Luke 7
1 After he had ended all his sayings in the hearing of the people, he went to Capernaum.
Après avoir achevé de parler à l'oreille du peuple, il entra dans Capernaüm.
2 Here the slave of a certain Roman captain, a man dear to his master, was ill, and at the point of death.
Le serviteur d'un centurion, qui lui était cher, était malade et sur le point de mourir.
3 So when the captain heard about Jesus, he sent elders of the Jews to ask him to come and save his slave.
Ayant entendu parler de Jésus, il lui envoya des anciens des Juifs, le priant de venir sauver son serviteur.
4 And they, when they reached Jesus, asked him earnestly to do this. "He deserves that you should do this," they said,
Lorsqu'ils arrivèrent auprès de Jésus, ils le supplièrent instamment en disant: « Il est digne que tu fasses cela pour lui,
5 "for he loves our nation, and himself has built a synagogue for us."
car il aime notre nation, et c'est pour nous qu'il a bâti notre synagogue. »
6 So Jesus started to go with them, but while he was not far from the house, the captain sent friends to him with a message. "Lord do not trouble yourself, for I am not fit that you should come under my roof,
Jésus alla avec eux. Comme il n'était plus très loin de la maison, le centurion lui envoya des amis pour lui dire: « Seigneur, ne te tourmente pas, car je ne suis pas digne que tu viennes sous mon toit.
7 "and so I did not think myself worthy to come to you; but speak the word, and let my man be cured.
C'est pourquoi je ne me suis même pas cru digne de venir te voir; mais dis la parole, et mon serviteur sera guéri.
8 "For I also am a man obedient to authority, and have soldiers under me. And I say to one ‘come,’ and he comes, and to my slave ‘do this or that,’ and he does it."
Car moi aussi, je suis un homme placé sous autorité, ayant sous mes ordres des soldats. Je dis à l'un: « Va », et il va; à un autre: « Viens », et il vient; à mon serviteur: « Fais ceci », et il le fait ».
9 But when Jesus heard this he was astonished and he turned and said to the crowd that was following him, "I tell you that not even in Israel have I found faith like that."
En entendant ces choses, Jésus s'étonna de lui, puis il se retourna et dit à la foule qui le suivait: « Je vous le dis, je n'ai pas trouvé une si grande foi, pas même en Israël. »
10 And those who had been sent, on returning to the house, found the slave well.
Ceux qui avaient été envoyés, étant retournés à la maison, trouvèrent que le serviteur qui avait été malade était guéri.
11 Soon afterward he went to a city called Nain, accompanied by his disciples, and a great crowd of people.
Peu après, il se rendit dans une ville appelée Naïn. Plusieurs de ses disciples, ainsi qu'une grande foule, l'accompagnèrent.
12 Now when he drew near the gate of the city, behold, they were there carrying out one who was dead, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow.
Comme il approchait de la porte de la ville, voici qu'on emportait un mort, fils unique de sa mère, qui était veuve. Beaucoup de gens de la ville étaient avec elle.
13 A great crowd accompanied her. And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, "Do not weep."
Le Seigneur, en la voyant, eut pitié d'elle et lui dit: « Ne pleure pas. »
14 And he came near and touched the bier; the bearer stopped and he said, "Young man, I bid you to rise."
Il s'approcha et toucha le cercueil, et les porteurs s'arrêtèrent. Il dit: « Jeune homme, je te le dis, lève-toi! »
15 And he who was dead sat up and began to speak; and he gave him to his mother.
Celui qui était mort se redressa et se mit à parler. Puis il le confia à sa mère.
16 And awe took hold on them all, and they began to glorify God saying. "A great prophet has risen among us;" and, "God has visited his people."
Tous furent saisis de crainte et glorifièrent Dieu en disant: « Un grand prophète s'est levé parmi nous » et « Dieu a visité son peuple ».
17 And the report of what Jesus had done went forth throughout Judea and the surrounding regions.
Cette nouvelle se répandit à son sujet dans toute la Judée et dans toute la région environnante.
18 John’s disciples brought him word of all these things
Les disciples de Jean lui racontèrent toutes ces choses.
19 and, calling a certain two disciples to him, he sent them to Jesus, to say, "Are you ‘the coming one,’ or if we are to expect another?"
Jean, ayant appelé à lui deux de ses disciples, les envoya vers Jésus, en disant: « Es-tu celui qui vient, ou devons-nous en chercher un autre? »
20 So the men came to Jesus and said, "Johnthe Baptist has sent us to ask you if you are the coming one, or if we are to expect another."
Les hommes, s'étant approchés de lui, dirent: « Jean le Baptiseur nous a envoyés vers toi, pour dire: « Es-tu celui qui vient, ou devons-nous en chercher un autre? ».
21 At that moment Jesus was healing many people of diseases and plagues and evil spirits, and to many that were blind he was freely giving their sight.
En cette heure-là, il guérit beaucoup de maladies, de fléaux et d'esprits mauvais, et il rendit la vue à beaucoup d'aveugles.
22 So he answered them. "Go your way, tell Johnwhat you have seen and heard. How the blind are seeing, the lame are walking, the lepers are being cleansed, the deaf are hearing, the dead are being raised, and the poor are hearing the proclamations of glad tidings.
Jésus leur répondit: « Allez annoncer à Jean ce que vous avez vu et entendu: que les aveugles recouvrent la vue, que les boiteux marchent, que les lépreux sont purifiés, que les sourds entendent, que les morts ressuscitent, et que la bonne nouvelle est annoncée aux pauvres.
23 "And blessed is he who finds no cause of stumbling in me."
Heureux celui qui ne trouve en moi aucune occasion de chute! »
24 When John’s messengers were gone he began to speak to the crowds about John, saying, "What went out you out to the desert to behold? A reed shaken by the wind?
Lorsque les messagers de Jean furent partis, il se mit à dire à la foule, au sujet de Jean: « Qu'êtes-vous allés voir dans le désert? Un roseau secoué par le vent?
25 "But what you went out to behold? A man clothed in soft robes? Behold, men who are gorgeously dressed and live in luxury are in kings’ palaces.
Mais qu'êtes-vous allés voir? Un homme vêtu d'un doux vêtement? Voici, ceux qui sont magnifiquement vêtus et qui vivent dans la délicatesse sont dans les cours des rois.
26 "But what went you to see? A prophet?
Mais vous, qu'êtes-vous allés voir? Un prophète? Oui, je vous le dis, et bien plus qu'un prophète.
27 "Yes, I tell you and more than a prophet. This is he who it is written. "Behold I send a messenger before thy face, Who shall prepare thy way before thee.
C'est celui dont il est écrit, Voici que j'envoie mon messager devant toi, qui préparera ton chemin devant toi.
28 "I tell you that among all that are born of women not one is greater than John; yet he that is little in the kingdom of God is greater than he."
« Car je vous le dis, parmi ceux qui sont nés de femmes, il n'y a pas de plus grand prophète que Jean le Baptiseur; or, celui qui est le plus petit dans le Royaume de Dieu est plus grand que lui. »
29 On hearing this all the people and the tax-gatherers acknowledged the justice of God by being baptized with the baptism of John;
Quand tout le peuple et les publicains entendirent cela, ils déclarèrent que Dieu est juste, ayant été baptisés par le baptême de Jean.
30 but the Pharisees and lawyers who had refused his baptism, frustrated God’s purpose for themselves.
Mais les pharisiens et les juristes rejetèrent le conseil de Dieu, n'ayant pas été eux-mêmes baptisés par lui.
31 "To what then shall I compare the men of this generation?
" A quoi dois-je donc comparer les gens de cette génération? A quoi ressemblent-ils?
32 "To What are they like, they are like children sitting in the market- place and calling to one another. "‘We have piped to you,’ they say, ‘and you have not danced; we have wailed, and you did not cry.’
Ils ressemblent à des enfants qui, assis sur la place du marché, s'interpellent les uns les autres en disant: 'Nous avons sifflé pour vous, et vous n'avez pas dansé. Nous nous sommes lamentés, et vous n'avez pas pleuré.
33 "For Johnthe Baptist has come eating no bread and drinking no wine, and you say, ‘He has a demon!’
Car Jean le Baptiste n'est venu ni manger du pain ni boire du vin, et vous dites: « Il a un démon ».
34 "The son of man has come eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Behold a gluttonous man and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners!’
Le Fils de l'homme est venu en mangeant et en buvant, et vous dites: « Voici un glouton et un ivrogne, l'ami des publicains et des pécheurs ».
35 "Nevertheless, wisdom is justified by all her children."
La sagesse est justifiée par tous ses enfants. »
36 One of the Pharisees kept urging him to dine, so he entered the house and reclined at table.
Un des pharisiens l'invita à manger avec lui. Il entra dans la maison du pharisien et se mit à table.
37 Now there was a woman who was in the city, a sinner and when she knew that that Jesus was reclining at meat in the Pharisees house, she brought an alabaster vase of perfume,
Et voici qu'une femme de la ville, qui était pécheresse, sachant qu'il était couché dans la maison du pharisien, apporta un vase d'albâtre rempli de parfum.
38 and standing behind, at his feet, weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears, and to wipe them with her hair, while she tenderly kissed his feet, and poured the perfume over them.
Se tenant derrière à ses pieds en pleurant, elle se mit à mouiller ses pieds avec ses larmes, les essuya avec les cheveux de sa tête, baisa ses pieds et les oignit avec le parfum.
39 When he noticed this the Pharisee, who had invited him, said to himself, "If this man were really a prophet he would have perceived who and what sort of woman this is who is touching him, and would know that she is a sinner."
Le pharisien qui l'avait invité, voyant cela, se dit: « Cet homme, s'il était prophète, aurait compris qui et quelle sorte de femme c'est qui le touche, que c'est une pécheresse. »
40 Jesus then spoke to him. "Simon, I have a word to say to you." "Rabbi, say on," he replied.
Jésus lui répondit: « Simon, j'ai quelque chose à te dire. » Il a dit: « Maître, parle. »
41 "There were once to men," said Jesus, "in debt to one money- lender. One owed him fifty pounds; the other five.
« Un certain prêteur avait deux débiteurs. L'un devait cinq cents deniers, et l'autre cinquante.
42 "When they had nothing pay he forgave them with such charm. "Tell me, then, which of these will love him most?"
Comme ils ne pouvaient pas payer, il leur a pardonné à tous les deux. Lequel d'entre eux donc l'aimera le plus? »
43 "I take it," said Simon, "the one he forgave the most."
Simon répondit: « Celui, je suppose, à qui il a pardonné le plus. » Il lui dit: « Tu as bien jugé. »
44 "You have rightly judged." answered Jesus, and turning to the woman, he said to Simon. "Do you see this woman? When I came into your house you gave me no water for my feet; but she has wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair.
Se tournant vers la femme, il dit à Simon: « Vois-tu cette femme? Je suis entré dans ta maison, et tu ne m'as pas donné d'eau pour mes pieds, mais elle a mouillé mes pieds avec ses larmes, et les a essuyés avec les cheveux de sa tête.
45 "You gave me no kiss; but she, since she came in, has never ceased tenderly kissing my feet;
Tu ne m'as pas donné de baiser, mais elle, depuis que je suis entré, n'a pas cessé de baiser mes pieds.
46 "you never anointed my head with oil; but she has anointed my feet with my feet with perfume.
Tu n'as pas oint ma tête d'huile, mais elle a oint mes pieds de parfum.
47 "This is why I tell you that her sins, many as they are, are forgiven, for her love is great; but he who is forgiven little, loves but little.
C'est pourquoi je vous dis que ses péchés, qui sont nombreux, sont pardonnés, car elle a beaucoup aimé. Mais celui à qui on pardonne peu, aime peu. »
48 "Your sins are forgiven," he said to her.
Il lui dit: « Tes péchés sont pardonnés. »
49 Then the other guest began to say among themselves, "Who is this even to forgive sins?"
Ceux qui étaient à table avec lui se mirent à dire en eux-mêmes: « Qui est celui-ci, qui pardonne même les péchés? »
50 But he said to the woman. "Your faith has saved you. Go in peace."
Il dit à la femme: « Ta foi t'a sauvée. Va en paix. »
