ ϫⲓϩⲁⲓ ⲉϫⲡⲉ ϣⲏⲣⲉ ⲉⲣϫⲟⲉⲓⲥ ⲉⲡⲉⲩⲏⲓ ⲉⲧⲙϯ ⲗⲁⲁⲩ ⲛⲁⲫⲟⲣⲙⲏ ⲙⲡⲉⲧϯ ⲟⲩⲃⲏⲛ ⲉⲧⲣⲉⲩⲥⲁϩⲟⲩ ⲙⲙⲟⲛ
15 For already some have turned aside after Satana.
ⲓ̅ⲉ̅ⲁϩⲟⲓⲛⲉ ⲅⲁⲣ ϫⲓⲛ ⲧⲉⲛⲟⲩ ⲟⲩⲁϩⲟⲩ ϩⲓⲡⲁϩⲟⲩ ⲙⲡⲥⲁⲧⲁⲛⲁⲥ
16 If any believing woman has widows, she must assist them, and do not let the church be burdened; that it might help those widows who are truly in need.
ⲓ̅ⲋ̅ⲉϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲟⲩⲡⲓⲥⲧⲏ ⲉⲟⲩⲛⲧⲥ ⲟⲩⲭⲏⲣⲁ ⲙⲁⲣⲉⲥⲣⲱϣⲉ ⲉⲣⲟⲥ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲙⲡⲣⲧⲣⲉⲩϩⲣⲟϣ ⲉⲧⲉⲕⲕⲗⲏⲥⲓⲁ ϫⲉ ⲉⲥⲉⲣⲱϣⲉ ⲉⲛⲉⲭⲏⲣⲁ ⲛⲁⲙⲉ
17 Let the elders who rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in the word and in teaching.
ⲓ̅ⲍ̅ⲛⲉⲡⲣⲉⲥⲃⲩⲧⲉⲣⲟⲥ ⲉⲧⲡⲣⲟϩⲓⲥⲧⲁ ⲕⲁⲗⲱⲥ ⲙⲁⲣⲟⲩⲧⲁⲉⲓⲟⲟⲩ ⲛⲟⲩⲧⲁⲉⲓⲟ ⲉϥⲕⲏⲃ ⲛϩⲟⲩⲟ ⲇⲉ ⲛⲉⲧϩⲟⲥⲉ ϩⲙ ⲡϣⲁϫⲉ ⲙⲛ ⲧⲉⲥⲃⲱ
18 For the Scripture says, "You shall not muzzle the ox when it treads out the grain." And, "The laborer is worthy of his wages."
ⲓ̅ⲏ̅ⲡⲉϫⲁⲥ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲛϭⲓ ⲧⲉⲅⲣⲁⲫⲏ ϫⲉ ⲛⲛⲉⲕϣⲧⲃ ⲟⲩⲙⲁⲥⲉ ⲉϥϩⲉⲓ ⲁⲩⲱ ϫⲉ ⲡⲉⲣⲅⲁⲧⲏⲥ ⲙⲡϣⲁ ⲙⲡⲉϥⲃⲉⲕⲉ
19 Do not receive an accusation against an elder, except at the word of two or three witnesses.
ⲓ̅ⲑ̅ⲙⲡⲣϫⲓ ⲕⲁⲧⲏⲅⲟⲣⲓⲁ ⲉϩⲟⲩⲛ ⲉⲩⲡⲣⲉⲥⲃⲩⲧⲉⲣⲟⲥ ϩⲓⲃⲟⲗ ⲉⲓⲙⲏⲧⲓ ϩⲓⲧⲛ ⲙⲛⲧⲣⲉ ⲥⲛⲁⲩ ⲏ ϣⲟⲙⲛⲧ
20 Those who sin, reprove in the sight of all, that the rest also may be in fear.
ⲕ̅ⲛⲉⲧⲣⲛⲟⲃⲉ ϫⲡⲓⲟⲟⲩ ⲙⲡⲉⲙⲧⲟ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲛⲟⲩⲟⲛ ⲛⲓⲙ ϫⲉⲕⲁⲥ ⲉⲣⲉⲡⲕⲉⲥⲉⲉⲡⲉ ⲣϩⲟⲧⲉ
21 I command you in the sight of God, and Meshikha Yeshua, and the chosen angels, that you observe these things without prejudice, doing nothing by partiality.
ⲕ̅ⲁ̅ϯⲣⲙⲛⲧⲣⲉ ⲙⲡⲉⲙⲧⲟ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲙⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲙⲛ ⲡⲉⲭⲥ ⲓⲏⲥ ⲙⲛ ⲛⲁⲅⲅⲉⲗⲟⲥ ⲉⲧⲥⲟⲧⲡ ϫⲉ ⲉⲕⲉϩⲁⲣⲉϩ ⲉⲛⲁⲓ ⲁϫⲛ ϩⲁⲡ ⲛⲅⲣⲗⲁⲁⲩ ⲁⲛ ⲕⲁⲧⲁ ⲟⲩϫⲓϩⲟ
22 Do not ordain anyone hastily, nor participate in the sins of others. Keep yourself pure.
ⲕ̅ⲃ̅ⲙⲡⲣⲧⲁⲗⲉ ϭⲓϫ ⲉϫⲛ ⲗⲁⲁⲩ ϩⲛ ⲟⲩϭⲉⲡⲏ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲙⲡⲣⲕⲟⲓⲛⲱⲛⲓ ⲉϩⲉⲛⲛⲟⲃⲉ ⲉⲛⲛⲟⲩⲕ ⲁⲛ ⲛⲉ ϩⲁⲣⲉϩ ⲉⲣⲟⲕ ⲉⲕⲟⲩⲁⲁⲃ
23 Be no longer a drinker of water only, but use a little wine for your stomach's sake and your frequent infirmities.
ⲕ̅ⲅ̅ⲙⲡⲣⲥⲉ ⲙⲟⲟⲩ ϭⲉ ⲁⲗⲗⲁ ⲥⲉ ⲟⲩⲕⲟⲩⲓ ⲛⲏⲣⲡ ⲉⲧⲃⲉ ⲡⲉⲕⲥⲧⲟⲙⲁⲭⲟⲥ ⲙⲛ ⲛⲉⲕϣⲱⲛⲉ ⲉⲧⲟϣ
24 The sins of some people are obvious, going before them to judgment, but those of others show up later.
ⲕ̅ⲇ̅ⲉⲩⲛ ϩⲉⲛⲣⲱⲙⲉ ⲉⲣⲉⲛⲉⲩⲛⲟⲃⲉ ⲟⲩⲟⲛϩ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲉⲩϫⲓⲙⲟⲉⲓⲧ ϩⲏⲧⲟⲩ ⲉⲧⲉⲕⲣⲓⲥⲓⲥ ⲟⲩⲛ ϩⲟⲓⲛⲉ ⲇⲉ ⲉⲩⲟⲩⲏϩ ⲛⲥⲱⲟⲩ
25 In the same way also there are good works that are obvious, and those that are otherwise cannot be hidden.
ⲕ̅ⲉ̅ⲛⲧⲉⲓϩⲉ ⲟⲛ ⲛⲕⲉϩⲃⲏⲩⲉ ⲉⲧⲛⲁⲛⲟⲩⲟⲩ ⲟⲩⲟⲛϩ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲛⲉⲧⲟ ⲛⲕⲉⲥⲙⲟⲧ ⲛⲁϣϩⲱⲡ ⲁⲛ
