< Luke 3 >

1 Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius, Pontius Pilate being procurator of Judea, Herod tetrarch of Galilee, Philip, his brother, tetrarch of Iturea, and the province of Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene;
Nʼafọ nke iri na ise nke ọchịchị Tiberiọs Siza, mgbe Pọntiọs Pailet bụ onye na-achị Judịa, ebe Herọd bụkwa onye na-achị akụkụ Galili, ma nwanne ya nwoke bụ Filip na-achị akụkụ Iturịa na Trakona, Laisania bụkwa onye na-achị akụkụ Abilin,
2 in the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John the son of Zacharias, in the wilderness.
mgbe ahụ Anas na Kaịfas bụ ndịisi nchụaja, okwu Chineke bịakwutere Jọn nwa Zekaraya nʼime ọzara.
3 And he went through all the country along the Jordan, publishing the immersion of reformation for the remission of sins.
Ọ gara nʼime obodo niile gbara Jọdan gburugburu na-ekwusa banyere baptizim nke nchegharị maka mgbaghara mmehie.
4 As it is written in the book of the prophet Isaiah, "The voice of one proclaiming in the wilderness, Prepare a way for the Lord, make for him a straight passage.
Dịka e dere ya nʼakwụkwọ Aịzaya onye amụma sị, “Otu onye na-eti mkpu nʼọzara na-asị, ‘Dozienụ ụzọ maka Onyenwe anyị, meenụ ka okporoụzọ ya guzozie.
5 Let every valley be filled, every mountain and hill be levelled; let the crooked roads be made straight, and the rough ways smooth,
A ga-ekpoju ndagwurugwu ọbụla, ugwu ọbụla na ugwu nta ọbụla ka a ga-emekwa ka ọ dị ala. Ụzọ gbagọrọ agbagọ ka a ga-eme ka o guzozie nke ọma, meekwa ka ụzọ ọjọọ niile dị larịị.
6 that all flesh may see the salvation of God."
Mmadụ niile ga-ahụkwa nzọpụta Chineke.’”
7 Then said he to the multitudes, who flocked out to be immersed by him, Offspring of vipers, who has prompted you to flee from the impending vengeance?
Jọn sịrị igwe mmadụ ndị na-apụta ka o mee ha baptizim sị, “Unu ụmụ ajụala! Onye dọrọ unu aka na ntị sị unu gbanarị ọnụma nke na-abịa?
8 Produce, then, the proper fruits of reformation; and say not within yourselves, We have Abraham for a father; for I assure you, that of these stones God can raise children to Abraham.
Mịanụ mkpụrụ na-egosipụta nchegharị unu. Unu amalitekwala na-asị onwe unu, ‘Anyị nwere Ebraham dịka nna.’ Nʼihi na agwa m unu na Chineke pụrụ isite na nkume ndị a mepụtara Ebraham ụmụ.
9 And even now the ax lies at the root of the trees. Every tree, therefore, which produces not good fruit, is cut down, and thrown into the fire.
Ọ bụladị ugbu a, atụkwasịla anyụike na mgbọrọgwụ osisi, osisi ọbụla nke na-adịghị amị ezi mkpụrụ ka a ga-egbutu tụba ya nʼime ọkụ.”
10 Upon this, the multitude asked him, What must we do then?
Ma igwe mmadụ ahụ jụrụ ya sị, “Gịnị ka anyị kwesiri ime?”
11 He answered, Let him who has two coats, impart to him who has none; and let him who has victuals do the same.
Ọ zara ha sị, “Onye ọbụla nwere uwe abụọ, ya nye onye ọ na-adịghị nke o nwere otu. Onye nwere nri ya meekwa otu ahụ.”
12 There came also publicans to be immersed, who said, Rabbi, what must we do?
Ọ bụladị ndị ọna ụtụ bịakwara ka e mee ha baptizim. Ha sịrị ya, “Onye ozizi, gịnị ka anyị kwesiri ime?”
13 He answered, Exact no more than what is appointed you.
Ọ sịrị ha, “Unu anatala karịa otu unu kwesiri ịnata.”
14 Soldiers likewise asked him, And what must we do? He answered, Injure no man, either by violence, or false accusation, and be content with your allowance.
Ndị agha bịakwara jụọ ya sị, “Gịnịkwa ka anyị kwesiri ime?” Ọ sịrị ha, “Unu ejikwala ike apụnara ndị mmadụ ego ha; unu ebokwala ndị mmadụ ebubo ụgha, ka afọ ju unu nʼụgwọ a na-akwụ unu.”
15 As the people were in suspense concerning John, every man imagining within himself that he might be the Messiah,
Ndị mmadụ ji olileanya na-eche na-atulekwa nʼobi ha ma Jọn ọ bụ Kraịst ahụ.
16 John addressed them all, saying, I, indeed, immerse in water; but one mightier than I comes, whose shoe-latchet I am not worthy to untie; he will immerse you in the Holy Spirit and fire;
Ma Jọn zara sị ha, “Eji m mmiri na-eme unu baptizim, ma otu onye dị ike karịa m ga-abịa, onye m na-erughị ịtọpụ eriri akpụkpọụkwụ ya. Ọ ga-eji Mmụọ Nsọ na ọkụ mee unu baptizim.
17 his winnowing shovel is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his grain; he will gather the wheat into his granary, and consume the chaff in unquenchable fire.
Ihe ịfụcha ọka ya dị nʼaka ya, iji zachaa ebe ịzọcha ọka ya nke ọma, ka e kponye ezi mkpụrụ ọka wiiti nʼime ọba, ma kpoba igbugbo ọka nʼime ọkụ nke a na-apụghị imenyụ emenyụ.”
18 And with many other exhortations, he published the good tidings to the people.
O ji ọtụtụ okwu ọzọ dị iche iche dụọ ha ọdụ ma kwusaakwara ha oziọma.
19 But Herod, the tetrarch, having been reproved by him, on account of Herodias, his brother's wife, and for all the crimes which Herod had committed,
Ma Eze Herọd, onye ọ tara ụta maka Herodịas nwunye nwanne ya nwoke, nakwa maka ihe ọjọọ dị iche iche ndị o mere,
20 added this to the number, that he confined John in prison.
tụkwasịkwara ihe nʼelu ihe ndị a niile, site na ịtụnye Jọn nʼụlọ mkpọrọ.
21 Now when John immersed all the people, Jesus was likewise immersed; and while he prayed, the heaven was opened,
Mgbe e mechara ndị niile baptizim, ma mechakwa Jisọs baptizim, mgbe ọ na-ekpe ekpere, eluigwe meghere.
22 and the Holy Spirit descended upon him in a bodily form, like a dove; and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my Son, the beloved; in thee I delight.
Mmụọ Nsọ sikwa nʼelu rịdata dị ka nduru, bekwasị ya, mgbe ahụ, otu olu sitere nʼeluigwe daa sị, “Ị bụ Ọkpara m, onye m hụrụ nʼanya, ihe gị dị m ezi mma.”
