< Revelation 21 >

1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and the sea is no more;
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.
2 and I saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down from God out of Heaven, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband;
I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, that came down out of heaven from God, prepared like a bride adorned for her husband.
3 and I heard a great voice out of Heaven, saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God [is] with men, and He will dwell with them, and they will be His peoples, and God Himself will be with them [as] their God,
I heard a great voice from the throne saying, “Look! The dwelling place of God is with human beings, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and he will be their God.
4 and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying, nor will there be anymore pain, because the first things passed away.”
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death, or grieving, or crying, or pain. The former things have passed away.
5 And He who is sitting on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new”; and He says to me, “Write, because these words are true and steadfast”;
The one who was seated on the throne said, “Look! I make all things new.” He said, “Write this down because these words are trustworthy and true.”
6 and He said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To him who is thirsting, I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely.
He said to me, “These things are done! I am the alpha and the omega, the beginning and the end. To the one who thirsts I will give drink without cost from the spring of the water of life.
7 The [one] who is overcoming will inherit all things, and I will be his God, and he will be My son.
The one who conquers will inherit these things, and I will be his God, and he will be my son.
8 But to fearful, and unsteadfast, and abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all the liars, their part [is] in the lake that is burning with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.” (Limnē Pyr g3041 g4442)
But as for the cowards, the faithless, the detestable, the murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. That is the second death.” (Limnē Pyr g3041 g4442)
9 And one of the seven messengers, having the seven bowls that are full of the seven last plagues, came and spoke with me, saying, “Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb,”
One of the seven angels came to me, the one who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues, and he said, “Come here. I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.”
10 and he carried me away in the Spirit to a mountain great and high, and showed me the great city, the holy Jerusalem, coming down out of Heaven from God,
Then he carried me away in the Spirit to a great and high mountain and showed me the holy city Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God.
11 having the glory of God, and her light—like a most precious stone, as a jasper stone clear as crystal,
Jerusalem had the glory of God, and its brilliance was like a very precious jewel, like a stone of crystal-clear jasper.
12 also having a great and high wall, having twelve gates, and at the gates twelve messengers, and names written thereon, which are [those] of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel—
It had a great, high wall with twelve gates, with twelve angels at the gates. On the gates were written the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel.
13 at the east three gates, at the north three gates, at the south three gates, at the west three gates;
On the east were three gates, on the north three gates, on the south three gates, and on the west three gates.
14 and the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
The wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
15 And he who is speaking with me had a golden reed, that he may measure the city, and its gates, and its wall;
The one who spoke with me had a measuring rod made of gold to measure the city, its gates, and its wall.
16 and the city lies square, and the length of it is as great as the breadth; and he measured the city with the reed—twelve thousand stadia; the length, and the breadth, and the height of it are equal.
The city was laid out in a square; its length was the same as its width. He measured the city with the measuring rod, twelve thousand stadia in length (its length, width, and height were the same).
17 And he measured its wall—one hundred forty-four cubits, the measure of a man, that is, of the messenger;
He also measured its wall, 144 cubits thick by human measurement (which is also the angel's measure).
18 and the building of its wall was jasper, and the city [is] pure gold—like to pure glass.
The wall was built of jasper and the city of pure gold, like clear glass.
19 And the foundations of the wall of the city have been adorned with every precious stone: the first foundation jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony, the fourth emerald,
The foundations of the wall were adorned with every kind of precious stone. The first was jasper, the second was sapphire, the third was agate, the fourth was emerald,
20 the fifth sardonyx, the sixth sardius, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, the twelfth amethyst.
the fifth was onyx, the sixth was carnelian, the seventh was chrysolite, the eighth was beryl, the ninth was topaz, the tenth was chrysoprase, the eleventh was jacinth, and the twelfth was amethyst.
21 And the twelve gates [are] twelve pearls, each one of the gates respectively was of one pearl; and the street of the city [is] pure gold—as transparent glass.
The twelve gates were twelve pearls; each of the gates was made from a single pearl. The streets of the city were pure gold, like transparent glass.
22 And I did not see a temple in it, for the LORD God, the Almighty, and the Lamb, are its temple.
I saw no temple in the city, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple.
23 And the city has no need of the sun, nor of the moon, that they may shine in it; for the glory of God lightens it, and the lamp of it—the Lamb;
The city had no need of the sun or the moon in order to shine on it because the glory of God shone on it, and its lamp is the Lamb.
24 and the nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth bring their glory and honor into it,
The nations will walk by the light of that city. The kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it.
25 and its gates will never be shut by day, for night will not be there;
Its gates will not be shut during the day, and there will be no night there.
26 and they will bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it;
They will bring the splendor and the honor of the nations into it,
27 and there may never enter into it anything defiling and doing abomination, and a lie, if not those written in the Lamb’s Scroll of Life.
but nothing unclean will ever enter into it, nor anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb's Book of Life.
