Nehemiah 5
1 And there is a great cry of the people and their wives, concerning their brothers the Jews,
Então houve um grande clamor do povo e de suas mulheres contra seus irmãos, os judeus.
2 indeed, there are [those] who are saying, “Our sons, and our daughters, we—are many, and we receive grain, and eat, and live.”
Pois havia quem dizia: Nós, nossos filhos e nossas filhas, somos muitos; por isso tomamos trigo, para que comamos e vivamos.
3 And there are [those] who are saying, “Our fields, and our vineyards, and our houses, we are pledging, and we receive grain for the famine.”
Também havia quem dizia: Colocamos em penhor nossas terras, nossas vinhas, e nossas casas, para comprarmos trigo durante a fome.
4 And there are [those] who are saying, “We have borrowed money for the tribute of the king, [on] our fields, and our vineyards;
E havia quem dizia: Pedimos emprestado até para o tributo do rei [sobre] nossas terras e nossas vinhas.
5 and now, as the flesh of our brothers [is] our flesh, as their sons [are] our sons, and behold, we are subduing our sons and our daughters for servants, and there are [those] of our daughters subdued, and our hand has no might, and our fields and our vineyards [are] to others.”
Agora, pois, nossa carne é como a carne de nossos irmãos, [e] nossos filhos como seus filhos; porém eis que nós sujeitamos nossos filhos e nossas filhas por servos, e até [algumas] de nossas filhas estão subjugadas, que não estão em poder de nossas mãos, e outros têm para si nossas terras e nossas vinhas.
6 And it is very displeasing to me when I have heard their cry and these words,
Quando eu ouvi seu clamor, fiquei muito irado.
7 and my heart reigns over me, and I strive with the nobles, and with the prefects, and say to them, “You are exacting usury on one another”; and I set against them a great assembly,
Então eu meditei em meu coração, e depois briguei com os nobres e com os oficiais, dizendo-lhes: Emprestais com juros cada um a seu irmão? E convoquei contra eles uma grande reunião.
8 and say to them, “We have acquired our brothers the Jews, those sold to the nations, according to the ability that [is] in us, and you also sell your brothers, and they have been sold to us!” And they are silent, and have not found a word.
E disse-lhes: Nós resgatamos nossos irmãos judeus que haviam sido vendidos às nações, conforme o que nos era possível, e vós novamente venderíeis a vossos irmãos, ou seriam eles vendidos a nós? E ficaram calados, e não acharam o que responder.
9 And I say, “The thing that you are doing [is] not good; do you not walk in the fear of our God, because of the reproach of the nations our enemies?
E eu disse mais: Não é bom o que fazeis. Por acaso não andareis no temor a nosso Deus, para que não haja humilhação da parte das nações [que são] nossas inimigas?
10 And also, I, my brothers, and my servants, are exacting silver and grain on them; please let us leave off this usury.
Também eu, meus irmãos, e meus servos, temos lhes emprestado a juros dinheiro e grão. Abandonemos esta cobrança de juros.
11 Please give back to them, as today, their fields, their vineyards, their olive-yards, and their houses, and the hundredth [part] of the money, and of the grain, of the new wine, and of the oil, that you are exacting of them.”
Devolvei a eles hoje mesmo suas terras, suas vinhas, seus olivais, e suas casas; e a centésima parte do dinheiro e do trigo, do vinho e do azeite que exigis deles.
12 And they say, “We give back, and we seek nothing from them; so we do as you are saying.” And I call the priests, and cause them to swear to do according to this thing;
Então disseram: Devolveremos, e nada lhes exigiremos; faremos assim como tu dizes. Então chamei aos sacerdotes, e lhes fiz jurar que fariam conforme esta promessa.
13 also, I have shaken my lap, and I say, “Thus God shakes out every man from his house and from his labor who does not perform this thing; indeed, thus is he shaken out and empty”; and all the assembly says, “Amen,” and praises YHWH; and the people do according to this thing.
Também sacudi minha roupa, e disse: Assim sacuda Deus de sua casa e de seu trabalho a todo homem que não cumprir esta promessa; e assim seja sacudido e esvaziado. E toda a congregação: Amém! E louvaram ao SENHOR. E o povo fez conforme esta promessa.
14 Also, from the day that he appointed me to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year even to the thirty-second year of Artaxerxes the king—twelve years—I, and my brothers, have not eaten the bread of the governor:
Também desde o dia que fui nomeado governador deles na terra de Judá, desde o ano vinte até o ano trinta e dois do rei Artaxerxes, doze anos, nem eu nem meus irmãos comemos o pão do governador.
15 the former governors who [are] before me have made themselves heavy on the people, and take of them in bread and wine, besides forty shekels in silver; also, their servants have ruled over the people—and I have not done so, because of the fear of God.
Mas os primeiros governadores que foram antes de mim, oprimiram ao povo, e tomaram deles pão e pelo vinho, além de quarenta siclos de prata; ainda mais, seus servos dominavam opressivamente sobre o povo; porém eu não fiz assim, por causa do temor a Deus.
16 And also, in the work of this wall I have done mightily, even a field we have not bought, and all my servants are gathered there for the work;
Além disso, concentrei meus esforços na obra deste muro, e não compramos terra alguma; e todos meus servos se ajuntaram ali para a obra.
17 and of the Jews, and of the prefects, one hundred and fifty men, and those coming to us of the nations that [are] around us, [are] at my table;
Também cento e cinquenta homens dos judeus, dos oficiais, e dos que vinha até nós dentre as ns nações que estão ao nosso redor, se punham à minha mesa.
18 and that which has been prepared for one day [is] one ox, six fat sheep, also birds have been prepared for me, and once in ten days of all wines abundantly, and with this, the bread of the governor I have not sought, for heavy is the service on this people.
E o que se preparava para cada dia era um boi, [e] seis ovelhas escolhidas; também preparavam aves para mim, e cada dez dias todas as variedades de muito vinho; e nem por isso exigi o pão do governador, porque a servidão deste povo era grave.
19 Remember for me, O my God, for good, all that I have done for this people.
Lembra-te de mim para o bem, ó meu Deus; [e de] tudo o que fiz a este povo.
