< Proverbs 6 >
1 My son! If you have been guarantor for your friend, Have struck your hand for a stranger,
Yaa ilma ko, ati yoo ollaa keetiif wabii taatee harka dhooftee nama ormaatiif kakatte,
2 Have been snared with sayings of your mouth, Have been captured with sayings of your mouth,
yoo waanuma dubbatteen qabamtee dubbuma afaan keetiitiin kiyyoo seente,
3 Do this now, my son, and be delivered, For you have come into the hand of your friend. Go, trample on yourself, and strengthen your friend,
yoos yaa ilma ko, ati sababii harka ollaa keetii seentee jirtuuf ati of baasuudhaaf dafii dhaqiitii gad of qabii jabeessiitii ollaa kee kadhadhu!
4 Do not give sleep to your eyes, And slumber to your eyelids,
Ija keetiif hirriba, baallee ija keetiitiif immoo mugaatii hin eeyyamin.
5 Be delivered as a roe from the hand, And as a bird from the hand of a fowler.
Ati akkuma kuruphee harka adamsituutii baatuutti, akkuma simbirroo kiyyoo nama ishee qabuu jalaa baatuutti of oolchi.
6 Go to the ant, O slothful one, See her ways and be wise;
Yaa dhibaaʼaa nana mee gara goondaa dhaqi; karaa ishee qalbeeffadhuutii ogeessa taʼi!
7 Which has no captain, overseer, and ruler,
Inni ajajaa hin qabu; toʼataa yookaan bulchaa hin qabu;
8 She prepares her bread in summer, She has gathered her food in harvest.
taʼu illee inni bona keessa nyaata isaa kuufata; yeroo midhaan galfamutti immoo nyaata isaa walitti qabata.
9 Until when, O slothful one, do you lie? When do you arise from your sleep?
Yaa dhibaaʼaa nana, ati hamma yoomiitti ciifta? Ati yoomi hirriba keetii kaata?
10 A little sleep, a little slumber, A little clasping of the hands to rest,
Hirriba xinnaa, mugaatii xinnaa, xinnoo harka walitti marachuu,
11 And your poverty has come as a traveler, And your want as an armed man.
hiyyummaanis akkuma hattuutti sitti dhufa; deegummaanis akkuma loltuu hidhateetti sitti dhufa.
12 A man of worthlessness, a man of iniquity, Walking [with] perverseness of mouth,
Namni rakkisaan, namni hamaan, dubbii sobaatiin asii fi achi naannaʼa;
13 Winking with his eyes, speaking with his feet, Directing with his fingers,
inni ijaan dhaʼa; miilla isaatiinis mallattoo kenna; quba isaatiin argisiisa;
14 Contrariness [is] in his heart, devising evil at all times, He sends forth contentions.
inni garaa isaa isa sobaadhaan hammina yaada; yeroo hundas lola kakaasa.
15 Therefore his calamity comes suddenly, He is broken instantly—and no healing.
Kanaafuu badiisni yommusuma isatti dhufa; inni akkuma tasaa caba; deebiʼees hin fayyu.
16 These six has YHWH hated, Indeed, seven [are] abominations to His soul:
Waaqayyo waan jaʼa jibba; waan torba immoo ni xireeffata; isaanis:
17 High eyes, False tongues, And hands shedding innocent blood,
Ija of tuulu, arraba sobu, harka dhiiga nama balleessaa hin qabnee dhangalaasu,
18 A heart devising thoughts of vanity, Feet hastening to run to evil,
garaa mala hamaa malu, miilla gara jalʼinaatti ariifatu,
19 A false witness [who] breathes out lies, And one sending forth contentions between brothers.
dhuga baatuu sobaa kan soba dhangalaasu, nama obboloota gidduutti lola kakaasuu dha.
20 Keep, my son, the command of your father, And do not leave the law of your mother.
Yaa ilma ko, ajaja abbaa keetii eegi; barsiisa haadha keetii illee hin gatin.
21 Bind them on your heart continually, Tie them on your neck.
Bara baraan garaa keetti qabadhu; morma keettis hidhadhu.
22 In your going up and down, it leads you, In your lying down, it watches over you, And you have awoken—it talks [with] you.
Yeroo ati deemtu isaan si qajeelchu; yeroo ati raftu si eegu; yeroo ati hirribaa kaatu illee si haasofsiisu.
23 For the command [is] a lamp, And the Law a light, And a way of life [are] reproofs of instruction,
Ajajni kun ibsaadhaatii; barsiisni kunis ifa; sirreeffamni amalaa immoo karaa jireenyaa ti;
24 To preserve you from an evil woman, From the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.
isaan dubartii hamtuu irraa, niitii kashlabbee afaan dammaa irraa si eegu.
25 Do not desire her beauty in your heart, And do not let her take you with her eyelids.
Garaa kee keessatti bareedina ishee hin dharraʼin; yookaan akka isheen ija isheetiin si boojitu hin godhin.
26 For a harlot consumes to a cake of bread, And an adulteress hunts the precious soul.
Sagaagaltuun buddeena tokkoon bitamtiitii; ejjituunis jireenyuma kee adamsiti.
27 Does a man take fire into his bosom, And are his garments not burned?
Namni bobaa jalatti ibidda baadhatee wayyaan isaa hin gubanne jiraa?
28 Does a man walk on the hot coals, And are his feet not scorched?
Namni ibidda cilee irra ejjetee miilli isaa hin gubanne jiraa?
29 So [is] he who has gone in to the wife of his neighbor, None who touches her is innocent.
Namni niitii nama biraa wajjin ciisus akkasuma taʼa; namni ishee tuqu kam iyyuu utuu hin adabamin hin hafu.
30 They do not despise the thief, When he steals to fill his soul when he is hungry,
Yoo hattuun tokko beela baʼuuf jedhee hate, namoonni hin tuffatan.
31 And being found he repays sevenfold, He gives all the substance of his house.
Garuu inni yoo qabame dachaa torba baasa; miʼa mana isaa hundas ni kenna.
32 He who commits adultery [with] a woman lacks heart, He who does it is destroying his soul.
Namni sagaagalu qalbii hin qabu; namni waan akkasii hojjetu ofuma galaafata.
33 He finds a stroke and shame, And his reproach is not wiped away,
Qoodni isaa dhaanamuu fi salphachuu dha; qaaniin isaa yoom iyyuu isa irraa hin haqamu.
34 For jealousy [is] the fury of a man, And he does not spare in a day of vengeance.
Hinaaffaan aarii dhirsaa kakaasaatii; inni yeroo haaloo baʼutti dhiifama tokko iyyuu hin godhu.
35 He does not accept the appearance of any atonement, Indeed, he does not consent, Though you multiply bribes!
Inni beenyaa tokko illee hin fudhatu; hammam baayʼatu iyyuu inni mattaʼaa ni dida.
