1 [The] scroll of the birth of Jesus Christ, Son of David, Son of Abraham.
ibrAhImaH santAno dAyUd tasya santAno yIshukhrIShTastasya pUrvvapuruShavaMshashreNI|
2 Abraham begot Isaac, and Isaac begot Jacob, and Jacob begot Judah and his brothers,
ibrAhImaH putra ishAk tasya putro yAkUb tasya putro yihUdAstasya bhrAtarashcha|
3 and Judah begot Perez and Zerah of Tamar, and Perez begot Hezron, and Hezron begot Ram,
tasmAd yihUdAtastAmaro garbhe perasserahau jaj nAte, tasya perasaH putro hiShroN tasya putro. arAm|
4 and Ram begot Amminadab, and Amminadab begot Nahshon, and Nahshon begot Salmon,
tasya putro. ammInAdab tasya putro nahashon tasya putraH salmon|
5 and Salmon begot Boaz of Rahab, and Boaz begot Obed of Ruth, and Obed begot Jesse,
tasmAd rAhabo garbhe boyam jaj ne, tasmAd rUto garbhe obed jaj ne, tasya putro yishayaH|
6 and Jesse begot David the king. And David the king begot Solomon, of her [who had been] Uriah’s,
tasya putro dAyUd rAjaH tasmAd mR^itoriyasya jAyAyAM sulemAn jaj ne|
7 and Solomon begot Rehoboam, and Rehoboam begot Abijah, and Abijah begot Asa,
tasya putro rihabiyAm, tasya putro. abiyaH, tasya putra AsA: |
8 and Asa begot Jehoshaphat, and Jehoshaphat begot Joram, and Joram begot Uzziah,
tasya suto yihoshAphaT tasya suto yihorAma tasya suta uShiyaH|
9 and Uzziah begot Jotham, and Jotham begot Ahaz, and Ahaz begot Hezekiah,
tasya suto yotham tasya suta Aham tasya suto hiShkiyaH|
10 and Hezekiah begot Manasseh, and Manasseh begot Amon, and Amon begot Josiah,
tasya suto minashiH, tasya suta Amon tasya suto yoshiyaH|
11 and Josiah begot Jeconiah and his brothers, at the Babylonian removal.
bAbilnagare pravasanAt pUrvvaM sa yoshiyo yikhaniyaM tasya bhrAtR^iMshcha janayAmAsa|
12 And after the Babylonian removal, Jeconiah begot Shealtiel, and Shealtiel begot Zerubbabel,
tato bAbili pravasanakAle yikhaniyaH shaltIyelaM janayAmAsa, tasya sutaH sirubbAvil|
13 and Zerubbabel begot Abiud, and Abiud begot Eliakim, and Eliakim begot Azor,
tasya suto. abohud tasya suta ilIyAkIm tasya suto. asor|
14 and Azor begot Sadok, and Sadok begot Achim, and Achim begot Eliud,
asoraH sutaH sAdok tasya suta AkhIm tasya suta ilIhUd|
15 and Eliud begot Eleazar, and Eleazar begot Matthan, and Matthan begot Jacob,
tasya suta iliyAsar tasya suto mattan|
16 and Jacob begot Joseph, the husband of Mary, of whom was begotten Jesus, who is named Christ.
tasya suto yAkUb tasya suto yUShaph tasya jAyA mariyam; tasya garbhe yIshurajani, tameva khrIShTam (arthAd abhiShiktaM) vadanti|
17 All the generations, therefore, from Abraham to David [are] fourteen generations, and from David to the Babylonian removal fourteen generations, and from the Babylonian removal to the Christ, fourteen generations.
ittham ibrAhImo dAyUdaM yAvat sAkalyena chaturdashapuruShAH; A dAyUdaH kAlAd bAbili pravasanakAlaM yAvat chaturdashapuruShA bhavanti| bAbili pravAsanakAlAt khrIShTasya kAlaM yAvat chaturdashapuruShA bhavanti|
18 And of Jesus Christ, the birth was thus: for His mother Mary having been betrothed to Joseph, before their coming together she was found to have conceived from the Holy Spirit,
yIshukhrIShTasya janma kaththate| mariyam nAmikA kanyA yUShaphe vAgdattAsIt, tadA tayoH sa NgamAt prAk sA kanyA pavitreNAtmanA garbhavatI babhUva|
19 and her husband Joseph being righteous, and not willing to make her an example, resolved to send her away privately.
tatra tasyAH pati ryUShaph saujanyAt tasyAH kala NgaM prakAshayitum anichChan gopanene tAM pArityaktuM manashchakre|
20 And on his thinking of these things, behold, a messenger of the LORD appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, you may not fear to receive your wife Mary, for that which was begotten in her is of [the] Holy Spirit,
sa tathaiva bhAvayati, tadAnIM parameshvarasya dUtaH svapne taM darshanaM dattvA vyAjahAra, he dAyUdaH santAna yUShaph tvaM nijAM jAyAM mariyamam AdAtuM mA bhaiShIH|
21 and she will bring forth a Son, and you will call His Name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”
yatastasyA garbhaH pavitrAdAtmano. abhavat, sA cha putraM prasaviShyate, tadA tvaM tasya nAma yIshum (arthAt trAtAraM) karIShyase, yasmAt sa nijamanujAn teShAM kaluShebhya uddhariShyati|
22 And all this has come to pass, that it may be fulfilled that was spoken by the LORD through the prophet, saying,
itthaM sati, pashya garbhavatI kanyA tanayaM prasaviShyate| immAnUyel tadIya ncha nAmadheyaM bhaviShyati|| immAnUyel asmAkaM sa NgIshvaraityarthaH|
23 “Behold, the virgin will conceive, and she will bring forth a Son, and they will call His Name Emmanuel,” which is, being interpreted, “God with us.”
iti yad vachanaM purvvaM bhaviShyadvaktrA IshvaraH kathAyAmAsa, tat tadAnIM siddhamabhavat|
24 And Joseph, having risen from sleep, did as the messenger of the LORD directed him, and received his wife,
anantaraM yUShaph nidrAto jAgarita utthAya parameshvarIyadUtasya nideshAnusAreNa nijAM jAyAM jagrAha,
25 and did not know her until she brought forth her Son—the firstborn, and he called His Name Jesus.
kintu yAvat sA nijaM prathamasutaM a suShuve, tAvat tAM nopAgachChat, tataH sutasya nAma yIshuM chakre|
