< 2 Timothy 2 >

1 Therefore, my son, be strong in the favor which is through Christ Jesus.
Thou, therefore, my child, be empowering thyself in the favour that is in Christ Jesus,
2 And what things you have heard from me by many witnesses, these commit in trust to faithful men, who shall be fit also to teach others.
And, the things which thou hast heard from me among many witnesses, the same, entrust thou unto faithful men, such as shall be, competent, to teach, others also.
3 Endure evil as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
Take thy part in suffering hardship, as a brave soldier of Christ Jesus: —
4 No man who wars entangles himself with the occupations of this life, that he may please him, who has chosen him to be a soldier.
No one that is serving as a soldier, entangleth himself with the matters of his livelihood, that he may please him that hath summoned him to serve as a soldier;
5 And also if one contend in the games, he is not crowned unless he contend according to the laws.
If, moreover, any man, contend even in the games, he is not crowned, unless, lawfully, he contend;
6 It becomes the husbandman to labor, before he partakes of the fruits.
The toiling husbandman, ought, first, of the fruits, to partake:
7 Consider what I say; and may the Lord give you understanding in all things!
Think, as to what I am speaking; for the Lord will give thee discernment in all things.
8 Remember, Jesus Christ, of the seed of David, has been raised from the dead, according to my gospel;
Keep in mind Jesus Christ—raised from among the dead, of the seed of David, —according to my joyful message:
9 for which I suffer evil as a malefactor, even to bonds; but the word of God is not bound.
In which I am suffering hardship, even unto bonds, as an evil-doer; but, the word of God, is not bound.
10 For this cause I patiently bear all things on account of the elect; that they, indeed, may obtain the salvation which is by Christ Jesus with eternal glory. (aiōnios g166)
For this cause, am I enduring, all things, for the sake of the chosen, in order that, they also, may obtain, the salvation, which is in Christ Jesus along with glory age-abiding. (aiōnios g166)
11 This saying is true, that if we die with him, we shall also live with him:
Faithful, the saying—for, If we have died together, we shall also live together,
12 if we suffer patiently, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us.
If we endure, we shall also reign together; If we shall deny, he also, will deny us,
13 Though we be unfaithful, he abides faithful; he can not deny himself.
If we are faithless, he, faithful, abideth, —for, deny himself, he cannot!
14 Put them in remembrance of these things; earnestly testifying to them in the presence of the Lord, not to fight about words for nothing useful, but to the subverting of the hearers.
Of these things, be putting [them] in remembrance, adjuring [them] before God not to be waging word-battles, —useful, for nothing, occasioning a subversion of them that hearken.
15 Strive to exhibit yourself to God an approved workman, irreproachable, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Give diligence, thyself, approved, to present unto God, —a workman not to be put to shame, skillfully handling the word of truth.
16 But profane empty babblings resist, for they will increase to more ungodliness.
But, the profane pratings, shun; for, unto more ungodliness, will they force themselves on;
17 And their word will eat as a gangrene: for whom are Hymeneus and Philetus;
And, their discourse, as a gangrene, will eat its way; —of whom are Hymenaeus and Philetus,
18 who, concerning the truth, have erred, affirming that the resurrection has already happened, and do subvert the faith of some.
Men who, concerning the truth, have erred, affirming, a resurrection, already, to have taken place, and are overthrowing the faith, of some.
19 Nevertheless, the foundation of God stands firm, having this inscription, The Lord has made known them who are his: -- and, Let every one who names the name of Christ, depart from iniquity.
Howbeit, the firm foundation of God, standeth, having this seal—The Lord hath acknowledged them who are his, and, Let every one that nameth the name of the Lord stand aloof from unrighteousness.
20 But, in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earthenware; some to honor, and some to dishonor.
But, in a great house, there are not only gold and silver vessels, but, also wooden and earthen: and, some, indeed, for honour, while, some, are for dishonour:
21 If, then, a man will cleanse himself well from these, he will be a vessel appointed to honor, sanctified, and very profitable for the master's use, prepared for every good work.
If, therefore, anyone will, for pureness, sever himself from these, he shall be a vessel for honour, hallowed, meet for the Master’s use, for every good work, prepared.
22 Flee, therefore, youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, with them who call on the Lord from a pure heart.
But, from the youthful covetings, flee! and pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace, along with them who call upon the Lord out of a pure heart.
23 Moreover, foolish and ignorant questions reject, knowing that they beget contentions;
But, from the foolish and undisciplined questionings, excuse thyself, knowing that they gender strifes;
24 and the servant of the Lord must not be contentious, but gentle toward all men, fit to teach, patiently bearing evil,
And, a servant of the Lord, ought not to strive, but to be, gentle, towards all, apt in teaching, ready to endure malice, —
25 in meekness instructing those who set themselves in opposition; if, by any means God will give them reformation to the acknowledgment of truth;
In meekness, bringing under discipline them that oppose themselves, lest at any time God should give them repentance unto a personal knowledge of truth,
26 and they may awake up out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.
And they should wake up to sobriety out of, the adversary’s, snare, —though they have been taken alive by him for, that one’s, will.
