Nehemiah 8
1 And all the people are gathered as one man to the broad place that [is] before the Water Gate, and they say to Ezra the scribe to bring the Scroll of the Law of Moses, that YHWH commanded Israel.
Họ kéo về họp tại công trường trước cổng Nước. Họ xin văn sĩ E-xơ-ra đem kinh luật Môi-se đến, tức luật Chúa Hằng Hữu truyền cho Ít-ra-ên.
2 And Ezra the priest brings the Law before the assembly, both of men and women, and everyone intelligent to hear, on the first day of the seventh month,
Ngày mồng một tháng bảy, Thầy Tế lễ E-xơ-ra đem Kinh Luật ra trước toàn dân, gồm cả nam lẫn nữ và tất cả những người có thể nghe và hiểu được.
3 and he reads in it before the broad place that [is] before the Water Gate, from the light until the middle of the day, in front of the men, and the women, and those intelligent, and the ears of all the people [are] toward the Scroll of the Law.
Vậy, tại công trường trước Cổng Nước, Ê-xơ-ra đọc trước mặt toàn dân, bắt đầu từ sáng sớm cho đến trưa. Mọi người chăm chú lắng nghe đọc Kinh Luật.
4 And Ezra the scribe stands on a tower of wood that they made for the purpose, and Mattithiah stands near him, and Shema, and Anaiah, and Urijah, and Hilkiah, and Maaseiah, on his right; and on his left Pedaiah, and Mishael, and Malchijah, and Hashum, and Hashbaddana, Zechariah, Meshullam.
E-xơ-ra đứng trên một cái bục gỗ mới đóng để dùng trong dịp này. Đứng bên phải ông có Ma-ti-thia, Sê-ma, A-na-gia, U-ri, Hinh-kia, và Ma-a-xê-gia; bên trái có Phê-đa-gia, Mi-sa-ên, Manh-ki-gia, Ha-sum, Hách-ba-đa-na, Xa-cha-ri, và Mê-su-lam.
5 And Ezra opens the scroll before the eyes of all the people—for he has been above all the people—and at his opening [it] all the people have stood up,
Vì E-xơ-ra đứng cao hơn mọi người, nên khi ông mở sách ra, ai nấy đều thấy và đứng lên.
6 and Ezra blesses YHWH, the great God, and all the people answer, “Amen, Amen,” with lifting up of their hands, and they bow and pay respect to YHWH—faces to the earth.
E-xơ-ra tôn ngợi Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời vĩ đại, toàn dân đưa tay lên trời, đáp ứng: “A-men!” Rồi họ quỳ mọp xuống đất thờ lạy Chúa Hằng Hữu.
7 And Jeshua, and Bani, and Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodijah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Levites, giving the people understanding in the Law, and the people, [are] on their station,
Sau đó, dân chúng vẫn ở tại chỗ để nghe người Lê-vi—Giê-sua, Ba-ni, Sê-rê-bia, Gia-min, A-cúp, Sa-bê-thai, Hô-đia, Ma-a-xê-gia, Kê-li-ta, A-xa-ria, Giô-xa-bát, Ha-nan, Bê-la-gia—đọc từng điều luật và giải thích rõ ràng.
8 and they read in the Scroll, in the Law of God, explaining—so as to give the meaning, and they give understanding to the convocation.
Họ đọc Kinh Luật của Đức Chúa Trời, đọc và giải nghĩa từng phân đoạn cho nên dân chúng hiểu được ý nghĩa.
9 And Nehemiah—he [is] the Tirshatha—says (and Ezra the priest, the scribe, and the Levites who are instructing the people) to all the people, “Today is holy to your God YHWH, do not mourn, nor weep”: for all the people are weeping at their hearing the words of the Law.
Vì cả dân chúng đều khóc nức nở. Thấy thế, Tổng trấn Nê-hê-mi, Thầy Tế lễ E-xơ-ra, và những người Lê-vi đang giảng giải luật pháp bảo họ: “Xin anh chị em đừng than khóc, vì hôm nay là một ngày thánh dành cho Chúa Hằng Hữu.
10 And he says to them, “Go, eat fat things, and drink sweet things, and send portions to him for whom nothing is prepared, for today [is] holy to our Lord, and do not be grieved, for the joy of YHWH is your strength.”
Nhưng anh chị em nên đem thịt béo, rượu ngọt ra ăn mừng, và chia sẻ thịt rượu với những người nghèo thiếu, vì nguồn vui đến từ Chúa là năng lực của chúng ta. Đừng ai phiền muộn nữa.”
11 And the Levites are keeping all the people silent, saying, “Be silent, for today [is] holy, and do not be grieved.”
Như thế, người Lê-vi an ủi toàn dân; và họ thôi khóc lóc.
12 And all the people go to eat, and to drink, and to send portions, and to make great joy, because they have understood concerning the words that they made known to them.
Mọi người chuẩn bị ăn mừng và gửi một phần thực phẩm cho người nghèo thiếu. Họ cùng nhau hoan hỉ vì đã hiểu được lời Đức Chúa Trời.
13 And on the second day have been gathered heads of the fathers of all the people, the priests, and the Levites, to Ezra the scribe, even to act wisely concerning the words of the Law.
Qua ngày hôm sau, các trưởng tộc họ, thầy tế lễ và người Lê-vi đến gặp E-xơ-ra để học hỏi luật lệ cặn kẽ hơn.
14 And they find written in the Law that YHWH commanded by the hand of Moses, that the sons of Israel dwell in shelters in the celebration, in the seventh month,
Họ thấy trong đoạn quy định về lễ Lều Tạm, Chúa Hằng Hữu có truyền dạy Môi-se bảo người Ít-ra-ên phải ở trong nhà lều khi cử hành lễ vào tháng bảy
15 and that they proclaim and cause to pass over all their cities (and in Jerusalem), saying, “Go out to the mountain, and bring leaves of the olive, and leaves of the oil tree, and leaves of the myrtle, and leaves of the palms, and leaves of thick trees, to make shelters as it is written.”
và phải truyền dân chúng trong khắp các thành thị cũng như trong Giê-ru-sa-lem lên đồi chặt cành lá ô-liu, lá sim, lá chà là, và những cành cây có nhiều lá khác để làm lều.
16 And the people go out, and bring in, and make for themselves shelters, each on his roof, and in their courts, and in the courts of the house of God, and in the broad place of the Water Gate, and in the broad place of the Gate of Ephraim.
Ai nấy đổ xô đi lấy lá. Người ta dựng lều trên mái nhà, trong sân nhà mình, ngay sân Đền Thờ Đức Chúa Trời, tại công trường bên Cổng Nước và công trường bên Cổng Ép-ra-im.
17 And they make—all the assembly of the captives of the captivity—shelters, and they sit in shelters; for the sons of Israel had not done, from the days of Jeshua son of Nun, so to that day, and there is very great joy.
Những người Ít-ra-ên lưu đày trở về đều dựng lều dự lễ. Họ khấp khởi vui mừng, vì từ thời Giô-suê, con của Nun, đến nay, người Ít-ra-ên không có dịp ăn mừng lễ Lều Tạm như thế.
18 And he reads in the Scroll of the Law of God day by day, from the first day until the last day, and they make a celebration seven days, and on the eighth day a restraint, according to the ordinance.
Suốt bảy ngày lễ, E-xơ-ra tiếp tục đọc Kinh Luật Đức Chúa Trời. Đến ngày thứ tám, có một lễ trọng thể, đúng theo luật định.
