< Matthew 3 >
1 In those days appeared John the Immerser, who proclaimed in the wilderness of Judea, saying,
ⲁ̅ϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲇⲉ ϩⲛ ⲛⲉϩⲟⲟⲩ ⲉⲧⲙⲙⲁⲩ ⲁϥⲉⲓ ⲛϭⲓ ⲓⲱϩⲁⲛⲛⲏⲥ ⲡⲃⲁⲡⲧⲓⲥⲧⲏⲥ ⲉϥⲧⲁϣⲉⲟⲉⲓϣ ϩⲣⲁⲓ ϩⲙ ⲡϫⲁⲓⲉ ⲛϯⲟⲩⲇⲁⲓⲁ
2 Reform, for the Reign of Heaven approaches.
ⲃ̅ⲉϥϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ϫⲉ ⲙⲉⲧⲁⲛⲟⲓ ⲁⲥϩⲱⲛ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲉϩⲟⲩⲛ ⲛϭⲓ ⲧⲙⲛⲧⲣⲣⲟ ⲛⲙⲡⲏⲩⲉ
3 For this is he, of whom the Prophet Isaiah speaks in these words, "The voice of one proclaiming in the wilderness, Prepare a way for the Lord, make for him a straight passage."
ⲅ̅ⲡⲁⲓ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲡⲉⲛⲧⲁⲩϫⲟⲟϥ ϩⲓⲧⲛ ⲏⲥⲁⲓⲁⲥ ⲡⲉⲡⲣⲟⲫⲏⲧⲏⲥ ⲉϥϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ϫⲉ ⲧⲉⲥⲙⲏ ⲙⲡⲉⲧⲱϣ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲓ ⲡϫⲁⲓⲉ ϫⲉ ⲥⲃⲧⲉ ⲧⲉϩⲓⲏ ⲙⲡϫⲟⲉⲓⲥ ⲛⲧⲉⲧⲛⲥⲟⲟⲩⲧⲛ ⲛⲛⲉϥⲙⲁ ⲛⲙⲟⲟϣⲉ
4 Now John wore raiment of camel's hair with a letter girdle about his waist; and his food was locusts and wild honey.
ⲇ̅ⲛⲧⲟϥ ⲇⲉ ⲓⲱϩⲁⲛⲛⲏⲥ ⲛⲉⲣⲉⲧⲉϥϩⲃⲥⲱ ϣⲟⲟⲡ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲛ ϩⲉⲛⲃⲱ ⲛϭⲁⲙⲟⲩⲗ ⲉⲣⲉⲟⲩⲙⲟϫϩ ⲛϣⲁⲁⲣ ϭⲟⲟⲗⲉ ⲉⲧⲉϥϯⲡⲉ ⲧⲉϥϩⲣⲉ ⲇⲉ ⲛⲉϩⲉⲛϣϫⲉ ⲛⲉ ⲙⲛⲟⲩⲉⲃⲓⲉ ϩⲟⲟⲩⲧ
5 Then Jerusalem, and all Judea, and all the country along the Jordan, resorted to him,
ⲉ̅ⲧⲟⲧⲉ ⲛⲉⲥⲛⲏⲩ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲉⲣⲁⲧϥ ⲛϭⲓ ⲑⲓⲉⲣⲟⲥⲟⲗⲩⲙⲁ ⲧⲏⲣⲥ ⲙⲛ ϯⲟⲩⲇⲁⲓⲁ ⲙⲛ ⲧⲡⲉⲣⲓⲭⲱⲣⲟⲥ ⲧⲏⲣⲥ ⲙⲡⲉⲓⲟⲣⲇⲁⲛⲏⲥ
6 and were immersed by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins.
ⲋ̅ⲉⲩϫⲓ ⲃⲁⲡⲧⲓⲥⲙⲁ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲓⲧⲟⲟⲧϥ ϩⲙ ⲡⲉⲓⲟⲣⲇⲁⲛⲏⲥ ⲡⲉⲓⲉⲣⲟ ⲉⲩⲉⲝⲟⲙⲟⲗⲟⲅⲉⲓ ⲛⲛⲉⲩⲛⲟⲃⲉ
7 But he seeing many Pharisees and Sadducees coming to him to receive immersion, said to them, Offspring of vipers, who has prompted you to flee from the impending vengeance?
ⲍ̅ⲛⲧⲉⲣⲉϥⲛⲁⲩ ⲇⲉ ⲉϩⲁϩ ϩⲛ ⲛⲉⲫⲁⲣⲓⲥⲥⲁⲓⲟⲥ ⲙⲛ ⲛⲥⲁⲇⲇⲟⲩⲕⲁⲓⲟⲥ ⲉⲩⲛⲏⲩ ⲉϫⲙ ⲡⲃⲁⲡⲧⲓⲥⲙⲁ ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ⲛⲁⲩ ϫⲉ ⲛⲉϫⲡⲟ ⲛⲛⲉϩⲃⲟⲩⲓ ⲛⲓⲙ ⲡⲉⲛⲧⲁϥⲧⲥⲁⲃⲉ ⲧⲏⲩⲧⲛ ⲉⲡⲱⲧ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲏⲧⲥ ⲛⲧⲟⲣⲅⲏ ⲉⲧⲛⲏⲩ
8 Produce, then, the proper fruit of reformation;
ⲏ̅ⲁⲣⲓⲣⲉ ϭⲉ ⲛⲟⲩⲕⲁⲣⲡⲟⲥ ⲉϥⲙⲡϣⲁ ⲛⲧⲙⲉⲧⲁⲛⲟⲓⲁ
9 and presume not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham for our father, for I assure you, that of these stones God can raise children to Abraham.
ⲑ̅ⲛⲧⲉⲧⲛⲧⲙⲙⲉⲉⲩⲉ ⲉϫⲟⲟⲥ ⲛϩⲏⲧⲧⲏⲩⲧⲛ ϫⲉ ⲟⲩⲛⲧⲁⲛ ⲙⲙⲁⲩ ⲙⲡⲉⲛⲉⲓⲱⲧ ⲁⲃⲣⲁϩⲁⲙ ϯϫⲱ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ⲛⲏⲧⲛ ϫⲉ ⲟⲩⲛϭⲟⲙ ⲙⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲉⲧⲟⲩⲛⲉⲥ ϩⲉⲛϣⲏⲣⲉ ⲛⲁⲃⲣⲁϩⲁⲙ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲛ ⲛⲉⲓⲱⲛⲉ
10 And even now the ax lies at the root of the trees; every tree, therefore, which produces not good fruit, is cut down, and turned into fuel.
ⲓ̅ϫⲓⲛ ⲧⲉⲛⲟⲩ ⲇⲉ ⲡⲕⲉⲗⲉⲃⲓⲛ ⲕⲏ ϩⲁ ⲧⲛⲟⲩⲛⲉ ⲛⲛϣⲏⲛ ϣⲏⲛ ϭⲉ ⲛⲓⲙ ⲉⲧⲉⲛϥⲛⲁⲉⲓⲣⲉ ⲁⲛ ⲛⲟⲩⲕⲁⲣⲡⲟⲥ ⲉⲛⲁⲛⲟⲩϥ ⲥⲉⲛⲁⲕⲟⲟⲣⲉϥ ⲛⲥⲉⲛⲟϫϥ ⲉⲧⲥⲁⲧⲉ
11 I, indeed, immerse you in water, into reformation; but he who comes after me, is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to carry. He will immerse you in the Holy Spirit, and in fire.
ⲓ̅ⲁ̅ⲁⲛⲟⲕ ⲙⲉⲛ ⲉⲓⲃⲁⲡⲧⲓⲍⲉ ⲙⲙⲱⲧⲛ ϩⲛ ⲟⲩⲙⲟⲟⲩ ⲉⲩⲙⲉⲧⲁⲛⲟⲓⲁ ⲡⲉⲧⲛⲏⲩ ⲇⲉ ϥϫⲟⲟⲣ ⲉⲣⲟⲓ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲛϯⲙⲡϣⲁ ⲁⲛ ⲛϥⲓ ϩⲁ ⲡⲉϥⲧⲟⲟⲩⲉ ⲛⲧⲟϥ ⲡⲉⲧⲛⲁⲃⲁⲡⲧⲓⲍⲉ ⲙⲙⲱⲧⲛ ϩⲛ ⲟⲩⲡⲛⲁ ⲉϥⲟⲩⲁⲁⲃ ⲙⲛⲟⲩⲥⲁⲧⲉ
12 His winnowing shovel is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his grain; he will gather his wheat into the granary, and consume the chaff in unquenchable fire.
ⲓ̅ⲃ̅ⲡⲁⲓ ⲉⲧⲉⲣⲉⲡⲉϥϩⲁ ϩⲛ ⲧⲉϥϭⲓϫ ⲉϥⲛⲁⲧⲃⲃⲟ ⲙⲡⲉϥϫⲛⲟⲟⲩ ⲛϥⲥⲱⲟⲩϩ ⲉϩⲟⲩⲛ ⲙⲡⲉϥⲥⲟⲩⲟ ⲉⲧⲁⲡⲟⲑⲏⲕⲏ ⲡⲧⲱϩ ⲇⲉ ⲛϥⲣⲟⲕϩϥ ϩⲛ ⲟⲩⲥⲁⲧⲉ ⲉⲙⲉⲥⲱϣⲙ
13 Then came Jesus from Galilee to the Jordan, to be immersed by John.
ⲓ̅ⲅ̅ⲧⲟⲧⲉ ⲁϥⲉⲓ ⲛϭⲓ ⲓⲏⲥ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲛ ⲧⲅⲁⲗⲓⲗⲁⲓⲁ ⲉϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲉϫⲙ ⲡⲓⲟⲣⲇⲁⲛⲏⲥ ϣⲁⲓⲱϩⲁⲛⲛⲏⲥ ⲉⲧⲣⲉϥⲃⲁⲡⲧⲓⲍⲉ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲓⲧⲟⲟⲧϥ
14 But John excused himself, saying, It is I who need to be immersed by you; and you come to me!
ⲓ̅ⲇ̅ⲛⲧⲟϥ ⲇⲉ ⲁϥⲕⲱⲗⲩ ⲙⲙⲟϥ ⲉϥϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ϫⲉ ⲁⲛⲟⲕ ⲉⲧⲣⲭⲣⲓⲁ ⲛⲃⲁⲡⲧⲓⲍⲉ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲓ ⲧⲟⲟⲧⲕ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲛⲧⲟⲕ ⲉⲧⲛⲏⲩ ϣⲁⲣⲟⲓ
15 Jesus answering, said to him, Permit this at present; for thus ought we to ratify every institution. Then John acquiesced.
ⲓ̅ⲉ̅ⲁⲩⲟⲩⲱϣⲃ ⲇⲉ ⲛϭⲓ ⲓⲏⲥ ⲉϥϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ⲛⲁϥ ϫⲉ ϭⲱ ⲧⲉⲛⲟⲩ ⲧⲁⲓ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲧⲉ ⲑⲉ ⲉⲧⲉϣϣⲉ ⲉⲣⲟⲛ ⲉϫⲱⲕ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲛⲇⲓⲕⲁⲓⲟⲥⲩⲛⲏ ⲛⲓⲙ ⲧⲟⲧⲉ ⲁϥⲕⲁⲁϥ
16 Jesus being immersed, no sooner arose out of the water, than heaven was opened to him; and the Spirit of God appeared, descending like a dove, and lighting upon him;
ⲓ̅ⲋ̅ⲛⲧⲉⲣⲉϥⲃⲁⲡⲧⲓⲍⲉ ϭⲉ ⲛϭⲓ ⲓⲏⲥ ⲛⲧⲉⲩⲛⲟⲩ ⲁϥⲉⲓ ⲉϩⲣⲁⲓ ϩⲙ ⲡⲙⲟⲟⲩ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲉⲓⲥ ϩⲏⲏⲧⲉ ⲁⲩⲟⲩⲱⲛ ⲛϭⲓ ⲙⲡⲏⲩⲉ ⲁϥⲛⲁⲩ ⲉⲡⲉⲡⲛⲁ ⲙⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲉϥⲛⲏⲩ ⲉⲡⲉⲥⲏⲧ ⲛⲑⲉ ⲛⲟⲩϭⲣⲟⲟⲙⲡⲉ ⲉϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲉϫⲱϥ
17 while a voice from heaven proclaimed, This is my Son, the beloved, in whom I delight.
ⲓ̅ⲍ̅ⲁⲩⲱ ⲉⲓⲥ ϩⲏⲏⲧⲉ ⲉⲓⲥ ⲟⲩⲥⲙⲏ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲛ ⲙⲡⲏⲩⲉ ⲉⲥϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ϫⲉ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲡⲉ ⲡⲁϣⲏⲣⲉ ⲡⲁⲙⲉⲣⲓⲧ ⲡⲉⲛⲧⲁⲡⲁⲟⲩⲱϣ ϣⲱⲡⲉ ϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲛϩⲏⲧϥ
