1 Better [is] a dry morsel, and rest with it, Than a house full of the sacrifices of strife.

2 A wise servant rules over a son causing shame, And he apportions an inheritance in the midst of brothers.

3 A refining pot [is] for silver, and a furnace for gold, And the trier of hearts [is] YHWH.
Sumkanglung tui pacii hanah laom to patoh baktih toengah, sui tui pacii hanah hmai kamngaeh to patoh; toe Angraeng loe kami ih palung to tanoem.
4 An evildoer is attentive to lips of vanity, Falsehood is giving ear to a mischievous tongue.
Kahoih ai hmuen sah kami loe lok amlai kami mah thuih ih lok to tang; amsawnlok thui kami doeh loksae to tahngaih.
5 Whoever is mocking at the poor Has reproached his Maker, Whoever is rejoicing at calamity is not acquitted.
Mithoe hnaphnae kami loe anih Sahkung hnaphnae kami ah ni oh; minawk raihaih tong naah anghoe kami loe danpaekhaih to loih mak ai.
6 Sons’ sons [are] the crown of old men, And the glory of sons [are] their fathers.
Caanawk ih caa patoeng loe mitongnawk hanah sui lumuek ah oh, amno ampa loe caanawk lensawkhaih ah oh.
7 A lip of excellence is not fitting for a fool, much less a lip of falsehood for a noble.
Kahoih lok loe kamthu hoi amcuk ai baktih toengah, amsawnlok doeh ukkung angraeng hoi amcuk ai.
8 A stone of grace [is] the bribe in the eyes of its possessors, Wherever it turns, it prospers.
Tangqum loe hak kami hanah atho kana thlung baktiah oh; a caehhaih ahmuen kruekah, tahamhoihaih oh.
9 Whoever is covering transgression is seeking love, And whoever is repeating a matter Is separating a familiar friend.
Minawk zaehaih tahmen kami loe amlunghaih to pungsak; toe zaehaih tahmen ai kami loe ampui to ampraeksak.
10 Rebuke comes down on the intelligent More than one hundred stripes on a fool.
Kamthu loe quiboeng hoi cumvaito boh cadoeh poek amkhrai mak ai; palungha loe thuitaekhaih lok to thaih kop.
11 An evil man seeks only rebellion, And a fierce messenger is sent against him.
Kahoih ai kami loe lokaek han khue ni pakrong; to pongah tahmenhaih tawn ai laicaeh to anih khaeah patoeh tih.
12 The meeting of a bereaved bear by a man, And—not a fool in his folly.
Palungkraeng kamthu khaeah caeh moe, raihaih tong pongah loe, taqom caa lomh pae to hoih kue.
13 Whoever is returning evil for good, Evil does not move from his house.
Hmuenhoih to hmuensae hoiah pathok kami loe, kahoih ai hmuen mah a im to caehtaak mak ai.
14 The beginning of contention [is] a letting out of waters, And leave the strife before it is meddled with.
Angzoehhaih loe kamsah tui hoiah anghmong; to pongah angzoehhaih om ai naah to hmuen to toengh sut ah.
15 Whoever is justifying the wicked, And condemning the righteous, Even both of these [are] an abomination to YHWH.
Zaehaih sah kami to loisak lat kami, to tih ai boeh loe katoeng kami zaehaih net lat kami hnik to Angraeng mah panuet hmaek.
16 Why [is] this—a price in the hand of a fool to buy wisdom, And a heart—there is none?
Kamthu loe palunghahaih koeh ai pongah, kamthu ban ah paek ih phoisa loe tih atho maw oh?
17 The friend is loving at all times, And a brother is born for adversity.
Ampui loe amlunghaih tawnh poe; nawkamya loe karai tonghaih atue nathuem han ih ni tapen.
18 A man lacking heart is striking hands, He becomes a guarantor before his friend.
Poekhaih tawn ai kami loe coi ih phoisa to pathok pae hanah, angmah ih ampui hmaa ah lokkamhaih to sak.
19 Whoever is loving transgression is loving debate, Whoever is making his entrance high is seeking destruction.
Angzoeh koeh kami loe zae sakhaih doeh koeh; angmah ih khongkha amoek haih kami loe amrohaih ni pakrong.
20 The perverse of heart does not find good, And the [one] turned in his tongue falls into evil.
Poektoeng ai kami loe khosak hoihaih tawn ai; amsawnlok thui palai loe raihaih tongh.
21 Whoever is begetting a fool has affliction for it, Indeed, the father of a fool does not rejoice.
Kamthu tapen kami loe tapenkung to palungsetsak; kamthu ih ampa loe anghoehaih tawn ai.
22 A rejoicing heart does good to the body, And a struck spirit dries the bone.
Poeknawmhaih loe kahoih tasi ah oh; toe palungsethaih mah ahuh to zaeksak.
23 The wicked takes a bribe from the bosom, To turn aside the paths of judgment.
Kasae kami loe toenghaih loklam angkawnsak hanah, bokhaih ah paek ih tangqum to lak.
24 The face of the intelligent [is] to wisdom, And the eyes of a fool—at the end of the earth.
Palungha kami loe panoekhaih to tawnh; toe kamthu ih mik loe long boenghaih khoek to khet parui.
25 A foolish son [is] a provocation to his father, And bitterness to her bearing him.
Capa kamthu mah ampa palungsetsak, anih cunkung to palungboengsak.
26 Also, [it] is not good to fine the righteous, To strike nobles for uprightness.
Katoeng kami to danpaek han hoih ai; toenghaih hoiah lokcaek angraeng doeh danpaek han om ai.
27 One acquainted with knowledge is sparing his words, And the cool of temper [is] a man of understanding.
Palungha kami loe poek het pacoengah ni lok to thuih; panoekhaih tawn kami loe angam duem.
28 Even a fool keeping silence is reckoned wise, He who is shutting his lips [seems] intelligent!
Lokpae ai ah om duem kami loe, kamthu mataeng doeh palungha kami ah poek o moe, palai angsum thaih kami doeh khopoek thaih kami ah poek o.
