John 5
1 After this there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
Darnach war ein Fest der Juden, und Jesus zog hinauf nach Jerusalem.
2 Now there is in Jerusalem a pool near the Sheep-gate, called in the Hebrew, Bethesda.
Es ist aber zu Jerusalem beim Schaftor ein Teich, der auf hebräisch Bethesda heißt und der fünf Säulenhallen hat.
3 It has five colonnades. In these there used to lie a great crowd of sick people - blind, lame, paralyzed.
In diesen lag eine große Menge von Kranken, Blinden, Lahmen, Abgezehrten, welche auf die Bewegung des Wassers warteten.
Denn ein Engel stieg zu gewissen Zeiten in den Teich hinab und bewegte das Wasser. Wer nun nach der Bewegung des Wassers zuerst hineinstieg, der wurde gesund, mit welcherlei Krankheit er auch behaftet war.
5 And there was one man there for thirty-eight years in his infirmity.
Es war aber ein Mensch daselbst, der achtunddreißig Jahre in seiner Krankheit zugebracht hatte.
6 When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he had been there a long time, he said to him, "Do you want to get well?"
Als Jesus diesen daliegen sah und erfuhr, daß es schon so lange Zeit mit ihm währte, spricht er zu ihm: Willst du gesund werden?
7 "Sir," answered the sick man, "I have no man to put me into the pool whenever the water is troubled; and while I am trying to come, some one else steps down before me."
Der Kranke antwortete ihm: Herr, ich habe keinen Menschen, der mich, wenn das Wasser bewegt wird, in den Teich befördert; während ich aber selbst komme, steigt ein anderer vor mir hinab.
8 "Rise," said Jesus, "take up your bed and go walking away."
Jesus spricht zu ihm: Steh auf, nimm dein Bett und wandle!
9 Instantly the man became well, and he took up his bed and started to walk. Now it was Sabbath on that day;
Und alsbald wurde der Mensch gesund, hob sein Bett auf und wandelte. Es war aber Sabbat an jenem Tage.
10 so the Jews kept saying to the man who had been cured. "It is the Sabbath Day; it is not lawful for you to carry your bed."
Nun sprachen die Juden zu dem Geheilten: Es ist Sabbat; es ist dir nicht erlaubt, das Bett zu tragen!
11 He replied, "The man who healed me told me to take up my bed and walk."
Er antwortete ihnen: Der mich gesund machte, sprach zu mir: Nimm dein Bett und wandle!
12 "Who is it," they asked, "that said to you, ‘take up your bed and go walking away’?"
Da fragten sie ihn: Wer ist der Mensch, der zu dir gesagt hat: Nimm es und wandle?
13 But he who had been healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had moved away, as there was a crowd in that place.
Aber der Geheilte wußte nicht, wer es war, denn Jesus war entwichen, weil so viel Volk an dem Orte war.
14 Afterward Jesus found him in the Temple, and said to him. "Look! You have become well. Do not go on sinning, lest a worse thing befall you."
Darnach findet ihn Jesus im Tempel und spricht zu ihm: Siehe zu, du bist gesund geworden; sündige hinfort nicht mehr, damit dir nicht etwas Ärgeres widerfahre.
15 The man went to and told the Jews that it was Jesus who made him well;
Da ging der Mensch hin und verkündete den Juden, es sei Jesus, der ihn gesund gemacht habe.
16 and because of this the Jews began to persecute Jesus, because he had done it on the Sabbath.
Und deshalb verfolgten die Juden Jesus und suchten ihn zu töten, weil er solches am Sabbat getan hatte.
17 But he answered them, "My Father has continued working until now, and I am working too."
Jesus aber antwortete ihnen: Mein Vater wirkt bis jetzt, und ich wirke auch.
18 For this reason the Jews continued to seek the more eagerly to put him to death, because not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was actually speaking of God as his own Father, thus making himself of God’s equal.
Darum suchten die Juden noch mehr, ihn zu töten, weil er nicht nur den Sabbat brach, sondern auch Gott seinen eigenen Vater nannte, womit er sich selbst Gott gleichstellte.
19 So Jesus answered them in these words. "In solemn truth I tell that the Son cannot do anything of himself, except what he sees the Father doing; for whatever he does, that the Son does also.
Da antwortete Jesus und sprach zu ihnen: Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch, der Sohn kann nichts von sich selbst tun, sondern nur, was er den Vater tun sieht; denn was dieser tut, das tut gleicherweise auch der Sohn.
20 "For the Father loves the Son, and shows him every thing that he himself is doing. And greater deeds than these will he show him, that you may wonder.
Denn der Vater liebt den Sohn und zeigt ihm alles, was er selbst tut; und er wird ihm noch größere Werke zeigen als diese, so daß ihr euch verwundern werdet.
21 "For just as the Father raises the dead and makes them alive, even so the Son makes whom he will alive.
Denn wie der Vater die Toten auferweckt und lebendig macht, so macht auch der Sohn lebendig, welche er will.
22 "The Father indeed does not judge any one, but has given all judgment to the Son,
Denn der Vater richtet auch niemand, sondern alles Gericht hat er dem Sohn übergeben,
23 "in order that all may honor the Son even as they honor the Father. He who does not honor Son, does not honor the Father who sent him.
damit alle den Sohn ehren, wie sie den Vater ehren. Wer den Sohn nicht ehrt, der ehrt den Vater nicht, der ihn gesandt hat.
24 "I tell you solemnly that he who listens to my messages and believes Him who sent me, has eternal life. He will not come under condemnation, but has passed out of death into life. (aiōnios g166)
Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch, wer mein Wort hört und dem glaubt, der mich gesandt hat, der hat ewiges Leben und kommt nicht ins Gericht, sondern er ist vom Tode zum Leben hindurchgedrungen. (aiōnios g166)
25 "Solemnly I tell you that the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear shall live.
Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch, die Stunde kommt und ist schon da, wo die Toten die Stimme des Sohnes Gottes hören werden, und die sie hören, werden leben.
26 "For as the Father has life in himself, so also has he granted to the Son to have life in himself.
Denn wie der Vater das Leben in sich selbst hat, also hat er auch dem Sohne verliehen, das Leben in sich selbst zu haben.
27 "And he has given him authority to pronounce judgment, because he is Son of man.
Und er hat ihm Macht gegeben, Gericht zu halten, weil er des Menschen Sohn ist.
28 "Do not wonder at this, because an hour is coming in which all who are in their graves shall hear his voice and shall come forth again;
Verwundert euch nicht darüber! Denn es kommt die Stunde, in welcher alle, die in den Gräbern sind, seine Stimme hören werden;
29 "those who have done good into a resurrection of life, and those who have practised evil to a resurrection of condemnation.
und es werden hervorgehen, die das Gute getan haben, zur Auferstehung des Lebens; die aber das Böse getan haben, zur Auferstehung des Gerichts.
30 "I can of my own self do nothing. As I listen, I judge, and my own judgment is just, because I am not seeking my own will, but the will of Him who sent me.
Ich kann nichts von mir selbst tun. Wie ich höre, so richte ich, und mein Gericht ist gerecht; denn ich suche nicht meinen Willen, sondern den Willen dessen, der mich gesandt hat.
31 "If I bear testimony concerning myself, my testimony is not valid.
Wenn ich von mir selbst zeuge, so ist mein Zeugnis nicht wahr.
32 "Another bears testimony to me, and I know that the testimony which he bears concerning me is valid.
Ein anderer ist es, der von mir zeugt; und ich weiß, daß das Zeugnis wahr ist, welches er von mir zeugt.
33 "You yourselves sent to John, and he has been and is a witness to the truth.
Ihr habt zu Johannes gesandt, und er hat der Wahrheit Zeugnis gegeben.
34 "(Though for myself I accept no witness from man; I only mention that you may be saved.)
Ich aber nehme das Zeugnis nicht von einem Menschen, sondern ich sage solches, damit ihr gerettet werdet.
35 "That man was the Lamp-burning and shining - and you were willing for a time rejoice in his light.
Jener war die brennende und scheinende Leuchte, ihr aber wolltet euch nur eine Stunde an ihrem Scheine ergötzen.
36 "But I have testimony greater than that of John; for the work which the Father has given me to bring to completion - the work which I am doing - bears testimony concerning me, that the Father has sent me.
Ich aber habe ein Zeugnis, welches größer ist als das des Johannes; denn die Werke, die mir der Vater gegeben hat, daß ich sie vollbringe, eben die Werke, die ich tue, zeugen von mir, daß der Vater mich gesandt hat.
37 "And the Father who sent me has himself borne testimony concerning me. None of you has heard his at any time or seen him,
Und der Vater, der mich gesandt hat, hat selbst von mir gezeugt. Ihr habt nie weder seine Stimme gehört noch seine Gestalt gesehen;
38 nor had his word dwelling within you, because you do not believe him whom he sent.
und sein Wort habt ihr nicht bleibend in euch, weil ihr dem nicht glaubet, den er gesandt hat.
39 "You are searching the Scriptures because you suppose that in tem you have eternal life; and though these are they that bear witness concerning me, (aiōnios g166)
Ihr erforschet die Schriften, weil ihr meinet, darin das ewige Leben zu haben; und sie sind es, die von mir zeugen. (aiōnios g166)
40 "you will not come to me that you may have life.
Und doch wollt ihr nicht zu mir kommen, um das Leben zu empfangen.
41 "I am not receiving honor from men, but I know you,
Ich nehme nicht Ehre von Menschen,
42 "that you have not the love of God in yourselves.
aber bei euch habe ich erkannt, daß ihr die Liebe Gottes nicht in euch habt.
43 "I am come in the name of my Father and you do not receive me. If another comes in his own name, him you will receive.
Ich bin im Namen meines Vaters gekommen, und ihr nehmet mich nicht an. Wenn ein anderer in seinem eigenen Namen kommt, den werdet ihr annehmen.
44 "How can you believe when you receive glory from, one another, and have no desire for the glory which comes from the only God?
Wie könnt ihr glauben, die ihr Ehre voneinander nehmet und die Ehre vom alleinigen Gott nicht suchet?
45 "Do not imagine that I shall accuse you to the Father. Moses is your accuser, on whom you build your hopes.
Denket nicht, daß ich euch bei dem Vater anklagen werde. Es ist einer, der euch anklagt: Mose, auf welchen ihr eure Hoffnung gesetzt habt.
46 "For if you believed Moses you would believe me, for he wrote about me.
Denn wenn ihr Mose glaubtet, so würdet ihr auch mir glauben; denn von mir hat er geschrieben.
47 And if you do not believe his writings, how will you ever believe my words?"
Wenn ihr aber seinen Schriften nicht glaubet, wie werdet ihr meinen Worten glauben?
