< Romans 2 >

1 Wherefore, you are inexcusable, O man! whosoever you are, who condemn: for in condemning another, you pass sentence upon yourself; because you, who condemn, practice the same things.
ⲁ̅ⲉⲧⲃⲉ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲙⲛⲧⲕϣⲁϫⲉ ⲙⲙⲁⲩ ⲉϫⲱ ⲱ ⲡⲣⲱⲙⲉ ⲟⲩⲟⲛ ⲛⲓⲙ ⲉⲧⲕⲕⲣⲓⲛⲉ ϩⲙ ⲡϩⲁⲡ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲉⲕⲕⲣⲓⲛⲉ ⲛⲕⲉⲟⲩⲁ ⲛϩⲏⲧϥ ⲕϭⲁⲓⲟ ⲙⲙⲟⲕ ⲟⲩⲁⲁⲕ ⲕⲉⲓⲣⲉ ⲅⲁⲣ ϩⲱⲱⲕ ⲙⲙⲟⲟⲩ ⲡⲉⲧⲕⲕⲣⲓⲛⲉ
2 Besides, we know that the sentence of God is according to truth, upon them who commit such things.
ⲃ̅ⲧⲛⲥⲟⲟⲩⲛ ⲅⲁⲣ ϫⲉ ⲡϩⲁⲡ ⲙⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ϣⲟⲟⲡ ⲙⲙⲉ ⲉϫⲛ ⲛⲉⲧⲉⲓⲣⲉ ⲛⲛⲁⲓ ⲛⲧⲉⲉⲓⲙⲓⲛⲉ
3 And do you think this, O man, who condemn those who practice such things, and yet do the same, that you shall escape the sentence of God?
ⲅ̅ⲉⲕⲙⲉⲉⲩⲉ ⲇⲉ ⲉⲡⲁⲓ ⲱ ⲡⲣⲱⲙⲉ ⲡⲉⲧⲕⲕⲣⲓⲛⲉ ⲛⲛⲉⲧⲉⲓⲣⲉ ⲛⲧⲉⲉⲓϩⲉ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲉⲕⲉⲓⲣⲉ ⲙⲙⲟⲟⲩ ϫⲉ ⲕⲛⲁⲣⲃⲟⲗ ⲛⲧⲟⲕ ⲉⲡϩⲁⲡ ⲙⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ
4 Or do you despise the riches of his goodness and forbearance and long-suffering; not acknowledging that the goodness of God invites you to a reformation?
ⲇ̅ϫⲛ ⲙⲙⲟⲛ ⲉⲕⲕⲁⲧⲁⲫⲣⲟⲛⲓ ⲛⲧⲙⲛⲧⲣⲙⲙⲁⲟ ⲛⲧⲉϥⲙⲛⲧⲭⲣⲏⲥⲧⲟⲥ ⲙⲛ ⲧⲉϥⲁⲛⲟⲭⲏ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲧⲉϥⲙⲛⲧϩⲁⲣϣϩⲏⲧ ⲉⲕⲟ ⲛⲁⲧⲥⲟⲟⲩⲛ ϫⲉ ⲉⲣⲉⲧⲙⲛⲧⲭⲣⲏⲥⲧⲟⲥ ⲙⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲉⲓⲛⲉ ⲙⲙⲟⲕ ⲉⲩⲙⲉⲧⲁⲛⲟⲓⲁ
5 But according to your obdurate and impenitent heart, you treasure up to yourself wrath, against a day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;
ⲉ̅ⲕⲁⲧⲁ ⲡⲉⲕⲛϣⲟⲧ ⲇⲉ ⲙⲛ ⲡⲉⲕϩⲏⲧ ⲉⲧⲉⲛϥⲙⲉⲧⲁⲛⲟⲓ ⲁⲛ ⲉⲕⲥⲱⲟⲩϩ ⲛⲁⲕ ⲉϩⲟⲩⲛ ⲛⲟⲩⲟⲣⲅⲏ ϩⲙ ⲡⲉϩⲟⲟⲩ ⲛⲧⲟⲣⲅⲏ ⲙⲛ ⲡϭⲱⲗⲡ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲙⲡϩⲁⲡ ⲙⲙⲉ ⲙⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ
6 who will render to every one according to his works:
ⲋ̅ⲡⲁⲓ ⲉⲧⲛⲁⲧⲱⲱⲃⲉ ⲙⲡⲟⲩⲁ ⲡⲟⲩⲁ ⲕⲁⲧⲁ ⲛⲉϥϩⲃⲏⲩⲉ
7 eternal life, indeed, to them who, by perseverance in well-doing, seek glory, honor, and immortality: (aiōnios g166)
ⲍ̅ⲛⲉⲧϣⲟⲟⲡ ⲙⲉⲛ ⲕⲁⲧⲁ ⲑⲩⲡⲟⲙⲟⲛⲏ ⲙⲡϩⲱⲃ ⲉⲧⲛⲁⲛⲟⲩϥ ⲉⲧϣⲓⲛⲉ ⲛⲥⲁ ⲡⲉⲟⲟⲩ ⲙⲛ ⲡⲧⲁⲉⲓⲟ ⲙⲛⲧⲙⲛⲧⲁⲧⲧⲁⲕⲟ ⲛⲟⲩⲱⲛϩ ϣⲁ ⲉⲛⲉϩ (aiōnios g166)
8 but anger and wrath to them who are contentious, and obey not the truth, but obey unrighteousness.
ⲏ̅ⲛⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲇⲉ ϩⲛ ⲟⲩϯⲧⲱⲛ ⲉⲧⲟ ⲛⲁⲧⲥⲱⲧⲙ ⲛⲥⲁ ⲧⲙⲉ ⲉⲧⲡⲓⲑⲉ ⲇⲉ ⲉⲡϫⲓ ⲛϭⲟⲛⲥ ⲟⲩⲟⲣⲅⲏ ⲙⲛ ⲟⲩϭⲱⲛⲧ
9 Affliction and great distress shall come upon every soul of man who works evil; first of the Jews, and also of the Greek.
ⲑ̅ⲙⲛ ⲟⲩⲑⲗⲓⲯⲓⲥ ⲙⲛ ⲟⲩⲗⲱϫϩ ⲉϫⲛ ⲯⲩⲭⲏ ⲛⲓⲙ ⲛⲣⲱⲙⲉ ⲉⲧⲣϩⲱⲃ ⲉⲡⲡⲉⲑⲟⲟⲩ ⲧⲁ ⲡⲓⲟⲩⲇⲁⲓ ⲛϣⲟⲣⲡ ⲙⲛ ⲡⲟⲩⲉⲓⲉⲛⲓⲛ
10 But glory, honor, and peace to every one who works good: first to the Jews, and also to the Greek.
ⲓ̅ⲡⲉⲟⲟⲩ ⲇⲉ ⲙⲛ ⲡⲧⲁⲉⲓⲟ ⲙⲛ ϯⲣⲏⲛⲏ ⲛⲟⲩⲟⲛ ⲛⲓⲙ ⲉⲧⲣϩⲱⲃ ⲉⲡⲡⲉⲧⲛⲁⲛⲟⲩϥ ⲙⲡⲓⲟⲩⲇⲁⲓ ⲛϣⲟⲣⲡ ⲙⲛ ⲡⲟⲩⲉⲓⲉⲛⲓⲛ
11 For there is no respect of persons with God.
ⲓ̅ⲁ̅ⲙⲛϫⲓϩⲟ ⲅⲁⲣ ϩⲁⲧⲙ ⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ
12 As many, therefore, as have sinned without law, shall also perish without law; and as many as have sinned under law, shall be condemned by law:
ⲓ̅ⲃ̅ⲛⲉⲛⲧⲁⲩⲣⲛⲟⲃⲉ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲁϫⲛ ⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲉⲩⲛⲁϩⲉ ⲟⲛ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲁϫⲛ ⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲛⲉⲛⲧⲁⲩⲣⲛⲟⲃⲉ ϩⲙ ⲡⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲉⲩⲛⲁⲕⲣⲓⲛⲉ ⲙⲙⲟⲟⲩ ϩⲓⲧⲙ ⲡⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ
13 for not those who hear the law are just before God; but those who obey the law, shall be justified.
ⲓ̅ⲅ̅ⲛⲉⲧⲥⲱⲧⲙ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲁⲛ ⲉⲡⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲛⲉ ⲛⲇⲓⲕⲁⲓⲟⲥ ⲛⲛⲁϩⲣⲙ ⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲁⲗⲗⲁ ⲛⲉⲧⲉⲓⲣⲉ ⲙⲡⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲛⲉⲧⲟⲩⲛⲁⲧⲙⲁⲉⲓⲟⲟⲩ
14 When, therefore, the Gentiles, who have not a law, do by nature the things of the law, are a law to themselves:
ⲓ̅ⲇ̅ϩⲟⲧⲁⲛ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲛϩⲉⲑⲛⲟⲥ ⲉⲧⲉⲙⲛⲧⲟⲩ ⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲫⲩⲥⲉⲓ ⲥⲉⲉⲓⲣⲉ ⲛⲛⲁ ⲡⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲛⲁⲓ ⲉⲧⲉⲙⲛⲧⲟⲩ ⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲥⲉϣⲟⲟⲡ ⲛⲁⲩ ⲛⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲙⲁⲩⲁⲁⲩ
15 who show plainly the work of the law, written on their hearts; their conscience bearing witness, and also their reasonings between one another, when they accuse or excuse each other.
ⲓ̅ⲉ̅ⲛⲁⲓ ⲉⲩⲧⲟⲩⲟ ⲙⲙⲟⲕ ⲉⲡϩⲱⲃ ⲙⲡⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲉϥⲥⲏϩ ϩⲙ ⲡⲉⲩϩⲏⲧ ⲉⲣⲉⲧⲉⲩⲥⲩⲛⲓⲇⲏⲥⲓⲥ ⲣⲙⲛⲧⲣⲉ ⲛⲙⲙⲁⲩ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲛⲧⲙⲏⲧⲉ ⲛⲛⲉⲩⲙⲟⲕⲙⲉⲕ ϩⲓ ⲟⲩⲥⲟⲡ ⲉⲩⲅⲁⲧⲏⲅⲟⲣⲓ ⲏ ⲟⲛ ⲉⲩⲟⲩⲱϩⲙ
16 In the day when God will judge the hidden things of men by Jesus Christ, according to my gospel.
ⲓ̅ⲋ̅ϩⲙ ⲡⲉϩⲟⲟⲩ ⲉⲧⲉⲣⲉⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲛⲁⲕⲣⲓⲛⲉ ⲙⲛ ⲡⲉⲑⲏⲡ ⲛⲛⲣⲱⲙⲉ ⲕⲁⲧⲁ ⲡⲁⲉⲩⲁⲅⲅⲉⲗⲓⲟⲛ ϩⲓⲧⲛ ⲓⲏⲥ ⲡⲉⲭⲥ
17 If, now, you are called a Jew, and rest in the law, and boast in God,
ⲓ̅ⲍ̅ⲉϣϫⲉ ⲛⲧⲟⲕ ⲇⲉ ⲉⲩⲙⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲉⲣⲟⲕ ϫⲉ ⲡⲓⲟⲩⲇⲁⲓ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲕⲙⲧⲟⲛ ⲙⲙⲟⲕ ϩⲙ ⲡⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲕϣⲟⲩϣⲟⲩ ⲙⲙⲟⲕ ϩⲙ ⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ
18 and know his will, and approve the things that are excellent, being instructed by the law;
ⲓ̅ⲏ̅ⲁⲩⲱ ⲕⲥⲟⲟⲩⲛ ⲙⲡⲉϥⲟⲩⲱϣ ⲕⲇⲟⲕⲓⲙⲁⲍⲉ ⲛⲛⲉⲧⲣⲛⲟϥⲣⲉ ⲉⲩⲧⲥⲁⲃⲟ ⲙⲙⲟⲕ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲙ ⲡⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ
19 and boast that you yourselves are a guide of the blind, a light of them who are in darkness,
ⲓ̅ⲑ̅ⲉⲕⲛⲁϩⲧⲉ ⲉⲣⲟⲕ ϫⲉ ⲉⲕⲟ ⲛϫⲁⲩⲙⲟⲉⲓⲧ ⲛⲛⲃⲗⲗⲉ ⲛⲟⲩⲟⲉⲓⲛ ⲛⲛⲉⲧϩⲙ ⲡⲕⲁⲕⲉ
20 and instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, having the representation of knowledge and of truth in the law:
ⲕ̅ⲛⲣⲉϥϯ ⲥⲃⲱ ⲛⲁⲑⲏⲧ ⲛⲥⲁϩ ⲛⲛϣⲏⲣⲉ ϣⲏⲙ ⲉⲩⲛⲧⲁⲕ ⲙⲙⲁⲩ ⲙⲡϩⲣⲃ ⲙⲡⲥⲟⲟⲩⲛ ⲛⲧⲙⲉ ϩⲙ ⲡⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ
21 you, then, who teach another; do you not teach yourself? You who proclaim, Do not steal; do you steal?
ⲕ̅ⲁ̅ⲡⲉⲧϯ ⲥⲃⲱ ϭⲉ ⲛⲕⲉⲟⲩⲁ ⲉⲧⲃⲉ ⲟⲩ ⲛⲅϯ ⲥⲃⲱ ⲛⲁⲕ ⲁⲛ ⲡⲉⲧⲧⲁϣⲉⲟⲉⲓϣ ϫⲉ ⲙⲡⲣϫⲓ ⲟⲩⲉ ⲕϫⲓⲟⲩⲉ
22 You who command, Do not commit adultery; do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols; do you rob temples?
ⲕ̅ⲃ̅ⲡⲉⲧϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ϫⲉ ⲙⲡⲣⲣⲛⲟⲉⲓⲕ ⲕⲟ ⲛⲛⲟⲉⲓⲕ ⲡⲉⲧϥⲱⲧⲉ ⲛⲛⲉⲓⲇⲱⲗⲟⲛ ⲕϣⲱⲗ ⲛⲛⲉⲣⲡⲏⲩⲉ
23 You who boast in the law; by the breaking of the law, do you dishonor God?
ⲕ̅ⲅ̅ⲉⲕϣⲟⲩϣⲟⲩ ⲙⲙⲟⲕ ϩⲙ ⲡⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ϩⲓⲧⲙ ⲡⲧⲣⲉⲕⲡⲁⲣⲁⲃⲁ ⲙⲡⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲕⲥⲱϣ ⲙⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ
24 For it is written, "The name of God is evil spoken of among the Gentiles, through you."
ⲕ̅ⲇ̅ⲡⲣⲁⲛ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲙⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲉⲩϫⲓⲟⲩⲁ ⲉⲣⲟϥ ϩⲛ ⲛϩⲉⲑⲛⲟⲥ ⲉⲧⲃⲉ ⲧⲏⲩⲧⲛ ⲕⲁⲧⲁ ⲑⲉ ⲉⲧⲥⲏϩ
25 Now circumcision indeed profits, if you practice law; but if you be a transgressor of law, your circumcision has become uncircumcision.
ⲕ̅ⲉ̅ⲡⲥⲃⲃⲉ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲣⲛⲟϥⲣⲉ ⲉⲕϣⲁⲛⲣ ⲡⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲉϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲇⲉ ⲛⲧⲕ ⲟⲩⲡⲁⲣⲁⲃⲁⲧⲏⲥ ⲛⲧⲉ ⲡⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲁⲡⲉⲕⲥⲃⲃⲉ ϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲙⲙⲛⲧⲁⲧⲥⲃⲃⲉ
26 And if the uncircumcision keep the precepts of the law, will not his uncircumcision be counted for circumcision?
ⲕ̅ⲋ̅ⲉϣⲱⲡⲉ ϭⲉ ⲉⲣϣⲁⲛⲧⲙⲛⲧⲁⲧⲥⲃⲃⲉ ϩⲁⲣⲉϩ ⲉⲛⲇⲓⲕⲁⲓⲱⲙⲁ ⲙⲡⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲉⲛⲥⲉⲛⲁⲉⲡ ⲧⲉϥⲙⲛⲧⲁⲧⲥⲃⲃⲉ ⲁⲛ ⲡⲉ ⲉⲩⲥⲃⲃⲉ
27 And will not the uncircumcision which by nature fulfills the law, condemn you, a transgressor of law, though in possession of the scriptures and circumcision?
ⲕ̅ⲍ̅ⲛⲧⲉⲧⲙⲛⲧⲁⲧⲥⲃⲃⲉ ⲧⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲛ ⲧⲉⲫⲩⲥⲓⲥ ⲉⲁⲥϫⲉⲕ ⲡⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲛⲥⲕⲣⲓⲛⲉ ⲙⲙⲟⲕ ⲡⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲓⲧⲙ ⲡⲉⲥϩⲁⲓ ⲙⲛ ⲡⲥⲃⲃⲉ ⲉⲧⲟ ⲙⲡⲁⲣⲁⲃⲁⲧⲏⲥ ⲙⲡⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ
28 For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly; neither is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh:
ⲕ̅ⲏ̅ⲙⲡⲓⲟⲩⲇⲁⲓ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲉⲧⲟⲩⲟⲛϩ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲡⲉ ⲡⲓⲟⲩⲇⲁⲓ ⲟⲩⲇⲉ ⲙⲡⲥⲃⲃⲉ ⲁⲛ ⲉⲧⲟⲩⲟⲛϩ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲛ ⲧⲥⲁⲣⲝ ⲡⲉ ⲡⲥⲃⲃⲉ
29 but he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is of the heart, in the spirit, not in the letter; whose praise is not from men, but from God.
ⲕ̅ⲑ̅ⲁⲗⲗⲁ ⲡⲓⲟⲩⲇⲁⲓ ⲉⲑⲏⲡ ⲡⲉ ⲡⲓⲟⲩⲇⲁⲓ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲡⲥⲃⲃⲉ ⲡⲉ ⲡⲥⲃⲃⲉ ⲙⲡϩⲏⲧ ϩⲛ ⲟⲩⲡⲛⲁ ϩⲛ ⲟⲩⲥϩⲁⲓ ⲁⲛ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲉⲧⲉⲣⲉⲡⲉϥⲧⲁⲉⲓⲟ ϣⲟⲟⲡ ⲁⲛ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲛ ⲛⲣⲱⲙⲉ ⲁⲗⲗⲁ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲓⲧⲙ ⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ
