< Romans 2 >

1 Therefore, you are inexcusable, O man—everyone who is judging—for in that in which you judge the other, yourself you condemn, for the same things you practice who are judging,
ⲁ̅ⲉⲑⲃⲉ ⲫⲁⲓ ⳿ⲭⲛⲁ⳿ϣⲉⲣⲟⲩⲱ ⲁⲛ ⲱ ⳿ⲫⲣⲱⲙⲓ ϧⲁ ⲟⲩⲟⲛ ⲛⲓⲃⲉⲛ ⲉⲧϯϩⲁⲡ ϧⲉⲛ ⲡⲓϩⲁⲡ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲉⲧⲉⲕϯ ⳿ⲙⲙⲟϥ ⳿ⲉⲡⲉⲕ⳿ϣⲫⲏⲣ ⲁⲕϩⲓⲟⲩⲓ ⳿ⲙⲙⲟⲕ ⳿ⲉ⳿ⲡϩⲁⲡ ⳿ⲙⲙⲁⲩⲁⲧⲕ ⲛⲁⲓ ⲅⲁⲣ ϩⲱⲕ ⲟⲛ ⲉⲧⲉⲕ⳿⳿ⲓⲣⲓ ⳿ⲙⲙⲱⲟⲩ ϧⲁ ⲫⲏⲉⲧϯϩⲁⲡ.
2 and we have known that the judgment of God is according to truth, on those practicing such things.
ⲃ̅ⲧⲉⲛ⳿ⲉⲙⲓ ⲅⲁⲣ ϫⲉ ⲡⲓϩⲁⲡ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⲫϯ ⲁϥϣⲟⲡ ⲕⲁⲧⲁ ⲟⲩⲙⲉⲑⲙⲏⲓ ⳿ⲉϫⲉⲛ ⲛⲏⲉⲧ⳿⳿ⲓⲣⲓ ⳿ⲛⲛⲁⲓ ⳿ⲙⲡⲁⲓⲣⲏϯ.
3 And do you think this, O man, who are judging those who such things are practicing, and are doing them, that you will escape the judgment of God?
ⲅ̅⳿ⲭⲙⲉⲩⲓ ⲇⲉ ⳿ⲛⲑⲟⲕ ⳿ⲉⲫⲁⲓ ⲱ ⳿ⲫⲣⲱⲙⲓ ⲫⲏⲉⲧϯϩⲁⲡ ⳿ⲉⲛⲏⲉⲧ⳿⳿ⲓⲣⲓ ⳿ⲛⲛⲁⲓ ⳿ⲙⲡⲁⲓⲣⲏϯ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⳿ⲭⲣⲁ ⳿ⲙⲙⲱⲟⲩ ϩⲱⲕ ⲟⲛ ϫⲉ ⲁⲛ ⳿ⲭⲛⲁ⳿ϣⲫⲱⲧ ⳿ⲛⲑⲟⲕ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉⲛ ⲡⲓϩⲁⲡ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⲫϯ.
4 Or the riches of His goodness, and forbearance, and long-suffering, do you despise, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to conversion?
ⲇ̅ϣⲁⲛ ⳿ⲕⲉⲣⲕⲁⲧⲁ⳿ⲫⲣⲟⲛⲓⲛ ⳿ⲛϯⲙⲉⲧⲣⲁⲙⲁ⳿ⲟ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⲧⲉϥⲙⲉⲧⲭ͞ⲣⲥ̅ ⲛⲉⲙ ⲧⲉϥⲙⲉⲧⲣⲉϥⲉⲣⲁⲛⲉⲭⲉⲥⲑⲉ ⲛⲉⲙ ⲧⲉϥⲙⲉⲧⲣⲉϥⲱⲟⲩ ⳿ⲛϩⲏⲧ ⳿ⲛ⳿ⲕ⳿ⲉⲙⲓ ⲁⲛ ϫⲉ ϯⲙⲉⲧⲭ͞ⲣⲥ̅ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⲫϯ ⲥⲓⲛⲓ ⳿ⲙⲙⲟⲕ ⲉⲩⲙⲉⲧⲁⲛⲟⲓⲁ.
5 But according to your hardness and impenitent heart, you treasure up wrath to yourself in [the] day of wrath and of the revelation of the righteous judgment of God,

7 to those, indeed, who in continuance of a good work, seek glory, and honor, and incorruptibility—continuous life; (aiōnios g166)

8 and to those contentious, and disobedient, indeed, to the truth, and obeying the unrighteousness—indignation and wrath,
ⲏ̅ⲛⲏ ⲇⲉ ⲉⲧⲉ ⳿ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϧⲉⲛ ⲟⲩ⳿ϣϭⲛⲏⲛ ⲛⲉ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⳿ⲛⲥⲉϯⲙⲁϯ ⲁⲛ ⲛⲉⲙ ⳿ⲑⲙⲏⲓ ⲉⲩⲑⲏⲧ ⲇⲉ ⳿ⲛϩⲏⲧ ⲛⲉⲙ ϯⲙⲉⲧϭⲓ ⳿ⲛϫⲟⲛⲥ ⲟⲩϫⲱⲛⲧ ⲛⲉⲙ ⲟⲩ⳿ⲙⲃⲟⲛ.

10 and glory, and honor, and peace, to everyone who is working the good, both to Jew first, and to Greek.

11 For there is no favor by appearance with God,
ⲓ̅ⲁ̅⳿ⲙⲙⲟⲛ ⲙⲉⲧⲣⲉϥϭⲓϩⲟ ϧⲁⲧⲉⲛ ⲫϯ.
12 for as many as sinned without law, will also perish without law, and as many as sinned in law, through law will be judged,
ⲓ̅ⲃ̅ⲛⲏ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲉⲧⲁⲩⲉⲣⲛⲟⲃⲓ ⲁⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲁⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲟⲛ ⲥⲉⲛⲁⲧⲁⲕⲱⲟⲩ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲛⲏⲉⲧⲁⲩⲉⲣⲛⲟⲃⲓ ϧⲉⲛ ⲡⲓⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲥⲉⲛⲁϯϩⲁⲡ ⳿ⲉⲣⲱⲟⲩ ⳿ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲓⲧⲉⲛ ⲡⲓⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ.
13 for not the hearers of the Law [are] righteous before God, but the doers of the Law will be declared righteous.
ⲓ̅ⲅ̅ⲟⲩ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲛⲓⲣⲉϥⲥⲱⲧⲉⲙ ⳿ⲉⲡⲓⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲁⲛ ⲛⲉ ⲛⲓ⳿ⲑⲙⲏⲓ ϧⲁⲧⲉⲛ ⲫϯ ⲁⲗⲗⲁ ⲛⲏⲉⲧ⳿⳿ⲓⲣⲓ ⳿ⲙⲡⲓⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲉⲧⲟⲩⲛⲁ⳿ⲑⲙⲁⲓⲱⲟⲩ.
14 For when nations that have no law, by nature may do the things of the Law, these not having a law—to themselves are a law,
ⲓ̅ⲇ̅ⲉϣⲱⲡ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲛⲉ ⲛⲓ⳿ⲉⲑⲛⲟⲥ ⲛⲏⲉⲧⲉ ⳿ⲙⲙⲟⲛⲧⲟⲩ ⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⳿ⲙⲙⲁⲩ ⲫⲩⲥⲓⲥ ⲥⲉ⳿ⲓⲣⲓ ⳿ⲛⲛⲁ ⲡⲓⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲛⲁⲓ ⲉⲧⲉ ⳿ⲙⲙⲟⲛⲧⲟⲩ ⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⳿ⲙⲙⲁⲩ ⲥⲉⲟⲓ ⳿ⲛⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲛⲱⲟⲩ ⳿ⲙⲙⲓⲛ ⳿ⲙⲙⲱⲟⲩ.
15 who show the work of the Law written in their hearts, their conscience also witnessing with them, and between one another the thoughts accusing or else defending,
ⲓ̅ⲉ̅ⲛⲁⲓ ⲉⲑⲟⲩⲱⲛϩ ⳿ⲙⲡⲓϩⲱⲃ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⲡⲓⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⳿ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲉϥ⳿ⲥϧⲏⲟⲩⲧ ϧⲉⲛ ⲡⲟⲩϩⲏⲧ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲉⲣⲉ ⲧⲟⲩⲥⲩⲛⲏⲇⲏⲥⲓⲥ ⲉⲣⲙⲉⲑⲣⲉ ⳿ⲉⲣⲱⲟⲩ ⲛⲉⲙⲱⲟⲩ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲉⲣⲉ ⲛⲟⲩⲙⲉⲩⲓ ⲉⲣⲕⲁⲧⲏⲅⲟⲣⲓⲛ ⲟⲩⲧⲱⲟⲩ ⲛⲉⲙ ⲛⲟⲩⲉⲣⲏⲟⲩ ⲓⲉ ⲉⲩⲛⲁⲉⲣ⳿ⲡⲕⲉⲁⲡⲟⲗⲟⲅⲓⲥⲑⲉ.
16 in the day when God will judge the secrets of men, according to my good news, through Jesus Christ.
ⲓ̅ⲋ̅Ϧⲉⲛ ⲡⲓ⳿ⲉϩⲟⲟⲩ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⲫϯ ⲛⲁϯϩⲁⲡ ⳿ⲉⲛⲏⲉⲧϩⲏⲡ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⲡⲓⲣⲱⲙⲓ ⲕⲁⲧⲁ ⲡⲁⲉⲩⲁⲅⲅⲉⲗⲓⲟⲛ ⳿ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲓⲧⲉⲛ Ⲓⲏ̅ⲥ̅ Ⲡⲭ̅ⲥ̅.
17 Behold, you are named a Jew, and rest on the Law, and boast in God,

18 and know the will, and approve the distinctions, being instructed out of the Law,

19 and have confidence that you yourself are a leader of blind ones, a light of those in darkness,
ⲓ̅ⲑ̅⳿ϩⲑⲏⲕ ⲭⲏ ⳿ⲉⲣⲟⲕ ϫⲉ ⳿ⲛⲑⲟⲕ ⲟⲩⲣⲉϥ ϭⲓⲙⲱⲓⲧ ⳿ⲛⲛⲓⲃⲉⲗⲗⲉⲩ ⲟⲩⲟⲩⲱⲓⲛⲓ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⲛⲏⲉⲧϧⲉⲛ ⳿ⲡⲭⲁⲕⲓ.
20 a corrector of foolish ones, a teacher of babies, having the form of the knowledge and of the truth in the Law.
ⲕ̅⳿ⲫⲣⲉϥϯ⳿ⲥⲃⲱ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⲛⲓⲁⲧϩⲏⲧ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⳿ⲡⲥⲁϧ ⳿ⲛⲛⲓⲕⲟⲩϫⲓ ⳿ⲛ⳿ⲁⲗⲱⲟⲩⲓ ⲉⲣⲉ ⳿ⲑⲙⲟⲣⲫⲏ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⳿ⲡ⳿ⲉⲙⲓ ⳿ⲛⲧⲟⲧⲕ ⲛⲉⲙ ϯⲙⲉⲑⲙⲏⲓ ⲉⲧϧⲉⲛ ⲡⲓⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ.
21 You, then, who are teaching another, do you not teach yourself?
ⲕ̅ⲁ̅ⲫⲏ ⲟⲩⲛ ⲉⲧϯ⳿ⲥⲃⲱ ⳿ⲛⲕⲉⲟⲩⲁⲓ ⳿ⲕϯ⳿ⲥⲃⲱ ⲛⲁⲕ ⳿ⲙⲙⲁⲩⲁⲧⲕ ⲁⲛ ⲫⲏⲉⲧϩⲓⲱⲓϣ ⳿ⲉ⳿ϣⲧⲉⲙ ϭⲓⲟⲩ⳿ⲓ ⳿ⲕϭⲓⲟⲩ⳿ⲓ.
22 You who are preaching not to steal, do you steal? You who are saying not to commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who are abhorring the idols, do you rob temples?
ⲕ̅ⲃ̅ⲫⲏⲉⲧϫⲱ ⳿ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ϫⲉ ⳿ⲙⲡⲉⲣⲉⲣⲛⲱⲓⲕ ⳿ⲕⲟⲓ ⳿ⲛⲛⲱⲓⲕ ⲫⲏⲉⲧⲥⲱϥ ⳿ⲛⲛⲓ⳿ⲓⲇⲱⲗⲟⲛ ⳿ⲕⲟⲓ ⳿ⲛⲕⲁⲗⲡⲉⲣⲫⲉⲓ.
23 You who boast in the Law, through the transgression of the Law do you dishonor God?
ⲕ̅ⲅ̅ⲫⲏⲉⲧϣⲟⲩϣⲟⲩ ⳿ⲙⲙⲟϥ ϧⲉⲛ ⲡⲓⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⳿ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲓⲧⲉⲛ ϯⲡⲁⲣⲁⲃⲁⲥⲓⲥ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⲡⲓⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⳿ⲕϣⲱϣ ⳿ⲙⲫϯ.
24 For evil is spoken of the Name of God among the nations because of you, according as it has been written.
ⲕ̅ⲇ̅⳿ⲫⲣⲁⲛ ⲅⲁⲣ ⳿ⲙⲫϯ ⲥⲉϫⲉⲟⲩ⳿ⲁ ⳿ⲉⲣⲟϥ ϧⲉⲛ ⲛⲓⲉⲑⲛⲟⲥ ⲉⲑⲃⲉ ⲑⲏⲛⲟⲩ ⲕⲁⲧⲁ⳿ⲫⲣⲏϯ ⲉⲧ⳿ⲥϧⲏⲟⲩⲧ.
25 For circumcision, indeed, profits, if you may practice law, but if you may be a transgressor of law, your circumcision has become uncircumcision.
ⲕ̅ⲉ̅ⲟⲩⲟⲛ ϩⲏⲟⲩ ⲅⲁⲣ ⳿ⲙⲡⲓⲥⲉⲃⲓ ⲉϣⲱⲡ ⲁⲕϣⲁⲛ⳿⳿ⲓⲣⲓ ⳿ⲙⲡⲓⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲉϣⲱⲡ ⲇⲉ ⲉⲕⲟⲓ ⳿ⲙⲡⲁⲣⲁⲃⲁⲧⲏⲥ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⲡⲓⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲁ ⲡⲉⲕⲥⲉⲃⲓ ⲁϥϣⲱⲡⲓ ⲉⲩⲙⲉⲧⲁⲧⲥⲉⲃⲓ.
26 If, therefore, the uncircumcision may keep the righteousness of the Law, will not his uncircumcision be reckoned for circumcision?

27 And the uncircumcision, by nature, fulfilling the Law, will judge you who, through letter and circumcision, [are] a transgressor of law.

28 For he is not a Jew who is [so] outwardly, neither [is] circumcision that which is outward in flesh;

29 but a Jew [is] he who is [so] inwardly, and circumcision [is] of the heart, in spirit, not in letter, of which the praise is not of men, but of God.
