Proverbs 4
1 Hear, you sons, the instruction of a father, And give attention to know understanding.
Ascoltate, o figli, l'istruzione di un padre e fate attenzione per conoscere la verità,
2 For I have given to you good learning, do not forsake my law.
poiché io vi do una buona dottrina; non abbandonate il mio insegnamento.
3 For I have been a son to my father—tender, And an only one before my mother.
Anch'io sono stato un figlio per mio padre, tenero e caro agli occhi di mia madre.
4 And he directs me, and he says to me: “Let your heart retain my words, Keep my commands, and live.
Egli mi istruiva dicendomi: «Il tuo cuore ritenga le mie parole; custodisci i miei precetti e vivrai.
5 Get wisdom, get understanding, Do not forget, nor turn away From the sayings of my mouth.
Acquista la sapienza, acquista l'intelligenza; non dimenticare le parole della mia bocca e non allontanartene mai.
6 Do not forsake her, and she preserves you, Love her, and she keeps you.
Non abbandonarla ed essa ti custodirà, amala e veglierà su di te.
7 The first thing [is] wisdom—get wisdom, And with all your getting get understanding.
Principio della sapienza: acquista la sapienza; a costo di tutto ciò che possiedi acquista l'intelligenza.
8 Exalt her and she lifts you up, She honors you when you embrace her.
Stimala ed essa ti esalterà, sarà la tua gloria, se l'abbraccerai.
9 She gives a wreath of grace to your head, She gives you a crown of beauty freely.”
Una corona di grazia porrà sul tuo capo, con un diadema di gloria ti cingerà».
10 Hear, my son, and receive my sayings, And years of life [are] multiplied to you.
Ascolta, figlio mio, e accogli le mie parole ed esse moltiplicheranno gli anni della tua vita.
11 I have directed you in a way of wisdom, I have caused you to tread in paths of uprightness.
Ti indico la via della sapienza; ti guido per i sentieri della rettitudine.
12 In your walking your step is not restricted, And if you run, you do not stumble.
Quando cammini non saranno intralciati i tuoi passi, e se corri, non inciamperai.
13 Lay hold on instruction, do not desist, Keep her, for she [is] your life.
Attieniti alla disciplina, non lasciarla, pràticala, perché essa è la tua vita.
14 Do not enter into the path of the wicked, And do not be blessed in a way of evildoers.
Non battere la strada degli empi e non procedere per la via dei malvagi.
15 Avoid it, do not pass over into it, Turn aside from it, and pass on.
Evita quella strada, non passarvi, stà lontano e passa oltre.
16 For they do not sleep if they do no evil, And their sleep has been taken away violently, If they do not cause [some] to stumble.
Essi non dormono, se non fanno del male; non si lasciano prendere dal sonno, se non fanno cadere qualcuno;
17 For they have eaten bread of wickedness, And they drink wine of violence.
mangiano il pane dell'empietà e bevono il vino della violenza.
18 And the path of the righteous [is] as a shining light, Going and brightening until the day is established,
La strada dei giusti è come la luce dell'alba, che aumenta lo splendore fino al meriggio.
19 The way of the wicked [is] as darkness, They have not known at what they stumble.
La via degli empi è come l'oscurità: non sanno dove saranno spinti a cadere.
20 My son, give attention to my words, Incline your ear to my sayings,
Figlio mio, fà attenzione alle mie parole, porgi l'orecchio ai miei detti;
21 Do not let them turn aside from your eyes, Preserve them in the midst of your heart.
non perderli mai di vista, custodiscili nel tuo cuore,
22 For they [are] life to those finding them, And healing to all their flesh.
perché essi sono vita per chi li trova e salute per tutto il suo corpo.
23 Above every charge keep your heart, For out of it [are] the outgoings of life.
Con ogni cura vigila sul cuore perché da esso sgorga la vita.
24 Turn aside a contrary mouth from you, And put perverse lips far from you,
Tieni lungi da te la bocca perversa e allontana da te le labbra fallaci.
25 Your eyes look straightforward, And your eyelids look straight before you.
I tuoi occhi guardino diritto e le tue pupille mirino diritto davanti a te.
26 Ponder the path of your feet, And all your ways [are] established.
Bada alla strada dove metti il piede e tutte le tue vie siano ben rassodate.
27 Do not incline [to] the right or to the left, Turn aside your foot from evil!
Non deviare né a destra né a sinistra, tieni lontano il piede dal male.
