Proverbs 31
1 Words of Lemuel, a king, a declaration that his mother taught him:
Parole di Lemuèl, re di Massa, che sua madre gli insegnò.
2 “What, my son? And what, son of my womb? And what, son of my vows?
E che, figlio mio! E che, figlio delle mie viscere! E che, figlio dei miei voti!
3 Do not give your strength to women, And your ways to wiping away of kings.
Non dare il tuo vigore alle donne, né i tuoi costumi a quelle che corrompono i re.
4 [It is] not for kings, O Lemuel, Not for kings, to drink wine, And for princes—a desire of strong drink.
Non conviene ai re, Lemuèl, non conviene ai re bere il vino, né ai principi bramare bevande inebrianti,
5 Lest he drink, and forget the decree, And change the judgment of any of the sons of affliction.
per paura che, bevendo, dimentichino i loro decreti e tradiscano il diritto di tutti gli afflitti.
6 Give strong drink to the perishing, And wine to the bitter in soul,
Date bevande inebrianti a chi sta per perire e il vino a chi ha l'amarezza nel cuore.
7 He drinks, and forgets his poverty, And he does not remember his misery again.
Beva e dimentichi la sua povertà e non si ricordi più delle sue pene.
8 Open your mouth for the mute, For the right of all sons of change.
Apri la bocca in favore del muto in difesa di tutti gli sventurati.
9 Open your mouth, judge righteously, Both the cause of the poor and needy!”
Apri la bocca e giudica con equità e rendi giustizia all'infelice e al povero.
10 [ALEPH-BET] A woman of worth who finds? Indeed, her price [is] far above rubies.
Una donna perfetta chi potrà trovarla? Ben superiore alle perle è il suo valore.
11 The heart of her husband has trusted in her, And he does not lack spoil.
In lei confida il cuore del marito e non verrà a mancargli il profitto.
12 She has done him good, and not evil, All [the] days of her life.
Essa gli dà felicità e non dispiacere per tutti i giorni della sua vita.
13 She has sought wool and flax, And with delight she works [with] her hands.
Si procura lana e lino e li lavora volentieri con le mani.
14 She has been as ships of the merchant, She brings in her bread from afar.
Ella è simile alle navi di un mercante, fa venire da lontano le provviste.
15 Indeed, she rises while yet night, And gives food to her household, And a portion to her girls.
Si alza quando ancora è notte e prepara il cibo alla sua famiglia e dà ordini alle sue domestiche.
16 She has considered a field, and takes it, She has planted a vineyard from the fruit of her hands.
Pensa ad un campo e lo compra e con il frutto delle sue mani pianta una vigna.
17 She has girded her loins with might, And strengthens her arms.
Si cinge con energia i fianchi e spiega la forza delle sue braccia.
18 She has perceived when her merchandise [is] good, Her lamp is not extinguished in the night.
E' soddisfatta, perché il suo traffico va bene, neppure di notte si spegne la sua lucerna.
19 She has sent forth her hands on a spindle, And her hands have held a distaff.
Stende la sua mano alla conocchia e mena il fuso con le dita.
20 She has spread forth her hand to the poor, Indeed, she sent forth her hands to the needy.
Apre le sue mani al misero, stende la mano al povero.
21 She is not afraid of her household from snow, For all her household are clothed [with] scarlet.
Non teme la neve per la sua famiglia, perché tutti i suoi di casa hanno doppia veste.
22 She has made ornamental coverings for herself, Silk and purple [are] her clothing.
Si fa delle coperte, di lino e di porpora sono le sue vesti.
23 Her husband is known in the gates, In his sitting with [the] elderly of [the] land.
Suo marito è stimato alle porte della città dove siede con gli anziani del paese.
24 She has made linen garments, and sells, And she has given a girdle to the merchant.
Confeziona tele di lino e le vende e fornisce cinture al mercante.
25 Strength and honor [are] her clothing, And she rejoices at a latter day.
Forza e decoro sono il suo vestito e se la ride dell'avvenire.
26 She has opened her mouth in wisdom, And the law of kindness [is] on her tongue.
Apre la bocca con saggezza e sulla sua lingua c'è dottrina di bontà.
27 She [is] watching the ways of her household, And she does not eat bread of sloth.
Sorveglia l'andamento della casa; il pane che mangia non è frutto di pigrizia.
28 Her sons have risen up, and pronounce her blessed, Her husband, and he praises her,
I suoi figli sorgono a proclamarla beata e suo marito a farne l'elogio:
29 “The daughters who have done worthily [are] many, You have gone up above them all.”
«Molte figlie hanno compiuto cose eccellenti, ma tu le hai superate tutte!».
30 Favor [is] deceitful, and beauty [is] vain, A woman fearing YHWH, she may boast herself.
Fallace è la grazia e vana è la bellezza, ma la donna che teme Dio è da lodare.
31 Give to her of the fruit of her hands, And her works praise her in the gates!
Datele del frutto delle sue mani e le sue stesse opere la lodino alle porte della città.
