Numbers 13
1 And YHWH speaks to Moses, saying,
Yahvé habló a Moisés, diciendo:
2 “Send men for yourself, and they spy out the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the sons of Israel; one man—you send one man for the tribe of his fathers, everyone a prince among them.”
“Envía hombres para que espíen la tierra de Canaán, que yo doy a los hijos de Israel. De cada tribu de sus padres, enviarás un hombre, cada uno de ellos un príncipe entre ellos”.
3 And Moses sends them from the wilderness of Paran by the command of YHWH; all of them [are] men, [and] they are heads of the sons of Israel,
Moisés los envió desde el desierto de Parán, según el mandato de Yahvé. Todos ellos eran hombres que eran jefes de los hijos de Israel.
4 and these [are] their names: for the tribe of Reuben, Shammua son of Zaccur;
Estos eran sus nombres: De la tribu de Rubén, Samua hijo de Zacur.
5 for the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat son of Hori;
De la tribu de Simeón, Safat hijo de Hori.
6 for the tribe of Judah, Caleb son of Jephunneh;
De la tribu de Judá, Caleb hijo de Jefone.
7 for the tribe of Issachar, Igal son of Joseph;
De la tribu de Isacar, Igal hijo de José.
8 for the tribe of Ephraim, Oshea son of Nun;
De la tribu de Efraín, Oseas hijo de Nun.
9 for the tribe of Benjamin, Palti son of Raphu;
De la tribu de Benjamín, Palti, hijo de Rafu.
10 for the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel son of Sodi;
De la tribu de Zabulón, Gadiel hijo de Sodi.
11 for the tribe of Joseph (for the tribe of Manasseh), Gaddi son of Susi;
De la tribu de José, de la tribu de Manasés, Gadi hijo de Susi.
12 for the tribe of Dan, Ammiel son of Gemalli;
De la tribu de Dan, Ammiel hijo de Gemali.
13 for the tribe of Asher, Sethur son of Michael;
De la tribu de Aser, Setur, hijo de Micael.
14 for the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi son of Vopshi;
De la tribu de Neftalí, Nahbi hijo de Vapsi.
15 for the tribe of Gad, Geuel son of Machi.
De la tribu de Gad, Geuel hijo de Maqui.
16 These [are] the names of the men whom Moses has sent to spy out the land; and Moses calls Hoshea son of Nun, Joshua.
Estos son los nombres de los hombres que Moisés envió a espiar la tierra. Moisés llamó Josué a Oseas hijo de Nun.
17 And Moses sends them to spy out the land of Canaan and says to them, “Go up this [way] into the south, and you have gone up the mountain,
Moisés los envió a espiar la tierra de Canaán, y les dijo: “Suban por este camino del sur y suban a la región montañosa.
18 and have seen the land, what it [is], and the people which is dwelling on it, whether it [is] strong or feeble, [and] whether it [is] few or many;
Ved la tierra, cómo es; y el pueblo que la habita, si es fuerte o débil, si es poco o mucho;
19 and what the land [is] in which it is dwelling, whether it [is] good or bad; and what [are] the cities in which it is dwelling, whether in camps or in fortresses.
y cómo es la tierra que habitan, si es buena o mala; y qué ciudades son las que habitan, si en campamentos o en fortalezas;
20 And what the land [is], whether it [is] fat or lean; whether there is wood in it or not; and you have strengthened yourselves, and have taken of the fruit of the land”; now the days [are] days of the first-fruits of grapes.
y cómo es la tierra, si es fértil o pobre, si hay madera en ella o no. Sé valiente y trae algo del fruto de la tierra”. Era el tiempo de las primeras uvas maduras.
21 And they go up and spy out the land, from the wilderness of Zin to Rehob at the going in to Hamath;
Subieron, pues, y reconocieron la tierra desde el desierto de Zin hasta Rehob, hasta la entrada de Hamat.
22 and they go up by the south, and come to Hebron, and there [are] Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, children of Anak (and Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt),
Subieron por el sur y llegaron a Hebrón, donde estaban Ahimán, Sesai y Talmai, hijos de Anac. (Ahora bien, Hebrón fue construida siete años antes que Zoán en Egipto.)
23 and they come to the Brook of Eshcol, and cut down a branch and one cluster of grapes there, and they carry it on a staff by two, also [some] of the pomegranates, and of the figs.
Llegaron al valle de Escol, y cortaron de allí una rama con un racimo de uvas, y la llevaron en un bastón entre dos. También llevaron algunas granadas e higos.
24 That place has been called the Brook of Eshcol, because of the cluster which the sons of Israel cut from there.
Aquel lugar fue llamado valle de Escol, por el racimo que los hijos de Israel cortaron de allí.
25 And they return from spying out the land at the end of forty days.
Volvieron de espiar la tierra al cabo de cuarenta días.
26 And they go and come to Moses, and to Aaron, and to all the congregation of the sons of Israel, to the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh; and they bring them and all the congregation back word, and show them the fruit of the land.
Fueron y vinieron a Moisés, a Aarón y a toda la congregación de los hijos de Israel, al desierto de Parán, a Cades, y les trajeron la noticia a ellos y a toda la congregación. Les mostraron el fruto de la tierra.
27 And they recount to him, and say, “We came to the land to where you have sent us, and it is indeed flowing with milk and honey—and this [is] its fruit;
Ellos se lo contaron y dijeron: “Hemos llegado a la tierra a la que nos enviaste. Ciertamente fluye leche y miel, y éste es su fruto.
28 only, surely the people which is dwelling in the land [is] strong; and the cities are fortified [and] very great; and we have also seen children of Anak there.
Sin embargo, el pueblo que habita la tierra es fuerte, y las ciudades están fortificadas y son muy grandes. Además, vimos allí a los hijos de Anac.
29 Amalek is dwelling in the land of the south, and the Hittite, and the Jebusite, and the Amorite are dwelling in the hill country, and the Canaanite is dwelling by the sea, and by the side of the Jordan.”
Amalec habita en la tierra del Sur. El hitita, el jebuseo y el amorreo habitan en la región montañosa. El cananeo habita junto al mar y al lado del Jordán”.
30 And Caleb stills the people concerning Moses and says, “Let us certainly go up—and we have possessed it; for we are thoroughly able to [do] it.”
Caleb calmó al pueblo ante Moisés y dijo: “¡Subamos de inmediato y tomemos posesión de ella, pues somos capaces de vencerla!”
31 And the men who have gone up with him said, “We are not able to go up against the people, for it [is] stronger than we”;
Pero los hombres que subieron con él dijeron: “No somos capaces de subir contra ese pueblo, porque es más fuerte que nosotros”.
32 and they bring out an evil account of the land which they have spied out to the sons of Israel, saying, “The land into which we passed over to spy it out is a land eating up its inhabitants; and all the people whom we saw in its midst [are] men of stature;
Presentaron a los hijos de Israel un mal informe de la tierra que habían espiado, diciendo: “La tierra por la que hemos pasado para espiarla es una tierra que devora a sus habitantes, y todos los pueblos que vimos en ella son hombres de gran estatura.
33 and there we saw the giants, sons of Anak, of the giants; and we are as grasshoppers in our own eyes—and so we were in their eyes.”
Allí vimos a los Nefilim, los hijos de Anak, que provienen de los Nefilim. Éramos a nuestra vista como saltamontes, y así éramos a su vista”.
