< Proverbs 13 >
1 A wise son—the instruction of a father, And a scorner—he has not heard rebuke.
Capa lungkaang ni teh na pa e cangkhainae hah alawkpui lah a ta, hatei kadudamnaw ni teh cangkhainae hah ngai awh hoeh.
2 A man eats good from the fruit of the mouth, And the soul of the treacherous—violence.
Tami ni amae pahnipaw hah kahawicalah a ca han, hatei yuemkamcu hoeh e tami teh rektapnae hoi a kâkawk han.
3 Whoever is keeping his mouth, is keeping his soul, Whoever is opening wide his lips—ruin to him!
A pahni ka ring e ni teh a hringnae hah a ring toe, hatei ka kaw lah a kâko ka ang e teh rawknae koe a pha han.
4 The soul of the slothful is desiring, and does not have. And the soul of the diligent is made fat.
Tami pangaknaw ni teh a ngai poung awh ei banghai tawn awh hoeh, hatei tami kahratbat e teh tawnta sak lah ao han.
5 The righteous hates a false word, And the wicked causes abhorrence, and is confounded.
Tamikalan ni teh laithoe dei e a hmuhma, hatei tamikathout teh panuet ka tho e hoi kayanae kaphawtkung doeh.
6 Righteousness keeps him who is perfect in the way, And wickedness overthrows a sin offering.
Toun han kaawm hoeh e lamthung ni lannae a ring, hatei thoenae ni tamikayon a tâkhawng.
7 There is [he] who is making himself rich, and has nothing, Who is making himself poor, and wealth [is] abundant.
Tami ka tawnta lah a kâpouk ei banghai ka tawn hoeh e tami ao, hatei kamathoe poung lah a kâpouk ei ka tawnta poung e ao.
8 The ransom of a man’s life [are] his riches, And the poor has not heard rebuke.
Tami ka tawnta e ni kâratang nahane hnopai a tawn, hatei mathoe ni yuenae kâhmo boihoeh.
9 The light of the righteous rejoices, And the lamp of the wicked is extinguished.
Tamikalannaw e angnae teh kahawi poung e angnae doeh, hatei tamikathoutnaw e hmaiim teh a due han.
10 A vain man causes debate through pride, And wisdom [is] with the counseled.
Kâoupnae dawk doeh kâyuenae a tâco, hatei pouknae kahawi poe e tarawinae teh lungangnae doeh.
11 Wealth from vanity becomes little, And whoever is gathering by the hand becomes great.
Kamsoumhoehe lah hnopai la e teh tang a kahma han, hatei panki laihoi hmu e hnopai teh a pung han.
12 Hope prolonged is making the heart sick, And a tree of life [is] the coming desire.
Ring e hno tang hmu hoeh e ni lung a pataw sak, hatei ngaikuepnae teh hringnae thingkung doeh.
13 Whoever is despising the word is destroyed for it, And whoever is fearing the command is repaid.
Lawk banglahai ka noutna hoeh e teh rawk sak lah ao han, hatei kâpoelawk e ka bari e teh tawkphu poe lah ao han.
14 The law of the wise [is] a fountain of life, To turn aside from snares of death.
Tami lungkaangnaw e kâpoelawk e teh hringnae tuiphuek lah ao teh, duenae karap rounnae lamthung lahai ao.
15 Good understanding gives grace, And the way of the treacherous [is] hard.
Thaipanueknae ni minhmai kahawi a poe, hatei yuemkamcu hoeh naw e lamthung teh a ru poung.
16 Every prudent one deals with knowledge, And a fool spreads out folly.
Kho kapoukthai e pueng ni panuenae hoi a kâroe awh, hatei tamipathu ni teh a pathunae a kamnue sak.
17 A wicked messenger falls into evil, And a faithful ambassador is healing.
Patoune kathout teh runae dawk a rawp, hatei yuemkamcu e laicei ni teh damnae a thokhai.
18 Whoever is refusing instruction—poverty and shame, And whoever is observing reproof is honored.
Tounnae banglahai ka ngaihoeh e tami koe voutnae hoi yeiraiponae a pha han, hatei tounnae alawkpui lah ka tat e teh bari lah ao han.
19 A desire accomplished is sweet to the soul, And an abomination to fools [Is] to turn from evil.
Ngaikuepnae teh a radip, hatei payonnae rounnae hateh tamikathoutnaw ni a hmuhma awh.
20 Whoever is walking with wise men is wise, And a companion of fools suffers evil.
Tamilungkaangnaw hoi kamyawng e teh a lung a ang han, hatei, tamikathoutnaw hoi kamyawng e teh a rawk han.
21 Evil pursues sinners, And good repays the righteous.
Tamikayon teh thoenae ni a pâlei, hatei tamikalan teh hawinae a pang han.
22 A good man causes sons’ sons to inherit, And the sinner’s wealth [is] laid up for the righteous.
Tamikahawi ni teh a ca catounnaw hanelah râw a parâw pouh, hatei tamikayonnaw e hnopai teh tamikalannaw hanelah pâkhueng lah ouk ao.
23 Abundance of food—the tillage of the poor, And substance is consumed without judgment.
Tamimathoe ni laikawk thawnnae lahoi rawca moi ao, hatei thoenae dawk doeh rawknae koe ouk pha awh.
24 Whoever is sparing his rod is hating his son, And whoever is loving him has hurried his discipline.
Bongpai ka hno ngai hoeh e teh a capa ka hmuhma e lah ao, hatei a capa lung ka pataw e ni teh a nawca hoi ouk a yue toe.
25 The righteous is eating to the satiety of his soul, And the belly of the wicked lacks!
