< Matthew 4 >
1 Then Jesus was led up to the wilderness by the Spirit, to be tempted by the Devil,
ⲁ̅ⲧⲟⲧⲉ Ⲓⲏ̅ⲥ̅ ⳿ⲁ ⲡⲓⲡ͞ⲛⲁ̅ ⲟⲗϥ ⳿ⲉ⳿ⲡϣⲁϥⲉ ⳿ⲉ⳿ⲡϫⲓⲛⲧⲉ ⲡⲓⲇⲓ⳿ⲁⲃⲟⲗⲟⲥ ⲉⲣⲡⲓⲣⲁⲍⲓⲛ ⳿ⲙⲙⲟϥ.
2 and having fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He hungered.
ⲃ̅ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⳿ⲉⲧⲁϥⲉⲣⲛⲏⲥⲧⲉⲩⲓⲛ ⳿ⲛⲙ̅ ⳿ⲛ⳿ⲉϩⲟⲟⲩ ⲛⲉⲙ ⲙ̅ ⳿ⲛ⳿ⲉϫⲱⲣϩ ⳿ⲉ⳿ⲡϧⲁ⳿ⲉ ⲇⲉ ⲁϥ⳿ϩⲕⲟ.
3 And the tempting [one], having come to Him, said, “If You are the Son of God—speak that these stones may become loaves.”
ⲅ̅ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲁϥ⳿ⲓ ⳿ⲛϫⲉ ⲫⲏⲉⲧϭⲱⲛⲧ ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ⲛⲁϥ ϫⲉ ⲓⲥϫⲉ ⳿ⲛⲑⲟⲕ ⲡⲉ ⳿ⲡϣⲏⲣⲓ ⳿ⲙⲪϯ ⳿ⲁϫⲟⲥ ϩⲓⲛⲁ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⲛⲁⲓ⳿ⲱⲛⲓ ⲉⲣⲱⲓⲕ.
4 But He answering said, “It has been written: Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word coming forth from the mouth of God.”
ⲇ̅⳿ⲛⲑⲟϥ ⲇⲉ ⲁϥ⳿ⲉⲣⲟⲩ⳿ⲱ ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ⲛⲁϥ ϫⲉ ⳿ⲥ⳿ⲥϧⲏⲟⲩⲧ ϫⲉ ⲛⲁⲣⲉ ⲡⲓⲣⲱⲙⲓ ⲛⲁⲱⲛϧ ⳿ⲉⲱⲓⲕ ⳿ⲙⲙⲁⲩⲁⲧϥ ⲁⲛ ⲁⲗⲗⲁ ⳿ⲉϫⲉⲛ ⲥⲁϫⲓ ⲛⲓⲃⲉⲛ ⲉⲑⲛⲏⲟⲩ ⳿ⲉⲃⲟⲗϧⲉⲛ ⲣⲱϥ ⳿ⲙⲪϯ.
5 Then the Devil takes Him to the [holy] city, and sets Him on the pinnacle of the temple,
ⲉ̅ⲧⲟⲧⲉ ⲁϥⲟⲗϥ ⳿ⲛϫⲉ ⲡⲓⲇⲓ⳿ⲁⲃⲟⲗⲟⲥ ⳿ⲉϯⲃⲁⲕⲓ ⲉⲑⲟⲩⲁⲃ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲁϥⲧⲁϩⲟϥ ⳿ⲉⲣⲁⲧϥ ⳿ⲉϫⲉⲛ ⳿ⲡⲧⲉⲛϩ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⲡⲓⲉⲣⲫⲉⲓ.
6 and says to Him, “If You are the Son of God—cast Yourself down, for it has been written that, His messengers He will charge concerning you, and on hands they will bear you up, that you may not dash your foot on a stone.”
ⲋ̅ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ⲛⲁϥ ϫⲉ ⲓⲥϫⲉ ⳿ⲛⲑⲟⲕ ⲡⲉ ⳿ⲡϣⲏⲣⲓ ⳿ⲙⲪϯ ϩⲓⲧⲕ ⳿ⲉⲡⲉⲥⲏⲧ ⳿ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲧⲁⲓ ⳿ⲥ⳿ⲥϧⲏⲟⲩⲧ ⲅⲁⲣ ϫⲉ ⳿ϥⲛⲁϩⲟⲛϩⲉⲛ ⳿ⲉⲧⲟⲧⲟⲩ ⳿ⲛⲛⲉϥⲁⲅⲅⲉⲗⲟⲥ ⲉⲑⲃⲏⲧⲕ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲉⲩ⳿ⲉϥⲓⲧⲕ ϩⲓϫⲉⲛ ⲛⲟⲩϫⲓϫ ⲙⲏ ⲡⲟⲧⲉ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉⲕϭⲓϭⲣⲟⲡ ⳿ⲉⲟⲩ⳿ⲱⲛⲓ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉⲕϭ ⲁⲗⲟϫ.
7 Jesus said to him again, “It has been written: You will not tempt the LORD your God.”
ⲍ̅ⲁϥ⳿ⲉⲣⲟⲩ⳿ⲱ ⲛⲁϥ ⳿ⲛϫⲉ Ⲓⲏ̅ⲥ̅ ϫⲉ ⲡⲁⲗⲓⲛ ⳿ⲥ⳿ⲥϧⲏⲟⲩⲧ ϫⲉ ⳿ⲛⲛⲉⲕⲉⲣⲡⲓⲣⲁⲍⲓⲛ ⳿ⲙⲠ⳪ ⲡⲉⲕⲛⲟⲩϯ.
8 Again the Devil takes Him to a very high mountain, and shows to Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory,
ⲏ̅ⲡⲁⲗⲓⲛ ⲟⲛ ⲁϥⲟⲗϥ ⳿ⲛϫⲉ ⲡⲓⲇⲓ⳿ⲁⲃⲟⲗⲟⲥ ⳿ⲉϫⲉⲛ ⲟⲩⲧⲱⲟⲩ ⲉϥϭⲟⲥⲓ ⳿ⲉⲙⲁϣⲱ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲁϥⲧⲁⲙⲟϥ ⳿ⲉⲛⲓⲙⲉⲧⲟⲩⲣⲱⲟⲩ ⲧⲏⲣⲟⲩ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⲡⲓⲕⲟⲥⲙⲟⲥ ⲛⲉⲙ ⲡⲟⲩ⳿ⲱⲟⲩ.
9 and says to Him, “All these I will give to You, if falling down You may worship me.”
ⲑ̅ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ⲛⲁϥ ϫⲉ ⲛⲁⲓ ⲧⲏⲣⲟⲩ ϯⲛⲁⲧⲏⲓⲧⲟⲩ ⲛⲁⲕ ⲁⲕϣⲁⲛϩⲓⲧⲕ ⳿ⲉ⳿ϧⲣⲏⲓ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉⲕⲟⲩⲱϣⲧ ⳿ⲙⲙⲟⲓ.
10 Then Jesus says to him, “Go—Satan, for it has been written: You will worship the LORD your God, and Him only will you serve.”
ⲓ̅ⲧⲟⲧⲉ ⲡⲉϫⲉ Ⲓⲏ̅ⲥ̅ ⲛⲁϥ ϫⲉ ⲙⲁϣⲉⲛⲁⲕ ⳿ⲡⲥⲁⲧⲁⲛⲁⲥ ⳿ⲥ⳿ⲥϧⲏⲟⲩⲧ ⲅⲁⲣ ϫⲉ Ⲡ⳪ ⲡⲉⲕⲛⲟⲩϯ ⲡⲉⲧⲉⲕⲉⲟⲩⲱϣⲧ ⳿ⲙⲙⲟϥ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⳿ⲛⲑⲟϥ ⳿ⲙⲙⲁⲩⲁⲧϥ ⲡⲉⲧⲉⲕⲉϣⲉⲙϣⲏⲧϥ.
11 Then the Devil leaves Him, and behold, messengers came and were ministering to Him.
ⲓ̅ⲁ̅ⲧⲟⲧⲉ ⲁϥⲭⲁϥ ⳿ⲛϫⲉ ⲡⲓⲇⲓ⳿ⲁⲃⲟⲗⲟⲥ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲓⲥ ϩⲁⲛⲁⲅⲅⲉⲗⲟⲥ ⲁⲩ⳿ⲓ ⲁⲩϣⲉⲙϣⲓ ⳿ⲙⲙⲟϥ.
12 And Jesus, having heard that John was delivered up, withdrew to Galilee,
ⲓ̅ⲃ̅⳿ⲉⲧⲁϥⲥⲱⲧⲉⲙ ⲇⲉ ⳿ⲛϫⲉ Ⲓⲏ̅ⲥ̅ ϫⲉ ⲁⲩϯ ⳿ⲛⲒⲱⲁⲛⲛⲏⲥ ⲁϥϣⲉⲛⲁϥ ⳿ⲉϯⲄⲁⲗⲓⲗⲉ⳿ⲁ.
13 and having left Nazareth, having come, He dwelt at Capernaum that is by the sea, in the borders of Zebulun and Naphtali,
ⲓ̅ⲅ̅ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲁϥⲭⲱ ⳿ⲛⲚⲁⲍⲁⲣⲉⲑ ⳿ⲛⲥⲱϥ ⲁϥ⳿ⲓ ⲁϥϣⲱⲡⲓ ϧⲉⲛ Ⲕⲁⲫⲁⲣⲛⲁⲟⲩⲙ ⲑⲏⲉⲧ ϩⲓ⳿ⲥⲕⲉⲛ ⳿ⲫⲓⲟⲙ ϧⲉⲛ ⲛⲓϭⲓ⳿ⲏ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ Ⲍⲁⲃⲟⲩⲗⲱⲛ ⲛⲉⲙ Ⲛⲉⲫⲑⲁⲗⲓⲙ.
14 that it might be fulfilled that was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying,
ⲓ̅ⲇ̅ϩⲓⲛⲁ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉϥϫⲱⲕ ⳿ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⳿ⲛϫⲉ ⲫⲏ⳿ⲉⲧⲁϥϫⲟϥ ⳿ⲉⲃⲟⲗϩⲓⲧⲟⲧϥ ⳿ⲛⲎ̇ⲥⲁ⳿ⲏⲁⲥ ⲡⲓ⳿ⲡⲣⲟⲫⲏⲧⲏⲥ ⲉϥϫⲱ ⳿ⲙⲙⲟⲥ.
15 “Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations!
ⲓ̅ⲉ̅ϫⲉ ⳿ⲡⲕⲁϩⲓ ⳿ⲛⲌⲁⲃⲟⲩⲗⲱⲛ ⲛⲉⲙ ⳿ⲡⲕⲁϩⲓ ⳿ⲛⲚⲉⲫⲑⲁⲗⲓⲙ ⲡⲓⲙⲱⲓⲧ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⳿ⲫⲓⲟⲙ ϩⲓⲙⲏⲣ ⳿ⲙⲡⲓⲒⲟⲣⲇⲁⲛⲏⲥ ϯⲄⲁⲗⲓⲗⲉ⳿ⲁ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⲛⲓⲉⲑⲛⲟⲥ.
16 The people that is sitting in darkness saw a great light, and to those sitting in a region and shadow of death—light arose to them.”
ⲓ̅ⲋ̅ⲡⲓⲗⲁⲟⲥ ⲉⲧϩⲉⲙⲥⲓ ϧⲉⲛ ⳿ⲡⲭⲁⲕⲓ ⲁϥⲛⲁⲩ ⳿ⲉⲟⲩⲛⲓϣϯ ⳿ⲛⲟⲩⲱⲓⲛⲓ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲛⲏⲉⲧϩⲉⲙⲥⲓ ϧⲉⲛ ⳿ⲧⲭⲱⲣⲁ ⲛⲉⲙ ⳿ⲧϧⲏⲓⲃⲓ ⳿ⲙ⳿ⲫⲙⲟⲩ ⲟⲩⲟⲩⲱⲓⲛⲓ ⲁϥϣⲁⲓ ⲛⲱⲟⲩ.
17 From that time Jesus began to proclaim and to say, “Convert, for the kingdom of the heavens has come near.”
ⲓ̅ⲍ̅ⲓⲥϫⲉⲛ ⲡⲓⲥⲏⲟⲩ ⳿ⲉⲧⲉ⳿ⲙⲙⲁⲩ ⲁϥⲉⲣϩⲏⲧⲥ ⳿ⲛϫⲉ Ⲓⲏ̅ⲥ̅ ⳿ⲛϩⲓⲱⲓϣ ⲛⲉⲙ ⳿ⲉϫⲟⲥ ϫⲉ ⳿ⲁⲣⲓⲙⲉⲧⲁⲛⲟⲓⲛ ⲁⲥϧⲱⲛⲧ ⲅⲁⲣ ⳿ⲛϫⲉ ϯⲙⲉⲧⲟⲩⲣⲟ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⲛⲓⲫⲏⲟⲩ⳿ⲓ.
18 And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon named Peter and his brother Andrew, casting a drag into the sea—for they were fishers—
ⲓ̅ⲏ̅ⲉϥⲙⲟϣⲓ ⲇⲉ ⳿ⲉ⳿ⲥⲕⲉⲛ ⳿ⲫⲓⲟⲙ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ϯⲄⲁⲗⲓⲗⲉ⳿ⲁ ⲁϥⲛⲁⲩ ⳿ⲉⲥⲟⲛ ⲃ̅ Ⲥⲓⲙⲱⲛ ⲫⲏ⳿⳿ⲉⲧⲟⲩⲙⲟⲩϯ ⳿ⲉⲣⲟϥ ϫⲉ Ⲡⲉⲧⲣⲟⲥ ⲛⲉⲙ Ⲁⲛ⳿ⲇⲣⲉⲁⲥ ⲡⲉϥⲥⲟⲛ ⲉⲩϩⲓ ⳿ϣⲛⲉ ⳿ⲉ⳿ⲫⲓⲟⲙ ⲛⲉ ϩⲁⲛⲟⲩ⳿ⲟϩⲓ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲛⲉ.
19 and He says to them, “Come after Me, and I will make you fishers of men,”
ⲓ̅ⲑ̅ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ⲛⲱⲟⲩ ϫⲉ ⳿ⲁⲙⲱⲓⲛⲓ ⲙⲟϣⲓ ⳿ⲛⲥⲱⲓ ⳿ⲛⲧⲁⲉⲣ ⲑⲏⲛⲟⲩ ⳿ⲛⲟⲩ⳿ⲟϩⲓ ⳿ⲛⲣⲉϥⲧⲁϩⲉ ⲣⲱⲙⲓ.
20 and they, immediately, having left the nets, followed Him.
ⲕ̅⳿ⲛⲑⲱⲟⲩ ⲇⲉ ⲥⲁⲧⲟⲧⲟⲩ ⲁⲩⲭⲱ ⳿ⲛⲛⲟⲩ⳿ϣⲛⲏⲟⲩ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲁⲩⲙⲟϣⲓ ⳿ⲛⲥⲱϥ.
21 And having advanced from there, He saw two other brothers, James of Zebedee, and his brother John, in the boat with their father Zebedee, refitting their nets, and He called them,
ⲕ̅ⲁ̅ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⳿ⲉⲧⲁϥⲥⲓⲛⲓ ⳿ⲉ⳿ⲧϩⲏ ⳿ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⳿ⲙⲙⲁⲩ ⲁϥⲛⲁⲩ ⳿ⲉⲕⲉⲥⲟⲛ ⲃ̅ Ⲓⲁⲕⲱⲃⲟⲥ ⳿ⲡϣⲏⲣⲓ ⳿ⲛⲌⲉⲃⲉⲇⲉⲟⲥ ⲛⲉⲙ Ⲓⲱⲁⲛⲛⲏⲥ ⲡⲉϥⲥⲟⲛ ⲉⲩϩⲓ ⲡⲓϫⲟⲓ ⲛⲉⲙ Ⲍⲉⲃⲉⲇⲉⲟⲥ ⲡⲟⲩⲓⲱⲧ ⲉⲩⲥⲟⲃϯ ⳿ⲛⲛⲟⲩ⳿ϣⲛⲏⲟⲩ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲁϥⲙⲟⲩϯ ⳿ⲉⲣⲱⲟⲩ.
22 and they, immediately, having left the boat and their father, followed Him.
ⲕ̅ⲃ̅⳿ⲛⲑⲱⲟⲩ ⲇⲉ ⲥⲁⲧⲟⲧⲟⲩ ⲁⲩⲭⲱ ⳿ⲙⲡⲓϫⲟⲓ ⲛⲉⲙ Ⲍⲉⲃⲉⲇⲉⲟⲥ ⲡⲟⲩⲓⲱⲧ ⲁⲩⲙⲟϣⲓ ⳿ⲛⲥⲱϥ.
23 And Jesus was going in all of Galilee teaching in their synagogues, and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every sickness among the people,
ⲕ̅ⲅ̅ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲛⲁϥⲕⲱϯ ⲡⲉ ⳿ⲛϫⲉ Ⲓⲏ̅ⲥ̅ ϧⲉⲛ ϯⲄⲁⲗⲓⲗⲉ⳿ⲁ ⲧⲏⲣⲥ ⲉϥϯ⳿ⲥⲃⲱ ϧⲉⲛ ⲛⲟⲩⲥⲩⲛⲁⲅⲱⲅⲏ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲉϥϩⲓⲱⲓϣ ⳿ⲙⲡⲓⲉⲩⲁⲅⲅⲉⲗⲓⲟⲛ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ϯⲙⲉⲧⲟⲩⲣⲟ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲉϥⲉⲣⲫⲁϧⲣⲓ ⳿ⲉϣⲱⲛⲓ ⲛⲓⲃⲉⲛ ⲛⲉⲙ ⲓⲁⲃⲓ ⲛⲓⲃⲉⲛ ⲉⲧϧⲉⲛ ⲡⲓⲗⲁⲟⲥ.
24 and His fame went forth to all Syria, and they brought to Him all the ill having manifold oppressing diseases and torments—and demoniacs, and lunatics, and paralytics—and He healed them.
ⲕ̅ⲇ̅ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⳿ⲁ ⲧⲉϥ⳿ⲥⲙⲏ ⳿ⲓ ⳿ⲉⲃⲟⲗϧⲉⲛ ϯⲤⲩⲣⲓ⳿ⲁ ⲧⲏⲣⲥ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲁⲩ⳿ⲓⲛⲓ ⲛⲁϥ ⳿ⲛⲟⲩⲟⲛ ⲛⲓⲃⲉⲛ ⲉⲧϩⲉⲙⲕⲏⲟⲩⲧ ϧⲉⲛ ⲛⲟⲩϣⲱⲛⲓ ⲛⲉⲙ ⲟⲩ⳿ⲙⲕⲁⲩϩ ⳿ⲛⲟⲩⲙⲏϣ ⳿ⲛⲣⲏϯ ⲛⲏ⳿ⲉⲧⲉ ⲛⲓⲇⲉⲙⲱⲛ ⲛⲉⲙⲱⲟⲩ ⲛⲉⲙ ⲛⲏⲉⲧⲟⲓ ⳿ⲙⲡⲉⲣⲙⲟⲩ ⲛⲉⲙ ⲛⲏⲉⲧϣⲏⲗ ⳿ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲁϥⲉⲣⲫⲁϧⲣⲓ ⳿ⲉⲣⲱⲟⲩ.
25 And there followed Him many multitudes from Galilee, and Decapolis, and Jerusalem, and Judea, and beyond the Jordan.
