Nehemiah 9

1 And in the twenty-fourth day of this month the sons of Israel have been gathered with fasting, and with sackcloth, and earth on them;

இஸ்ரயேல் மக்கள் அதே மாதமாகிய ஏழாம் மாதம் இருபத்து நான்காம் நாளில், உபவாசித்துத் துக்கவுடை உடுத்தித் தங்கள் தலைகளில் புழுதியைப் போட்டுக்கொண்டு, ஒன்றுகூடி வந்தார்கள்.

2 and the seed of Israel are separated from all sons of a stranger, and stand and confess concerning their sins, and the iniquities of their fathers,

இஸ்ரயேலரின் சந்ததிகள் அந்நியரிலிருந்தும், தங்களை வேறுபிரித்துக் கொண்டார்கள். அவர்கள் எழுந்து நின்று தங்கள் பாவங்களையும், தங்கள் முற்பிதாக்களின் கொடுமையையும் அறிக்கை செய்தார்கள்.

3 and rise up on their station, and read in the Scroll of the Law of their God YHWH a fourth of the day, and a fourth they are confessing and bowing themselves to their God YHWH.

அவர்கள் தாங்கள் நின்ற இடங்களிலேயே நின்றபடி, ஒரு நாளில் கால்பங்கு நேரத்திற்கு தங்கள் இறைவனாகிய யெகோவாவின் சட்டப் புத்தகத்திலிருந்து வாசித்தார்கள். இன்னுமொரு கால்பங்கு நேரத்திற்குத் தங்கள் பாவங்களை அறிக்கையிட்டுத் தங்கள் இறைவனாகிய யெகோவாவை வழிபட்டார்கள்.

4 And there stand up on the ascent, of the Levites, Jeshua, and Bani, Kadmiel, Shebaniah, Bunni, Sherebiah, Bani, Chenani, and they cry with a loud voice to their God YHWH.

படிக்கட்டுகளில் யெசுவா, பானி, கத்மியேல், செபனியா, புன்னி, செரெபியா, பானி, கெனானி ஆகிய லேவியர்கள் நின்று தங்கள் இறைவனாகிய யெகோவாவை நோக்கிப் பலத்த சத்தமாய் வழிபட்டார்கள்.

5 And the Levites say, [even] Jeshua, and Kadmiel, Bani, Hashabniah, Sherebiah, Hodijah, Shebaniah, Pethahiah, “Rise, bless your God YHWH, From age to age, And they bless the Name of Your glory That [is] exalted above all blessing and praise.

அதன்பின் லேவியரான யெசுவா, கத்மியேல், பானி, ஆசாப்நெயா, செரெபியா, ஒதியா, செபனியா, பெத்தகியா ஆகியோர் மக்களைப் பார்த்து, “நீங்கள் எழுந்து நின்று, நித்தியத்திலிருந்து நித்தியம்வரை இருக்கிற உங்கள் இறைவனாகிய யெகோவாவைத் துதியுங்கள்” என்றார்கள். அப்பொழுது அவர்கள் எழுந்து நின்று சொன்னதாவது: “மகிமையுள்ள உமது பெயர் துதிக்கப்படுவதாக; அது எல்லா ஆசீர்வாதத்திற்கும், துதிக்கும் மேலாய் உயர்த்தப்படுவதாக.

6 You [are] He, O YHWH, Yourself—You have made the heavens, The heavens of the heavens, and all their host, The earth and all that [are] on it, The seas and all that [are] in them, And You are keeping all of them alive, And the host of the heavens are bowing themselves to You.

நீர் ஒருவரே யெகோவா; நீர் வானங்களையும், வானங்களுக்கு மேலான வானங்களையும், நட்சத்திரக் கூட்டங்களையும், பூமியையும், அதில் உள்ளவற்றையும், கடல்களையும் அவற்றிலுள்ள எல்லாவற்றையும் படைத்தீர். அவை யாவற்றுக்கும் நீரே உயிரையும் கொடுத்திருக்கிறீர். வானத்தின் சேனை யாவும் உம்மை வழிபடுகின்றன.

7 You [are] He, O YHWH God, Who fixed on Abraham, And brought him out from Ur of the Chaldeans, And made his name Abraham,

“ஆபிராமைத் தெரிந்தெடுத்து, கல்தேயரின் தேசமாகிய ஊர் பட்டணத்திலிருந்து அவனைக் கொண்டுவந்து, அவனுக்கு ஆபிரகாம் என்ற பெயரைக் கொடுத்த இறைவனாகிய யெகோவா நீரே.

8 And found his heart steadfast before You, So as to make with him the covenant, To give the land of the Canaanite, The Hittite, the Amorite, and the Perizzite, and the Jebusite, and the Girgashite, To give [it] to his seed. And You establish Your words, For You [are] righteous,

அவனின் இருதயம் உமக்கு உண்மையாய் இருந்ததை நீர் கண்டீர். அதனால் கானானியர், ஏத்தியர், எமோரியர், பெரிசியர், எபூசியர், கிர்காசியர் ஆகியோருடைய நாட்டை அவனுடைய சந்ததிகளுக்குக் கொடுப்பதாக அவனுடன் ஒரு உடன்படிக்கை செய்தீர். நீர் நீதியுள்ள இறைவனாயிருப்பதால் சொன்ன வாக்கை நிறைவேற்றினீர்.

9 And see the affliction of our fathers in Egypt, And their cry have heard by the Sea of Suph,

“எங்கள் முற்பிதாக்கள் எகிப்தில் பட்ட வேதனையை நீர் பார்த்தீர்; செங்கடலில் அவர்கள் இட்ட கூக்குரலையும் கேட்டீர்.

10 And give signs and wonders on Pharaoh, And on all his servants, And on all the people of his land, For You have known that they have acted proudly against them, And You make to Yourself a name as [at] this day.

பார்வோனும், அவனுடைய அதிகாரிகளும், அவனுடைய நாட்டின் எல்லா மக்களும் எங்கள் முற்பிதாக்களை மிக ஆணவத்துடன் நடத்தியதை நீர் அறிந்தீர். அவர்களுக்கெதிராக அற்புத அடையாளங்களையும், அதிசயங்களையும் நடப்பித்து, நீர் உமக்கே பெயரை உண்டாக்கினீர்; அது இன்றுவரைக்கும் நிலைத்திருக்கிறது.

11 And You have cleaved the sea before them, And they pass over into the midst of the sea on the dry land, And their pursuers You have cast into the depths, As a stone, into the strong waters.

நீர் அவர்களின் முன் கடலைப் பிரித்தீர். எனவே அவர்கள் உலர்ந்த தரையில் நடந்துபோனார்கள். ஆனால் அவர்களைப் பின்தொடர்ந்தவர்களை வெள்ளத்தினுள் ஒரு கல்லைப் போடுவதுபோல எறிந்து விட்டீர்.

12 And by a pillar of cloud You have led them by day, And by a pillar of fire by night, To lighten to them the way in which they go.

பகலில் அவர்களை மேகத்தூணினாலும், இரவில் அவர்கள் போகவேண்டிய வழியில் வெளிச்சம் கொடுப்பதற்காக நெருப்புத்தூணினாலும் வழிநடத்தினீர்.

13 And on Mount Sinai You have come down, Even to speak with them from the heavens, And You give to them right judgments, And true laws, good statutes and commands.

“நீர் சீனாய் மலையின்மேல் வந்து இறங்கினீர், நீர் வானத்திலிருந்து அவர்களுடன் பேசினீர். அவர்களுக்கு நீதியும் நியாயமுமான ஒழுங்குவிதிகளையும், சட்டங்களையும், நலமான விதிமுறைகளையும், கட்டளைகளையும் கொடுத்தீர்.

14 And Your holy Sabbath You have made known to them, And commands, and statutes, and law, You have commanded for them, By the hand of Your servant Moses;

நீர் உமது பரிசுத்த ஓய்வுநாளையும், அவர்களுக்குத் தெரியப்படுத்தி, உமது அடியவனான மோசே மூலம் கட்டளைகளையும், விதிமுறைகளையும், சட்டங்களையும் அவர்களுக்குக் கொடுத்தீர்.

15 And bread from the heavens You have given to them for their hunger, And water from a rock have brought out to them for their thirst, And say to them to go in to possess the land That You have lifted up Your hand to give to them.

அவர்களின் பசியைத் தீர்க்க வானத்திலிருந்து அப்பத்தைக் கொடுத்தீர், அவர்களின் தாகத்தைத் தீர்ப்பதற்கு கற்பாறையிலிருந்து தண்ணீரையும் வரச்செய்தீர். மேலும் அவர்களுக்குக் கொடுப்பதாக நீர் உமது உயர்த்திய கரத்தினால் வாக்குப்பண்ணிய நாட்டிற்குப்போய், அதை உரிமையாக்கிக்கொள்ளும்படி அவர்களுக்குச் சொன்னீர்.

16 And they and our fathers have acted proudly, And harden their neck, And have not listened to Your commands,

“ஆனால் எங்கள் முற்பிதாக்களான அவர்கள், அகந்தையும் பிடிவாதமும் உள்ளவர்களாய் உமது கட்டளைகளுக்குக் கீழ்ப்படியவில்லை.

17 Indeed, they refuse to listen, And have not remembered Your wonders that You have done with them, And harden their neck and appoint a head, To turn back to their service, in their rebellion; And You [are] a God of pardons, Gracious, and merciful, long-suffering, and abundant in kindness, And have not forsaken them.

அவர்கள் உமக்குச் செவிகொடுக்க மறுத்து, நீர் அவர்கள் நடுவில் நடப்பித்த அற்புதங்களையும் நினைவிற்கொள்ளத் தவறினார்கள். அவர்கள் பிடிவாதமுள்ளவர்களாகி, கலகம்பண்ணி, தங்கள் அடிமைத்தன வாழ்விற்குத் திரும்பிப்போகும்படி ஒரு தலைவனையும் நியமித்தார்கள். ஆனாலும் நீர் மன்னிக்கிறவரும், கிருபையுள்ளவரும், கருணையுள்ளவரும், கோபிப்பதற்குத் தாமதிப்பவரும், நேர்மையான அன்பில் நிறைந்தவருமான இறைவனாயிருக்கிறீர். அதனால் அவர்களை நீர் கைவிடவில்லை.

18 Also, when they have made to themselves a molten calf, And say, This [is] your god That brought you up out of Egypt, And do great despisings,

அவர்கள் தங்களுக்கென ஒரு கன்றுக்குட்டியின் உருவச்சிலையை வார்ப்பித்து, ‘எகிப்திலிருந்து உங்களைக் கொண்டுவந்த தெய்வம் இதுதான்’ என்று கூறி பயங்கரமான இறை நிந்தையைச் செய்தபோதுங்கூட நீர் அவர்களைக் கைவிடவில்லை.

19 and You, in Your abundant mercies, Have not forsaken them in the wilderness—The pillar of the cloud has not turned aside from off them by day, To lead them in the way, And the pillar of the fire by night, To give light to them and the way in which they go.

“உமது மிகுந்த கருணையினால் நீர் எங்கள் முற்பிதாக்களைப் பாலைவனத்தில் கைவிடவில்லை. பகலில் அவர்களை வழிநடத்திவந்த மேகத்தூணும் அவர்களுக்குப் பாதை காட்டாமல் விடவில்லை; இரவில் நெருப்புத்தூணும் அவர்கள் போகவேண்டிய பாதைக்கு வெளிச்சம் கொடுக்காமல் விடவில்லை.

20 And Your good Spirit You have given, To cause them to act wisely; And Your manna You have not withheld from their mouth, And water You have given to them for their thirst,

அவர்களை அறிவுறுத்தும்படி உமது நல்ல ஆவியானவரையும் கொடுத்தீர். அவர்களின் வாயிலிருந்து உமது மன்னாவையும் விலக்கவில்லை, தாகத்துக்குத் தண்ணீரையும் கொடுத்தீர்.

21 And forty years You have nourished them in a wilderness; They have not lacked; Their garments have not worn out, And their feet have not swelled.

நாற்பது வருடங்களாக வனாந்திரத்தில் அவர்களை ஆதரித்தீர்; அவர்களுக்கு ஒன்றும் குறைவாய் இருக்கவில்லை. அவர்களின் உடைகள் பழைமையாகவுமில்லை, கால்கள் வீங்கவுமில்லை.

22 And You give to them kingdoms, and peoples, And apportion them to the corner, And they possess the land of Sihon, And the land of the king of Heshbon, And the land of Og king of Bashan.

“எங்கள் முற்பிதாக்களுக்கு அரசாட்சிகளையும், நாடுகளையும் கொடுத்து, மிகத் தூரமான எல்லைகளையும் பங்காக நியமித்தீர். அப்பொழுது அவர்கள் எஸ்போனின் அரசனான சீகோனின் நாட்டையும், பாசானின் அரசனான ஓகு என்பவனின் நாட்டையும் தங்களுக்கு உரிமையாக்கிக்கொண்டார்கள்.

23 And You have multiplied their sons as the stars of the heavens, And bring them into the land That You have said to their fathers to go in to possess.

அவர்களுடைய மகன்களை ஆகாயத்து நட்சத்திரங்களைப்போல் பெருகவும் செய்தீர். அத்துடன் அவர்களுடைய முற்பிதாக்களுக்கு உரிமையாக்கிக்கொள்ளும்படி நீர் சொன்ன நாட்டிற்கு அவர்களைக் கொண்டுவந்தீர்.

24 And the sons come in, and possess the land, And You humble the inhabitants of the land—the Canaanites—before them, And give them into their hand, and their kings, And the peoples of the land, To do with them according to their pleasure.

அவர்களுடைய பிள்ளைகள் அவ்வாறே போய், அந்த நாட்டை உரிமையாக்கிக்கொண்டார்கள். மேலும் அந்நாட்டில் வாழ்ந்த கானானியரை இவர்களுக்கு முன்பாகக் கீழ்ப்படுத்தினீர். உமது மக்கள் தாம் விரும்பியதைக் கானானியருக்குச் செய்யும்படியாக, கானானியரையும், அந்த நாட்டின் அரசரையும், அங்கு வாழ்ந்த மக்களையும் அவர்கள் கையிலே கொடுத்தீர்.

25 And they capture fortified cities, and fat ground, And possess houses full of all good, Dug-wells, vineyards, and olive-yards, And fruit-trees in abundance, And they eat, and are satisfied, And become fat, And delight themselves in Your great goodness.

அப்பொழுது அவர்கள் அரண்களால் பாதுகாக்கப்பட்ட நகரங்களையும், செழிப்பான நாட்டையும் கைப்பற்றினார்கள். எல்லா விதமான நல்ல பொருட்களையும் உள்ளடக்கிய வீடுகள், தோண்டப்பட்ட கிணறுகள், திராட்சைத் தோட்டங்கள், ஒலிவத்தோப்புகள், பெருந்தொகையான பழமரங்கள் ஆகியவற்றையும் அவர்கள் உரிமையாக்கிக்கொண்டார்கள். இதனால் அவர்கள் திருப்தியாய்ச் சாப்பிட்டு, கொழுத்து, உமது மகத்தான நன்மையில் மகிழ்ந்தார்கள்.

26 And they are disobedient, And rebel against You, And cast Your law behind their back, And Your prophets they have slain, Who testified against them, To bring them back to You, And they do great despisings,

“ஆயினும், எங்கள் முற்பிதாக்கள் உமக்குக் கீழ்ப்படியாமல் உமக்கு எதிராகக் கலகம் உண்டாக்கினார்கள்; உமது சட்டத்தையும் புறம்பே தள்ளிவிட்டார்கள். உம்மிடத்திற்கு மறுபடியும் திரும்பிவரும்படி அவர்களை எச்சரித்த உமது இறைவாக்கினரையும் கொன்றுபோட்டார்கள்; பயங்கரமான அக்கிரமங்களைச் செய்வதில் அவர்கள் ஈடுபட்டார்கள்.

27 And You give them into the hand of their adversaries, And they distress them, And in the time of their distress they cry to You, And You, from the heavens, hear, And according to Your abundant mercies, Give saviors to them, And they save them out of the hand of their adversaries.

இதனால் அவர்களை ஒடுக்குகிறப் பகைவர்களிடத்தில் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தீர். ஆயினும் அவர்கள் ஒடுக்கப்பட்டபோது, உம்மை நோக்கிக் கூப்பிட்டார்கள். நீர் பரலோகத்திலிருந்து கேட்டு, உமது மிகுந்த இரக்கத்தினால் அவர்களுக்கு மீட்பர்களைக் கொடுத்தீர். அவர்கள் உம்முடைய மக்களைத் தங்கள் பகைவர்களின் கைகளிலிருந்து தப்புவித்தார்கள்.

28 And when they have rest, They turn back to do evil before You, And You leave them in the hand of their enemies, And they rule over them; And they return, and call You, And You hear from the heavens, And deliver them many times, According to Your mercies,

“ஆனாலும் எங்கள் முற்பிதாக்களுக்கு அமைதியுண்டானபோது, திரும்பவும் உமது பார்வையில் தீமையையே செய்தார்கள். அப்பொழுது அவர்களை அவர்களின் பகைவர்களின் கைகளிலேயே விட்டீர், பகைவர்கள் அவர்களை ஆளுகை செய்தார்கள். அவர்கள் திரும்பவும் உம்மை நோக்கிக் கூப்பிட்டபோது, நீர் பரலோகத்திலிருந்து அவர்களுக்குச் செவிகொடுத்து, உம்முடைய பெரிதான இரக்கத்தின்படி திரும்பதிரும்ப விடுவித்தீர்.

29 And testify against them, To bring them back to Your law; And they have acted proudly, And have not listened to Your commands, And against Your judgments have sinned—Which man does and has lived in them—And they give a stubborn shoulder, And have hardened their neck, And have not listened.

“உமது சட்டத்தின்படி நடக்கத் திரும்பும்படி எச்சரித்தீர்; ஆனால் அவர்களோ, மிகவும் இறுமாப்பாய் நடந்து, உமது கட்டளைகளுக்குக் கீழ்ப்படியாமல் போனார்கள். உமது விதிமுறைகளுக்கு ஒருவன் கீழ்ப்படிந்தால், அவன் வாழ்வைப் பெறுவான் என்பதை அறிந்தும், அவர்களோ உமது விதிமுறைகளுக்கு எதிராய் பாவம் செய்தார்கள். பிடிவாதமாய் அவர்கள் தங்கள் முதுகை உமக்குத் திருப்பி அடங்காதவர்களாய் உமக்குச் செவிசாய்க்காமல் போனார்கள்.

30 And You draw over them many years, And testify against them by Your Spirit, By the hand of Your prophets, And they have not given ear, And You give them into the hand of peoples of the lands,

அவ்வாறிருந்தும் நீர் அநேக வருடங்களாக அவர்களுடன் பொறுமையாயிருந்தீர். உமது இறைவாக்கினரைக்கொண்டு உமது ஆவியானவரினால் அவர்களை எச்சரித்தீர். ஆயினும், அவர்கள் அதைக் கவனத்தில் கொள்ளவில்லை; ஆகையினால் அயலவர்களான மக்கள் கூட்டங்களின் கையில் அவர்களை ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தீர்.

31 and in Your abundant mercies You have not made them a consumption, Nor have forsaken them; For a God, gracious and merciful, [are] You.

நீர் உமது பெரிதான இரக்கத்தின் நிமித்தம் மீண்டும் அவர்களை முற்றுமாய் அழிக்கவோ, கைவிடவோ இல்லை; ஏனெனில் நீர் கிருபையும், இரக்கமுமுள்ள இறைவனாயிருக்கிறீர்.

32 And now, O our God—God, the great, the mighty, And the fearful, Keeping the covenant and the kindness—Do not let all the travail that has found us be little before You, For our kings, for our heads, and for our priests, And for our prophets, and for our fathers, And for all Your people, From the days of the kings of Asshur to this day;

“ஆகையினால் இப்பொழுதும் எங்கள் இறைவனே, வல்லமைமிக்கவரும், மகத்துவமும், பிரமிக்கத்தக்கவருமான இறைவனே, உமது அன்பின் உடன்படிக்கைகளைக் காக்கிறவரே, அசீரியா அரசனின் நாட்களிலிருந்து இன்றுவரை எங்கள்மேலும், எங்கள் அரசர்கள்மேலும், எங்கள் தலைவர்கள்மேலும், ஆசாரியர்கள்மேலும், இறைவாக்கினர்மேலும், எங்கள் முற்பிதாக்கள்மேலும், மற்றும் உமது எல்லா மக்கள்மேலும் வந்த இந்தத் துன்பங்களை உமது பார்வையில் அற்பமாய் எண்ணாமலிரும்.

33 And You [are] righteous concerning all that has come on us, For You have done truth, And we have done wickedly;

எங்களுக்கு ஏற்பட்டுள்ள எல்லாவற்றிலும் நீர் நீதியுள்ளவராய் இருந்தீர், நீர் உண்மையாக நடந்துகொண்டீர்; நாங்களோ தீமை செய்தோம்.

34 And our kings, our heads, Our priests, and our fathers, Have not done Your law, Nor attended to Your commands, And to Your testimonies, That You have testified against them;

எங்கள் அரசர்களும், தலைவர்களும், ஆசாரியரும், முற்பிதாக்களும் உமது சட்டத்தைப் பின்பற்றவில்லை. நீர் அவர்களுக்குக் கொடுத்த எச்சரிக்கைகளையும் கட்டளைகளையும் அவர்கள் கவனத்தில் கொள்ளவில்லை.

35 And they, in their kingdom, And in Your abundant goodness, That You have given to them, And in the land, the large and the fat, That You have set before them, Have not served You, Nor turned back from their evil doings.

நீர் அவர்களுக்குக் கொடுத்த விசாலமும் செழிப்புமான நாட்டில், மிகுதியான நன்மைகளை அனுபவித்து, தங்கள் அரசில் இருந்தபோதுங்கூட அவர்கள் உமக்குப் பணிவிடை செய்யவில்லை; தங்கள் தீமையான வழிகளைவிட்டு விலகவுமில்லை.

36 Behold, we—today—[are] servants, And the land that You have given to our fathers, To eat its fruit and its good, Behold, we [are] servants on it,

“ஆனால் பாரும், நீர் இந்த நாட்டை அதன் நல்ல பழங்களையும், அதன் நல்ல உற்பத்திப் பொருட்களையும் சாப்பிடும்படி எங்கள் முற்பிதாக்களுக்குக் கொடுத்தீர்; நீர் அவர்களுக்குக் கொடுத்த நாட்டில் நாங்கள் இன்று அடிமைகளாயிருக்கிறோம்.

37 And its increase it is multiplying to the kings Whom You have set over us In our sins; And over our bodies they are ruling, And over our livestock, According to their pleasure, And we [are] in great distress.

எங்கள் பாவங்களின் காரணமாக, எங்கள் நிறைவான விளைச்சல், நீர் எங்கள்மேல் வைத்த அரசர்களுக்குப் போகிறது. அவர்கள் தாம் விரும்பியபடி எங்கள் உடல்கள்மேலும், எங்கள் மந்தைகள்மேலும் ஆளுகைசெய்கிறார்கள். இதனால் நாங்கள் பெரிய துன்பத்தில் இருக்கிறோம்.

38 And for all this we are making a steadfast covenant, And are writing, And over him who is sealed [Are] our heads, our Levites, [and] our priests.”

“இவை எல்லாவற்றின் நிமித்தமாகவும் ஒரு உறுதியான ஒப்பந்தம் செய்து அதை நாங்கள் எழுதி வைக்கிறோம். எங்கள் தலைவர்களும், லேவியரும், ஆசாரியரும் அதில் தங்கள் முத்திரைகளைப் பதித்திருக்கிறார்கள்.”
