Proverbs 17
1 Better [is] a dry morsel, and rest with it, Than a house full of the sacrifices of strife.
Mai bine o bucată de pâine uscată și liniște cu ea, decât o casă plină de carnea sacrificiilor cu ceartă.
2 A wise servant rules over a son causing shame, And he apportions an inheritance in the midst of brothers.
Un servitor înțelept va conduce peste un fiu care aduce rușine și va avea parte de moștenire între frați.
3 A refining pot [is] for silver, and a furnace for gold, And the trier of hearts [is] YHWH.
Creuzetul este pentru argint și cuptorul pentru aur, dar DOMNUL încearcă inimile.
4 An evildoer is attentive to lips of vanity, Falsehood is giving ear to a mischievous tongue.
Un făptuitor al stricăciunii dă atenție buzelor înșelătoare, și un mincinos deschide urechea la o limbă rea.
5 Whoever is mocking at the poor Has reproached his Maker, Whoever is rejoicing at calamity is not acquitted.
Oricine batjocorește pe sărac ocărăște pe Făcătorul său, și cel care se bucură la dezastre nu va rămâne nepedepsit.
6 Sons’ sons [are] the crown of old men, And the glory of sons [are] their fathers.
Copiii copiilor sunt coroana bătrânilor și gloria copiilor sunt părinții lor.
7 A lip of excellence is not fitting for a fool, much less a lip of falsehood for a noble.
Prostului nu i se potrivește o vorbire aleasă; cu atât mai puțin buze mincinoase unui prinț.
8 A stone of grace [is] the bribe in the eyes of its possessors, Wherever it turns, it prospers.
Un dar este asemenea unei pietre prețioase în ochii celui ce îl are; oriîncotro se întoarce, prosperă.
9 Whoever is covering transgression is seeking love, And whoever is repeating a matter Is separating a familiar friend.
Cel ce acoperă o fărădelege caută iubire, dar cel ce tot repetă un lucru separă prieteni buni.
10 Rebuke comes down on the intelligent More than one hundred stripes on a fool.
O mustrare își găsește loc mult mai adânc la un om înțelept, decât o sută de lovituri la un prost.
11 An evil man seeks only rebellion, And a fierce messenger is sent against him.
Un om care face rău caută numai rebeliune; de aceea împotriva lui va fi trimis un mesager crud.
12 The meeting of a bereaved bear by a man, And—not a fool in his folly.
Mai bine să întâlnească un om o ursoaică jefuită de puii ei, decât un prost în nechibzuința lui.
13 Whoever is returning evil for good, Evil does not move from his house.
Oricine răsplătește cu rău pentru bine, răul nu se va depărta de casa lui.
14 The beginning of contention [is] a letting out of waters, And leave the strife before it is meddled with.
Începutul certei este ca atunci când cineva dă drumul la ape; de aceea părăsește cearta înainte să fii amestecat în ea.
15 Whoever is justifying the wicked, And condemning the righteous, Even both of these [are] an abomination to YHWH.
Cel ce declară drept pe cel stricat și cel ce condamnă pe cel drept, chiar amândoi sunt urâciune pentru DOMNUL.
16 Why [is] this—a price in the hand of a fool to buy wisdom, And a heart—there is none?
La ce folosește un preț în mâna unui prost pentru a obține înțelepciune, văzând că nu are inimă pentru aceasta?
17 The friend is loving at all times, And a brother is born for adversity.
Un prieten iubește în toate timpurile, și un frate este născut pentru timpuri de restriște.
18 A man lacking heart is striking hands, He becomes a guarantor before his friend.
Un om lipsit de înțelegere bate palma și devine garant în prezența prietenilor săi.
19 Whoever is loving transgression is loving debate, Whoever is making his entrance high is seeking destruction.
Cel ce iubește cearta iubește fărădelegea, și cel ce își înalță poarta caută distrugere.
20 The perverse of heart does not find good, And the [one] turned in his tongue falls into evil.
Cel ce are o inimă perversă nu găsește niciun bine, și cel ce are o limbă perversă cade în ticăloșie.
21 Whoever is begetting a fool has affliction for it, Indeed, the father of a fool does not rejoice.
Cel ce dă naștere unui prost face aceasta spre întristarea lui, și tatăl unui nebun nu are bucurie.
22 A rejoicing heart does good to the body, And a struck spirit dries the bone.
O inimă veselă face bine ca un medicament, dar un duh frânt usucă oasele.
23 The wicked takes a bribe from the bosom, To turn aside the paths of judgment.
Un om stricat ia un dar din sân ca să strice căile judecății.
24 The face of the intelligent [is] to wisdom, And the eyes of a fool—at the end of the earth.
Înțelepciune este înaintea celui ce are înțelegere, dar ochii unui prost sunt ațintiți la marginile pământului.
25 A foolish son [is] a provocation to his father, And bitterness to her bearing him.
Un fiu prost este o mâhnire pentru tatăl său și amărăciune pentru cea care l-a născut.
26 Also, [it] is not good to fine the righteous, To strike nobles for uprightness.
De asemenea să pedepsești pe cel drept nu este bine, nici să lovești pe prinți pentru echitate.
27 One acquainted with knowledge is sparing his words, And the cool of temper [is] a man of understanding.
Cel ce are cunoaștere își cruță cuvintele, și un om al înțelegerii are un duh ales.
28 Even a fool keeping silence is reckoned wise, He who is shutting his lips [seems] intelligent!
Chiar un nebun este considerat înțelept când își ține gura, și cel ce își închide buzele ca om chibzuit.
