Proverbs 20
1 Wine [is] a scorner—strong drink [is] noisy, And any going astray in it is not wise.
१द्राक्षरस चेष्टा करणारा आहे आणि मादक पेय भांडखोर आहे; पिण्याने झिंगणारा शहाणा नाही.
2 The fear of a king [is] a growl as of a young lion, He who is causing him to be angry is wronging his soul.
२राजाचा राग सिंहगर्जनेसारखा असतो; जो त्यास राग आणतो तो आपल्याच जीवाविरूद्ध पाप करतो.
3 Cessation from strife is an honor to a man, And every fool interferes.
३जो कोणी भांडण टाळतो त्यास आदर आहे, पण प्रत्येक मूर्ख वादविवादात उडी मारतो.
4 The slothful does not plow because of winter, He asks in harvest, and there is nothing.
४आळशी मनुष्य हिवाळा लागल्यामुळे नांगरीत नाही, तो हंगामाच्या वेळी पिक शोधेल पण त्यास काहीही मिळणार नाही.
5 Counsel in the heart of a man [is] deep water, And a man of understanding draws it up.
५मनुष्याच्या मनातील योजना खोल पाण्यासारख्या असतात; पण समजदार मनुष्य त्या बाहेर काढतो.
6 A multitude of men each proclaim his kindness, And a man of steadfastness who finds?
६बरेच व्यक्ती विश्वासू असल्याची घोषणा करतात, पण जो कोणी विश्वासू आहे त्या व्यक्तीस कोण शोधून काढेल? पण खरोखरच असा व्यक्ती सापडणे कठीण असते.
7 The righteous is habitually walking in his integrity, O the blessedness of his sons after him!
७जो कोणी मनुष्य चांगले करतो त्याच्या प्रामाणिकतेने चालतो, आणि त्याच्या मागे त्याची मुले त्यास अनुसरतात आणि ते सुखी होतात.
8 A king sitting on a throne of judgment, Is scattering all evil with his eyes,
८जेव्हा राजा राजासनावर बसून न्यायनिवाड्याचे कार्य करतो, तो आपल्या डोळ्यांनी सर्व वाईट गोष्टी उडवून टाकतो.
9 Who says, “I have purified my heart, I have been cleansed from my sin?”

10 A stone and a stone, an ephah and an ephah, Even both of them [are] an abomination to YHWH.
१०भिन्नभिन्न अशी खोटी वजने आणि असमान मापे, या दोन्हींचा परमेश्वरास तिरस्कार आहे.
11 Even by his actions a youth makes himself known, Whether his work is pure or upright.
११तरुणसुध्दा आपल्या कृतीने आपली वर्तणूक शुद्ध आणि सरळ आहे की नाही ते दाखवतो.
12 A hearing ear, and a seeing eye—YHWH has even made both of them.
१२ऐकणारे कान आणि बघणारे डोळे, हे दोन्ही परमेश्वरानेच केले आहेत.
13 Do not love sleep, lest you become poor, Open your eyes—be satisfied [with] bread.
१३झोपेची आवड धरू नकोस, धरशील तर दरिद्री होशील; आपले डोळे उघड आणि तुला भरपूर खायला मिळेल.
14 “Bad, bad,” says the buyer, And then he boasts himself going his way.
१४विकत घेणारा म्हणतो, वाईट! वाईट! परंतु जेव्हा तो तेथून निघून जातो तो फुशारकी मारतो.
15 Substance, gold, and a multitude of rubies, Indeed, a precious vessel, [are] lips of knowledge.
१५तेथे सोने आहे आणि विपुल किंमती खडे आहेत, पण ज्ञानमय वाणी मोलवान रत्न आहेत.
16 When a stranger has been guarantor, take his garment, And pledge it for strangers.
१६जो अनोळख्याला जामीन राहतो त्याचे वस्त्र ठेवून घे, जेव्हा तो परक्यास जामीन झाला आहे म्हणून त्यास तारणादाखल ठेव.
17 The bread of falsehood [is] sweet to a man, And afterward his mouth is filled [with] gravel.
१७कपटाची भाकर गोड लागते, पण त्यानंतर त्याचे तोंड सर्व वाळूंनी भरेल.
18 You establish purposes by counsel, And with plans you make war.
१८सल्ल्याद्वारे योजना प्रस्थापित होतात, म्हणून केवळ ज्ञानाच्या मार्गदर्शनाने लढाई चालू कर.
19 The busybody is a revealer of secret counsels, And do not make yourself guarantor for a deceiver [with] his lips.
१९लावालावी करणारा गुप्त गोष्टी प्रगट करतो, म्हणून बडबड करणाऱ्यांची संगत धरू नकोस.
20 Whoever is vilifying his father and his mother, his lamp is extinguished in blackness of darkness.
२०जर एखादा मनुष्य आपल्या आईला किंवा वडिलांना शाप देईल, तर त्याचा दीप अंधारात विझून जाईल.
21 An inheritance gotten wrongly at first, Even its latter end is not blessed.
२१सुरवातीला उतावळीने मिळवलेल्या संपत्तीचा शेवट आशीर्वादित होणार नाही.
22 Do not say, “I repay evil,” Wait for YHWH, and He delivers you.
२२मी चुकीच्या बदल्यात परतफेड करीन असे म्हणू नकोस, परमेश्वराची वाट पाहा आणि तो तुझे रक्षण करील.
23 A stone and a stone [are] an abomination to YHWH, And balances of deceit [are] not good.
२३असमान वजनाचा परमेश्वरास तिरस्कार आहे आणि अप्रामाणिक तराजू चांगले नाही.
24 The steps of a man [are] from YHWH, And man—how does he understand his way?
२४मनुष्याच्या पावलास परमेश्वर वाट दाखवतो. तर कोणत्या मार्गाने जावे हे त्यास कसे कळेल?
25 A snare to a man [that] he has swallowed a holy thing, And to make inquiry after vows.
२५हे पवित्र आहे असे उतावळीने म्हणणे व असला नवस केल्यावर मग विचार करीत बसणे हे मनुष्याने पाशात पडणे होय.
26 A wise king is scattering the wicked, And turns the wheel back on them.
२६सुज्ञ राजा दुष्टांना पाखडून टाकतो, आणि मळणी करण्याचे चक्र त्यांच्यावर फिरवतो.
27 The breath of man [is] a lamp of YHWH, Searching all the inner parts of the heart.
२७मनुष्याचा आत्मा परमेश्वराचा दीप होय, तो त्याच्या अंतर्यामाच्या सर्व भागांचा शोध घेतो.
28 Kindness and truth keep a king, And he has supported his throne by kindness.
२८कराराचा प्रामाणिपणा आणि विश्वसनियता राजाचे रक्षण करतात, तो प्रेमाने राजासन बळकट करतो.
29 The beauty of young men is their strength, And the honor of old men is grey hairs.
२९तरुण मनुष्याचे वैभव त्याचे बळ आहे. आणि पिकलेले केस वृद्धाचे सौंदर्य आहे.
30 Blows that wound cleanse away evil, Also the scourges of the inner parts of the heart!
३०जखम करणारे घाय आणि वर्मी लागणारे फटके दुष्टतेचे क्षालन करतात.
