Nehemiah 7

1 And it comes to pass, when the wall has been built, that I set up the doors, and the gatekeepers are appointed, and the singers, and the Levites,

Or, après que le mur fut construit, et que j’eus posé les battants, et que j’eus recensé les portiers, les chantres et les Lévites,

2 and I charge my brother Hanani, and Hananiah head of the palace, concerning Jerusalem—for he [is] as a man of truth, and fearing God above many—

J’ordonnai à Hanani, mon frère, et à Hananias, prince de la maison de Jérusalem (car lui me paraissait comme un homme vrai, et craignant Dieu plus que les autres),

3 and I say to them, “Do not let the gates of Jerusalem be opened until the heat of the sun, and while they are standing by let them shut the doors, and fasten, and appoint guards of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, each at his watch, and each in front of his house.”

Et je leur dis: Que les portes de Jérusalem ne soient point ouvertes jusqu’à la chaleur du soleil. Et, comme ils étaient encore présents, les portes furent fermées et barrées, et je mis pour gardes les habitants de Jérusalem, chacun à son tour, et chacun contre sa maison.

4 And the city [is] broad on both sides, and great, and the people [are] few in its midst, and there are no houses built;

Or la cité était très large et très grande, et le peuple peu nombreux au milieu d’elle, et il n’y avait point de maisons bâties.

5 and my God puts it to my heart, and I gather the nobles, and the prefects, and the people, for the genealogy, and I find a scroll of the genealogy of those coming up at the beginning, and I find written in it:

Et Dieu mit en mon cœur d’assembler les grands, les magistrats et le peuple, pour les recenser; et je trouvai le livre du recensement de ceux qui étaient montés la première fois, et il fut trouvé écrit en ce livre:

6 These [are] sons of the province, those coming up of the captives of the expulsion that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon removed—and they return to Jerusalem and to Judah, each to his city—

Ceux-ci sont les fils de la province qui montèrent de la captivité des émigrants, qu’avait transportés Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, et qui retournèrent à Jérusalem et dans la Judée, chacun dans sa ville.

7 who are coming in with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Azariah, Raamiah, Nahamani, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Nehum, Baanah. The number of the men of the people of Israel:

60 All the Nethinim and the sons of the servants of Solomon [are] three hundred ninety-two.

61 And these [are] those coming up from Tel-Melah, Tel-Harsha, Cherub, Addon, and Immer—and they have not been able to declare the house of their fathers, and their seed, whether they [are] of Israel—

62 sons of Delaiah, sons of Tobiah, sons of Nekoda, six hundred forty-two.

63 And of the priests: sons of Habaiah, sons of Koz, sons of Barzillai (who has taken a wife from the daughters of Barzillai the Gileadite, and is called by their name).

64 These have sought their register among those reckoning themselves by genealogy, and it has not been found, and they are redeemed from the priesthood,

Ceux-ci cherchèrent leur écrit au recensement et ne le trouvèrent pas, et ils furent rejetés du sacerdoce.

65 and the Tirshatha says to them that they do not eat of the most holy things until the standing up of the priest with [the] Lights and Perfections.

Et Athersatha leur dit qu’ils ne mangeraient point de choses très saintes, jusqu’à ce qu’il s’élèverait un prêtre instruit et éclairé.

66 All the assembly together [is] forty-two thousand three hundred and sixty,

Toute la multitude était comme un seul homme, au nombre de quarante-deux mille trois cent soixante,

67 apart from their servants and their handmaids—these [are] seven thousand three hundred thirty-seven; and of them [are] male and female singers, two hundred forty-five.

Sans leurs serviteurs et leurs servantes, qui étaient sept mille trois cent trente-sept; et parmi eux les chantres et les chanteuses, deux cent quarante-cinq;

68 Their horses [are] seven hundred thirty-six; their mules, two hundred [and] forty-five;

Leurs chevaux, sept cent trente-six; leurs mulets, deux cent quarante-cinq;

69 camels, four hundred thirty-five; donkeys, six thousand seven hundred and twenty.

Leurs chameaux, quatre cent trente-cinq; leurs ânes, six mille sept cent vingt.

70 And from the extremity of the heads of the fathers they have given to the work; the Tirshatha has given to the treasure, one thousand drams of gold, fifty bowls, five hundred and thirty priests’ coats.

Or quelques-uns des princes des familles contribuèrent à l’ouvrage. Athersatha donna au trésor mille drachmes d’or, cinquante fioles, et cinq cent trente tuniques sacerdotales,

71 And of the heads of the fathers they have given to the treasure of the work, twenty thousand drams of gold, and two thousand and two hundred pounds of silver.

Et des princes des familles donnèrent au trésor de l’œuvre vingt mille drachmes d’or et deux mille deux cents mines d’argent.

72 And that which the rest of the people have given [is] twenty thousand drams of gold, and two thousand pounds of silver, and sixty-seven priests’ coats.

Et ce que le reste du peuple donna fut vingt mille drachmes d’or, deux mille mines d’argent, et soixante-sept tuniques sacerdotales.

73 And they dwell—the priests, and the Levites, and the gatekeepers, and the singers, and [some] of the people, and the Nethinim, and all Israel—in their cities, and the seventh month comes, and the sons of Israel [are] in their cities.

Et les prêtres, les Lévites, les portiers, les chantres, le reste du peuple, les Nathinéens et tout Israël, habitèrent dans leurs villes.
