Ephesians 1
1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, to the saints who are in Ephesus and to the faithful in Christ Jesus,
Paulus, een apostel van Christus Jezus, door den wil van God, aan de heiligen die in Efesus zijn, en geloovigen in Christus Jezus,
2 grace to you and peace from God our father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
genade zij ulieden en vrede van God onzen Vader en van den Heere Jezus Christus!
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms in Christ.
Geprezen zij de God en Vader van onzen Heere Jezus Christus, die ons gezegend heeft met allen geestelijken zegen, in de hemelsche plaatsen, in Christus,
4 Even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world to be holy and without blemish in his sight.
zooals Hij ons heeft uitverkoren in Hem, vóór de grondlegging der wereld, opdat wij heilig en onbesmet zouden zijn voor zijn aangezicht;
5 For in his love he predestined us (such was the good pleasure of his will) to adoption for himself as sons through Jesus Christ,
en zooals Hij ons in liefde heeft uitverkoren om tot kinderen aangenomen te worden, door Jezus Christus, tot zich zelven, naar het welbehagen van zijn wil,
6 and to the praise of his glorious grace which he graciously bestowed upon us in the Beloved.
tot lof der glorie zijner genade, waarmede Hij ons heeft begenadigd in den Geliefde;
7 It is in him we have deliverance, the forgiveness of our trespasses, through his blood;
in wien wij hebben de verlossing door zijn bloed, de vergiffenis der overtredingen, naar den rijkdom zijner genade,
8 so abundantly did he lavish upon us the riches of his grace in all wisdom and understanding,
waarmede Hij overvloedig is geweest jegens ons, in alle wijsheid en verstand;
9 when he made known to us, I say, that good pleasure which he purposed in himself
daar Hij ons deed kennen de verborgenheid van zijn wil, naar zijn welbehagen, dat Hij in Hem had voorgenomen,
10 for the government of the fulness of the ages, that all things in heaven and earth are alike should be gathered up in Christ, as Head.
tot de bedeeling van de volheid der tijden, om alle dingen onder één Hoofd samen te brengen in Christus, die in de hemelen en die op de aarde zijn;
11 It is he in whom we Jews also have our inheritance, having been chosen beforehand according to the purpose of Him who executes all things according to the counsel of his will,
In Hem, in wien wij ook een erfdeel geworden zijn, te voren daartoe verkoren zijnde naar het voornemen van Hem die alle dingen werkt naar den raad van zijn wil,
12 that we who first hoped in Christ should be for the praise of his glory.
opdat wij zouden zijn tot lof zijner glorie, wij die te voren gehoopt hadden in Christus;
13 And in him, because you listened to the proclamation of the truth, the evangel of your salvation, and trusted it, you Gentiles too were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit,
in wien ook gij, — die het woord der waarheid, het Evangelie uwer behoudenis gehoord hebt— in wien ook gij, die geloofd hebt, verzegeld zijt door den Heiligen Geest der belofte,
14 who for the praise of his glory is the pledge of our common heritage, unto the complete redemption of his purchased property.
die een onderpand is onzer erfenis, tot verlossing van zijn eigendom, tot lof zijner glorie.
15 For this reason I also, from the time when I heard of the faith in the Lord Jesus which prevails among you, and your love to all the saints,
Daarom houd ook ik— die gehoord heb van het geloof in den Heere Jezus dat onder u is, en van de liefde tot al de heiligen,
16 do not cease to praise God for you, whenever I mention you in my prayers.
niet op voor u te danken, uwer gedenkende in mijn gebeden,
17 I am praying that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father most glorious, may grant you a spirit of wisdom and revelation, through an intimate knowledge of himself;
opdat de God van onzen Heere Jezus Christus, de Vader der glorie, ulieden geve een geest van wijsheid en openbaring in zijn kennis;
18 and that the eyes of your heart may be flooded with light so that you may understand what is the hope of his calling, what the wealth of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
hebbende de oogen uwer harten verlicht, opdat gij moogt weten welke de hope is zijner roeping, welke de rijkdom is der glorie zijner erfenis in de heiligen,
19 and what the surpassing greatness of his might in us who believe, as seen in the energy of that resistless might
en welke de alles overtreffende grootheid is zijner macht jegens ons die gelooven, naar de werking der kracht zijner sterkte,
20 which he exercised in raising Christ from the dead, and in seating him at his right hand in the heavenly heights,
die Hij gewrocht heeft in den Christus, toen Hij Hem opwekte uit de dooden en Hem zette aan zijn rechterhand in de hemelsche plaatsen,
21 far above all hierarchies and authorities and powers and dominions and every name that is named, not only in this age but in that which is to come. (aiōn g165)
verre boven alle overheid, en macht, en kracht, en heerschappij, en allen naam die genoemd wordt, niet alleen in deze eeuw, maar ook in de toekomende; (aiōn g165)
22 God has put all things under Christ’s feet, and placed him as Head over all in the church,
en alle dingen heeft Hij onder zijn voeten gesteld, en heeft Hem tot een Hoofd over alles gegeven aan de gemeente,
23 which is his body, the fulness of Him who fills the universe.
die zijn lichaam is, de volheid van Hem die alles in allen vervult.
