< Proverbs 13 >
1 A wise son—the instruction of a father, And a scorner—he has not heard rebuke.
Yon pitit gason ki gen bon konprann ap koute lè papa l' ap rale zòrèy li. Men, moun k'ap pase moun nan betiz p'ap janm koute lè y'ap fè l' obsèvasyon pou korije l'.
2 A man eats good from the fruit of the mouth, And the soul of the treacherous—violence.
Rekonpans yon moun chita sou sa li di ak bouch li. Men, moun ki ipokrit renmen fè mechanste.
3 Whoever is keeping his mouth, is keeping his soul, Whoever is opening wide his lips—ruin to him!
Veye pawòl ki soti nan bouch ou, w'a pwoteje lavi ou. Moun k'ap prese louvri bouch yo pale ap detwi pwòp tèt yo.
4 The soul of the slothful is desiring, and does not have. And the soul of the diligent is made fat.
Parese p'ap janm jwenn sa yo ta renmen genyen. Men, moun k'ap travay di ap jwenn tou sa yo ta renmen genyen.
5 The righteous hates a false word, And the wicked causes abhorrence, and is confounded.
Moun k'ap mache dwat pa vle wè moun k'ap bay manti. Men, sa mechan yo ap fè a se yon wont, se yon dezonè pou tèt yo.
6 Righteousness keeps him who is perfect in the way, And wickedness overthrows a sin offering.
Men, peche lakòz mechan yo disparèt.
7 There is [he] who is making himself rich, and has nothing, Who is making himself poor, and wealth [is] abundant.
8 The ransom of a man’s life [are] his riches, And the poor has not heard rebuke.
Yon moun rich sèvi ak lajan l' pou l' sove lavi l'. Moun ki pòv pa vle tande lè w'ap rele dèyè l'.
9 The light of the righteous rejoices, And the lamp of the wicked is extinguished.
Moun k'ap mache dwat yo tankou lanp k'ap klere byen klere. Men, mechan yo tankou yon lanp ki prèt pou mouri.
10 A vain man causes debate through pride, And wisdom [is] with the counseled.
Moun awogan yo toujou ap pouse dife.
11 Wealth from vanity becomes little, And whoever is gathering by the hand becomes great.
Lajan ou fè fasil pa lwen fini. Lajan ou fè nan di ap toujou fè pitit.
12 Hope prolonged is making the heart sick, And a tree of life [is] the coming desire.
Lè ou pa jwenn sa ou t'ap tann lan, se bagay ki pou fè ou malad. Men, lè ou jwenn sa ou te anvi a, se lavi pou ou.
13 Whoever is despising the word is destroyed for it, And whoever is fearing the command is repaid.
Men, moun ki fè sa lalwa mande yo fè a ap jwenn rekonpans yo.
14 The law of the wise [is] a fountain of life, To turn aside from snares of death.
L'ap ede ou pou ou pa tonbe lè lavi ou an danje.
15 Good understanding gives grace, And the way of the treacherous [is] hard.
16 Every prudent one deals with knowledge, And a fool spreads out folly.
Tout moun ki gen konprann kalkile byen anvan yo fè yon bagay. Men, moun san konprann yo ap fè ou wè jan yo sòt.
17 A wicked messenger falls into evil, And a faithful ambassador is healing.
Yon move komisyonè ap mete moun nan ka. Men, yon komisyonè serye ap bay moun kè poze.
18 Whoever is refusing instruction—poverty and shame, And whoever is observing reproof is honored.
Yon moun ki refize aprann ap toujou pòv, l'ap toujou wont. Men, y'ap respekte moun ki koute lè yo rale zòrèy yo.
19 A desire accomplished is sweet to the soul, And an abomination to fools [Is] to turn from evil.
Ala bon sa bon lè ou jwenn sa ou te anvi a! Moun san konprann derefize kite move chemen yo pran an.
20 Whoever is walking with wise men is wise, And a companion of fools suffers evil.
Fè zanmi ak moun ki gen konesans, ou menm tou w'a vin gen konesans. Fè zanmi ak moun ki san konprann, ou nan pwoblèm.
21 Evil pursues sinners, And good repays the righteous.
Malè ap pousib moun k'ap fè sa ki mal. Men, moun ki mache dwat ap jwenn bon rekonpans.
22 A good man causes sons’ sons to inherit, And the sinner’s wealth [is] laid up for the righteous.
Yon moun ki gen bon kè ap kite byen pou pitit pitit li. Men, richès moun k'ap fè sa ki mal, se moun ki mache dwat yo k'ap jwi li.
23 Abundance of food—the tillage of the poor, And substance is consumed without judgment.
Jaden malere bay kont manje. Men, lenjistis fè l' mouri grangou.
24 Whoever is sparing his rod is hating his son, And whoever is loving him has hurried his discipline.
Si ou pè bat pitit gason ou, ou pa renmen l'. Si ou renmen l', se pou ou korije l'.
25 The righteous is eating to the satiety of his soul, And the belly of the wicked lacks!
Moun k'ap mache dwat toujou gen ase pou yo manje. Men, vant mechan yo pa janm plen.
