Philippians 1
1 Paul and Timotheus, servants of Jesus Christ, to all the holy ones in Christ Jesus who are in Philippi, with overseers and servants:
Paulus und Timotheus, Knechte Christi Jesu, entbieten ihren Gruß allen Heiligen in Philippi, die mit Christus Jesus in Gemeinschaft stehen, sowie auch den Bischöfen und Diakonen.
2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ!
Gnade sei mit euch und Friede von Gott, unserem Vater, und dem Herrn Jesus Christus!
3 I give thanks to my God on all the remembrance of you,
Ich danke meinem Gott, sooft ich euer gedenke.
4 always, in every supplication of mine for you all, with joy making the supplication,
Und immer, wenn ich für euch alle bete, bin ich mit Freudigkeit erfüllt.
5 for your contribution to the good news from the first day until now,
Denn von dem Tage an, da ich zu euch gekommen bin, bis heute habt ihr mitgewirkt für die Ausbreitung der Frohen Botschaft.
6 having been confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you, will complete [it] until [the] day of Jesus Christ,
Deshalb bin ich auch der festen Zuversicht, daß er, der ein so gutes Werk in euch begonnen hat, es auch vollenden wird bis zu dem Tag Jesu Christi.
7 according as it is righteous for me to think this in behalf of you all, because of my having you in the heart, both in my bonds, and [in] the defense and confirmation of the good news, all of you being fellow-partakers with me of grace.
Daß ich diese gute Meinung von euch allen habe, ist auch nicht mehr als recht und billig. Denn bin ich gefesselt (in meiner Zelle), oder muß ich (im Gerichtssaal) die Heilsbotschaft verteidigen und ihre Wahrheit kundtun, stets trage ich euch in meinem Herzen — euch alle, die ihr meine Mitgenossen an der Gnade seid.
8 For God is my witness, how I long for you all with [the] yearnings of Jesus Christ,
Gott ist mein Zeuge, daß ich nach euch allen solche Sehnsucht habe, als schlüge Christi Jesu Herz in mir.
9 and this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in full knowledge, and all discernment,
Darum bete ich auch, daß eure Liebe noch immer mehr zunehme und begleitet sei von klarer Einsicht und dem rechten Feingefühl,
10 for your proving the things that differ, that you may be pure and offenseless—to [the] Day of Christ,
damit ihr unterscheiden könnt, was in jedem Fall das Rechte ist. Dann kommt ihr lauter, wie vom Sonnenlicht geprüft, und ohne Fehltritt bis zum Tage Christi,
11 being filled with the fruit of righteousness, that [is] through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.
reich an jenen Früchten der Gerechtigkeit, die Jesus Christus wirkt, zur Ehre und zum Preis Gottes.
12 And I intend you to know, brothers, that the things concerning me, rather have come to an advancement of the good news,
Ich möchte euch nun mitteilen, liebe Brüder, daß alles, was ich hier durchmachen mußte, erst recht zur Förderung der Heilsbotschaft gedient hat.
13 so that my bonds have become evident in Christ in the whole Praetorium, and to all the other places,
Bei den Soldaten der kaiserlichen Leibwache und auch sonst ist es bekannt geworden, daß ich nur der Sache Christi wegen in Fesseln liege.
14 and the greater part of the brothers in the LORD, having confidence by my bonds, are more abundantly bold to fearlessly speak the word.
Die meisten unserer Brüder erwarten jetzt im Vertrauen auf den Herrn einen günstigen Ausgang meiner Gefangenschaft und wagen deshalb auch, Gottes Wort mit größerem Freimut zu verkündigen als bisher.
15 Certain, indeed, even through envy and contention, and certain also through goodwill, preach the Christ;
Manche freilich predigen Christus auch aus Neid und Mißgunst gegen mich, andere aber auch aus guter Absicht.
16 one, indeed, of rivalry proclaims the Christ, not purely, supposing to add affliction to my bonds,
Diese haben Liebe zu mir, denn sie wissen, daß ich dazu berufen bin, die Heilsbotschaft zu verteidigen.
17 and the other out of love, having known that I am set for defense of the good news:
Jene sind voll Selbstsucht: sie verkünden Christus nicht in lauterer Gesinnung, sondern denken mir in meiner Haft noch Kummer zu bereiten.
18 what then? In every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed—and I rejoice in this, indeed, and will rejoice.
Doch was tut's? So oder so, ob mit oder ohne Hintergedanken — Christus wird verkündigt, und darüber freue ich mich. Ja ich werde mich auch ferner freuen.
19 For I have known that this will turn out to me for salvation, through your supplication, and the supply of the Spirit of Christ Jesus,
Denn ich weiß: meine Lage wird sich so gestalten, daß ich freigesprochen werde. Das wird geschehen durch eure Fürbitte und durch die Stärkung, die mir von Jesu Christi Geist zuteil wird.
20 according to my earnest expectation and hope, that I will be ashamed in nothing, and in all freedom, as always, also Christ will now be magnified in my body, whether through life or through death,
So kann ich denn das Haupt erheben in der Hoffnung, daß ich nicht zuschanden werde, sondern daß, wie früher so auch jetzt, Christus vor aller Augen an meinem Leib wird verherrlicht werden, mag ich nun weiterleben oder den Tod erleiden.
21 for to me to live [is] Christ, and to die [is] gain.
Denn meines Lebens Ziel und Inhalt ist nur Christus, darum ist mir Sterben auch Gewinn.
22 And if to live in the flesh [is] to me a fruit of work, then what will I choose? I do not know;
Bringt mir aber dieses Leben hier auf Erden noch weiterhin Erfolg in meiner Arbeit, so weiß ich wahrlich nicht, was ich mir wählen soll.
23 for I am pressed by the two, having the desire to depart, and to be with Christ, for it is far better,
Zwei Wünsche halten mich gefangen: Ich habe Sehnsucht, abzuscheiden und vereint zu sein mit Christus; dies wäre mir am allerliebsten.
24 and to remain in the flesh is more necessary on your account,
Um euretwillen aber ist es nötiger, daß ich noch weiter hier auf Erden lebe.
25 and being persuaded of this, I have known that I will remain and continue with you all, to your advancement and joy of the faith,
Und ich weiß zuversichtlich: ich werde am Leben bleiben und werde euch allen zur Seite stehen, damit ihr vorwärtskommt in Glaubenskraft und Glaubensfreudigkeit.
26 that your boasting may abound in Christ Jesus in me through my coming again to you.
So könnt ihr dann für meine Lebensrettung Christus Jesus dankbar preisen, wenn ich noch einmal wieder zu euch komme.
27 Only conduct yourselves worthily of the good news of the Christ, that, whether having come and seen you, whether being absent I may hear of the things concerning you, that you stand fast in one spirit, with one soul, striving together for the faith of the good news,
Vor allem seht darauf, daß euer Gemeindeleben im Einklang sei mit Christi Froher Botschaft! Denn wenn ich komme, möchte ich an euch sehen, und wenn ich fern bin, möchte ich von euch hören, daß ihr in einem Geist fest zusammensteht, einmütig kämpfend für den Glauben, den die Frohe Botschaft wirkt.
28 and not be terrified in anything by those opposing, which is indeed a token of destruction to them, and to you of salvation, and that from God;
Dabei laßt euch in keiner Weise von den Widersachern schrecken! Ihr Widerstand beweist, daß sie selbst dem Verderben entgegeneilen. Euer unerschrockener Mut dagegen zeigt, daß euch das Heil bestimmt ist. Und solchen Mut will Gott in euch erwecken.
29 because to you it was granted, on behalf of Christ, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer on behalf of Him;
Denn euch ist im Dienst Christi die Gnade zuteil geworden, nicht nur an ihn zu glauben, sondern auch für ihn zu leiden.
30 having the same conflict, such as you saw in me, and now hear of in me.
Ihr habt denselben Leidenskampf wie ich. Einst habt ihr mit eigenen Augen gesehen, wie ich zu dulden hatte, und jetzt hört ihr von der Trübsal, die ich durchzumachen habe.
