Psalms 75

1 TO THE OVERSEER. “DO NOT DESTROY.” A PSALM OF ASAPH. A SONG. We have given thanks to You, O God, We have given thanks, and Your Name [is] near, They have recounted Your wonders.

Voor den opperzangmeester, Al-tascheth; een psalm, een lied, voor Asaf. Wij loven U, o God! wij loven, dat Uw Naam nabij is; men vertelt Uw wonderen.

2 When I receive an appointment, I judge uprightly.

Als ik het bestemde ambt zal ontvangen hebben, zo zal ik gans recht richten.

3 The earth and all its inhabitants are melted, I have pondered its pillars. (Selah)

Het land en al zijn inwoners waren versmolten; maar ik heb zijn pilaren vastgemaakt. (Sela)

4 I have said to the boastful, “Do not be boastful,” And to the wicked, “Do not raise up a horn.”

Ik heb gezegd tot de onzinnigen: Weest niet onzinnig; en tot de goddelozen: Verhoogt den hoorn niet.

5 Do not raise up your horn on high (You speak with a stiff neck).

Verhoogt uw hoorn niet omhoog; spreekt niet met stijven hals.

6 For not from the east, or from the west, Nor from the wilderness—[is] elevation.

Want het verhogen komt niet uit het oosten, noch uit het westen, noch uit de woestijn;

7 But God [is] judging, This He makes low—and this He lifts up.

Maar God is Rechter; Hij vernedert dezen, en verhoogt genen.

8 For a cup [is] in the hand of YHWH, And the wine has foamed, It is full of mixture, and He pours out of it, Surely wring out its dregs, And all the wicked of the earth drink,

Want in des HEEREN hand is een beker, en de wijn is beroerd, vol van mengeling, en Hij schenkt daaruit; doch alle goddelozen der aarde zullen zijn droesemen uitzuigende drinken.

9 And I declare [it] for all time, I sing praise to the God of Jacob.

En ik zal het in eeuwigheid verkondigen; ik zal den God Jakobs psalmzingen.

10 And I cut off all horns of the wicked, The horns of the righteous are exalted!

En ik zal alle hoornen der goddelozen afhouwen; de hoornen des rechtvaardigen zullen verhoogd worden.
