< 1 John 5 >
1 Every one who believes that Jesus is the Christ, has been begotten by God; and every one who loves the begetter, loves also the begotten by him.
yīśurabhiṣiktastrātēti yaḥ kaścid viśvāsiti sa īśvarāt jātaḥ; aparaṁ yaḥ kaścit janayitari prīyatē sa tasmāt jātē janē 'pi prīyatē|
2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.
vayam īśvarasya santānēṣu prīyāmahē tad anēna jānīmō yad īśvarē prīyāmahē tasyājñāḥ pālayāmaśca|
3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not burdensome;
yata īśvarē yat prēma tat tadīyājñāpālanēnāsmābhiḥ prakāśayitavyaṁ, tasyājñāśca kaṭhōrā na bhavanti|
4 because, every one that is begotten by God, overcomes the world. And this is the victory which overcomes the world, even our faith.
yatō yaḥ kaścid īśvarāt jātaḥ sa saṁsāraṁ jayati kiñcāsmākaṁ yō viśvāsaḥ sa ēvāsmākaṁ saṁsārajayijayaḥ|
5 Who is he that overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
yīśurīśvarasya putra iti yō viśvasiti taṁ vinā kō'paraḥ saṁsāraṁ jayati?
6 This is her who came by water and blood, even Jesus the Christ; not by the water only, but by the water and the blood.
sō'bhiṣiktastrātā yīśustōyarudhirābhyām āgataḥ kēvalaṁ tōyēna nahi kintu tōyarudhirābhyām, ātmā ca sākṣī bhavati yata ātmā satyatāsvarūpaḥ|
7 And it is the Spirit who testified; because the Spirit is the truth.
yatō hētōḥ svargē pitā vādaḥ pavitra ātmā ca traya imē sākṣiṇaḥ santi, traya imē caikō bhavanti|
8 Indeed, there are three who bear testimony: the Spirit, and the water, and the blood; and these three agree in one.
tathā pr̥thivyām ātmā tōyaṁ rudhirañca trīṇyētāni sākṣyaṁ dadāti tēṣāṁ trayāṇām ēkatvaṁ bhavati ca|
9 If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater. Now, this is the testimony of God, which he has testified concerning his Son.
mānavānāṁ sākṣyaṁ yadyasmābhi rgr̥hyatē tarhīśvarasya sākṣyaṁ tasmādapi śrēṣṭhaṁ yataḥ svaputramadhīśvarēṇa dattaṁ sākṣyamidaṁ|
10 (He who believes on the Son of God, has the testimony in himself. He who believes not God, has made him a liar, because he has not believed the testimony, which God has testified concerning his Son.)
11 Now this is the testimony, that God has given to us eternal life: and this life is in his Son. (aiōnios )
tacca sākṣyamidaṁ yad īśvarō 'smabhyam anantajīvanaṁ dattavān tacca jīvanaṁ tasya putrē vidyatē| (aiōnios )
12 He who has the Son, has this life; he who has not the Son of God, has not this life.
yaḥ putraṁ dhārayati sa jīvanaṁ dhāriyati, īśvarasya putraṁ yō na dhārayati sa jīvanaṁ na dhārayati|
13 These things I have written to you, that you may know that you have eternal life--that you may continue to believe on the name of the Son of God. (aiōnios )
īśvaraputrasya nāmni yuṣmān pratyētāni mayā likhitāni tasyābhiprāyō 'yaṁ yad yūyam anantajīvanaprāptā iti jānīyāta tasyēśvaraputrasya nāmni viśvasēta ca| (aiōnios )
14 And this is the confidence which we have with him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he hearkens to us.
tasyāntikē 'smākaṁ yā pratibhā bhavati tasyāḥ kāraṇamidaṁ yad vayaṁ yadi tasyābhimataṁ kimapi taṁ yācāmahē tarhi sō 'smākaṁ vākyaṁ śr̥ṇōti|
15 And if we know that he hearkens to us, concerning whatever we ask; we know that we shall obtain the petitions which we have asked from him.
sa cāsmākaṁ yat kiñcana yācanaṁ śr̥ṇōtīti yadi jānīmastarhi tasmād yācitā varā asmābhiḥ prāpyantē tadapi jānīmaḥ|
16 If any one see his brother sinning a sin, not to death, let him ask, and he will grant to him life, for those who sin not to death. There is a sin leading to death. I do not say concerning it, that you should ask.
kaścid yadi svabhrātaram amr̥tyujanakaṁ pāpaṁ kurvvantaṁ paśyati tarhi sa prārthanāṁ karōtu tēnēśvarastasmai jīvanaṁ dāsyati, arthatō mr̥tyujanakaṁ pāpaṁ yēna nākāritasmai| kintu mr̥tyujanakam ēkaṁ pāpam āstē tadadhi tēna prārthanā kriyatāmityahaṁ na vadāmi|
17 All unrighteousness is sin: but there is a sin not to death.
sarvva ēvādharmmaḥ pāpaṁ kintu sarvvapāṁpa mr̥tyujanakaṁ nahi|
18 We know that whoever has been begotten by God, does not sin; but he who is begotten by God, guards himself, and the wicked on does not lay hold on him.
ya īśvarāt jātaḥ sa pāpācāraṁ na karōti kintvīśvarāt jātō janaḥ svaṁ rakṣati tasmāt sa pāpātmā taṁ na spr̥śatīti vayaṁ jānīmaḥ|
19 We know that we are of God, and that the whole world lies under the wicked one.
vayam īśvarāt jātāḥ kintu kr̥tsnaḥ saṁsāraḥ pāpātmanō vaśaṁ gatō 'stīti jānīmaḥ|
20 Moreover, we know that the Son of God has come, and has given us understanding, that we might know him that is true; and we are in him that is true--in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and the eternal life. (aiōnios )
aparam īśvarasya putra āgatavān vayañca yayā tasya satyamayasya jñānaṁ prāpnuyāmastādr̥śīṁ dhiyam asmabhyaṁ dattavān iti jānīmastasmin satyamayē 'rthatastasya putrē yīśukhrīṣṭē tiṣṭhāmaśca; sa ēva satyamaya īśvarō 'nantajīvanasvarūpaścāsti| (aiōnios )
21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols.
