Numbers 31
1 And YHWH speaks to Moses, saying,
Il Signore disse a Mosè:
2 “Execute the vengeance of the sons of Israel against the Midianites—afterward you are gathered to your people.”
«Compi la vendetta degli Israeliti contro i Madianiti, poi sarai riunito ai tuoi antenati».
3 And Moses speaks to the people, saying, “Arm men from [among] you for the war, and they are against Midian, to put the vengeance of YHWH on Midian;
Mosè disse al popolo: «Mobilitate fra di voi uomini per la guerra e marcino contro Madian per eseguire la vendetta del Signore su Madian.
4 one thousand for a tribe—you send one thousand for a tribe, of all the tribes of Israel, to the war.”
Manderete in guerra mille uomini per tribù di tutte le tribù d'Israele».
5 And there are given out of the thousands of Israel one thousand for a tribe—twelve thousand armed ones [for] war;
Così furono forniti, dalle migliaia d'Israele, mille uomini per tribù, cioè dodicimila uomini armati per la guerra.
6 and Moses sends them, one thousand for a tribe, to the war; [he sent] them and Phinehas son of Eleazar the priest to the war, with the holy vessels and the trumpets of shouting in his hand.
Mosè mandò in guerra quei mille uomini per tribù e con loro Pincas, figlio del sacerdote Eleazaro, il quale portava gli oggetti sacri e aveva in mano le trombe dell'acclamazione.
7 And they war against Midian, as YHWH has commanded Moses, and slay every male;
Marciarono dunque contro Madian come il Signore aveva ordinato a Mosè, e uccisero tutti i maschi.
8 and they have slain the kings of Midian besides their pierced ones: Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba—five kings of Midian; and they have slain Balaam son of Beor with the sword.
Uccisero anche, oltre i loro caduti, i re di Madian Evi, Rekem, Sur, Ur e Reba cioè cinque re di Madian; uccisero anche di spada Balaam figlio di Beor.
9 And the sons of Israel take the women of Midian and their infants captive; and they have plundered all their livestock, and all their substance, and all their wealth;
Gli Israeliti fecero prigioniere le donne di Madian e i loro fanciulli e depredarono tutto il loro bestiame, tutti i loro greggi e ogni loro bene;
10 and they have burned all their cities, with their habitations, and all their towers, with fire.
appiccarono il fuoco a tutte le città che quelli abitavano e a tutti i loro attendamenti
11 And they take all the spoil and all the prey, among man and among beast;
e presero tutto il bottino e tutta la preda, gente e bestiame.
12 and they bring in the captives, and the prey, and the spoil to Moses, and to Eleazar the priest, and to the congregation of the sons of Israel, to the camp, to the plains of Moab, which [are] by the Jordan, [near] Jericho.
Poi condussero i prigionieri, la preda e il bottino a Mosè, al sacerdote Eleazaro e alla comunità degli Israeliti, accampati nelle steppe di Moab, presso il Giordano di fronte a Gerico.
13 And Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and all the princes of the congregation, go out to meet them, to the outside of the camp,
Mosè, il sacerdote Eleazaro e tutti i principi della comunità uscirono loro incontro fuori dell'accampamento.
14 and Moses is angry against the inspectors of the force, chiefs of the thousands, and chiefs of the hundreds, who are coming in from the warfare of battle.
Mosè si adirò contro i comandanti dell'esercito, capi di migliaia e capi di centinaia, che tornavano da quella spedizione di guerra.
15 And Moses says to them, “Have you kept every female alive?
Mosè disse loro: «Avete lasciato in vita tutte le femmine?
16 Behold, they have been to the sons of Israel, through the word of Balaam, to cause a trespass against YHWH in the matter of Peor, and the plague is in the congregation of YHWH.
Proprio loro, per suggerimento di Balaam, hanno insegnato agli Israeliti l'infedeltà verso il Signore, nella faccenda di Peor, per cui venne il flagello nella comunità del Signore.
17 And now, slay every male among the infants, indeed, slay every woman knowing a man by the lying of a male;
Ora uccidete ogni maschio tra i fanciulli e uccidete ogni donna che si è unita con un uomo;
18 and all the infants among the women who have not known the lying of a male you have kept alive for yourselves.
ma tutte le fanciulle che non si sono unite con uomini, conservatele in vita per voi.
19 And you, encamp at the outside of the camp [for] seven days; any who has slain a person, and any who has come against a pierced one, cleanse yourselves on the third day and on the seventh day—you and your captives;
Voi poi accampatevi per sette giorni fuori del campo; chiunque ha ucciso qualcuno e chiunque ha toccato un cadavere si purifichi il terzo e il settimo giorno; questo per voi e per i vostri prigionieri.
20 and every garment, and every skin vessel, and every work of goats’ [hair], and every wooden vessel, you yourselves cleanse.”
Purificherete anche ogni veste, ogni oggetto di pelle, ogni lavoro di pelo di capra e ogni oggetto di legno».
21 And Eleazar the priest says to the men of war who go to battle, “This [is] the statute of the law which YHWH has commanded Moses:
Il sacerdote Eleazaro disse ai soldati che erano andati in guerra: «Questo è l'ordine della legge che il Signore ha prescritto a Mosè:
22 only the gold, and the silver, the bronze, the iron, the tin, and the lead,
L'oro, l'argento, il rame, il ferro, lo stagno e il piombo,
23 everything which may go into fire, you cause to pass over through fire, and it has been clean; it is surely cleansed with the water of separation; and all that may not go into fire, you cause to pass over through water;
quanto può sopportare il fuoco, lo farete passare per il fuoco e sarà reso puro; ma sarà purificato anche con l'acqua della purificazione; quanto non può sopportare il fuoco, lo farete passare per l'acqua.
24 and you have washed your garments on the seventh day and have been clean, and afterward you come into the camp.”
Vi laverete le vesti il settimo giorno e sarete puri; poi potrete entrare nell'accampamento».
25 And YHWH speaks to Moses, saying,
Il Signore disse a Mosè:
26 “Take up the sum of the prey of the captives, among man and among beast, you, and Eleazar the priest, and the heads of the fathers of the congregation;
«Tu, con il sacerdote Eleazaro e con i capi dei casati della comunità, fà il censimento di tutta la preda che è stata fatta: della gente e del bestiame;
27 and you have halved the prey between those handling the battle, who go out to the war, and all the congregation;
dividi la preda fra i combattenti che sono andati in guerra e tutta la comunità.
28 and you have raised a tribute to YHWH from the men of battle, who go out to the war, one body out of five hundred, of man, and of the herd, and of the donkeys, and of the flock;
Dalla parte spettante ai soldati che sono andati in guerra preleverai un contributo per il Signore: cioè l'uno per cinquecento delle persone e del grosso bestiame, degli asini e del bestiame minuto.
29 you take from their half and have given [it] to Eleazar the priest [as] a raised-offering of YHWH.
Lo prenderete sulla metà di loro spettanza e lo darai al sacerdote Eleazaro come offerta da fare con il rito di elevazione in onore del Signore.
30 And from the sons of Israel’s half you take one possession out of fifty, of man, of the herd, of the donkeys, and of the flock, of all the livestock, and you have given them to the Levites keeping the charge of the Dwelling Place of YHWH.”
Della metà che spetta agli Israeliti prenderai l'uno per cinquanta delle persone del grosso bestiame, degli asini e del bestiame minuto; lo darai ai leviti, che hanno la custodia della Dimora del Signore».
31 And Moses does—Eleazar the priest also—as YHWH has commanded Moses.
Mosè e il sacerdote Eleazaro fecero come il Signore aveva ordinato a Mosè.
32 And the prey, the remainder of the spoil which the people of the host have spoiled, is six hundred thousand and seventy thousand and five thousand of the flock;
Ora il bottino, cioè tutto ciò che rimaneva della preda fatta da coloro che erano stati in guerra, consisteva in seicentosettantacinquemila capi di bestiame minuto,
33 and seventy-two thousand of the herd;
settantaduemila capi di grosso bestiame,
34 and sixty-one thousand donkeys;
sessantunmila asini
35 and of mankind—of the women who have not known the lying of a male—all the persons [are] thirty-two thousand.
e trentaduemila persone, ossia donne che non si erano unite con uomini.
36 And the half, the portion of those who go out into the war, is [in] number three hundred thousand and thirty thousand and seven thousand and five hundred of the flock.
La metà, cioè la parte di quelli che erano andati in guerra, fu di trecentotrentasettemilacinquecento capi di bestiame minuto,
37 And the tribute to YHWH of the sheep is six hundred seventy-five;
dei quali seicentosettantacinque per il tributo al Signore;
38 and the herd [is] thirty-six thousand, and their tribute to YHWH [is] seventy-two;
trentaseimila capi di grosso bestiame, dei quali settantadue per l'offerta al Signore;
39 and the donkeys [are] thirty thousand and five hundred, and their tribute to YHWH [is] sixty-one;
trentamilacinquecento asini, dei quali sessantuno per l'offerta al Signore,
40 and of mankind [are] sixteen thousand, and their tribute to YHWH [is] thirty-two persons.
e sedicimila persone, delle quali trentadue per l'offerta al Signore.
41 And Moses gives the tribute—YHWH’s raised-offering—to Eleazar the priest, as YHWH has commanded Moses.
Mosè diede al sacerdote Eleazaro il contributo dell'offerta prelevata per il Signore, come il Signore gli aveva ordinato.
42 And of the sons of Israel’s half, which Moses halved from the men who war—
La metà che spettava agli Israeliti, dopo che Mosè ebbe fatto la spartizione con gli uomini andati in guerra,
43 and the congregation’s half is three hundred thousand and thirty thousand [and] seven thousand and five hundred of the flock;
la metà spettante alla comunità fu di trecentotrentasettemilacinquecento capi di bestiame minuto,
44 and thirty-six thousand of the herd;
trentaseimila capi di grosso bestiame,
45 and thirty thousand and five hundred donkeys;
trentamilacinquecento asini
46 and sixteen thousand of mankind—
e sedicimila persone.
47 Moses takes from the sons of Israel’s half one possession from the fifty, of man and of beast, and gives them to the Levites keeping the charge of the Dwelling Place of YHWH, as YHWH has commanded Moses.
Da questa metà che spettava agli Israeliti, Mosè prese l'uno per cinquanta degli uomini e degli animali e li diede ai leviti che hanno la custodia della Dimora del Signore, come il Signore aveva ordinato a Mosè.
48 And the inspectors whom the thousands of the host have (heads of the thousands and heads of the hundreds), draw near to Moses,
I comandanti delle migliaia dell'esercito, capi di migliaia e capi di centinaia, si avvicinarono a Mosè e gli dissero:
49 and they say to Moses, “Your servants have taken up the sum of the men of war who [are] with us, and not a man of us has been missed;
«I tuoi servi hanno fatto il computo dei soldati che erano sotto i nostri ordini e non ne manca neppure uno.
50 and we bring YHWH’s offering near, each of that which he has found of vessels of gold—chain, and bracelet, seal-ring, [ear]-ring, and bead—to make atonement for ourselves before YHWH.”
Per questo portiamo, in offerta al Signore, ognuno quello che ha trovato di oggetti d'oro: bracciali, braccialetti, anelli, pendenti, collane, per il rito espiatorio per le nostre persone davanti al Signore».
51 And Moses receives—Eleazar the priest also—the gold from them, every vessel of workmanship;
Mosè e il sacerdote Eleazaro presero dalle loro mani quell'oro, tutti gli oggetti lavorati.
52 and all the gold of the raised-offering which they have lifted up to YHWH is sixteen thousand seven hundred and fifty shekels, from heads of the thousands and from heads of the hundreds;
Tutto l'oro dell'offerta, che essi consacrarono al Signore con il rito dell'elevazione, da parte dei capi di migliaia e dei capi di centinaia, pesava sedicimilasettecentocinquanta sicli.
53 (the men of the host have each taken spoil for himself);
Gli uomini dell'esercito si tennero il bottino che ognuno aveva fatto per conto suo.
54 and Moses takes—Eleazar the priest also—the gold from the heads of the thousands and of the hundreds, and they bring it into the Tent of Meeting [as] a memorial for the sons of Israel before YHWH.
Mosè e il sacerdote Eleazaro presero l'oro dei capi di migliaia e di centinaia e lo portarono nella tenda del convegno come memoriale per gli Israeliti davanti al Signore.
