Acts 26
1 Then Agrippa said to Paul, It is granted to you to speak for yourself. Then Paul, stretching forth his hand, made his defense.
তখন আগ্রিপ্প পৌলকে বললেন, “তোমার স্বপক্ষে বক্তব্য পেশ করার জন্য তোমাকে অনুমতি দেওয়া হচ্ছে।” তখন পৌল তাঁর হাত প্রসারিত করে তাঁর আত্মপক্ষ সমর্থন শুরু করলেন:
2 I esteem myself happy, King Agrippa, that I am this day to make my defense before you, concerning all those things of which I am accused by the Jews;
“মহারাজ আগ্রিপ্প, ইহুদিদের সমস্ত অভিযোগের বিরুদ্ধে আত্মপক্ষ সমর্থন করার উদ্দেশ্যে, আজ আপনার সামনে দাঁড়াতে পেরে আমি নিজেকে সৌভাগ্যবান মনে করছি।
3 especially as you are acquainted with all the customs and questions among the Jews: wherefore, I entreat you, that you will hear me with patience.
আর বিশেষ করে এজন্য যে, আপনি ইহুদিদের সমস্ত রীতিনীতি ও মতবিরোধগুলির সঙ্গে বিশেষভাবে পরিচিত। সেই কারণে, ধৈর্যের সঙ্গে আমার বক্তব্য শোনার জন্য আমি আপনাকে অনুরোধ করছি।
4 The manner of my life, from my youth, which, from the beginning, was spent among my own nation, in Jerusalem, is known to all the Jews;
“শৈশবকাল থেকে, আমার জীবনের প্রথমদিকে, আমার নিজের নগরে ও জেরুশালেমে আমি কীভাবে জীবনযাপন করেছি ইহুদিরা তা সকলেই জানে।
5 who knew me from the first, (if they would testify, ) that, according to the strictest sect of our religion, I lived a Pharisee.
দীর্ঘকাল যাবৎ তারা আমাকে জানে ও ইচ্ছা করলে সাক্ষ্যও দিতে পারে যে, আমাদের ধর্মের মধ্যে পরম নিষ্ঠাবান সম্প্রদায়, একজন ফরিশীরূপে আমি জীবনযাপন করতাম।
6 And now I stand in judgment for the hope of that promise, which was made by God to our fathers:
আর এখন, ঈশ্বর আমাদের পিতৃপুরুষদের কাছে যে প্রতিশ্রুতি দান করেছিলেন, তারই উপর আমার প্রত্যাশার জন্য, আজ আমি বিচারের সম্মুখীন হয়েছি।
7 to which promise, our twelve tribes, worshiping continually, night and day, hope to attain: concerning which hope, King Agrippa, I am accused by the Jews.
আমাদের বারো গোষ্ঠী সেই প্রতিশ্রুতি পূর্ণ হওয়ার প্রত্যাশায় আগ্রহভরে দিনরাত ঈশ্বরের সেবা করে আসছে। মহারাজ, এই প্রত্যাশার জন্যই ইহুদিরা আমাকে অভিযুক্ত করেছে।
8 Why should it be judged an incredible thing, by you, that God should raise the dead?
ঈশ্বর মৃতজনকে উত্থাপিত করেন, কেন একথা বিশ্বাস করা আপনাদের কাছে অবিশ্বাস্য বলে মনে হয়?
9 I, indeed, thought with myself, that I ought to do many things contrary to the name of Jesus, the Nazarene.
“আমারও দৃঢ় বিশ্বাস ছিল এই যে, নাসরতের যীশুর নামের প্রতিরোধে যা কিছু করা সম্ভবপর, সে সবকিছু করাই আমার কর্তব্য।
10 Which, accordingly, I did in Jerusalem; and I shut up many of the saints in prison, having received authority from the chief priests. And when some of them were killed, I gave my vote against them:
আর জেরুশালেমে ঠিক সেই কাজই আমি করেছিলাম। প্রধান যাজকদের দেওয়া অধিকারবলে আমি অনেক পবিত্রগণকে কারাগারে বন্দি করেছি। যখন তাদের মৃত্যুদণ্ড দেওয়া হত, তখন আমি তাদের বিরুদ্ধে আমার মত দিয়েছি।
11 and frequently punishing them in all the synagogues, I compelled them to blaspheme: and being exceedingly mad against them, I persecuted them even to foreign cities.
অনেক সময় আমি এক সমাজভবন থেকে অন্য সমাজভবনে তাদের শাস্তি দেওয়ার জন্য গিয়েছি, তাদের উপরে বলপ্রয়োগ করেছি, যেন তারা ঈশ্বরনিন্দা করে। তাদের বিরুদ্ধে ক্রোধে উন্মত্ত হয়ে আমি তাদের অত্যাচার করার জন্য পরজাতীয় নগরগুলি পর্যন্তও গিয়েছিলাম।
12 With this view, I was going to Damascus, with authority and commission from the chief priests;
“এরকমই এক যাত্রাকালে, আমি প্রধান যাজকদের কাছ থেকে অধিকার ও অনুমতিপত্র নিয়ে দামাস্কাসে যাচ্ছিলাম।
13 at mid-day, on the road, King Agrippa, I saw a light from heaven, exceeding the splendor of the sun, shining about me, and those who traveled with me.
মহারাজ, প্রায় দুপুরবেলায়, যখন আমি মাঝপথে ছিলাম, আকাশ থেকে এক আলো দেখলাম। তা ছিল সূর্য থেকেও উজ্জ্বল, আমার ও আমার সঙ্গীদের চারপাশে তা উজ্জ্বল হয়ে উঠেছিল।
14 And when we were all fallen down to the earth, I heard a voice speaking to me, and saying, in the Hebrew language, Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.
আমরা সবাই মাটিতে পড়ে গেলাম। আমি একটি কণ্ঠস্বর শুনলাম, যা হিব্রু ভাষায় আমাকে বলছিল, ‘শৌল, শৌল, তুমি কেন আমাকে নির্যাতন করছ? কাঁটার মুখে লাথি মারা তোমার পক্ষে কঠিন।’
15 And I said, Who art thou, Lord? And he said, I am Jesus, whom you persecute.
“তখন আমি জিজ্ঞাসা করলাম, ‘প্রভু, আপনি কে?’ “‘আমি যীশু, যাঁকে তুমি নির্যাতন করছ,’ প্রভু উত্তর দিলেন।
16 But arise, and stand upon your feet, for to this purpose I have appeared to you, to ordain you a minister and a witness, both of the things which you have seen, and of those which I will hereafter show you:
‘এখন ওঠো ও তোমার পায়ে ভর দিয়ে দাঁড়াও। আমি তোমাকে আমার সেবক নিযুক্ত করার জন্য তোমাকে দর্শন দিয়েছি। আমার বিষয়ে তুমি যা দেখেছ ও আমি তোমাকে যা দেখাব, তুমি তার সাক্ষী হবে।
17 delivering you from the people, and from the Gentiles; to whom I now send you--
আমি তোমার স্বজাতি ও অইহুদিদের হাত থেকে তোমাকে উদ্ধার করব। আমি তোমাকে তাদের কাছে পাঠাচ্ছি,
18 to open their eyes, to turn them from darkness to light, and from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God; that they may receive forgiveness of sons, and an inheritance amongst the sanctified, through faith in me.
তুমি তাদের চোখ খুলে দেবে, অন্ধকার থেকে তাদের আলোয় ফিরিয়ে আনবে, শয়তানের পরাক্রম থেকে নিয়ে আসবে ঈশ্বরের কাছে, যেন তারা সব পাপের ক্ষমা লাভ করে এবং আমার উপরে বিশ্বাসের মাধ্যমে যারা পবিত্র হয়েছে, তাদের মধ্যে স্থান লাভ করতে পারে।’
19 From that time, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision:
“সেই কারণে, মহারাজ আগ্রিপ্প, আমি স্বর্গীয় এই দর্শনের অবাধ্য হইনি।
20 but declared, first to them at Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and through all the country of Judea; and then to the Gentiles, that they should reform, and return to God, performing deeds worthy of reformation.
প্রথমে দামাস্কাসবাসীদের কাছে, পরে জেরুশালেম ও সমগ্র যিহূদিয়ার অধিবাসীদের কাছে এবং অইহুদিদের কাছেও আমি প্রচার করলাম, যেন তারা মন পরিবর্তন করে ঈশ্বরের কাছে ফিরে আসে ও তাদের কাজ দিয়ে তাদের অনুতাপের প্রমাণ দেয়।
21 On account of these things, the Jews seizing me in the temple, attempted to have killed me with their own hands.
এই কারণেই ইহুদিরা আমাকে মন্দির চত্বরে পাকড়াও করে ও আমাকে হত্যা করার চেষ্টা করে।
22 Having, therefore, obtained help from God, I continue, till this day, testifying both to small and great, saying nothing but what the prophets and Moses have declared would be;
কিন্তু আজ, এই দিন পর্যন্ত, আমি ঈশ্বরের সহায়তা লাভ করে এসেছি। সেই কারণেই আজ আমি এখানে দাঁড়িয়ে ছোটো-বড়ো নির্বিশেষে সব মানুষের কাছে সাক্ষ্য দিচ্ছি। ভাববাদীরা ও মোশি যা ঘটবার কথা বলে গেছেন, তার বাইরে আমি কোনো কথাই বলছি না—
23 that the Messiah would be a sufferer--would be first of a resurrection from the dead--would give light to the people, and to the Gentiles.
মশীহকে কষ্টভোগ করতে হবে এবং মৃতলোক থেকে সর্বপ্রথম উত্থাপিত বলে, তিনি তাঁর স্বজাতি ও অইহুদিদেরও কাছে আলোর বার্তা ঘোষণা করবেন।”
24 And as he was thus making his defense, Festus said, with a loud voice, Paul, you are distracted: much learning drives you to madness.
এই সময়ে ফীষ্ট পৌলের আত্মপক্ষ সমর্থনে বাধা দিয়ে বললেন, “পৌল, তোমার বুদ্ধিভ্রম হয়েছে। তোমার অত্যধিক জ্ঞান তোমাকে পাগল করে তুলেছে।”
25 But he replied, I am not mad, most noble Festus, but utter the words of truth and soberness.
পৌল উত্তর দিলেন, “মহামান্য ফীষ্ট, আমি পাগল নই। আমি যা বলছি, তা সত্য ও যুক্তিগ্রাহ্য।
26 For the king knows of these things; to whom, also, I speak with freedom: for I am persuaded none of these things are hid from him, for this was not done in a corner.
রাজা এসব বিষয়ে পরিচিত ও তাঁর কাছে আমি স্বচ্ছন্দে কথা বলতে পারি। আমি দৃঢ়রূপে বিশ্বাস করি, এর কোনো কিছুই তাঁর দৃষ্টি এড়ায়নি, কারণ তা কোণে করা হয়নি।
27 King Agrippa! do you believe the prophets? I know that you believe.
মহারাজ আগ্রিপ্প, আপনি কি ভাববাদীদের বিশ্বাস করেন? আমি জানি, আপনি করেন।”
28 Then Agrippa said to Paul, You almost persuade me to be a Christian.
আগ্রিপ্প তখন পৌলকে বললেন, “তুমি কি মনে করো যে, এই অল্প সময়ের মধ্যেই তুমি আমাকে খ্রীষ্টিয়ান করে তুলবে?”
29 And Paul said, I would to God that, not only you, but also all that hear me this day, were both almost and altogether such as I am, except these chains.
পৌল উত্তর দিলেন, “অল্প সময়ে হোক, বা বেশি—আমি ঈশ্বরের কাছে প্রার্থনা করি, শুধুমাত্র আপনি নন, কিন্তু যারা আজ আমার কথা শুনছেন, কেবলমাত্র এই শিকলটুকু ছাড়া তারা সবাই যেন আমারই মতো হতে পারেন।”
30 And as he said this, the king arose, and the governor, and Bernice, and those who sat with them.
রাজা উঠে দাঁড়ালেন ও তাঁর সঙ্গে প্রদেশপাল, বার্নিস ও তাদের সঙ্গে বসে থাকা সকলে উঠলেন।
31 And when they had retired, they spoke one with another, saying, This man has done nothing worthy of death, or of bonds.
তাঁরা সেই ঘর ত্যাগ করলেন ও পরস্পরের সঙ্গে আলোচনা করার সময়ে বললেন, “এই ব্যক্তি মৃত্যুদণ্ড বা কারাগারে বন্দি হওয়ার যোগ্য কিছুই করেনি।”
32 And Agrippa said to Festus, This man might have been set at liberty, if he had not appealed to Cesar.
আগ্রিপ্প ফীষ্টকে বললেন, “কৈসরের কাছে আপিল না করলে এই ব্যক্তিকে মুক্তি দেওয়া যেত।”
