Philippians 1
1 Paul and Timotheus, servants of Jesus Christ, to all the holy ones in Christ Jesus who are in Philippi, with overseers and servants:
Paul et Timothée, serviteurs de Jésus-Christ, à tous les fidèles en Jésus-Christ qui sont à Philippes ainsi qu'aux conducteurs de l'église et aux diacres.
2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ!
grâce et paix vous soient accordées par Dieu notre père et par le Seigneur Jésus-Christ.
3 I give thanks to my God on all the remembrance of you,
Je rends grâces à mon Dieu chaque fois que je me souviens de vous.
4 always, in every supplication of mine for you all, with joy making the supplication,
Sans cesse, dans toutes mes prières, je le prie pour vous tous avec joie,
5 for your contribution to the good news from the first day until now,
parce que vous êtes restés fidèles à l'Évangile depuis le premier jour jusqu'à maintenant.
6 having been confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you, will complete [it] until [the] day of Jesus Christ,
Je suis persuadé que celui qui a commencé cette bonne oeuvre en vous la mènera à bonne fin jusqu'au jour de Jésus-Christ.
7 according as it is righteous for me to think this in behalf of you all, because of my having you in the heart, both in my bonds, and [in] the defense and confirmation of the good news, all of you being fellow-partakers with me of grace.
En pensant ainsi de vous tous, je ne fais que vous rendre justice, car je vous porte dans mon coeur. Que je sois en prison, que je défende et prêche l'Évangile, vous prenez tous une si vive part à la grâce qui m'est faite!
8 For God is my witness, how I long for you all with [the] yearnings of Jesus Christ,
Dieu m'est témoin que j'éprouve pour vous tous la tendresse de Jésus-Christ!
9 and this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in full knowledge, and all discernment,
Et je demande ceci: que votre amour aille toujours en grandissant, et qu'il vous donne de l'intelligence
10 for your proving the things that differ, that you may be pure and offenseless—to [the] Day of Christ,
et toute sorte de discernement, que vous appréciiez toutes choses à leur juste valeur, que vous arriviez purs et irréprochables à la journée de Christ,
11 being filled with the fruit of righteousness, that [is] through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.
riches des fruits de la justice qui viennent de Jésus-Christ, à la gloire et à la louange de Dieu.
12 And I intend you to know, brothers, that the things concerning me, rather have come to an advancement of the good news,
Je veux que vous sachiez, mes frères, que ma position a été plutôt un avantage pour l’Évangile.
13 so that my bonds have become evident in Christ in the whole Praetorium, and to all the other places,
En effet, on a parfaitement su dans tout le prétoire et dans le public que j'étais prisonnier pour la cause de Christ,
14 and the greater part of the brothers in the LORD, having confidence by my bonds, are more abundantly bold to fearlessly speak the word.
et la plupart de nos frères rassurés, grâce au Seigneur, sur ma détention, ont plus de hardiesse, moins de crainte pour annoncer la parole de Dieu.
15 Certain, indeed, even through envy and contention, and certain also through goodwill, preach the Christ;
Il en est, sans doute, qui prêchent le Christ par jalousie et pour faire de la polémique, mais d'autres le font dans des dispositions bienveillantes.
16 one, indeed, of rivalry proclaims the Christ, not purely, supposing to add affliction to my bonds,
Ceux-ci sont pleins d'affection, parce qu'ils savent que je suis chargé de défendre l'Évangile;
17 and the other out of love, having known that I am set for defense of the good news:
ceux-là ont un esprit de parti, ils annoncent le Christ sans loyauté; ils pensent aggraver ma situation de prisonnier.
18 what then? In every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed—and I rejoice in this, indeed, and will rejoice.
Qu'importe après tout? Avec ou sans arrière-pensée, Christ est de toutes manières annoncé, et je m'en réjouis et m'en réjouirai toujours.
19 For I have known that this will turn out to me for salvation, through your supplication, and the supply of the Spirit of Christ Jesus,
Car je sais que «Cela tournera à mon salut», grâce à vos prières et au secours de l'Esprit de Jésus-Christ.
20 according to my earnest expectation and hope, that I will be ashamed in nothing, and in all freedom, as always, also Christ will now be magnified in my body, whether through life or through death,
J'ai la conviction, j'ai le ferme espoir de n'être en rien confondu; au contraire, je serai plein de hardiesse, et, maintenant comme toujours, mon corps, que je vive ou que je meure, servira à la gloire de Christ.
21 for to me to live [is] Christ, and to die [is] gain.
Pour moi, Christ est ma vie et mourir est un avantage!
22 And if to live in the flesh [is] to me a fruit of work, then what will I choose? I do not know;
Si, d'un autre côté, ma vie se prolonge, je verrai fructifier mon oeuvre; aussi ne sais-je lequel préférer.
23 for I am pressed by the two, having the desire to depart, and to be with Christ, for it is far better,
Je suis arrêté entre deux désirs contraires: d'un côté celui de partir et d'être avec Christ, c'est de beaucoup ce que je préférerais;
24 and to remain in the flesh is more necessary on your account,
de l'autre, celui de rester dans cette vie, et à cause de vous c'est nécessaire.
25 and being persuaded of this, I have known that I will remain and continue with you all, to your advancement and joy of the faith,
Aussi ai-je la confiance, la certitude que je resterai, que je resterai avec vous tous pour vos progrès dans la joie et dans la foi;
26 that your boasting may abound in Christ Jesus in me through my coming again to you.
et ainsi mon retour auprès de vous vous fournira l'occasion de rendre gloire à mon sujet à Jésus-Christ.
27 Only conduct yourselves worthily of the good news of the Christ, that, whether having come and seen you, whether being absent I may hear of the things concerning you, that you stand fast in one spirit, with one soul, striving together for the faith of the good news,
Seulement que votre conduite soit digne de l'Évangile du Christ; , que je vienne vous voir ou que je reste absent, il me faut apprendre que vous restez fermes, tous dans le même esprit, luttant d'un commun accord pour la foi de l'Évangile,
28 and not be terrified in anything by those opposing, which is indeed a token of destruction to them, and to you of salvation, and that from God;
ne vous laissant intimider en rien par les adversaires; cette fermeté sera un signe évident de ruine pour eux, de salut pour vous, et cela de la part de Dieu.
29 because to you it was granted, on behalf of Christ, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer on behalf of Him;
Car il vous aura fait la grâce, à propos de Christ, non seulement de croire en lui, mais aussi de souffrir pour lui
30 having the same conflict, such as you saw in me, and now hear of in me.
et de soutenir le même combat que vous m'avez vu soutenir et que, vous le savez, je soutiens encore.
