< Numbers 22 >
1 And the sons of Israel journey and encamp in the plains of Moab beyond the Jordan, [by] Jericho.
Awo abaana ba Isirayiri ne basitula, ne batambula ne basiisira mu lusenyi lwa Mowaabu ku mugga Yoludaani okwolekera Yeriko.
2 And Balak son of Zippor sees all that Israel has done to the Amorite,
Balaki mutabani wa Zipoli n’alaba byonna Isirayiri bye yali akoze Abamoli.
3 and Moab is exceedingly afraid of the presence of the people, for it [is] numerous; and Moab is distressed by the presence of the sons of Israel,
Mowaabu n’atya nnyo kubanga abantu abo baali bangi nnyo. Mowaabu okutya abaana ba Isirayiri ne kumusukkirira.
4 and Moab says to [the] elderly of Midian, “Now the assembly licks up all that is around us, as the ox licks up the green thing of the field.” And Balak son of Zippor [is] king of Moab at that time,
Awo Mowaabu n’agamba abakulembeze ba Midiyaani nti, “Ogubiina gw’abantu bano bajja kulya byonna bye tuli nabyo ebitwetoolodde ng’ente bw’erya n’esaanyaawo omuddo ogw’oku ttale.” Balaki mutabani wa Zipoli, eyali kabaka wa Mowaabu mu biseera ebyo,
5 and he sends messengers to Balaam son of Beor, to Pethor, which [is] by the River of the land of the sons of his people, to call for him, saying, “Behold, a people has come out of Egypt; behold, it has covered the eye of the land, and it is abiding in front of me;
n’atuma ababaka eri Balamu mutabani wa Byoli, eyali mu Pesoli, ekiriraanye Omugga, mu nsi y’ewaabwe, okumuyita ng’amugamba nti, “Abantu bali wano, baavudde mu Misiri, basaanikidde ensi yonna we batudde; basiisidde wano okunninaana.
6 and now, come, please curse this people for me, for it [is] mightier than I. It may be I prevail, [and] we strike it, and I cast it out from the land; for I have known that which you bless is blessed, and that which you curse is cursed.”
Kale nno, nkusaba ojje onkolimirire abantu bano, kubanga bampitiridde amaanyi. Oboolyawo lwe ndisobola okubawangula ne mbagoba mu nsi yange. Kubanga mmanyi nga gw’okolimira akolimirwa, ne gw’osabira omukisa aweebwa omukisa.”
7 And [the] elderly of Moab and [the] elderly of Midian go with divinations in their hand, and they come to Balaam and speak the words of Balak to him,
Awo ababaka abaatumibwa, abaali abakulembeze ba Mowaabu n’abakulembeze ba Midiyaani, ne basitula nga batutte n’ensimbi ez’okumusasula. Bwe baatuuka eri Balamu ne bamutegeeza obubaka Balaki bwe yabatuma.
8 and he says to them, “Lodge here tonight, and I have brought you back word, as YHWH speaks to me”; and the princes of Moab abide with Balaam.
Balamu n’abagamba nti, “Musule wano leero, nange nnaabatuusaako ekigambo Mukama ky’anaaba aŋŋambye.” Bwe batyo abakungu abaava mu Mowaabu ne basula ewa Balamu.
9 And God comes to Balaam and says, “Who [are] these men with you?”
Katonda n’ajja eri Balamu n’amubuuza nti, “Bantu ki bano abali naawe?”
10 And Balaam says to God, “Balak, son of Zippor, king of Moab, has sent to me:
Balamu n’addamu Katonda nti, “Balaki mutabani wa Zipoli, Kabaka wa Mowaabu ye yampeereza obubaka buno ng’agamba nti,
11 Behold, the people that is coming out from Egypt and covers the eye of the land—now come, pierce it for me; it may be I am able to fight against it and have cast it out”;
‘Abantu abavudde mu Misiri basaanikidde ensi we batudde. Kale nno jjangu obankolimirire. Oboolyawo ekyo kiyinza okunsobozesa okubalwanyisa ne mbagoba mu nsi yange.’”
12 and God says to Balaam, “You do not go with them; you do not curse the people, for it [is] blessed.”
Naye Katonda n’agamba Balamu nti, “Togenda na bantu abo. Abantu bali tekikugwanidde kubakolimira, kubanga baaweebwa omukisa.”
13 And Balaam rises in the morning and says to the princes of Balak, “Go to your land, for YHWH is refusing to permit me to go with you”;
Enkeera mu makya Balamu n’azuukuka, n’agamba abakungu abaatumibwa Balaki nti, “Muddeeyo mu nsi yammwe, kubanga Mukama Katonda aŋŋaanye okugenda nammwe.”
14 and the princes of Moab rise, and come to Balak, and say, “Balaam is refusing to come with us.”
Abakungu aba Mowaabu ne bakomawo eri Balaki ne bamugamba nti, “Balamu yagaanye okujja naffe.”
15 And Balak adds yet to send princes, more numerous and honored than these,
Balaki ne yeeyongera okutuma abakungu abalala, nga baabitiibwa binene era nga bangi okusingako ku bali abaasooka.
16 and they come to Balaam and say to him, “Thus said Balak son of Zippor: Please do not be withheld from coming to me,
Ne bajja eri Balamu ne bamugamba nti, “Bw’ati bw’ayogera Balaki mutabani wa Zipoli nti, ‘Nkwegayiridde, tokkiriza kintu kyonna kukuziyiza kujja gye ndi;
17 for I honor you very greatly, and all that you say to me I do; and come, please pierce this people for me.”
kubanga nzija kutumbula nnyo ekitiibwa kyo, era ŋŋenda kukukolera kyonna ky’ononsaba. Jjangu onkoliimiririre abantu bano.’”
18 And Balaam answers and says to the servants of Balak, “If Balak gives to me the fullness of his house of silver and gold, I am not able to pass over the command of my God YHWH, to do a little or a great thing;
Naye Balamu n’addamu abo Balaki be yatuma nti, “Balaki ne bw’alimpa enju ye ng’ejjudde ffeeza ne zaabu sigenda kukola kinene oba kitono nga kisukka ku kiragiro kya Mukama Katonda wange.
19 and now, please abide in this [place], you also, tonight, then I know what YHWH is adding to speak with me.”
Kale nno musule wano olwa leero, nga bannammwe bwe baakola, nange mpulire Mukama Katonda ky’anaayongera okuŋŋamba.”
20 And God comes to Balaam by night and says to him, “If the men have come to call for you, rise, go with them, and only the thing which I speak to you—do it.”
Mu kiro ekyo Katonda n’ajja eri Balamu n’amugamba nti, “Obanga abantu abo bakuddukidde, genda nabo, naye okole ekyo kyokka kye nnaakulagira okukola.”
21 And Balaam rises in the morning, and saddles his donkey, and goes with the princes of Moab,
Balamu n’agolokoka mu makya, n’ateeka amatandiiko ku ndogoyi ye, n’agenda n’abakungu ba Mowaabu.
22 and the anger of God burns because he is going, and the Messenger of YHWH stations Himself in the way for an adversary to him, and he is riding on his donkey, and two of his servants [are] with him,
Naye Katonda n’asunguwala nnyo kubanga Balamu yagenda, malayika wa Mukama Katonda n’ayimirira mu kkubo okumuziyiza. Balamu yali yeebagadde endogoyi ye, abaweereza be babiri nabo baali naye.
23 and the donkey sees the Messenger of YHWH standing in the way with His drawn sword in His hand, and the donkey turns aside out of the way and goes into a field, and Balaam strikes the donkey to turn it aside into the way.
Endogoyi n’eraba malayika wa Mukama Katonda ng’ayimiridde mu kkubo, n’ekitala ekisowoddwa nga kiri mu mukono gwe; endogoyi n’ekyama n’eva mu kkubo n’eraga mu nnimiro. Balamu n’agikuba agizze mu kkubo.
24 And the Messenger of YHWH stands in a narrow path of the vineyards, [with] a wall on this [side] and a wall on that [side],
Malayika wa Mukama Katonda n’ayimirira mu kakubo akafunda akayita wakati w’ennimiro z’emizabbibu nga ziriko ekisenge ku buli luuyi.
25 and the donkey sees the Messenger of YHWH, and is pressed to the wall, and presses Balaam’s foot to the wall, and he adds to strike her;
Endogoyi bwe yalaba malayika wa Mukama Katonda ne yeenyigiriza ku kisenge, n’ebetenterako ekigere kya Balamu. N’ayongera okugikuba.
26 and the Messenger of YHWH adds to pass over, and stands in a narrow place where there is no way to turn aside [to] the right or left,
Malayika wa Mukama Katonda ne yeeyongerayo mu maaso, n’ayimirira mu kakubo akafunda ennyo, awataali kabanga ka kwekyusizaamu kulaga ku mukono ogwa ddyo wadde ku gwa kkono.
27 and the donkey sees the Messenger of YHWH, and crouches under Balaam, and the anger of Balaam burns, and he strikes the donkey with a staff.
Endogoyi bwe yalaba malayika wa Mukama Katonda n’egalamira wansi, nga Balamu ye agituddeko; obusungu bwa Balamu ne bubuubuuka, n’akuba endogoyi n’omuggo gwe.
28 And YHWH opens the mouth of the donkey, and she says to Balaam, “What have I done to you that you have struck me these three times?”
Awo Mukama Katonda n’ayasamya akamwa k’endogoyi, n’egamba Balamu nti, “Nkukoze ki okunkuba emirundi gino gyonsatule?”
29 And Balaam says to the donkey, “Because you have rolled yourself against me; oh that there were a sword in my hand, for now I had slain you”;
Balamu n’agamba endogoyi nti, “Kubanga onfudde atategeera! Singa mbadde n’ekitala mu mukono gwange nandikuttiddewo kaakano.”
30 and the donkey says to Balaam, “Am I not your donkey on which you have ridden since [I became] yours, even to this day? Have I at all been accustomed to do thus to you?” And he says, “No.”
Endogoyi n’egamba Balamu nti, “Siri ndogoyi yo gye weebagadde ebbanga lyonna n’okutuusa ku lunaku lwa leero? Ebadde mpisa yange okukukola bwe nti?” Balamu n’addamu nti, “Nedda.”
31 And YHWH uncovers the eyes of Balaam, and he sees the Messenger of YHWH standing in the way with His drawn sword in His hand, and he bows and pays respect, to his face;
Awo Mukama Katonda n’alyoka azibula amaaso ga Balamu, n’alaba malayika wa Mukama ng’ayimiridde wakati mu kkubo n’ekitala ekisowoddwa nga kiri mu mukono gwe. N’awunzika omutwe gwe, ne yeevuunika wansi n’avuunama.
32 and the Messenger of YHWH says to him, “Why have you struck your donkey these three times? Behold, I have come out for an adversary, for [your] way has been perverse before Me,
Malayika wa Mukama Katonda n’amugamba nti, “Lwaki endogoyi ogikubye emirundi egyo gyonsatule? Laba, nzize okukuziyiza kubanga ekkubo ly’okutte terinsanyusa.
33 and the donkey sees Me and turns aside at My presence these three times; unless she had turned aside from My presence, surely I had also slain you now, and kept her alive.”
Endogoyi yandabye n’enneebalama emirundi egyo esatu. Singa teyanneebalamye, nandibadde ggwe nkusse, naye yo nga ngirese.”
34 And Balaam says to the Messenger of YHWH, “I have sinned, for I did not know that You [are] standing to meet me in the way; and now, if [it is] evil in Your eyes, I turn back by myself.”
Balamu n’agamba malayika wa Mukama Katonda nti, “Nnyonoonye. Saategedde nti ggwe oyimiridde mu kkubo okunziyiza. Kale nno nga kye nkoze bwe kitakusanyusizza, ka nzireyo eka.”
35 And the Messenger of YHWH says to Balaam, “Go with the men; and only the word which I speak to you—it you speak”; and Balaam goes with the princes of Balak.
Malayika wa Mukama Katonda n’agamba Balamu nti, “Genda n’abasajja abo, naye ebigambo bye nnaakulagira bye byokka by’oba oyogera.” Bw’atyo Balamu n’agenda n’abakungu ba Balaki.
36 And Balak hears that Balaam has come, and goes out to meet him, to a city of Moab, which [is] on the border of Arnon, which [is] in the extremity of the border;
Balaki bwe yawulira nga Balamu ajja, n’afuluma okugenda okumusisinkana mu kibuga kya Mowaabu ekiri ku nsalo ya Alumoni, ku nkomerero y’amatwale ge.
37 and Balak says to Balaam, “Did I not diligently send to you to call for you? Why did you not come to me? Am I not truly able to honor you?”
Balaki n’agamba Balamu nti, “Saakutumira nga nkuyita ojje ku bwange? Lwaki tewajja gye ndi? Olowooza siyinza kukuwa bitiibwa bingi?”
38 And Balaam says to Balak, “Behold, I have come to you; now, am I able to speak anything at all? The word which God sets in my mouth—it I speak.”
Balamu n’addamu nti, “Nzuuno kaakano nzize gy’oli! Naye olowooza nnina obuyinza okwogera kyonna kye njagala? Nteekwa okwogera ebyo byokka Katonda by’anassa mu kamwa kange.”
39 And Balaam goes with Balak, and they come to Kirjath-Huzoth,
Bw’atyo Balamu n’agenda ne Balaki ne bajja e Kiriasikuzosi.
40 and Balak sacrifices oxen and sheep, and sends [some] to Balaam and to the princes who [are] with him;
Balaki n’awaayo ekiweebwayo eky’ente n’endiga, n’aweerezaako ne ku Balamu n’abakungu abaali naye.
41 and it comes to pass in the morning, that Balak takes Balaam and causes him to go up [to] the high places of Ba‘al, and he sees the extremity of the people from there.
Enkeera Balaki n’atwala Balamu n’amulinnyisa ku bifo bya Bamosi Baali, n’asinziira awo okulengera ku kitundu eky’abantu ba Isirayiri abaali okumpi.
