< Revelation 9 >

1 Then the fifth angel blew his trumpet, and I saw a star fallen from heaven upon the earth; and to him was given the key to the bottomless pit. (Abyssos g12)
The fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star from the sky which had fallen to the earth. The key to the pit of the abyss was given to him. (Abyssos g12)
2 And he opened the bottomless pit, and out of the pit there went up a smoke like the smoke of a great furnace. And the sun and the air grew dark, because of the smoke out of the pit. (Abyssos g12)
He opened the shaft of the bottomless pit, and smoke went up out of the shaft, like the smoke from a great furnace. The sun and the air were darkened because of the smoke from the pit. (Abyssos g12)
3 And out of the smoke came locusts upon the earth; they were given power like that of scorpions on the earth.
Then out of the smoke came forth locusts on the earth, and power was given to them, as the scorpions of the earth have power.
4 They were told not to hurt the grass of the earth, nor any plant, nor any tree, but only those who have not the seal of God on their foreheads.
They were told that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree, but only those people who do not have God's seal on their foreheads.
5 Yet they were not permitted to kill them, but only to torture them for five months. Their torture was like the torture of a scorpion, when it stings a man.
They were given power not to kill them, but to torment them for five months. Their torment was like the torment of a scorpion, when it strikes a person.
6 In those days men will seek death, and will not find it; they will long to die, but death ever flees from them.
In those days people will seek death, and will in no way find it. They will desire to die, and death will flee from them.
7 The appearance of the locusts was like horses equipped for battle. On their heads there was something like crowns of gold, and their faces were like men’s faces,
The shapes of the locusts were like horses prepared for war. On their heads were something like golden crowns, and their faces were like people's faces.
8 and they had hair like the hair of women, and their teeth were like lion’s teeth,
They had hair like women's hair, and their teeth were like those of lions.
9 and they had breastplates something like breastplates of iron; and the noise of their wings was like the noise of chariots, of many horses rushing into battle.
They had breastplates, like breastplates of iron. The sound of their wings was like the sound of chariots, or of many horses rushing to war.
10 And they have tails like scorpions, and stings, and their power to torture men five months was in their tails.
They have tails like those of scorpions, and stings. In their tails is their power to harm people for five months.
11 They have a king over them, the angel of the bottomless pit. His name in Hebrew is Abaddon; in Greek he is called Apollyon. (Abyssos g12)
They have over them as king the angel of the abyss. His name in Hebrew is "Avadu," and in Greek, he has the name "Apolon." (Abyssos g12)
12 "The first woe has passed; and still there are two woes to follow."
The first woe is past. Look, there are still two woes coming after this.
13 Then the sixth angel blew his trumpet; and I heard a voice from the horns of the golden altar which is before God,
The sixth angel sounded. I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar which is before God,
14 one saying to the sixth angel that had the trumpet, "Loose the four angels which are bound at the great river Euphrates."
saying to the sixth angel who had one trumpet, "Free the four angels who are bound at the great river Pherath."
15 Then the four angels that were held in readiness for that hour and day and month and year, were let loose, to destroy a third of mankind.
The four angels were freed who had been prepared for this hour and day and month and year, so that they might kill one third of humanity.
16 The number of the hosts of the horsemen was twice ten thousand times ten thousand. I heard their number;
The number of the armies of the horsemen was two hundred million. I heard the number of them.
17 and thus I saw the horses in the vision and their riders. They had breastplates of fire, "red as fire, dark blue as jacinth, and yellow as sulphur." The heads of the horses were like lions’ heads, and out of their mouths issued fire and smoke and brimstone.
Thus I saw the horses in the vision, and those who sat on them, having breastplates of fiery red, hyacinth blue, and sulfur yellow; and the heads of lions. Out of their mouths proceed fire, smoke, and sulfur.
18 By these three plagues a third of mankind were killed; by the fire and the smoke and the brimstone which issued from their mouths.
By these three plagues were one third of humanity killed: from the fire, the smoke, and the sulfur, which proceeded out of their mouths.
19 For the power of the horses is in their mouths and in their tails. For their tails are like serpents with heads, and with them they work woe.
For the power of the horses is in their mouths, and in their tails. For their tails are like serpents, and have heads, and with them they harm.
20 And the rest of mankind who were not killed with these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands. They would not give up the worship of demons and of idols made of gold and silver, and brass, and stone, and wood, which can neither see, nor hear, nor walk.
The rest of humanity, who were not killed with these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands, that they would not worship demons, and the idols of gold, and of silver, and of bronze, and of stone, and of wood; which can neither see, nor hear, nor walk.
21 And they did not repent of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their immorality, nor of their thefts.
They did not repent of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their sexual immorality, nor of their thefts.
