< 1 Peter 3 >

1 In the same way you wives must be submissive to your own husbands; so that if some of them will not believe the message, they may apart from the message be won over by the behavior of their wives,
Bẹ́ẹ̀ gẹ́gẹ́, ẹ̀yin aya, ẹ máa tẹríba fún àwọn ọkọ yín; pé, bí ẹnikẹ́ni ba tilẹ̀ ń ṣe àìgbọ́ràn sí ọ̀rọ̀ náà, kí a lè jèrè wọn láì sọ̀rọ̀ nípa ìwà àwọn aya wọn.
2 when they see how pure and reverent you are.
Nígbà tí wọ́n bá ń wo ìwà rere pẹ̀lú ẹ̀rù yín.
3 Your adornment ought not to be the outward adornment of plaited hair and golden jewels and the wearing of beautiful dresses;
Kí ọ̀ṣọ́ yín má ṣe jẹ́ ọ̀ṣọ́ òde, tí irun dídì, àti wúrà lílò, tàbí ti aṣọ wíwọ̀;
4 but rather that hidden personality of the heart, the imperishable ornament of a quiet and gentle spirit, which in the sight of God is indeed precious.
ṣùgbọ́n kí ó jẹ́ ẹni tí ó fi ara sin ní ọkàn, nínú ọ̀ṣọ́ àìdíbàjẹ́ ti ẹ̀mí ìrẹ̀lẹ̀ àti ẹ̀mí tútù, èyí tí i ṣe iyebíye níwájú Ọlọ́run.
5 For in this way in the olden time the holy women also, who put their trust in God, used to adorn themselves. They were ever in submission to their own husbands;
Nítorí báyìí ni àwọn obìnrin mímọ́ ìgbàanì pẹ̀lú, tí wọ́n gbẹ́kẹ̀lé Ọlọ́run, fi ṣe ara wọn lọ́ṣọ̀ọ́, wọn a máa tẹríba fún àwọn ọkọ wọn.
6 thus, for example, Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord. And you are daughters of Sarah, if you do what is right, and permit nothing to make you afraid.
Gẹ́gẹ́ bí Sara ti gbọ́ ti Abrahamu, tí ó ń pè é ní olúwa rẹ̀. Ọmọbìnrin ẹni tí ẹ̀yin jẹ́, bí ẹ̀yin bá ń ṣe rere, tí ohunkóhun kò sí dẹ́rùbà yín.
7 In the same way you husbands live with your wives, according to knowledge, honoring your wife as of the weaker sex, yet as an heir with yourself of the grace of life; so that your prayers may not be hindered.
Bẹ́ẹ̀ gẹ́gẹ́ ẹ̀yin ọkọ, ẹ máa fi òye ba àwọn aya yín gbé, ẹ máa fi ọlá fún aya, bi ohun èlò ti kò lágbára, àti pẹ̀lú bí àjùmọ̀jogún oore-ọ̀fẹ́ ìyè; kí àdúrà yín má bà á ní ìdènà.
8 Finally, you should all be harmonious, sympathetic, loving as brothers, tender-hearted, humble-minded;
Lákòótan, kí gbogbo yín jẹ́ onínú kan, ẹ máa bá ara yín kẹ́dùn, ẹ ní ìfẹ́ ará, ẹ máa ṣe ìyọ́nú, ẹ ni ẹ̀mí ìrẹ̀lẹ̀.
9 not paying back evil for evil or abuse for abuse, but on the contrary giving a blessing. Because for this you have been called - to inherit a blessing.
Ẹ má ṣe fi búburú san búburú, tàbí fi èébú san èébú: ṣùgbọ́n kàkà bẹ́ẹ̀, ẹ máa súre; nítorí èyí ni a pè yín sí, kí ẹ̀yin lè jogún ìbùkún.
10 He who would love life and enjoy happy days, Let him keep his tongue from evil, And his lips from speaking guile;
Nítorí, “Ẹni tí yóò bá fẹ́ ìyè, ti yóò sì rí ọjọ́ rere, kí o pa ahọ́n rẹ̀ mọ́ kúrò nínú ibi, àti ètè rẹ̀ mọ́ kúrò nínú sísọ ọ̀rọ̀ ẹ̀tàn.
11 Let him turn from evil and do good, Let him seek peace, and pursue it.
Kí ó yà kúrò nínú ibi, kí ó sì máa ṣe rere; kí ó máa wá àlàáfíà, kí ó sì máa lépa rẹ̀.
12 For the eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, And his ears are open to their cry; But the face of the Lord is set against evil-doers.
Nítorí ojú Olúwa ń bẹ lára àwọn olódodo, etí rẹ̀ sì ṣí sí ẹ̀bẹ̀ wọn, ṣùgbọ́n ojú Olúwa korò sí àwọn tí ń ṣe búburú.”
13 Yet who will harm you if you become zealous for the good?
Tá nì yóò sì ṣe yín ní ibi, bí ẹ̀yin bá jẹ́ onítara sí ohun rere?
14 But even if you should suffer in behalf of righteousness, you are happy. Do not be afraid of their terror, neither be troubled.
Ṣùgbọ́n bí ẹ̀yin bá jìyà nítorí òdodo, a ti bùkún yín. “Ẹ má ṣe bẹ̀rù ìhàlẹ̀ wọn, kí ẹ má sì ṣe kọminú.”
15 But consecrate Christ in your hearts, as Lord. Be always in readiness to make and answer to any one who asks you a reason for the hope that is within you, yet with gentleness and reverence.
Ṣùgbọ́n ẹ bọ̀wọ̀ fún Kristi bí Olúwa ní ọkàn yín: kí ẹ sì múra tan nígbà gbogbo láti dá olúkúlùkù lóhùn tí ń béèrè ìrètí tí o ń bẹ nínú yín, ṣùgbọ́n pẹ̀lú ọkàn tútù àti ìbẹ̀rù.
16 See that you have a clear conscience, so that, although they speak of you as evil-doers, these libelers of your good Christian lives may be ashamed.
Kí ẹ máa ni ẹ̀rí ọkàn rere bí wọ́n ti ń sọ̀rọ̀ yín ní ibi, kí ojú lè ti àwọn tí ń kẹ́gàn ìwà rere yín nínú Kristi.
17 For it is better that you suffer for doing right, if such be God’s will, than for doing wrong;
Nítorí ó sàn, bí ó bá jẹ́ ìfẹ́ Ọlọ́run, kí ẹ jìyà fún ṣíṣe rere ju fún ṣíṣe búburú lọ.
18 because Christ also once for all suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God. He was put to death in the flesh, but make alive in spirit.
Nítorí tí Kristi pẹ̀lú jìyà lẹ́ẹ̀kan nítorí ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ wa, olóòótọ́ fún àwọn aláìṣòótọ́, kí a lè mú wa dé ọ̀dọ̀ Ọlọ́run, ẹni tí a pa nínú ara, ṣùgbọ́n tí a sọ di ààyè nínú ẹ̀mí.
19 (It was in spirit that he went and preached the Word to the spirits who were in prison,
Nínú èyí tí ó lọ pẹ̀lú tí ó sì wàásù fún àwọn ẹ̀mí nínú túbú,
20 who in old times had been disobedient, when God’s longsuffering was waiting in the days of Noah, while an ark was building, in which a few persons - eight in number - were saved by water.)
àwọn tí ó ṣe aláìgbọ́ràn nígbà kan, nígbà tí sùúrù Ọlọ́run dúró pẹ́ ní sá à kan ní ọjọ́ Noa, nígbà tí wọ́n fi kan ọkọ̀ nínú èyí tí a gba ọkàn díẹ̀ là nípa omi, èyí ni ẹni mẹ́jọ.
21 Baptism, the counterpart of that, now saves you (not the washing off of the filth of the flesh, but the prayer for a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Àpẹẹrẹ èyí ti ń gbà yín là nísinsin yìí pẹ̀lú, àní ìtẹ̀bọmi, kì í ṣe wíwẹ́ èérí ti ara nù, bí kò ṣe ìdáhùn ẹ̀rí ọkàn rere si Ọlọ́run, nípa àjíǹde Jesu Kristi.
22 He is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; to Him angels and authorities and powers have been made subject.
Ẹni tí ó lọ sí ọ̀run, tí ó sì ń bẹ lọ́wọ́ ọ̀tún Ọlọ́run: pẹ̀lú àwọn angẹli, àwọn aláṣẹ, àti àwọn alágbára sì tẹríba lábẹ́ rẹ̀.
