< Romans 2 >

1 Therefore, you are inexcusable, O man—everyone who is judging—for in that in which you judge the other, yourself you condemn, for the same things you practice who are judging,
hE paradUSaka manuSya yaH kazcana tvaM bhavasi tavOttaradAnAya panthA nAsti yatO yasmAt karmmaNaH parastvayA dUSyatE tasmAt tvamapi dUSyasE, yatastaM dUSayannapi tvaM tadvad Acarasi|
2 and we have known that the judgment of God is according to truth, on those practicing such things.
kintvEtAdRgAcAribhyO yaM daNPam IzvarO nizcinOti sa yathArtha iti vayaM jAnImaH|
3 And do you think this, O man, who are judging those who such things are practicing, and are doing them, that you will escape the judgment of God?
ataEva hE mAnuSa tvaM yAdRgAcAriNO dUSayasi svayaM yadi tAdRgAcarasi tarhi tvam IzvaradaNPAt palAyituM zakSyasIti kiM budhyasE?
4 Or the riches of His goodness, and forbearance, and long-suffering, do you despise, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to conversion?
aparaM tava manasaH parivarttanaM karttum izvarasyAnugrahO bhavati tanna buddhvA tvaM kiM tadIyAnugrahakSamAcirasahiSNutvanidhiM tucchIkarOSi?
5 But according to your hardness and impenitent heart, you treasure up wrath to yourself in [the] day of wrath and of the revelation of the righteous judgment of God,
tathA svAntaHkaraNasya kaThOratvAt khEdarAhityAccEzvarasya nyAyyavicAraprakAzanasya krOdhasya ca dinaM yAvat kiM svArthaM kOpaM sanjcinOSi?
6 who will render to each according to his works;
kintu sa EkaikamanujAya tatkarmmAnusArENa pratiphalaM dAsyati;
7 to those, indeed, who in continuance of a good work, seek glory, and honor, and incorruptibility—continuous life; (aiōnios g166)
vastutastu yE janA dhairyyaM dhRtvA satkarmma kurvvantO mahimA satkArO'maratvanjcaitAni mRgayantE tEbhyO'nantAyu rdAsyati| (aiōnios g166)
8 and to those contentious, and disobedient, indeed, to the truth, and obeying the unrighteousness—indignation and wrath,
aparaM yE janAH satyadharmmam agRhItvA viparItadharmmam gRhlanti tAdRzA virOdhijanAH kOpaM krOdhanjca bhOkSyantE|
9 tribulation and distress, on every soul of man that is working the evil, both of Jew first, and of Greek;
A yihUdinO'nyadEzinaH paryyantaM yAvantaH kukarmmakAriNaH prANinaH santi tE sarvvE duHkhaM yAtanAnjca gamiSyanti;
10 and glory, and honor, and peace, to everyone who is working the good, both to Jew first, and to Greek.
kintu A yihUdinO bhinnadEziparyyantA yAvantaH satkarmmakAriNO lOkAH santi tAn prati mahimA satkAraH zAntizca bhaviSyanti|
11 For there is no favor by appearance with God,
Izvarasya vicArE pakSapAtO nAsti|
12 for as many as sinned without law, will also perish without law, and as many as sinned in law, through law will be judged,
alabdhavyavasthAzAstrai ryaiH pApAni kRtAni vyavasthAzAstrAlabdhatvAnurUpastESAM vinAzO bhaviSyati; kintu labdhavyavasthAzAstrA yE pApAnyakurvvan vyavasthAnusArAdEva tESAM vicArO bhaviSyati|
13 for not the hearers of the Law [are] righteous before God, but the doers of the Law will be declared righteous.
vyavasthAzrOtAra Izvarasya samIpE niSpApA bhaviSyantIti nahi kintu vyavasthAcAriNa Eva sapuNyA bhaviSyanti|
14 For when nations that have no law, by nature may do the things of the Law, these not having a law—to themselves are a law,
yatO 'labdhavyavasthAzAstrA bhinnadEzIyalOkA yadi svabhAvatO vyavasthAnurUpAn AcArAn kurvvanti tarhyalabdhazAstrAH santO'pi tE svESAM vyavasthAzAstramiva svayamEva bhavanti|
15 who show the work of the Law written in their hearts, their conscience also witnessing with them, and between one another the thoughts accusing or else defending,
tESAM manasi sAkSisvarUpE sati tESAM vitarkESu ca kadA tAn dOSiNaH kadA vA nirdOSAn kRtavatsu tE svAntarlikhitasya vyavasthAzAstrasya pramANaM svayamEva dadati|
16 in the day when God will judge the secrets of men, according to my good news, through Jesus Christ.
yasmin dinE mayA prakAzitasya susaMvAdasyAnusArAd IzvarO yIzukhrISTEna mAnuSANAm antaHkaraNAnAM gUPhAbhiprAyAn dhRtvA vicArayiSyati tasmin vicAradinE tat prakAziSyatE|
17 Behold, you are named a Jew, and rest on the Law, and boast in God,
pazya tvaM svayaM yihUdIti vikhyAtO vyavasthOpari vizvAsaM karOSi,
18 and know the will, and approve the distinctions, being instructed out of the Law,
Izvaramuddizya svaM zlAghasE, tathA vyavasthayA zikSitO bhUtvA tasyAbhimataM jAnAsi, sarvvAsAM kathAnAM sAraM viviMkSE,
19 and have confidence that you yourself are a leader of blind ones, a light of those in darkness,
aparaM jnjAnasya satyatAyAzcAkarasvarUpaM zAstraM mama samIpE vidyata atO 'ndhalOkAnAM mArgadarzayitA
20 a corrector of foolish ones, a teacher of babies, having the form of the knowledge and of the truth in the Law.
timirasthitalOkAnAM madhyE dIptisvarUpO'jnjAnalOkEbhyO jnjAnadAtA zizUnAM zikSayitAhamEvEti manyasE|
21 You, then, who are teaching another, do you not teach yourself?
parAn zikSayan svayaM svaM kiM na zikSayasi? vastutazcauryyaniSEdhavyavasthAM pracArayan tvaM kiM svayamEva cOrayasi?
22 You who are preaching not to steal, do you steal? You who are saying not to commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who are abhorring the idols, do you rob temples?
tathA paradAragamanaM pratiSEdhan svayaM kiM paradArAn gacchasi? tathA tvaM svayaM pratimAdvESI san kiM mandirasya dravyANi harasi?
23 You who boast in the Law, through the transgression of the Law do you dishonor God?
yastvaM vyavasthAM zlAghasE sa tvaM kiM vyavasthAm avamatya nEzvaraM sammanyasE?
24 For evil is spoken of the Name of God among the nations because of you, according as it has been written.
zAstrE yathA likhati "bhinnadEzinAM samIpE yuSmAkaM dOSAd Izvarasya nAmnO nindA bhavati|"
25 For circumcision, indeed, profits, if you may practice law, but if you may be a transgressor of law, your circumcision has become uncircumcision.
yadi vyavasthAM pAlayasi tarhi tava tvakchEdakriyA saphalA bhavati; yati vyavasthAM lagghasE tarhi tava tvakchEdO'tvakchEdO bhaviSyati|
26 If, therefore, the uncircumcision may keep the righteousness of the Law, will not his uncircumcision be reckoned for circumcision?
yatO vyavasthAzAstrAdiSTadharmmakarmmAcArI pumAn atvakchEdI sannapi kiM tvakchEdinAM madhyE na gaNayiSyatE?
27 And the uncircumcision, by nature, fulfilling the Law, will judge you who, through letter and circumcision, [are] a transgressor of law.
kintu labdhazAstrazchinnatvak ca tvaM yadi vyavasthAlagghanaM karOSi tarhi vyavasthApAlakAH svAbhAvikAcchinnatvacO lOkAstvAM kiM na dUSayiSyanti?
28 For he is not a Jew who is [so] outwardly, neither [is] circumcision that which is outward in flesh;
tasmAd yO bAhyE yihUdI sa yihUdI nahi tathAggasya yastvakchEdaH sa tvakchEdO nahi;
29 but a Jew [is] he who is [so] inwardly, and circumcision [is] of the heart, in spirit, not in letter, of which the praise is not of men, but of God.
kintu yO jana AntarikO yihUdI sa Eva yihUdI aparanjca kEvalalikhitayA vyavasthayA na kintu mAnasikO yastvakchEdO yasya ca prazaMsA manuSyEbhyO na bhUtvA IzvarAd bhavati sa Eva tvakchEdaH|
