< John 19 >
1 Then Pilate caused him to be scourged.
ⲁ̅ⲧⲟⲧⲉ ⲡⲉⲓⲗⲁⲧⲟⲥ ⲁϥϫⲓ ⲛⲓⲥ ⲁϥⲙⲁⲥⲧⲓⲅⲟⲩ ⲙⲙⲟϥ
2 And the soldiers crowned him with a wreath of thorn, which they had platted; and having thrown a purple mantle about him,
ⲃ̅ⲁⲩⲱ ⲙⲙⲁⲧⲟⲓ ⲁⲩϣⲉⲛⲧ ⲟⲩⲕⲗⲟⲙ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲛ ⲛϣⲟⲛⲧⲉ ⲁⲩⲕⲁⲁϥ ⲉϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲉϫⲛ ⲧⲉϥⲁⲡⲉ ⲁⲩϯ ϩⲓⲱⲱϥ ⲛⲟⲩϣⲧⲏⲛ ⲛϫⲏϭⲉ
3 said, Hail! King of the Jews! and gave him blows on the face.
ⲅ̅ⲁⲩⲱ ⲛⲉⲩⲛⲏⲩ ϣⲁⲣⲟϥ ⲡⲉ ⲉⲩϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ϫⲉ ⲭⲁⲓⲣⲉ ⲡⲣⲣⲟ ⲛⲓⲟⲩⲇⲁⲓ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲛⲉⲩϯ ⲁⲁⲥ ⲛⲁϥ ⲡⲉ
4 Pilate went out again, and said to them, Lo, I bring him forth to you, that you may know that I find in him nothing culpable.
ⲇ̅ⲡⲉⲓⲗⲁⲧⲟⲥ ⲟⲛ ⲁϥⲉⲓ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϣⲁⲣⲟⲟⲩ ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ⲛⲁⲩ ϫⲉ ⲉⲓⲥ ϩⲏⲏⲧⲉ ⲁⲛⲛⲧϥ ⲛⲏⲧⲛ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϫⲉⲕⲁⲥ ⲉⲧⲉⲧⲛⲉⲉⲓⲙⲉ ϫⲉ ⲛϯϭⲛ ⲗⲁⲁⲩ ⲁⲛ ⲛⲁⲓⲧⲓⲁ ϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲛϩⲏⲧϥ
5 Jesus then went forth, wearing the crown of thorns, and the purple mantle, and Pilate said to them, Behold the man!
ⲉ̅ⲁϥⲉⲓ ⲇⲉ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲛϭⲓ ⲓⲥ ⲉⲣⲉⲡⲉⲕⲗⲟⲙ ⲛϣⲟⲛⲧⲉ ϩⲓϫⲛ ⲧⲉϥⲁⲡⲉ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲉⲣⲉⲧⲉϣⲧⲏⲛ ⲛϫⲏϭⲉ ϩⲓⲱⲱϥ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ⲛⲁⲩ ϫⲉ ⲉⲓⲥ ⲡⲣⲱⲙⲉ
6 When the chief priests and the officers saw him, they cried, saying, Crucify, crucify him! Pilate said to them, Take him yourselves, and crucify him; for my part, I find no fault in him.
ⲋ̅ⲛⲧⲉⲣⲟⲩⲛⲁⲩ ⲇⲉ ⲉⲣⲟϥ ⲛϭⲓ ⲛⲁⲣⲭⲓⲉⲣⲉⲩⲥ ⲙⲛ ⲛϩⲩⲡⲏⲣⲉⲧⲏⲥ ⲁⲩⲁϣⲕⲁⲕ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲉⲩϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ϫⲉ ⲥ⳨ⲟⲩ ⲙⲙⲟϥ ⲥ⳨ⲟⲩ ⲙⲙⲟϥ ⲡⲉϫⲉ ⲡⲉⲓⲗⲁⲧⲟⲥ ⲛⲁⲩ ϫⲉ ϫⲓⲧϥ ⲛⲧⲱⲧⲛ ⲛⲧⲉⲧⲛⲥ⳨ⲟⲩ ⲙⲙⲟϥ ⲁⲛⲟⲕ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲛϯϩⲏⲩ ⲁⲛ ⲉⲗⲁⲁⲩ ⲛⲗⲟⲓϭⲉ ⲉϩⲟⲩⲛ ⲉⲣⲟϥ
7 The Jews answered, We have a law, and by that law he ought to die, because he assumed the title of the Son of God.
ⲍ̅ⲁⲩⲟⲩⲱϣⲃ ⲛⲁϥ ⲛϭⲓ ⲛⲓⲟⲩⲇⲁⲓ ϫⲉ ⲁⲛⲟⲛ ⲟⲩⲛⲧⲁⲛ ⲟⲩⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲙⲙⲁⲩ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲕⲁⲧⲁ ⲡⲉⲛⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ϣϣⲉ ⲉⲣⲟϥ ⲉⲙⲟⲩ ϫⲉ ⲁϥⲁⲁϥ ⲛϣⲏⲣⲉ ⲛⲧⲉ ⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ
8 When Pilate heard this, he was the more afraid;
ⲏ̅ⲡⲉⲓⲗⲁⲧⲟⲥ ⲇⲉ ⲛⲧⲉⲣⲉϥⲥⲱⲧⲙ ⲉⲡⲉⲉⲓϣⲁϫⲉ ⲁϥⲣ ϩⲟⲧⲉ ⲛϩⲟⲩⲟ
9 and having returned to the pretorium, said to Jesus, Whence are you? But Jesus gave him no answer.
ⲑ̅ⲁⲩⲱ ⲁϥⲃⲱⲕ ⲟⲛ ⲉϩⲟⲩⲛ ⲉⲡⲉⲡⲣⲁⲓⲧⲱⲣⲓⲟⲛ ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ⲛⲓⲥ ϫⲉ ⲛⲧⲕ ⲟⲩⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲧⲱⲛ ⲛⲧⲟⲕ ⲓⲥ ⲇⲉ ⲙⲡϥⲟⲩⲱϣⲃ ⲛⲁϥ
10 Then Pilate said to him, Will you not speak to me? Do you not know that I have power to crucify you, and power to release you?
ⲓ̅ⲡⲉϫⲉ ⲡⲉⲓⲗⲁⲧⲟⲥ ϭⲉ ⲛⲁϥ ϫⲉ ⲛⲅⲛⲁϣⲁϫⲉ ⲛⲙⲙⲁⲓ ⲁⲛ ⲛⲅⲥⲟⲟⲩⲛ ⲁⲛ ϫⲉ ⲟⲩⲛϯ ⲧⲉⲝⲟⲩⲥⲓⲁ ⲛⲥ⳨ⲟⲩ ⲙⲙⲟⲕ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲟⲩⲛϯ ⲧⲉⲝⲟⲩⲥⲓⲁ ⲛⲕⲁⲁⲕ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ
11 Jesus replied, You could have no power over me, unless it were given you from above; wherefore, he who delivered me to you, has greater sin.
ⲓ̅ⲁ̅ⲁϥⲟⲩⲱϣⲃ ⲛⲁϥ ⲛϭⲓ ⲓⲥ ϫⲉ ⲛⲉⲙⲛⲧⲕ ⲗⲁⲁⲩ ⲛⲉⲝⲟⲩⲥⲓⲁ ⲉϩⲟⲩⲛ ⲉⲣⲟⲉⲓ ⲉⲓⲙⲏⲧⲓ ϫⲉ ⲁⲩⲧⲁⲁⲥ ⲛⲁⲕ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲛ ⲧⲡⲉ ⲉⲧⲃⲉ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲡⲉⲛⲧⲁϥⲧⲁⲁⲧ ⲉⲧⲟⲟⲧⲕ ⲟⲩⲛⲧϥ ⲟⲩⲛⲟϭ ⲛⲛⲟⲃⲉ ⲙⲙⲁⲩ
12 From that time Pilate sought to release him; but the Jews exclaimed, If you release this man, you are not Cesar's friend. Whoever calls himself king, opposes Cesar.
ⲓ̅ⲃ̅ⲉⲧⲃⲉ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲛⲉⲣⲉⲡⲉⲓⲗⲁⲧⲟⲥ ϣⲓⲛⲉ ⲛⲥⲁ ⲕⲁⲁϥ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲛⲓⲟⲩⲇⲁⲓ ⲇⲉ ⲛⲉⲩⲁϣⲕⲁⲕ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲉⲩϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ϫⲉ ⲉⲕϣⲁⲛⲕⲁ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲛⲧⲕ ⲡⲉ ϣⲃⲏⲣ ⲁⲛ ⲙⲡⲣⲣⲟ ⲟⲩⲟⲛ ⲛⲓⲙ ⲉϯⲣⲉ ⲙⲙⲟϥ ⲛⲣⲣⲟ ⲉϥϯ ⲟⲩⲃⲉ ⲡⲣⲣⲟ
13 Pilate, on hearing these words, ordered Jesus to be brought forth, and sat down on the tribunal, in a place named The Pavement; in Hebrew, Gabbatha.
ⲓ̅ⲅ̅ⲡⲉⲓⲗⲁⲧⲟⲥ ⲇⲉ ⲛⲧⲉⲣⲉϥⲥⲱⲧⲙ ⲉⲛⲉⲉⲓϣⲁϫⲉ ⲁϥⲉⲓⲛⲉ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲛⲓⲥ ⲁϥⲑⲙⲥⲟϥ ⲉⲡⲃⲏⲙⲁ ⲟⲩⲙⲁ ⲉⲩⲙⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲉⲣⲟϥ ϫⲉ ⲗⲓⲑⲟⲥⲧⲣⲱⲧⲟⲛ ⲙⲙⲛⲧϩⲉⲃⲣⲁⲓⲟⲥ ⲇⲉ ϫⲉ ⲅⲁⲃⲃⲁⲑⲁ
14 (Now it was the preparation of the Paschal Sabbath, about the sixth hour.) And he said to the Jews, Behold your King.
ⲓ̅ⲇ̅ⲛⲉⲡⲛⲁⲩ ⲇⲉ ⲛϫⲡ ⲥⲟⲟ ⲡⲉ ⲛⲧⲡⲁⲣⲁⲥⲕⲉⲩⲏ ⲙⲡⲡⲁⲥⲭⲁ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ⲛⲓⲟⲩⲇⲁⲓ ϫⲉ ⲉⲓⲥ ⲡⲉⲧⲛⲣⲣⲟ
15 But they cried out, Away, away with him; crucify him. Pilate said to them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no King but Cesar.
ⲓ̅ⲉ̅ⲛⲧⲟⲟⲩ ⲇⲉ ⲛⲉⲩⲁϣⲕⲁⲕ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϫⲉ ϥⲓⲧϥ ϥⲓⲧϥ ⲥ⳨ⲟⲩ ⲙⲙⲟϥ ⲡⲉϫⲉ ⲡⲉⲓⲗⲁⲧⲟⲥ ⲛⲁⲩ ϫⲉ ⲧⲁⲥ⳨ⲟⲩ ⲙⲡⲉⲧⲛⲣⲣⲟ ⲁⲩⲟⲩⲱϣⲃ ⲛϭⲓ ⲛⲁⲣⲭⲓⲉⲣⲉⲩⲥ ϫⲉ ⲙⲛⲧⲛ ⲕⲉⲣⲣⲟ ⲙⲙⲁⲩ ⲉⲓⲙⲏⲧⲓ ⲡⲣⲣⲟ ⲕⲁⲓⲥⲁⲣ
16 He delivered him, therefore, to be crucified.
ⲓ̅ⲋ̅ⲧⲟⲧⲉ ϭⲉ ⲁϥⲧⲁⲁϥ ⲉⲧⲟⲟⲧⲟⲩ ⲉⲧⲣⲉⲩⲥ⳨ⲟⲩ ⲙⲙⲟϥ ⲛⲧⲟⲟⲩ ⲇⲉ ⲛⲧⲉⲣⲟⲩϫⲓ ⲛⲓⲥ ⲁⲩⲛⲧϥ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ
17 Then they took Jesus, and led him away. And he, carrying his cross, went out to a place called The Place of Skulls, which is, in Hebrew, Golgotha;
ⲓ̅ⲍ̅ⲁⲩⲱ ⲛⲉϥϥⲓ ⲙⲡⲉϥⲥ⳨ⲟⲥ ⲁϥⲉⲓ ⲇⲉ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲉⲩⲙⲁ ⲉⲩⲙⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲉⲣⲟϥ ϫⲉ ⲡⲉⲕⲣⲁⲛⲓⲟⲛ ⲙⲙⲛⲧϩⲉⲃⲣⲁⲓⲟⲥ ⲇⲉ ϫⲉ ⲅⲟⲗⲅⲟⲑ
18 where they crucified him, and two others with him; one on each side, and Jesus in the middle.
ⲓ̅ⲏ̅ⲡⲙⲁ ⲉⲛⲧⲁⲩⲥ⳨ⲟⲩ ⲙⲙⲟϥ ⲛϩⲏⲧϥ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲕⲉⲥⲛⲁⲩ ⲛⲙⲙⲁϥ ⲟⲩⲁ ⲛⲥⲁ ⲡⲓⲥⲁ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲟⲩⲁ ⲛⲥⲁ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲓⲥ ⲇⲉ ⲛⲧⲉⲩⲙⲏⲧⲉ
19 Pilate also wrote a title, and put it on the cross. The words were, JESUS, THE NAZARENE, THE KING OF THE JEWS.
ⲓ̅ⲑ̅ⲁⲡⲉⲓⲗⲁⲧⲟⲥ ⲇⲉ ⲥϩⲁⲓ ⲛⲟⲩⲧⲓⲧⲗⲟⲥ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲁϥⲧⲟϭϥ ⲉⲡⲉⲥ⳨ⲟⲥ ⲛⲉϥ ⲥⲏϩ ⲇⲉ ⲉⲣⲟϥ ⲡⲉ ϫⲉ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲡⲉ ⲓⲥ ⲡⲛⲁⲍⲱⲣⲁⲓⲟⲥ ⲡⲣⲣⲟ ⲛⲓⲟⲩⲇⲁⲓ
20 And many of the Jews read this title, (for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh the city, ) and it was written in Hebrew, Greek, and Latin:
ⲕ̅ⲡⲉⲓⲧⲓⲧⲗⲟⲥ ⲇⲉ ⲁϩⲁϩ ⲛⲓⲟⲩⲇⲁⲓ ⲟϣϥ ϫⲉ ⲛⲉϥϩⲏⲛ ⲉϩⲟⲩⲛ ⲉⲧⲡⲟⲗⲓⲥ ⲛϭⲓ ⲡⲙⲁ ⲉⲛⲧⲁⲩⲥ⳨ⲟⲩ ⲛⲓⲥ ⲛϩⲏⲧϥ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲛⲉϥⲥⲏϩ ⲙⲉⲛ ⲙⲙⲛⲧϩⲉⲃⲣⲁⲓⲟⲥ ⲙⲙⲛⲧϩⲣⲱⲙⲁⲓⲟⲥ ⲙⲙⲛⲧⲟⲩⲉⲓⲉⲛⲓⲛ
21 then the chief priests said to Pilate, Write not the King of the Jews; but, Who calls himself King of the Jews.
ⲕ̅ⲁ̅ⲛⲉⲩϫⲱ ϭⲉ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ⲙⲡⲉⲓⲗⲁⲧⲟⲥ ⲛϭⲓ ⲛⲁⲣⲭⲓⲉⲣⲉⲩⲥ ⲛⲓⲟⲩⲇⲁⲓ ϫⲉ ⲙⲡⲣⲥⲁϩϥ ϫⲉ ⲡⲣⲣⲟ ⲛⲓⲟⲩⲇⲁⲓ ⲁⲗⲗⲁ ϫⲉ ⲡⲏⲏ ⲡⲉ ⲛⲧⲁϥϫⲟⲟⲥ ϫⲉ ⲁⲛⲟⲕ ⲡⲉ ⲡⲣⲣⲟ ⲛⲓⲟⲩⲇⲁⲓ
22 Pilate answered, What I have written I have written.
ⲕ̅ⲃ̅ⲁϥⲟⲩⲱϣⲃ ⲛϭⲓ ⲡⲉⲓⲗⲁⲧⲟⲥ ϫⲉ ⲡⲉⲛⲧⲁⲓⲥⲁⲓϩϥ ⲁⲓⲥⲁⲓϩϥ
23 When the soldiers had nailed Jesus to the cross, they took his mantle and divided it into four parts, one to every soldier: they also took the coat, which was seamless, woven from the top throughout;
ⲕ̅ⲅ̅ⲙⲙⲁⲧⲟⲓ ⲇⲉ ⲛⲧⲉⲣⲟⲩⲥ⳨ⲟⲩ ⲙⲙⲟϥ ⲁⲩϫⲓ ⲡⲉϥϩⲟⲓⲧⲉ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲁⲩⲁⲁϥ ⲛϥⲧⲟⲟⲩ ⲛⲟⲩⲱⲛ ⲟⲩⲱⲛ ⲙⲡⲟⲩⲁ ⲡⲟⲩⲁ ⲛⲙⲙⲁⲧⲟⲓ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲧⲕⲉϣⲧⲏⲛ ⲧⲉϣⲧⲏⲛ ⲇⲉ ⲛⲉⲥⲧⲟⲣⲡ ⲁⲛ ⲉϫⲱⲥ ⲡⲉ ⲁⲗⲗⲁ ⲛⲉⲩⲥⲁϩ ϥⲧⲟⲟⲩ ⲧⲉ
24 and said, among themselves, Let us not tear it, but determine by lot whose it shall be; by this verifying the scripture, which says, "They shared my mantle among them, and cast lots for my vesture."
ⲕ̅ⲇ̅ⲡⲉϫⲁⲩ ⲇⲉ ⲛⲛⲉⲩⲉⲣⲏⲩ ϫⲉ ⲙⲡⲣⲧⲣⲉⲛⲡⲁϩⲥ ⲁⲗⲗⲁ ⲙⲁⲣⲛⲉⲛⲓⲙ ⲉⲣⲟⲥ ϫⲉ ⲉⲥⲛⲁⲣ ⲧⲁ ⲛⲓⲙ ϫⲉⲕⲁⲥ ⲉⲣⲉⲧⲉⲅⲣⲁⲫⲏ ϫⲱⲕ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϫⲉ ⲁⲩⲡⲉϣ ⲛⲁϩⲟⲓⲧⲉ ⲉϫⲱⲟⲩ ⲁⲩⲛⲉϫ ⲕⲗⲏⲣⲟⲥ ⲉϫⲛ ⲧⲁϩⲃⲥⲱ ⲙⲙⲁⲧⲟⲓ ⲙⲉⲛ ⲁⲩⲣ ⲛⲁⲓ
25 Thus, therefore, acted the soldiers. Now, there stood near the cross of Jesus, his mother, and her sister Mary, the wife of Cleopas, and Mary the Magdalene.
ⲕ̅ⲉ̅ⲛⲉⲩⲁϩⲉ ⲇⲉ ⲉⲣⲁⲧⲟⲩ ϩⲁⲧⲙ ⲡⲉⲥ⳨ⲟⲥ ⲛⲓⲥ ⲛϭⲓ ⲧⲉϥⲙⲁⲁⲩ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲧⲥⲱⲛⲉ ⲛⲧⲉϥⲙⲁⲁⲩ ⲙⲁⲣⲓⲁ ⲧϣⲉⲉⲣⲉ ⲛⲕⲗⲱⲡⲁ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲙⲁⲣⲓⲁ ⲧⲙⲁⲅⲇⲁⲗⲏⲛⲏ
26 Then Jesus, observing his mother, and the disciple whom he loved, standing by, said to his mother, Woman, behold your son.
ⲕ̅ⲋ̅ⲓⲥ ⲇⲉ ⲛⲧⲉⲣⲉϥⲛⲁⲩ ⲉⲧⲉϥⲙⲁⲁⲩ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲡⲙⲁⲑⲏⲧⲏⲥ ⲉϥⲁϩⲉⲣⲁⲧϥ ⲡⲉⲧⲉ ⲛⲉϥⲙⲉ ⲙⲙⲟϥ ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ⲛⲧⲉϥⲙⲁⲁⲩ ϫⲉ ⲧⲉⲥϩⲓⲙⲉ ⲉⲓⲥ ⲡⲟⲩϣⲏⲣⲉ
27 Then he said to the disciple, Behold your mother. And from that hour, the disciple took her to his own house.
ⲕ̅ⲍ̅ⲉⲓⲧⲁ ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ⲙⲡⲙⲁⲑⲏⲧⲏⲥ ϫⲉ ⲉⲓⲥ ⲧⲉⲕⲙⲁⲁⲩ ϫⲓⲛ ⲡⲉϩⲟⲟⲩ ⲉⲧⲙⲙⲁⲩ ⲁⲡⲙⲁⲑⲏⲧⲏⲥ ϫⲓⲧⲥ ⲉϩⲟⲩⲛ ⲉⲡⲉϥⲏⲉⲓ
28 After this, Jesus, (knowing that all was now accomplished, ) that the scripture might be fulfilled, said, I thirst.
ⲕ̅ⲏ̅ⲙⲛⲛⲥⲁ ⲛⲁⲓ ⲉϥⲥⲟⲟⲩⲛ ⲛϭⲓ ⲓⲥ ϫⲉ ⲁϩⲱⲃ ⲛⲓⲙ ϫⲱⲕ ϫⲉ ⲉⲣⲉⲧⲉⲅⲣⲁⲫⲏ ϫⲱⲕ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ϫⲉ ϯⲟⲃⲉ
29 And there was a vessel there full of vinegar, they filled a sponge with vinegar, and, having fastened it to a twig of hyssop, held it to his mouth.
ⲕ̅ⲑ̅ⲛⲉⲩⲛ ⲟⲩϩⲛⲁⲁⲩ ⲇⲉ ⲕⲏ ⲉϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲉϥⲙⲉϩ ⲛϩⲙϫ ⲟⲩⲥⲡⲟⲅⲅⲟⲥ ⲇⲉ ⲉϥⲙⲉϩ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲛϩⲙϫ ⲁⲩⲕⲁⲁϥ ⲉϫⲛ ⲟⲩϩⲩⲥⲥⲱⲡⲟⲥ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲁⲩⲥⲟⲟⲩⲧⲛ ⲙⲙⲟϥ ⲉⲧⲉϥⲧⲁⲡⲣⲟ
30 When Jesus had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished; and bowing his head, yielded up his spirit.
ⲗ̅ⲛⲧⲉⲣⲉϥϫⲓ ⲇⲉ ⲙⲡϩⲙϫ ⲛϭⲓ ⲓⲥ ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ϫⲉ ⲁⲩϫⲱⲕ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲁϥⲣⲓⲕⲉ ⲛⲧⲉϥⲁⲡⲉ ⲁϥϯ ⲙⲡⲉⲡⲛⲁ
31 The Jews, therefore, lest the bodies should remain on the cross on the Sabbath, for it was the preparation, (and that Sabbath was a great day, ) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and the bodies might be removed.
ⲗ̅ⲁ̅ⲛⲓⲟⲩⲇⲁⲓ ⲇⲉ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϫⲉ ⲛⲉ ⲧⲡⲁⲣⲁⲥⲕⲉⲩⲏ ⲧⲉ ϫⲉ ⲛⲛⲉⲛⲥⲱⲙⲁ ϭⲱ ϩⲓ ⲡⲉ ⲥ⳨ⲟⲥ ⲙⲡⲥⲁⲃⲃⲁⲧⲟⲛ ⲛⲉⲟⲩⲛⲟϭ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲡⲉ ⲡⲉϩⲟⲟⲩ ⲙⲡⲥⲁⲃⲃⲁⲧⲟⲛ ⲉⲧⲙⲙⲁⲩ ⲁⲩⲥⲉⲡⲥ ⲡⲉⲓⲗⲁⲧⲟⲥ ϫⲉⲕⲁⲥ ⲉϥⲉⲟⲩⲱϭⲡ ⲛⲛⲉⲩⲟⲩⲉⲣⲏⲧⲉ ⲛⲥⲉϥⲓⲧⲟⲩ ⲙⲙⲁⲩ
32 Accordingly, the soldiers came, and broke the legs of the first and of the other, who were crucified with him.
ⲗ̅ⲃ̅ⲁⲩⲉⲓ ⲇⲉ ⲛϭⲓ ⲙⲙⲁⲧⲟⲓ ⲁⲩⲟⲩⲉϭⲡ ⲛⲟⲩⲉⲣⲏⲧⲉ ⲙⲡϣⲟⲣⲡ ⲙⲛ ⲡⲕⲉⲟⲩⲁ ⲉⲛⲧⲁⲩ ⲥ⳨ⲟⲩ ⲙⲙⲟϥ ⲛⲙⲙⲁϥ
33 But when they came to Jesus, and found that he was already dead, they did not break his legs.
ⲗ̅ⲅ̅ⲛⲧⲉⲣⲟⲩⲉⲓ ⲇⲉ ⲉϫⲛ ⲓⲥ ⲁⲩⲛⲁⲩ ⲉⲣⲟϥ ⲉⲁϥⲟⲩⲱ ⲉϥⲙⲟⲩ ⲙⲡⲟⲩⲟⲩⲉϭⲡ ⲛⲉϥⲟⲩⲉⲣⲏⲧⲉ
34 But one of the soldiers with a spear, pierced his side, whence blood and water immediately issued.
ⲗ̅ⲇ̅ⲁⲗⲗⲁ ⲁⲟⲩⲁ ⲛⲙⲙⲁⲧⲟⲓ ⲁϥⲕⲱⲛⲥ ⲙⲡⲉϥⲥⲡⲓⲣ ⲛⲟⲩⲗⲟⲅⲭⲏ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲛⲧⲉⲩⲛⲟⲩ ⲁϥⲉⲓ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲛϭⲓ ⲟⲩⲥⲛⲟϥ ⲙⲛ ⲟⲩⲙⲟⲟⲩ
35 He was an eye-witness, who attests this, and his testimony deserves credit: nay, he is conscious that he speaks truth, that you may believe.
ⲗ̅ⲉ̅ⲁⲩⲱ ⲡⲉⲛⲧⲁϥⲛⲁⲩ ⲁϥⲣ ⲙⲛⲧⲣⲉ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲟⲩⲙⲉ ⲧⲉ ⲧⲉϥⲙⲛⲧⲙⲛⲧⲣⲉ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲡⲉⲧⲙⲙⲁⲩ ⲥⲟⲟⲩⲛ ϫⲉ ⲉϥϫⲉ ⲙⲉ ϫⲉⲕⲁⲥ ϩⲱⲧⲧⲏⲩⲧⲛ ⲉⲧⲉⲧⲛⲉⲡⲓⲥⲧⲉⲩⲉ
36 For these things happened that the scripture might be verified, "None of his bones shall be broken."
ⲗ̅ⲋ̅ⲛⲧⲁ ⲛⲁⲓ ⲅⲁⲣ ϣⲱⲡⲉ ϫⲉⲕⲁⲥ ⲉⲣⲉⲧⲉⲅⲣⲁⲫⲏ ϫⲱⲕ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϫⲉ ⲛⲛⲉⲩⲕⲁⲥ ⲛⲟⲩⲱⲧ ⲟⲩⲱϣϥ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲛϩⲏⲧϥ
37 Again, the scripture elsewhere says, "They shall look on him whom they have pierced."
ⲗ̅ⲍ̅ⲁⲩⲱ ⲟⲛ ⲧⲉⲅⲣⲁⲫⲏ ϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ϫⲉ ⲥⲉⲛⲁⲛⲁⲩ ⲉⲡⲉⲛⲧⲁⲩⲕⲟⲛⲥϥ
38 After this, Joseph, the Arimathean, who was a disciple of Jesus, but a concealed disciple for fear of the Jews, asked permission of Pilate to take away the body of Jesus.
ⲗ̅ⲏ̅ⲙⲛⲛⲥⲁ ⲛⲁⲓ ⲁϥⲥⲉⲡⲥ ⲡⲉⲓⲗⲁⲧⲟⲥ ⲛϭⲓ ⲓⲱⲥⲏⲫ ⲡⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲛ ⲁⲣⲓⲙⲁⲑⲁⲓⲁ ⲉⲩⲙⲁⲑⲏⲧⲏⲥ ⲡⲉ ⲛⲧⲉ ⲓⲥ ⲉϥϩⲏⲡ ⲇⲉ ⲉⲧⲃⲉ ⲑⲟⲧⲉ ⲛⲓⲟⲩⲇⲁⲓ ϫⲉⲕⲁⲥ ⲉϥⲉϥⲓ ⲡⲥⲱⲙⲁ ⲛⲓⲥ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲁϥⲕⲁⲁϥ ⲛϭⲓ ⲡⲉⲓⲗⲁⲧⲟⲥ ⲁⲩⲉⲓ ⲇⲉ ⲁⲩϥⲓ ⲡⲉϥⲥⲱⲙⲁ
39 Nicodemus also, who had formerly repaired to Jesus by night, came, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, weighing about a hundred pounds.
ⲗ̅ⲑ̅ⲁϥⲉⲓ ⲇⲉ ϩⲱⲱϥ ⲟⲛ ⲛϭⲓ ⲛⲓⲕⲟⲇⲏⲙⲟⲥ ⲡⲉⲛⲧⲁϥⲉⲓ ϣⲁ ⲓⲥ ⲛϣⲟⲣⲡ ⲛⲧⲉⲩϣⲏ ⲁϥⲉⲓⲛⲉ ⲛⲟⲩⲙⲓⲅⲙⲁ ⲛϣⲁⲗ ϩⲓ ⲁⲗⲗⲱⲓ ⲉⲩⲛⲁⲣ ϣⲉ ⲛⲗⲓⲧⲣⲁ
40 These men took the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen rollers, with the spices, which is the Jewish manner of embalming.
ⲙ̅ⲁⲩϫⲓ ⲇⲉ ⲙⲡⲥⲱⲙⲁ ⲛⲓⲥ ⲁⲩⲙⲟⲣϥ ⲛϩⲉⲛϩⲃⲱⲱⲥ ⲙⲛ ⲛϩⲏⲛⲉ ⲕⲁⲧⲁ ⲡⲥⲱⲛⲧ ⲛⲓⲟⲩⲇⲁⲓ ⲉⲕⲟⲟⲥⲟⲩ
41 Now, in the place where he was crucified, there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, wherein no one had ever yet been laid.
ⲙ̅ⲁ̅ⲛⲉⲩⲛ ⲟⲩϣⲛⲏ ⲇⲉ ϩⲙ ⲡⲙⲁ ⲉⲛⲧⲁⲩⲥ⳨ⲟⲩ ⲙⲙⲟϥ ⲛϩⲏⲧϥ ⲉⲣⲉⲟⲩⲧⲁⲫⲟⲥ ⲛⲃⲣⲣⲉ ϩⲛ ⲧⲉϣⲛⲏ ⲉⲙⲡⲁⲧⲟⲩⲕⲁ ⲗⲁⲁⲩ ⲛϩⲟⲩⲛ ⲛϩⲏⲧϥ
42 There they deposited Jesus, on account of the Jewish preparation, the tomb being near.
