Proverbs 20
1 Wine [is] a scorner—strong drink [is] noisy, And any going astray in it is not wise.
१दाखमधु ठट्ठा करनेवाला और मदिरा हल्ला मचानेवाली है; जो कोई उसके कारण चूक करता है, वह बुद्धिमान नहीं।
2 The fear of a king [is] a growl as of a young lion, He who is causing him to be angry is wronging his soul.
२राजा का क्रोध, जवान सिंह के गर्जन समान है; जो उसको रोष दिलाता है वह अपना प्राण खो देता है।
3 Cessation from strife is an honor to a man, And every fool interferes.
३मुकद्दमे से हाथ उठाना, पुरुष की महिमा ठहरती है; परन्तु सब मूर्ख झगड़ने को तैयार होते हैं।
4 The slothful does not plow because of winter, He asks in harvest, and there is nothing.
४आलसी मनुष्य शीत के कारण हल नहीं जोतता; इसलिए कटनी के समय वह भीख माँगता, और कुछ नहीं पाता।
5 Counsel in the heart of a man [is] deep water, And a man of understanding draws it up.
५मनुष्य के मन की युक्ति अथाह तो है, तो भी समझवाला मनुष्य उसको निकाल लेता है।
6 A multitude of men each proclaim his kindness, And a man of steadfastness who finds?
६बहुत से मनुष्य अपनी निष्ठा का प्रचार करते हैं; परन्तु सच्चा व्यक्ति कौन पा सकता है?
7 The righteous is habitually walking in his integrity, O the blessedness of his sons after him!
७वह व्यक्ति जो अपनी सत्यनिष्ठा पर चलता है, उसके पुत्र जो उसके पीछे चलते हैं, वे धन्य हैं।
8 A king sitting on a throne of judgment, Is scattering all evil with his eyes,
८राजा जो न्याय के सिंहासन पर बैठा करता है, वह अपनी दृष्टि ही से सब बुराई को छाँट लेता है।
9 Who says, “I have purified my heart, I have been cleansed from my sin?”
९कौन कह सकता है कि मैंने अपने हृदय को पवित्र किया; अथवा मैं पाप से शुद्ध हुआ हूँ?
10 A stone and a stone, an ephah and an ephah, Even both of them [are] an abomination to YHWH.
१०घटते-बढ़ते बटखरे और घटते-बढ़ते नपुए इन दोनों से यहोवा घृणा करता है।
11 Even by his actions a youth makes himself known, Whether his work is pure or upright.
११लड़का भी अपने कामों से पहचाना जाता है, कि उसका काम पवित्र और सीधा है, या नहीं।
12 A hearing ear, and a seeing eye—YHWH has even made both of them.
१२सुनने के लिये कान और देखने के लिये जो आँखें हैं, उन दोनों को यहोवा ने बनाया है।
13 Do not love sleep, lest you become poor, Open your eyes—be satisfied [with] bread.
१३नींद से प्रीति न रख, नहीं तो दरिद्र हो जाएगा; आँखें खोल तब तू रोटी से तृप्त होगा।
14 “Bad, bad,” says the buyer, And then he boasts himself going his way.
१४मोल लेने के समय ग्राहक, “अच्छी नहीं, अच्छी नहीं,” कहता है; परन्तु चले जाने पर बढ़ाई करता है।
15 Substance, gold, and a multitude of rubies, Indeed, a precious vessel, [are] lips of knowledge.
१५सोना और बहुत से बहुमूल्य रत्न तो हैं; परन्तु ज्ञान की बातें अनमोल मणि ठहरी हैं।
16 When a stranger has been guarantor, take his garment, And pledge it for strangers.
१६किसी अनजान के लिए जमानत देनेवाले के वस्त्र ले और पराए के प्रति जो उत्तरदायी हुआ है उससे बँधक की वस्तु ले रख।
17 The bread of falsehood [is] sweet to a man, And afterward his mouth is filled [with] gravel.
१७छल-कपट से प्राप्त रोटी मनुष्य को मीठी तो लगती है, परन्तु बाद में उसका मुँह कंकड़ों से भर जाता है।
18 You establish purposes by counsel, And with plans you make war.
१८सब कल्पनाएँ सम्मति ही से स्थिर होती हैं; और युक्ति के साथ युद्ध करना चाहिये।
19 The busybody is a revealer of secret counsels, And do not make yourself guarantor for a deceiver [with] his lips.
१९जो लुतराई करता फिरता है वह भेद प्रगट करता है; इसलिए बकवादी से मेल जोल न रखना।
20 Whoever is vilifying his father and his mother, his lamp is extinguished in blackness of darkness.
२०जो अपने माता-पिता को कोसता, उसका दिया बुझ जाता, और घोर अंधकार हो जाता है।
21 An inheritance gotten wrongly at first, Even its latter end is not blessed.
२१जो भाग पहले उतावली से मिलता है, अन्त में उस पर आशीष नहीं होती।
22 Do not say, “I repay evil,” Wait for YHWH, and He delivers you.
२२मत कह, “मैं बुराई का बदला लूँगा;” वरन् यहोवा की बाट जोहता रह, वह तुझको छुड़ाएगा।
23 A stone and a stone [are] an abomination to YHWH, And balances of deceit [are] not good.
२३घटते-बढ़ते बटखरों से यहोवा घृणा करता है, और छल का तराजू अच्छा नहीं।
24 The steps of a man [are] from YHWH, And man—how does he understand his way?
२४मनुष्य का मार्ग यहोवा की ओर से ठहराया जाता है; मनुष्य अपना मार्ग कैसे समझ सकेगा?
25 A snare to a man [that] he has swallowed a holy thing, And to make inquiry after vows.
२५जो मनुष्य बिना विचारे किसी वस्तु को पवित्र ठहराए, और जो मन्नत मानकर पूछपाछ करने लगे, वह फंदे में फँसेगा।
26 A wise king is scattering the wicked, And turns the wheel back on them.
२६बुद्धिमान राजा दुष्टों को फटकता है, और उन पर दाँवने का पहिया चलवाता है।
27 The breath of man [is] a lamp of YHWH, Searching all the inner parts of the heart.
२७मनुष्य की आत्मा यहोवा का दीपक है; वह मन की सब बातों की खोज करता है।
28 Kindness and truth keep a king, And he has supported his throne by kindness.
२८राजा की रक्षा कृपा और सच्चाई के कारण होती है, और कृपा करने से उसकी गद्दी सम्भलती है।
29 The beauty of young men is their strength, And the honor of old men is grey hairs.
२९जवानों का गौरव उनका बल है, परन्तु बूढ़ों की शोभा उनके पक्के बाल हैं।
30 Blows that wound cleanse away evil, Also the scourges of the inner parts of the heart!
३०चोट लगने से जो घाव होते हैं, वे बुराई दूर करते हैं; और मार खाने से हृदय निर्मल हो जाता है।
