< Romans 5 >
1 Wherefore, being justified by faith, we have peace with God, through our Lord Jesus Christ--
Having been declared righteous, then, by faith, we have peace toward God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
2 through whom we have had introduction, also, by faith, into this favor in which we stand, and rejoice in the hope of the glory of God:
through whom also we have the access by faith into this grace in which we have stood, and we boast on the hope of the glory of God.
3 and not only so, but we rejoice even in afflictions; knowing that affliction produces patience;
And not only [so], but we also boast in the tribulations, knowing that the tribulation works endurance;
4 and patience, approbation; and approbation, hope.
and the endurance, experience; and the experience, hope;
5 And this hope makes not ashamed: because the love of God is diffused in our hearts by the Holy Spirit, that is given us.
and the hope does not make ashamed, because the love of God has been poured forth in our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.
6 Besides, we being yet weak, in the appointed time Christ died for the ungodly.
For in our being still ailing, Christ in due time died for the impious;
7 Now, scarcely for a just man will one die, though for a good man one would, perhaps, even dare to die.
for scarcely for a righteous man will anyone die, for the good man perhaps someone also dares to die;
8 But God recommends his love to us; because, while we were yet sinner, Christ died for us.
and God commends His own love to us, that, in our being still sinners, Christ died for us;
9 Much more, then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
much more, then, having been declared righteous now in His blood, we will be saved through Him from the wrath;
10 For if, being enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son; much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.
for if, being enemies, we have been reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we will be saved in His life.
11 And not only so, but we even rejoice in God, through our Lord Jesus Christ, though whom we have now received reconciliation.
And not only [so], but we are also boasting in God, through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we now received the reconciliation;
12 Wherefore, as sin entered into the world by one man, in whom all sinned, and by sin, death: thus death came upon all men.
because of this, even as through one man sin entered into the world, and through sin—death; and thus to all men death passed through, for that all sinned;
13 (For sin was in the world until the law: but sin is not imputed, when there is no law.
for until law sin was in the world: and sin is not reckoned when there is not law;
14 Yet death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them who had not sinned, in the manner of Adam's transgression, who is a type of him that was to come.
but death reigned from Adam until Moses, even on those having not sinned in the likeness of Adam’s transgression, who is a type of Him who is coming.
15 But not as the offense, so also is the free gift: for if by the offense of the one, the many died; much more the favor of God, and the gift by favor, which is of the one man, Jesus Christ, has abounded to the many.
But not as the offense so also [is] the free gift; for if by the offense of the one the many died, much more the grace of God, and the free gift in grace of the one man Jesus Christ, abound to the many;
16 And not as through one who sinner, is the free gift: for the sentence was from one to condemnation; but the free gift is from many offenses to justification.
and not as through one who sinned [is] the free gift, for the judgment indeed [is] of one to condemnation, but the gift [is] of many offenses to a declaration of “Righteous,”
17 For if by the offense of the one, death reigned by the one; much more shall they who receive the abundance of favor, and of the gift of justification, reign in life, by the one--Jesus Christ.)
for if by the offense of the one death reigned through the one, much more those who are receiving the abundance of grace and of the free gift of righteousness, in life will reign through the one—Jesus Christ.
18 Now, therefore, as through one offense, the sentence came upon all men to condemnation: so, also, by one act of obedience, the sentence came upon all men to justification of life.
So, then, as through one offense to all men [it is] to condemnation, so also through one declaration of “Righteous” [it is] to all men to justification of life;
19 For, as through the disobedience of the one, the many were constituted sinners; so, by the obedience of the one, the many shall be constituted righteous.
for as through the disobedience of the one man, the many were constituted sinners: so also through the obedience of the One, will the many be constituted righteous.
20 Moreover, the law supervened, that the offense might abound; but where sin abounded, favor superabounded--
And law came in, that the offense might abound, and where sin abounded, grace hyper-abounded,
21 that as sin reigned by death, so, also, favor might reign by justification to eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. (aiōnios )
that even as sin reigned in death, so also grace may reign, through righteousness, to continuous life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. (aiōnios )
