< Acts 9 >

1 Meanwhile Saul, still breathing out threats of murder against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest
Gidduudhuma sana Saaʼol barattoota Gooftaa ajjeesuuf dhaadachaa gara luba ol aanaa dhaqee,
2 and begged of him letters addressed to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he found any that were of the Way, either men or women, he could bind them and bring them to Jerusalem.
nama karaa kana irra jiru kam iyyuu dhiiras dubartiis yoo argate akka hidhee Yerusaalemitti geessuuf akka lubni sun gara manneen sagadaa kanneen Damaasqoo jiraniitti xalayaawwan isaaf barreessuuf isa kadhate.
3 And as he journeyed, when he was approaching Damascus, suddenly a light from heaven flashed round him.
Utuu inni deemaa jiruu akkuma Damaasqootti dhiʼaateen akkuma tasaa ifni tokko samii irraa naannoo isaatti balaqqise.
4 He fell to the ground, and heard a voice which said to him, "Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?"
Innis lafatti kufee sagalee, “Yaa Saaʼol, Yaa Saaʼol, ati maaliif na ariʼatta?” isaan jedhu tokko dhagaʼe.
5 And he said, "Who are you Lord?"
Saaʼolis, “Yaa Gooftaa, ati eenyu?” jedhee gaafate. Innis akkana jedhee deebiseef; “Ani Yesuus isa ati ariʼattuu dha. Arfii wayii dhiituun suma miidha.
6 "I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting," he said. "Stand up and go into the city, and there you shall be told what you must do."
Amma kaʼii magaalaa seeni; wanni ati gootu sitti himamaatii” jedheen.
7 Meanwhile the men who were his fellow travelers stood speechless, hearing indeed the voice, but beholding no one.
Namoonni Saaʼol wajjin deemaa turanis waan dubbatan dhabanii dhadhaabatan; isaanis sagalee dhagaʼan malee nama tokko illee hin argine.
8 And Saul got up from the ground, but although his eyes were open, he continued to perceive nothing; so they took him by the hand and led him into Damascus.
Saaʼolis lafaa kaʼe; innis yommuu iji isaa banametti homaa arguu hin dandeenye; isaanis harka isaa qabanii Damaasqootti isa geessan.
9 And he remained there three days, seeing nothing, and without eating or drinking.
Iji isaas Guyyaa sadii guutuu arguu hin dandeenye; innis homaa hin nyaanne; homaas hin dhugne.
10 Now there was in Damascus a disciple named Ananias, and the Lord spoke to him in a vision, saying, "Ananias!" And he answered, "Lo, I am here, Lord."
Damaasqoo keessa barataa Anaaniyaas jedhamu tokkotu ture. Gooftaanis mulʼataan, “Yaa Anaaniyaas!” jedhee isa waame. Innis, “Yaa Gooftaa, kunoo ani asin jira” jedhee deebise.
11 And the Lord said to him. "Arise, go into the street named ‘Straight,’ and make inquiries in the house of Judas for a man of Tarsus, one Saul.
Gooftaanis akkana jedheen; “Kaʼii gara daandii ‘Qajeelaa’ jedhamu sanaa mana Yihuudaa dhaqiitii nama Saaʼol jedhamu kan Xarseesii dhufe tokko iyyaafadhu; inni kadhannaa irra jiraatii.
12 He is now praying, and has seen a man named Ananias enter and lay his hands on him to restore his sight."
Saaʼolis nama Anaaniyaas jedhamu tokko isaa dhufee akka agartuun isaa deebiʼuufiif harka isa irra kaaʼu mulʼataan arge.”
13 "But, Lord," said Ananias, "I have heard from many about that man, and how much evil he did to the saints at Jerusalem!
Anaaniyaasis deebisee akkana jedhe; “Yaa Gooftaa, ani waaʼee namicha kanaa, miidhaa inni qulqulloota kee warra Yerusaalem jiraatan irratti hojjete hundumaa dhagaʼeera.
14 "In this city, too, he has authority from the chief priests to arrest all those who call upon thy name."
Ammas warra maqaa kee waammatan hunda hidhuuf jedhee luboota hangafoota irraa aangoo fudhatee dhufeera.”
15 "Go," answered the Lord, "this man is chosen instrument of mine to bear my name before the nations and their kings, and before the Children of Israel also;
Gooftaan garuu Anaaniyaasiin akkana jedhe; “Namichi kun miʼa koo kan ani akka inni namoota Ormaatii fi mootota isaanii duratti, saba Israaʼel durattis maqaa koo baatuuf jedhee filadhe waan taʼeef kaʼii dhaqi!
16 "for I am going to show him all he has to suffer for the sake of my name."
Ani akka inni maqaa kootiif jedhee rakkachuu qabu isattin argisiisa.”
17 And so Ananias went and entered into the house, and laying his hands on him, said, "Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, who appeared to you on your journey, has sent me that you may receive your sight, and be filled with the Holy Spirit."
Anaaniyaasis dhaqee mana sana seene. Harka isaas Saaʼol irra kaaʼee, “Yaa obboleessa koo Saaʼol, Gooftaa Yesuus inni utuu ati as dhuftuu karaa irratti sitti mulʼate sun akka ati argituu fi akka ati Hafuura Qulqulluun guutamtuuf na ergeera” jedhe.
18 Instantly something like scales fell from his eyes, and he received his sight. He arose and was baptized.
Yommusuma wanni akka qolaa ija Saaʼol irraa harcaʼe; inni ammas arguu dandaʼe. Kaʼees cuuphame.
19 Afterward he took food and was strengthened. And he remained for some time with the disciples at Damascus.
Nyaatas nyaatee jajjabaate. Saaʼol bultii gabaabduudhaaf barattoota Damaasqoo jiran bira bubbule.
20 And he began at once to proclaim in the synagogues Jesus as the Son of God.
Innis akka Yesuus ilma Waaqaa taʼe yeruma sana manneen sagadaa keessatti lallabuu jalqabe.
21 His hearers were all astonished, and began to say. "Is not this the very man who in Jerusalem made havoc of those who called upon the Name? Did he not come hither for the express purpose of carrying them all in chains to the high priests?"
Warri isa dhagaʼan hundinuus dinqifatanii akkana jedhan; “Namichi kun isuma Yerusaalem keessatti warra maqaa kana waammatan balleesse sana mitii? Ammas hidhee luboota hangafootatti isaan geessuuf dhufe mitii?”
22 But Saul gained more and more influence, and kept putting the Jews who lived in Damascus to confusion by his proof that Jesus was the Christ.
Saaʼol garuu ittuma jabaachaa deeme; innis akka Yesuus kun Kiristoos taʼe mirkaneessuudhaan Yihuudoota Damaasqoo keessa jiraatan afaan qabachiise.
23 And when many days were fulfilled the Jews made a plot to kill Saul;
Erga guyyaan hedduun darbee booddees Yihuudoonni isa ajjeesuuf mariʼatan.
24 but information of their plot was given Saul, and although they kept watch day and night on the gates, in order to make away with him,
Saaʼol garuu marii isaanii kana beeke; isaanis isa ajjeesuuf jedhanii halkanii guyyaa balbala magaalaa sanaa jabeessanii eegaa turan.
25 his disciples took him by night, and let him down over the wall, lowering him in a basket.
Barattoonni isaa garuu halkaniin fuudhanii guuboodhaan dallaa irraan dabarsanii gad isa buusan.
26 So he came to Jerusalem, and attempted to join the disciples, but they were all afraid of him, because they did not believe that he was a disciple.
Innis yommuu gara Yerusaalem dhufetti barattootatti dabalamuu yaale; isaanis waan barataa taʼuu isaa hin amaniniif hundi isaanii isa sodaatan.
27 But Barnabas took him and brought him to the apostles, and told them how Saul had seen the Lord in the way, and that he had spoken to him; and also how he had preached the Name of the Lord Jesus boldly at Damascus.
Barnaabaas immoo fuudhee ergamootatti isa geesse; akka Saaʼol itti karaatti gooftaa arge, akka itti gooftaan isatti dubbatee fi akka inni sodaa malee Damaasqoo keessatti maqaa Yesuusiitiin lallabe isaanitti hime.
28 Henceforth Saul was one of them, going in and out of the city, and speaking fearlessly in the Name of the Lord.
Saaʼolis isaan wajjin jiraatee Yerusaalem keessa sodaa malee baʼee galaa ture; maqaa Gooftaatiinis ija jabinaan lallabe.
29 He also used to hold conversations and debates with the Grecian Jews, but they kept trying to kill him.
Yihuudoota Giriikota keessa jiraatan wajjinis dubbachaa isaaniinis morkachaa ture; isaan garuu isa ajjeesuu barbaadan.
30 When they learned this the brothers took him down to Caesarea, and then sent him forth to Tarsus.
Obboloonnis yommuu waan kana beekanitti fuudhanii Qiisaariyaatti gad isa buusan; gara Xarsees isa ergan.
31 Now throughout the whole of Judea, Galilee, and Samaria the Church continued to enjoy peace and to be spiritually built up. It was increasing in members also, as it kept walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit.
Kanaafis waldaan kiristaanaa Yihuudaa, Galiilaa fi Samaariyaa keessa jirtu guutummaatti nagaa argatte; ni cimtes. Isheenis Hafuura Qulqulluudhaan jajjabaatee sodaa Gooftaatiin jiraachuudhaan baayʼinaan guddachaa deemte.
32 Now Peter, as he was going from town to town, came down also to the saints who lived in Lydda.
Phexros utuu biyya sana keessa naannaʼaa jiruu qulqulloota Liidaa keessa jiraatan ilaaluuf gad buʼe.
33 Here he found a man named Aeneas, bedridden for eight years, a paralytic.
Achittis namicha laamshaʼaa Eeniyaa jedhamu kan waggaa saddeeti siree irratti hafee ture tokko arge.
34 Peter said to him. "Aeneas, Jesus Christ cures you! Rise and make your own bed!"
Phexrosis, “Yaa Eeniyaa, Yesuus Kiristoos si fayyisa; kaʼiitii siree kee afadhu” jedheen. Eeniyaanis yommusuma kaʼe.
35 At once he rose to his feet. All the people of Lydda and Sharon saw him, and they turned to the Lord.
Namoonni Liidaa fi Shaaroon keessa jiraatan hundinuu isa arganii Gooftaatti deebiʼan.
36 Among the disciples at Joppa was a woman named Tabitha - which may be translated Dorcas or "Gazelle" - a woman whose life was full of good works and almsgiving, which she was doing continually.
Yoophee keessas barattuu Xaabiitaa jedhamtu tokkotu ture; Xaabiitaa jechuun Doorqaa jechuu dha. Isheenis yeroo hunda waan gaarii hojjetti; hiyyeeyyiis ni gargaarti turte.
37 She, as it happened, was taken ill just at that time, and died. After washing her body, they laid it in an upper room.
Isheenis baruma sana keessa dhukkubsattee duute; reeffa ishees dhiqanii kutaa darbii tokko keessa kaaʼan.
38 And as Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples, when they heard that Peter was there, sent two men to him with the entreaty, "Delay not to come to us."
Liidaan kun Yoopheetti dhiʼoo turte; barattoonnis yommuu akka Phexros Liidaa jiru dhagaʼanitti nama lama isatti erganii, “Maaloo dafii nu bira gaʼi!” jedhanii isa kadhatan.
39 So Peter arose and went with them. On his arrival they took him up- stairs, and all the widows stood near him, weeping, and showing him the cloaks and garments which Dorcas used to make, while she was still with them.
Phexrosis kaʼee isaan wajjin deeme; akkuma inni achi gaʼeenis gara kutaa darbii sanaatti isa geessan. Haadhonni hiyyeessaa hundinuu isa bira dhaabatanii kootii fi wayyaa biraa kan Doorqaan yeroo isaan wajjin turte hojjette sana isatti argisiisanii booʼaa turan.
40 But Peter put them all out, and kneeled down, and prayed; and then turning to the body, he said, "Tabitha, rise!" She opened her eyes, and on seeing Peter she sat up.
Phexrosis hunda isaanii gad baasee jilbeenfatee Waaqa kadhate; reeffa sanattis garagalee, “Xaabiitaa kaʼi!” jedhe. Isheenis ija ishee banattee Phexrosin argite; kaatees ni teesse.
41 Then he gave her his hand and raised her up, and after calling the saints and the widows, he gave her back to them alive.
Innis harka qabee ishee kaase; amantootaa fi haadhota hiyyeessaa waamee jiraattuu taatee isaan fuuldura dhaabe.
42 This incident became known throughout Joppa, and many believed in the Lord.
Kunis Yoophee hunda keessatti beekame; namoonni baayʼeenis Gooftaatti amanan.
43 Peter stayed for some time in Joppa, lodging in the house of Simon, the tanner.
Phexrosis Yoophee keessa gogaa duugduu Simoon jedhamu tokko bira guyyaa hedduu ture.
