< Numbers 35 >
1 And YHWH speaks to Moses in the plains of Moab by the Jordan, [near] Jericho, saying,
Waaqayyos dirreewwan Moʼaab irratti, Yordaanos biratti, Yerikoo gamatti Museedhaan akkana jedhe;
2 “Command the sons of Israel, and they have given to the Levites cities to inhabit from the inheritance of their possession; you also give [the] outskirt around them, of the cities, to the Levites.
“Israaʼeloonni dhaala ofii isaaniitii argachuuf jiran keessaa magaalaawwan Lewwonni keessa jiraatan akka isaanii kennan Israaʼeloota ajaji. Lafa horii itti bobbaafatanis naannoo magaalaawwaniitti haa kennaniif.
3 And the cities have been for them to inhabit, and their outskirts are for their livestock, and for their goods, and for all their beasts.
Isaanis magaalaawwan keessa jiraatanii fi lafa itti loon isaaniitii fi horii isaanii kaan hunda bobbaafatan ni qabaatu.
4 And the outskirts of the cities which you give to the Levites [are], from the wall of the city and outside, one thousand cubits around.
“Lafti horiin itti bobbaʼu kan isin naannoo magaalaawwaniitti Lewwotaaf kennitan sun dallaa magaalaa irraa jalqabee gama hundaan dhundhuma kuma tokko achi balʼata.
5 And you have measured from the outside of the city: the east quarter—two thousand by the cubit, and the south quarter—two thousand by the cubit, and the west quarter—two thousand by the cubit, and the north quarter—two thousand by the cubit; and the city [is] in the midst; this is the outskirts of the cities to them.
Magaalaa sana gidduutti hambisuudhaan karaa alaatiin gama baʼaatiin dhundhuma kuma lama, gama kibbaatiin dhundhuma kuma lama, gama dhiʼaatiin dhundhuma kuma lama, gama kaabaatiin immoo dhundhuma kuma lama safaraa. Iddoowwan kunneen magaalaawwan sanaaf iddoowwan itti horii bobbaafatan taʼu.
6 And the cities which you give to the Levites [are] the six cities of refuge, which you give for the fleeing there of the manslayer, and besides them you give forty-two cities;
“Magaalaawwan jaʼan isin Lewwotaaf kennitan magaalaawwan itti baqatan kanneen namni nama ajjeese itti baqatu taʼu. Magaalaawwan afurtamii lamas kanatti dabalaatii isaanii kennaa.
7 all the cities which you give to the Levites [are] forty-eight cities, them and their outskirts.
Walumaa galatti magaalaawwan afurtamii saddeet kanneen lafa tika ofii isaanii qaban Lewwotaaf kennaa.
8 And the cities which you give [are] from the possession of the sons of Israel; from the many you multiply, and from the few you diminish; each, according to his inheritance which they inherit, gives to the Levites from his cities.”
Magaalaawwan isin lafa Israaʼeloonni dhaalan irraa Lewwotaaf kennitan, akkuma qooda dhaala tokkoo tokkoo gosaatti haa taʼu; gosa dhaala baayʼee qabu irraa magaalaawwan baayʼee, gosa dhaala muraasa qabu irraa immoo magaalaawwan xinnoo fuudhaa.”
9 And YHWH speaks to Moses, saying,
Waaqayyos Museedhaan akkana jedhe:
10 “Speak to the sons of Israel, and you have said to them: When you are passing over the Jordan to the land of Canaan,
“Israaʼelootatti dubbadhu; akkanas jedhiin: ‘Isin yommuu Yordaanosin ceetanii Kanaʼaanitti galtanitti,
11 and have prepared cities for yourselves—they are cities of refuge to you—then a manslayer, striking a person through ignorance, has fled there,
akka isin magaalaawwan itti baqatan kanneen namni tasa nama ajjeese itti baqatu isinii taʼaniif magaalaawwan filadhaa.
12 and the cities have been for a refuge to you from the redeemer, and the manslayer does not die until his standing before the congregation for judgment.
Magaalaawwan kunneenis akka namni nama ajjeesuudhaan himatame utuu murtii argachuuf waldaa duratti hin dhiʼaatin hin duuneef iddoo inni itti nama haaloo isa baʼu jalaa baqatu taʼu.
13 As for the cities which you give, six [are] cities of refuge to you;
Magaalaawwan isin kennitan jaʼan kunneenis magaalaawwan itti baqattan isinii taʼu.
14 three of the cities you give from beyond the Jordan, and three of the cities you give in the land of Canaan; they are cities of refuge.
Yordaanos gamanaan magaalaawwan sadii, Kanaʼaan keessaa immoo magaalaawwan sadii, magaalaawwan itti baqatan godhaa kennaa.
15 For sons of Israel, and for a sojourner, and for a settler in their midst, are these six cities for a refuge, for the fleeing there of anyone striking a person through ignorance.
Magaalaawwan jaʼan kunneen akka namni tasa nama ajjeese kam iyyuu itti baqatuuf Israaʼelootaaf, alagootaa fi saba isaan gidduu jiraatuuf iddoo itti baqatan taʼu.
16 And if he has struck him with an instrument of iron, and he dies, he [is] a murderer: the murderer is certainly put to death.
“‘Namni tokko yoo meeshaa sibiilaatiin nama dhaʼee namichi sun duʼe, inni ajjeese sun nama gumaa ti; namichi ajjeese sun ajjeefamuu qaba.
17 And if he has struck him with a stone [in] the hand, with which he could die, and he dies, he [is] a murderer: the murderer is certainly put to death.
Yookaan namni tokko yoo dhagaa nama ajjeesuu dandaʼu harkatti qabatee nama dhaʼee ajjeese, inni nama gumaa ti; namichi nama ajjeese sun ajjeefamuu qaba.
18 Or [if] he has struck him with a wooden instrument [in] the hand, with which he could die, and he dies, he [is] a murderer: the murderer is certainly put to death.
Yookaan namni tokko yoo meeshaa mukaa kan nama ajjeesuu dandaʼu harkatti qabatee nama dhaʼee namichi sun duʼe, inni ajjeese sun nama gumaa ti; namichi nama ajjeese sun ajjeefamuu qaba.
19 The redeemer of blood puts the murderer to death himself; in his coming against him he puts him to death.
Namichi haaloo dhiigaa baʼu sun namicha nama ajjeese sana haa ajjeesu; inni yommuu argatutti isa haa ajjeesu.
20 And if he pushes him in hatred, or has cast [anything] at him by lying in wait, and he dies,
Namni tokko yoo jibbaan nama darbatee lafaan dhaʼee yookaan beekaa waa itti darbachuudhaan isa ajjeese,
21 or he has struck him with his hand in enmity, and he dies, the striker is certainly put to death; he [is] a murderer; the redeemer of blood puts the murderer to death in his coming against him.
yookaan yoo diinummaadhaan kaʼee harkaan isa dhaʼee namichi sun duʼe, inni nama ajjeese sun ajjeefamuu qaba; inni nama gumaa ti. Namichi haaloo dhiigaa baʼu sun namicha nama ajjeese sana yeroo argatutti isa haa ajjeesu.
22 And if, in an instant, without enmity, he has pushed him, or has cast any instrument at him without lying in wait,
“‘Garuu inni yoo utuu diinummaa hin qabaatin tasa nama darbatee lafaan dhaʼe yookaan utuu hin beekin waan tokko isatti darbatee
23 or with any stone with which he could die, without seeing, indeed, causes [it] to fall on him, and he dies, and he [is] not his enemy, nor seeking his evil,
yookaan utuu isa hin argin dhagaa isa ajjeesuu dandaʼu itti gad dhiisee namichi sun duʼe, inni waan diina isaa hin taʼinii fi isa miidhuuf hin yaadiniif
24 then the congregation has judged between the striker and the redeemer of blood by these judgments.
waldaan sun akkuma seera kanneeniitti namicha nama ajjeese sanaa fi isa haaloo dhiigaa baʼu sana gidduutti murtii haa kennu.
25 And the congregation has delivered the manslayer out of the hand of the redeemer of blood, and the congregation has caused him to return to the city of his refuge, to where he has fled, and he has dwelt in it until the death of the chief priest who has been anointed with the holy oil.
Waldaan sun namicha nama ajjeesuudhaan himatame sana harka namicha haaloo dhiigaa baʼu sanaa jalaa baasee magaalaa inni itti baqatee ture sanatti deebisee isa haa ergu. Innis hamma lubni ol aanaan zayitii qulqulluudhaan dibame sun duʼutti achuma haa turu.
26 And if the manslayer indeed goes out [from] the border of the city of his refuge to where he flees,
“‘Taʼus yoo namichi nama ajjeese sun daarii magaalaa itti baqate sanaa keessaa baʼee
27 and the redeemer of blood has found him at the outside of the border of the city of his refuge, and the redeemer of blood has slain the manslayer, blood [is] not [reckoned] to him;
namichi haaloo dhiigaa baʼu sun magaalaa sanaan alatti isa argate, namichi haaloo dhiigaa baʼu sun namicha himatame sana ajjeesuu dandaʼa; yakka ajjeechaa sanaattis hin gaafatamu.
28 for he dwells in the city of his refuge until the death of the chief priest; and after the death of the chief priest the manslayer turns back to the city of his possession.
Namichi nama ajjeese sun hamma lubni ol aanaan sun duʼutti magaalaa itti baqate keessa turuu qaba; inni erga lubichi ol aanaan duʼee booddee gara qabeenya isaatti deebiʼuu dandaʼa.
29 And these things have been for a statute of judgment to you throughout your generations, in all your dwellings.
“‘Isaan kunneenis dhaloota dhufu keessatti lafa isin jiraattan kamitti iyyuu seeraa fi qajeelfama isiniif haa taʼan.
30 Whoever strikes a person, by the mouth of witnesses [one] slays the murderer; and one witness does not testify against a person to cause [him] to die.
“‘Namni kam iyyuu yoo nama ajjeese namichi sun ragaa dhugaa baatonni kennaniin ajjeefama. Taʼus namni kam iyyuu dhuga baʼumsa nama tokkoo qofaan hin ajjeefamin.
31 And you take no atonement for the life of a murderer who [is] condemned to die, for he is certainly put to death;
“‘Namicha nama ajjeesee duuti isaaf malu tokko irraa gumaa lubbuu hin fudhatinaa. Inni ajjeefamuu qaba.
32 and you take no atonement for him [who had] to flee to the city of his refuge, to return to dwell in the land, until the death of the priest.
“‘Akka inni utuu lubichi ol aanaan hin duʼin dura biyya ofii isaatti deebiʼee achi jiraatu eeyyamuuf jettanii nama gara magaalaa itti baqataniitti baqate kamiif iyyuu gumaa hin fudhatinaa.
33 And you do not profane the land which you [are] in, for blood profanes the land; as for the land, it is not pardoned for blood which is shed in it except by the blood of him who sheds it;
“‘Sababii dhangalaafamuun dhiigaa biyya xureessuuf, isin biyya keessa jiraattan sana hin xureessinaa; dhiiguma namicha dhiiga dhangalaase sanaatiin malees biyya dhiigni itti dhangalaafame sanaaf araarri hin buufamu.
34 and you do not defile the land in which you are dwelling, in the midst of which I dwell, for I, YHWH, dwell in the midst of the sons of Israel.”
Biyya isin keessa jirtan iddoo ani jiraadhu sana hin xureessinaa. Ani Waaqayyo Israaʼeloota gidduu nan jiraadhaatii.’”
