Numbers 20
1 And the sons of Israel, all the congregation, come [into] the wilderness of Zin in the first month, and the people abide in Kadesh; and Miriam dies there and is buried there.
El primer mes llegó toda la Congregación de los hijos de Israel al desierto de Sin, y él pueblo estableció su morada en Cades. Allí murió María y allí fue sepultada.
2 And there has been no water for the congregation, and they are assembled against Moses and against Aaron,
Como no hubiese agua para el pueblo, se amotinaron contra Moisés y Aarón.
3 and the people strive with Moses and speak, saying, “And oh that we had expired when our brothers expired before YHWH!
Litigiaba el pueblo con Moisés y decía: “¡Ojalá hubiéramos perecido cuando perecieron nuestros hermanos delante de Yahvé!
4 And why have you brought in the assembly of YHWH to this wilderness to die there, we and our beasts?
¿Por qué habéis conducido al pueblo de Yahvé a este desierto para que muramos aquí nosotros y nuestros ganados?
5 And why have you brought us up out of Egypt to bring us to this evil place? [It is] not a place of seed, and fig, and vine, and pomegranate; and there is no water to drink.”
¿Y por qué nos sacasteis de Egipto para traernos a este lugar tan malo, que no es tierra para sembrar y no produce higueras, ni viñas, ni granados y ni siquiera tiene agua para beber?”
6 And Moses and Aaron go in from the presence of the assembly to the opening of the Tent of Meeting and fall on their faces, and the glory of YHWH is seen by them.
Entonces Moisés y Aarón retirándose del pueblo fueron a la entrada del Tabernáculo de la Reunión, donde se postraron sobre sus rostros; y se les apareció la gloria de Yahvé.
7 And YHWH speaks to Moses, saying,
Y Yahvé habló a Moisés, diciendo:
8 “Take the rod and assemble the congregation—you and your brother Aaron—and you have spoken to the rock before their eyes, and it has given its water, and you have brought out water to them from the rock, and have watered the congregation and their beasts.”
“Toma la vara, y reúne al pueblo, tú y Aarón tu hermano; y en presencia de ellos hablad a la peña, y ella dará sus aguas. Así les sacarás agua de la peña, y darás de beber al pueblo y a sus ganados.”
9 And Moses takes the rod from before YHWH as He has commanded him,
Tomó Moisés la vara de delante de Yahvé, como Él se lo había mandado.
10 and Moses and Aaron assemble the assembly to the front of the rock, and he says to them, “Now hear, O rebels, do we bring out water to you from this rock?”
Y congregando Moisés y Aarón al pueblo frente a la peña, les dijo (Moisés): “Escuchad, rebeldes. ¿Por ventura podremos sacaros agua de esta peña?”
11 And Moses lifts up his hand and strikes the rock with his rod twice; and much water comes out, and the congregation drinks, and their beasts [drink].
Y alzó Moisés la mano, y después de herir la peña dos veces con su vara salieron aguas abundantes; y bebió el pueblo y su ganado.
12 And YHWH says to Moses and to Aaron, “Because you have not believed in Me to sanctify Me before the eyes of the sons of Israel, therefore you do not bring in this assembly to the land which I have given to them.”
Mas Yahvé dijo a Moisés y a Aarón: “Por cuanto no habéis tenido fe en Mí y no me habéis santificado ante los hijos de Israel, no introduciréis este pueblo en la tierra que Yo les he dado.”
13 These [are] the waters of Meribah, because the sons of Israel have “striven” with YHWH, and He is sanctified among them.
Estas son las aguas de Meribá, donde se querellaron los hijos de Israel contra Yahvé; y El les dio una prueba de su santidad.
14 And Moses sends messengers from Kadesh to the king of Edom, “Thus said your brother Israel: You have known all the travail which has found us,
Moisés envió desde Cades mensajeros al rey de Edom, que le dijesen: “Así dice tu hermano Israel: Tú sabes todos los trabajos que nos han sobrevenido;
15 that our fathers go down to Egypt, and we dwell in Egypt [for] many days, and the Egyptians do evil to us and to our fathers;
cómo nuestros padres bajaron a Egipto y hemos habitado mucho tiempo en Egipto, y los egipcios nos maltrataron, a nosotros como a nuestros padres;
16 then we cry to YHWH, and He hears our voice, and sends a Messenger, and is bringing us out of Egypt; and behold, we [are] in Kadesh, a city [in] the extremity of your border.
y clamamos a Yahvé el cual oyó nuestra voz y envió un ángel que nos sacó de Egipto; y henos aquí en Cades, ciudad situada al extremo de tu territorio.
17 Please let us pass over through your land; we do not pass over through a field or through a vineyard, nor do we drink waters of a well; we go the way of the king, we do not turn aside [to] the right or left until we pass over your border.”
Déjanos, por favor, pasar por tu tierra; no pasaremos por los campos ni por las viñas, y no beberemos del agua de los pozos. Marcharemos por el camino real, sin declinar ni a la derecha ni a la izquierda, hasta que hayamos atravesado tu territorio.”
18 And Edom says to him, “You do not pass over through me, lest I come out to meet you with the sword.”
Pero Edom le contestó: “No pasarás por mi (país), no sea que yo salga armado a tu encuentro.”
19 And the sons of Israel say to him, “We go in the highway, and if we drink of your waters—I and my livestock—then I have given their price; only, let me pass over on my feet, nothing [more].”
Los hijos de Israel le respondieron: “Subiremos por el camino trillado, y si bebemos de tus aguas, yo y mi ganado, pagaré lo que cueste. No habrá ninguna dificultad; pasare solamente a pie.”
20 And he says, “You do not pass over”; and Edom comes out to meet him with many people and with a strong hand;
Pero él dijo: “No pasarás.” Y salió Edom a su encuentro con mucha gente y con mano fuerte.
21 and Edom refuses to permit Israel to pass over through his border, and Israel turns aside from off him.
Así negó Edom a Israel el paso por su territorio, por lo cual Israel se apartó de él.
22 And the sons of Israel, all the congregation, journey from Kadesh and come to Mount Hor,
Partiendo de Cades vino todo el pueblo de los hijos de Israel al monte Hor.
23 and YHWH speaks to Moses and to Aaron in Mount Hor, on the border of the land of Edom, saying,
Y Yahvé hablo a Moisés y a Aarón en el monte Hor, en la frontera del país de Edom, diciendo:
24 “Aaron is gathered to his people, for he does not go into the land which I have given to the sons of Israel, because that you provoked My mouth at the waters of Meribah.
“Aarón va a reunirse con su pueblo, porque no podrá entrar en la tierra que he dado a los hijos de Israel; pues fuisteis rebeldes a mis órdenes en las aguas de Meribá.
25 Take Aaron and his son Eleazar, and cause them to go up Mount Hor,
Toma a Aarón y a Eleazar su hijo, y condúcelos al monte Hor;
26 and strip Aaron of his garments, and you have clothed his son Eleazar [with] them, and Aaron is gathered, and dies there.”
y después de despojar a Aarón de sus vestiduras se las vestirás a Eleazar su hijo; y Aarón será recogido y morirá allí.”
27 And Moses does as YHWH has commanded, and they go up to Mount Hor before the eyes of all the congregation,
Moisés hizo como Yahvé había mandado, y a vista de todo el pueblo subieron al monte Hor.
28 and Moses strips Aaron of his garments, and clothes his son Eleazar with them, and Aaron dies there on the top of the mountain; and Moses comes down—Eleazar also—from the mountain,
Y despojó Moisés a Aarón de sus vestiduras y se las vistió a Eleazar su hijo. Murió Aarón allí en la cumbre del monte; luego Moisés y Eleazar descendieron del monte.
29 and all the congregation sees that Aaron has expired, and all the house of Israel laments Aaron [for] thirty days.
Llegó la noticia de la muerte de Aarón a todo el pueblo, y lo lloró toda la casa de Israel durante treinta días.
