Numbers 35
1 And YHWH speaks to Moses in the plains of Moab by the Jordan, [near] Jericho, saying,
Yavé habló a Moisés frente a Jericó en las llanuras de Moab, junto al Jordán:
2 “Command the sons of Israel, and they have given to the Levites cities to inhabit from the inheritance of their possession; you also give [the] outskirt around them, of the cities, to the Levites.
Ordena a los hijos de Israel que de su herencia en propiedad, den a los levitas ciudades en las cuales puedan vivir, y las tierras de pastos de las ciudades en torno a ellas.
3 And the cities have been for them to inhabit, and their outskirts are for their livestock, and for their goods, and for all their beasts.
Las ciudades les servirán de morada y las tierras de pastos serán para su ganado, sus animales domésticos y todas sus bestias.
4 And the outskirts of the cities which you give to the Levites [are], from the wall of the city and outside, one thousand cubits around.
Las tierras de pastos de las ciudades que darán a los levitas desde el muro de la ciudad hacia fuera, serán de 450 metros alrededor.
5 And you have measured from the outside of the city: the east quarter—two thousand by the cubit, and the south quarter—two thousand by the cubit, and the west quarter—two thousand by the cubit, and the north quarter—two thousand by the cubit; and the city [is] in the midst; this is the outskirts of the cities to them.
Medirán 900 metros fuera de la ciudad por el límite oriental, por el límite sur, por el límite occidental y por la parte norte. La ciudad quedará en el centro. Esto será de ellos como tierras de pastos para las ciudades.
6 And the cities which you give to the Levites [are] the six cities of refuge, which you give for the fleeing there of the manslayer, and besides them you give forty-two cities;
De las ciudades que den a los levitas, seis ciudades serán de refugio, las cuales darán para que se refugie allá el homicida. Además de ellas, les darán 42 ciudades.
7 all the cities which you give to the Levites [are] forty-eight cities, them and their outskirts.
Darán 48 ciudades con sus tierras de pastos a los levitas.
8 And the cities which you give [are] from the possession of the sons of Israel; from the many you multiply, and from the few you diminish; each, according to his inheritance which they inherit, gives to the Levites from his cities.”
En cuanto a las ciudades que les darán de la posesión de los hijos de Israel [a los levitas], tomarán más [ciudades] de [la tribu] que tenga más, y menos de la que tenga menos. Cada uno cederá de sus ciudades a los levitas en proporción a la propiedad que heredó.
9 And YHWH speaks to Moses, saying,
Luego Yavé habló a Moisés:
10 “Speak to the sons of Israel, and you have said to them: When you are passing over the Jordan to the land of Canaan,
Habla a los hijos de Israel: Cuando pasen el Jordán hacia la tierra de Canaán,
11 and have prepared cities for yourselves—they are cities of refuge to you—then a manslayer, striking a person through ignorance, has fled there,
escogerán ciudades que servirán de asilo para ustedes, adonde el homicida que mate a alguno sin intención pueda refugiarse.
12 and the cities have been for a refuge to you from the redeemer, and the manslayer does not die until his standing before the congregation for judgment.
Tales ciudades les servirán de refugio frente al vengador, y así el homicida no morirá antes de presentarse a juicio ante la asamblea.
13 As for the cities which you give, six [are] cities of refuge to you;
Así, pues, de las ciudades que darán, tendrán seis ciudades de refugio.
14 three of the cities you give from beyond the Jordan, and three of the cities you give in the land of Canaan; they are cities of refuge.
Establecerán tres ciudades de refugio a este lado del Jordán y otras tres ciudades en la tierra de Canaán.
15 For sons of Israel, and for a sojourner, and for a settler in their midst, are these six cities for a refuge, for the fleeing there of anyone striking a person through ignorance.
Estas seis ciudades serán para refugio a los hijos de Israel, al extranjero y al que resida entre ustedes, para que se refugie allí todo el que mate a otro sin intención.
16 And if he has struck him with an instrument of iron, and he dies, he [is] a murderer: the murderer is certainly put to death.
Pero si lo golpea con instrumento de hierro y muere, es homicida y morirá.
17 And if he has struck him with a stone [in] the hand, with which he could die, and he dies, he [is] a murderer: the murderer is certainly put to death.
Si lo golpea con una piedra en la mano, con la cual pueda matar, y muere, es homicida. El homicida morirá.
18 Or [if] he has struck him with a wooden instrument [in] the hand, with which he could die, and he dies, he [is] a murderer: the murderer is certainly put to death.
Si lo golpea con un instrumento de madera en la mano, que pueda matar, y muere, es homicida y morirá.
19 The redeemer of blood puts the murderer to death himself; in his coming against him he puts him to death.
El vengador de la sangre, él mismo matará al homicida. En el momento cuando lo encuentre, lo matará.
20 And if he pushes him in hatred, or has cast [anything] at him by lying in wait, and he dies,
Si por odio lo empuja, o lanza algo contra él deliberadamente, y muere,
21 or he has struck him with his hand in enmity, and he dies, the striker is certainly put to death; he [is] a murderer; the redeemer of blood puts the murderer to death in his coming against him.
o si por enemistad lo golpea con la mano y muere, el agresor morirá. Es homicida. El vengador de la sangre matará al asesino cuando lo encuentre.
22 And if, in an instant, without enmity, he has pushed him, or has cast any instrument at him without lying in wait,
Pero si casualmente, sin enemistad, lo empuja o lanza sobre él cualquier objeto sin premeditación,
23 or with any stone with which he could die, without seeing, indeed, causes [it] to fall on him, and he dies, and he [is] not his enemy, nor seeking his evil,
o sin verlo hace caer sobre él alguna piedra que lo mate, y muere, sin ser su enemigo ni procuran su mal,
24 then the congregation has judged between the striker and the redeemer of blood by these judgments.
entonces la asamblea juzgará entre el que hirió, el herido y el vengador de la sangre según estas Leyes.
25 And the congregation has delivered the manslayer out of the hand of the redeemer of blood, and the congregation has caused him to return to the city of his refuge, to where he has fled, and he has dwelt in it until the death of the chief priest who has been anointed with the holy oil.
Así la asamblea librará al homicida de la mano del vengador de la sangre, y la asamblea hará que vuelva a su ciudad de refugio donde se refugió. Allí vivirá hasta la muerte del sumo sacerdote que fue ungido con el aceite del Santuario.
26 And if the manslayer indeed goes out [from] the border of the city of his refuge to where he flees,
Pero si el homicida sale fuera del límite de su ciudad de refugio donde se refugió,
27 and the redeemer of blood has found him at the outside of the border of the city of his refuge, and the redeemer of blood has slain the manslayer, blood [is] not [reckoned] to him;
y el vengador de la sangre lo encuentra fuera del límite de su ciudad de refugio, y el vengador de la sangre mata al homicida, aquél no será culpable de sangre,
28 for he dwells in the city of his refuge until the death of the chief priest; and after the death of the chief priest the manslayer turns back to the city of his possession.
porque el homicida debió vivir en su ciudad de refugio hasta la muerte del sumo sacerdote. Solo después de la muerte del sumo sacerdote, el homicida podrá regresar a la tierra de su posesión.
29 And these things have been for a statute of judgment to you throughout your generations, in all your dwellings.
Estas cosas les servirán de estatuto legal en sus generaciones, en todo lugar donde vivan.
30 Whoever strikes a person, by the mouth of witnesses [one] slays the murderer; and one witness does not testify against a person to cause [him] to die.
Cualquiera que mate a alguno, morirá por el testimonio de testigos, pero el testimonio de un solo testigo no bastará para que muera una persona.
31 And you take no atonement for the life of a murderer who [is] condemned to die, for he is certainly put to death;
No aceptarán rescate por la vida del homicida, porque está condenado a muerte. Ciertamente morirá.
32 and you take no atonement for him [who had] to flee to the city of his refuge, to return to dwell in the land, until the death of the priest.
Tampoco aceptarán rescate del que se asiló en su ciudad de refugio para que vuelva a vivir en su tierra antes de la muerte del sacerdote.
33 And you do not profane the land which you [are] in, for blood profanes the land; as for the land, it is not pardoned for blood which is shed in it except by the blood of him who sheds it;
No profanarán la tierra en la cual están, porque la sangre profana la tierra. La tierra no tendrá sacrificio que apacigua por la sangre que fue derramada en ella, excepto con la sangre del que la derramó.
34 and you do not defile the land in which you are dwelling, in the midst of which I dwell, for I, YHWH, dwell in the midst of the sons of Israel.”
No contaminarán la tierra donde ustedes viven, en medio de la cual Yo moro, porque Yo, Yavé, moro en medio de los hijos de Israel.
