1 Peter 3
1 In like manner, let the wives be in subjection to their own husbands; that, indeed, if any obey not the word, they, without the word, may be won by the behavior of their wives,
একইভাবে স্ত্রীরা, তোমরা তোমাদের নিজ নিজ স্বামীর বশ্যতাধীন হও। তাদের মধ্যে কেউ কেউ যদি বাক্যের অবাধ্য হয়, তবে কোনো বাক্য ছাড়াই তাদের স্ত্রীর আচার-আচরণের দ্বারা তাদের জয় করা যাবে,
2 (when they behold you chaste behavior, joined with reverence: )
যখন তারা তোমাদের জীবনের শুদ্ধতা ও সম্ভ্রমপূর্ণ মনোভাব লক্ষ্য করবে।
3 whose adorning, let it not be that which is external--the plaiting of hair, trinkets of gold, or finery of dress;
তোমাদের সৌন্দর্য যেন বাহ্যিক সাজসজ্জা, যেমন চুলের বাহার, সোনার অলংকার বা সূক্ষ্ম পোশাক-পরিচ্ছদের উপর নির্ভরশীল না হয়।
4 but--the hidden man of the heart, with the incorruptible ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which, in the sight of God, is of great value.
বরং সেই সৌন্দর্য হবে তোমাদের আন্তরিক সত্তার, শান্ত ও কোমল আত্মার অম্লান শোভায় ভূষিত, যা ঈশ্বরের দৃষ্টিতে মহামূল্যবান।
5 For thus, anciently, the holy women, also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection to their own husbands;
কারণ প্রাচীনকালের পবিত্র নারীরা, যাঁরা ঈশ্বরের উপরে প্রত্যাশা রাখতেন, এভাবেই নিজেদের সৌন্দর্যময়ী করতেন। তাঁরা নিজের নিজের স্বামীর বশ্যতাধীন থাকতেন,
6 even as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him Lord; whose daughters you are become, doing well, and not fearing any terror.
যেমন সারা, তিনি অব্রাহামের বাধ্য ছিলেন এবং তাঁকে “প্রভু” বলে সম্বোধন করতেন। যদি তোমরা ন্যায়সংগত কাজ করো ও ভয়ভীত না হও, তাহলে তোমরা তাঁরই কন্যা হয়ে উঠেছ।
7 In like manner, husbands, dwell with your wives according to knowledge, giving honor to the wife, as the weaker vessel, and as joint heirs of the favor of life, that your prayers be not hindered.
একইভাবে স্বামীরা, তোমরা তোমাদের স্ত্রীর সঙ্গে বাস করার সময় সুবিবেচক হও। তাদের দুর্বলতর সঙ্গী ও জীবনের অনুগ্রহ-রূপ বরদানের সহ-উত্তরাধিকারী জেনে, তোমরা তাদের সঙ্গে শ্রদ্ধাপূর্বক আচরণ কোরো, যেন কোনো কিছুই তোমাদের প্রার্থনায় বাধা সৃষ্টি করতে না পারে।
8 Finally, be all of one mind, sympathizing, lovers of the brethren, tender-hearted, courteous--
সবশেষে বলি, তোমরা সবাই পরস্পরের সঙ্গে মিল রেখে বসবাস করো; তোমরা সহানুভূতিশীল, একে অপরকে ভালোবাসো, দরদি ও নতনম্র হও।
9 not returning evil for evil, or railing for railing; but, on the contrary, bless: knowing that to this you were called, that you might inherit the blessing.
মন্দের পরিশোধে মন্দ বা অপমানের পরিশোধে অপমান কোরো না, বরং আশীর্বাদ কোরো; কারণ এর জন্যই তোমাদের আহ্বান করা হয়েছ, যেন তোমরা আশীর্বাদের অধিকারী হতে পারো।
10 "For he who is desirous to enjoy life, and to see good days, let him restrain his tongue from evil, and his lips from speaking deceit.
কারণ, “কেউ যদি জীবন ভালোবাসতে চায়, মঙ্গলের দিন দেখতে চায়, সে অবশ্যই মন্দ থেকে তার জিভ ও ছলনাপূর্ণ বাক্য থেকে তার ঠোঁট রক্ষা করবে।
11 Let him turn away from evil, and do good; let him turn away from evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and pursue it.
তারা মন্দ থেকে মন ফেরাবে আর সৎকর্ম করবে তারা অবশ্যই শান্তির সন্ধান করবে ও তা অনুসরণ করবে।
12 For the eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and his ears are open to their supplication; but the face of the Lord is against the workers of iniquity."
কারণ প্রভুর দৃষ্টি ধার্মিকদের প্রতি রয়েছে, আর তাদের প্রার্থনায় তিনি কর্ণপাত করেন, কিন্তু যারা দুষ্কর্ম করে প্রভুর মুখ তাদের বিরুদ্ধে।”
13 Besides, who is he that will do evil to you, if you be imitators of the Good One?
তোমরা যদি সৎকর্ম করতে আগ্রহী হও, কে তোমাদের ক্ষতি করবে?
14 Nevertheless, although you even suffer for righteousness' sake, you are happy. Therefore, do not fear their fear, neither be troubled:
কিন্তু ন্যায়সংগত কাজের জন্য যদি তোমরা কষ্টও ভোগ করো, তাহলে তোমরা ধন্য। “তাদের ভীতি প্রদর্শনে তোমরা ভয় পেয়ো না, তোমরা বিচলিত হোয়ো না।”
15 but sanctify the Lord God in your hearts; and be always prepared for giving an answer, with meekness and reverence, to every one who asks of you a reason for the hope which is in you.
কিন্তু তোমাদের হৃদয়ের মধ্যে খ্রীষ্টকেই প্রভু বলে মান্য করো। তোমাদের অন্তরের প্রত্যাশার কারণ সম্পর্কে কেউ জানতে চাইলে, তাকে উত্তর দেওয়ার জন্য সবসময় প্রস্তুত থেকো। কিন্তু তা কোমলতা ও শ্রদ্ধার সঙ্গে কোরো,
16 Hold fast a good conscience, that, whereas they speak against you as evil doers, they may be put to shame who arraign your good behavior in Christ.
বিবেককে স্বচ্ছ রেখো, যেন তোমাদের খ্রীষ্টীয় সদাচরণ দেখে যারা বিদ্বেষপূর্ণভাবে তোমাদের বিরুদ্ধে কথা বলে, তারা তাদের কটূক্তির জন্য লজ্জিত হয়।
17 For it is better to suffer as well doers, if the will of God appoints it, than as evil doers.
যদি ঈশ্বরের ইচ্ছা হয়, তবে দুষ্কর্ম করে দুঃখকষ্ট ভোগ করার চেয়ে বরং সৎকর্ম করে কষ্টভোগ করা শ্রেয়।
18 For even Christ once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God; being put to death, indeed, in the flesh, but made alice by the Spirit.
কারণ খ্রীষ্টও পাপের প্রায়শ্চিত্তের জন্য একবারই মৃত্যুবরণ করেছেন, সেই ধার্মিক ব্যক্তি অধার্মিকদের জন্য করেছেন, যেন তোমাদের ঈশ্বরের কাছে নিয়ে যেতে পারেন। তাঁকে শরীরে হত্যা করা হলেও আত্মায় জীবিত করা হয়েছে,
19 By which, also, he made proclamation to the spirits in prison,
যাঁর মাধ্যমে কারাগারে বন্দি আত্মাদের কাছে গিয়ে তিনি প্রচার করেছিলেন।
20 who formerly were disobedient, when the patience of God once waited, in the days of Noah, while an ark was preparing, in which few, that is, eight souls, were effectually saved through water--
এই আত্মারা বহুপূর্বে অবাধ্য হয়েছিল, যখন ঈশ্বর নোহের সময়ে সহিষ্ণুতার সঙ্গে অপেক্ষা করেছিলেন এবং জাহাজ নির্মিত হচ্ছিল। এর মধ্যে মাত্র কয়েকজন, সর্বমোট আটজন জলের মধ্য থেকে উদ্ধার পেয়েছিল।
21 the antitype, immersion, does, also, now save us, (not putting away the filth of the flesh; but seeking of a good conscience toward God, ) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ;
এই জলই হল বাপ্তিষ্মের প্রতীক, যা এখন তোমাদেরও রক্ষা করে—শরীর থেকে ময়লা দূর করার জন্য নয়, কিন্তু ঈশ্বরের কাছে এক সৎ বিবেক নিবেদন করার জন্য। এ যীশু খ্রীষ্টের পুনরুত্থান দ্বারা তোমাদের পরিত্রাণ সাধন করে।
22 who, having gone into heaven, is at the right hand of God; angels, and authorities, and powers, being subjected to him.
তিনি স্বর্গে গিয়েছেন ও ঈশ্বরের ডানদিকে আছেন—সব স্বর্গদূত, কর্তৃত্ব ও পরাক্রম তাঁরই বশ্যতাধীন রয়েছে।
