Matthew 22
1 And Jesus answering, again spoke to them in allegories, saying,
| ܘܥܢܐ ܬܘܒ ܝܫܘܥ ܒܡܬܠܐ ܘܐܡܪ |
2 “The kingdom of the heavens was likened to a man, a king, who made wedding feasts for his son,
| ܐܬܕܡܝܬ ܡܠܟܘܬܐ ܕܫܡܝܐ ܠܓܒܪܐ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܥܒܕ ܡܫܬܘܬܐ ܠܒܪܗ |
3 and he sent forth his servants to call those having been called to the wedding feasts, and they were not willing to come.
| ܘܫܕܪ ܠܥܒܕܘܗܝ ܕܢܩܪܘܢ ܠܡܙܡܢܐ ܠܡܫܬܘܬܐ ܘܠܐ ܨܒܘ ܠܡܐܬܐ |
4 Again he sent forth other servants, saying, Say to those who have been called: Behold, I prepared my early meal, my oxen and the fatlings have been killed, and all things [are] ready, come to the wedding feasts;
| ܬܘܒ ܫܕܪ ܥܒܕܐ ܐܚܪܢܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܐܡܪܘ ܠܡܙܡܢܐ ܕܗܐ ܫܪܘܬܝ ܡܛܝܒܐ ܘܬܘܪܝ ܘܡܦܛܡܝ ܩܛܝܠܝܢ ܘܟܠ ܡܕܡ ܡܛܝܒ ܬܘ ܠܡܫܬܘܬܐ |
5 and they, having disregarded [it], went away, one to his own field, and the other to his merchandise;
| ܗܢܘܢ ܕܝܢ ܒܤܘ ܘܐܙܠܘ ܐܝܬ ܕܠܩܪܝܬܗ ܘܐܝܬ ܕܠܬܐܓܘܪܬܗ |
6 and the rest, having laid hold on his servants, mistreated and slew [them].
| ܫܪܟܐ ܕܝܢ ܐܚܕܘ ܠܥܒܕܘܗܝ ܘܨܥܪܘ ܘܩܛܠܘ |
7 And the king having heard, was angry, and having sent forth his soldiers, he destroyed those murderers, and their city he set on fire;
| ܟܕ ܫܡܥ ܕܝܢ ܡܠܟܐ ܪܓܙ ܘܫܕܪ ܚܝܠܘܬܗ ܐܘܒܕ ܠܩܛܘܠܐ ܗܢܘܢ ܘܠܡܕܝܢܬܗܘܢ ܐܘܩܕ |
8 then he says to his servants, The wedding feast indeed is ready, and those called were not worthy,
| ܗܝܕܝܢ ܐܡܪ ܠܥܒܕܘܗܝ ܡܫܬܘܬܐ ܡܛܝܒܐ ܘܗܢܘܢ ܕܡܙܡܢܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܠܐ ܫܘܝܢ ܗܘܘ |
9 be going, then, on to the cross-ways, and as many as you may find, call to the wedding feasts.
| ܙܠܘ ܗܟܝܠ ܠܡܦܩܢܐ ܕܐܘܪܚܬܐ ܘܟܠ ܡܢ ܕܡܫܟܚܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܩܪܘ ܠܡܫܬܘܬܐ |
10 And those servants, having gone forth to the ways, gathered all, as many as they found, both bad and good, and the wedding was filled with those reclining.
| ܘܢܦܩܘ ܥܒܕܐ ܗܢܘܢ ܠܐܘܪܚܬܐ ܘܟܢܫܘ ܟܠ ܕܐܫܟܚܘ ܒܝܫܐ ܘܛܒܐ ܘܐܬܡܠܝ ܒܝܬ ܡܫܬܘܬܐ ܤܡܝܟܐ |
11 And the king having come in to view those reclining, saw there a man not clothed with wedding clothes,
| ܘܥܠ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܢܚܙܐ ܤܡܝܟܐ ܘܚܙܐ ܬܡܢ ܓܒܪܐ ܕܠܐ ܠܒܝܫ ܠܒܘܫܐ ܕܡܫܬܘܬܐ |
12 and he says to him, Friend, how did you come in here, not having wedding clothes? And he was speechless.
| ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܚܒܪܝ ܐܝܟܢܐ ܥܠܬ ܠܟܐ ܟܕ ܢܚܬܐ ܕܡܫܬܘܬܐ ܠܝܬ ܠܟ ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܐܫܬܬܩ |
13 Then the king said to the servants, Having bound his feet and hands, take him up and cast forth into the outer darkness, there will be the weeping and the gnashing of the teeth;
| ܗܝܕܝܢ ܐܡܪ ܡܠܟܐ ܠܡܫܡܫܢܐ ܐܤܘܪܘ ܐܝܕܘܗܝ ܘܪܓܠܘܗܝ ܘܐܦܩܘܗܝ ܠܚܫܘܟܐ ܒܪܝܐ ܬܡܢ ܢܗܘܐ ܒܟܝܐ ܘܚܘܪܩ ܫܢܐ |
14 for many are called, and few chosen.”
| ܤܓܝܐܝܢ ܐܢܘܢ ܓܝܪ ܩܪܝܐ ܘܙܥܘܪܝܢ ܓܒܝܐ |
15 Then the Pharisees having gone, took counsel how they might ensnare Him in words,
| ܗܝܕܝܢ ܐܙܠܘ ܦܪܝܫܐ ܢܤܒܘ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܐܝܟܢܐ ܢܨܘܕܘܢܝܗܝ ܒܡܠܬܐ |
16 and they send to Him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we have known that You are true, and the way of God in truth You teach, and You are not caring for anyone, for You do not look to the face of men;
| ܘܫܕܪܘ ܠܘܬܗ ܬܠܡܝܕܝܗܘܢ ܥܡ ܕܒܝܬ ܗܪܘܕܤ ܘܐܡܪܝܢ ܠܗ ܡܠܦܢܐ ܝܕܥܝܢܢ ܕܫܪܝܪ ܐܢܬ ܘܐܘܪܚܐ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܒܩܘܫܬܐ ܡܠܦ ܐܢܬ ܘܠܐ ܫܩܝܠ ܐܢܬ ܨܦܬܐ ܕܐܢܫ ܠܐ ܓܝܪ ܢܤܒ ܐܢܬ ܒܐܦܐ ܕܐܢܫܐ |
17 tell us, therefore, what do You think? Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar or not?”
| ܐܡܪ ܠܢ ܗܟܝܠ ܐܝܟܢܐ ܡܬܚܙܐ ܠܟ ܫܠܝܛ ܠܡܬܠ ܟܤܦ ܪܫܐ ܠܩܤܪ ܐܘ ܠܐ |
18 And Jesus having known their wickedness, said, “Why do you tempt Me, hypocrites?
| ܝܫܘܥ ܕܝܢ ܝܕܥ ܒܝܫܘܬܗܘܢ ܘܐܡܪ ܡܢܐ ܡܢܤܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܠܝ ܢܤܒܝ ܒܐܦܐ |
19 Show Me the tribute-coin.” And they brought to Him a denarius;
| ܚܘܐܘܢܝ ܕܝܢܪܐ ܕܟܤܦ ܪܫܐ ܗܢܘܢ ܕܝܢ ܩܪܒܘ ܠܗ ܕܝܢܪܐ |
20 and He says to them, “Whose [is] this image and the inscription?”
| ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܝܫܘܥ ܕܡܢܘ ܨܠܡܐ ܗܢܐ ܘܟܬܒܐ |
21 They say to Him, “Caesar’s”; then He says to them, “Render therefore the things of Caesar to Caesar, and the things of God to God”;
| ܐܡܪܝܢ ܕܩܤܪ ܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܗܒܘ ܗܟܝܠ ܕܩܤܪ ܠܩܤܪ ܘܕܐܠܗܐ ܠܐܠܗܐ |
22 and having heard they wondered, and having left Him they went away.
| ܘܟܕ ܫܡܥܘ ܐܬܕܡܪܘ ܘܫܒܩܘܗܝ ܘܐܙܠܘ |
23 In that day there came near to Him Sadducees who are saying there is not a resurrection, and they questioned Him, saying,
| ܒܗܘ ܝܘܡܐ ܩܪܒܘ ܙܕܘܩܝܐ ܘܐܡܪܝܢ ܠܗ ܠܝܬ ܚܝܬ ܡܝܬܐ ܘܫܐܠܘܗܝ |
24 “Teacher, Moses said if anyone may die having no children, his brother will marry his wife, and will raise up seed to his brother.
| ܘܐܡܪܝܢ ܠܗ ܡܠܦܢܐ ܡܘܫܐ ܐܡܪ ܠܢ ܕܐܢ ܐܢܫ ܢܡܘܬ ܟܕ ܠܝܬ ܠܗ ܒܢܝܐ ܢܤܒ ܐܚܘܗܝ ܐܢܬܬܗ ܘܢܩܝܡ ܙܪܥܐ ܠܐܚܘܗܝ |
25 And there were with us seven brothers, and the first having married died, and having no seed, he left his wife to his brother;
| ܐܝܬ ܗܘܘ ܕܝܢ ܠܘܬܢ ܐܚܐ ܫܒܥܐ ܩܕܡܝܐ ܫܩܠ ܐܢܬܬܐ ܘܡܝܬ ܘܕܠܝܬ ܗܘܐ ܠܗ ܒܢܝܐ ܫܒܩܗ ܐܢܬܬܗ ܠܐܚܘܗܝ |
26 in like manner also the second, and the third, to the seventh,
| ܗܟܘܬ ܐܦ ܗܘ ܕܬܪܝܢ ܘܐܦ ܗܘ ܕܬܠܬܐ ܘܥܕܡܐ ܠܫܒܥܬܝܗܘܢ |
27 and last of all the woman also died;
| ܒܚܪܬܐ ܕܝܢ ܕܟܠܗܘܢ ܡܝܬܬ ܐܦ ܐܢܬܬܐ |
28 therefore in the resurrection, of which of the seven will she be wife—for all had her?”
| ܒܩܝܡܬܐ ܗܟܝܠ ܠܐܝܢܐ ܡܢ ܗܠܝܢ ܫܒܥܐ ܬܗܘܐ ܐܢܬܬܐ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܓܝܪ ܢܤܒܘܗ |
29 And Jesus answering said to them, “You go astray, not knowing the Writings, nor the power of God;
| ܥܢܐ ܝܫܘܥ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܛܥܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܕܠܐ ܝܕܥܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܟܬܒܐ ܘܠܐ ܚܝܠܗ ܕܐܠܗܐ |
30 for in the resurrection they do not marry, nor are they given in marriage, but are as messengers of God in Heaven.
| ܒܩܝܡܬܐ ܓܝܪ ܕܡܝܬܐ ܠܐ ܢܤܒܝܢ ܢܫܐ ܐܦܠܐ ܢܫܐ ܗܘܝܢ ܠܓܒܪܐ ܐܠܐ ܐܝܟ ܡܠܐܟܐ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܒܫܡܝܐ ܐܝܬܝܗܘܢ |
31 And concerning the resurrection of the dead, did you not read that which was spoken to you by God, saying,
| ܥܠ ܩܝܡܬܐ ܕܝܢ ܕܡܝܬܐ ܠܐ ܩܪܝܬܘܢ ܡܕܡ ܕܐܬܐܡܪ ܠܟܘܢ ܡܢ ܐܠܗܐ ܕܐܡܪ |
32 I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not a God of dead men, but of living.”
| ܕܐܢܐ ܐܢܐ ܐܠܗܗ ܕܐܒܪܗܡ ܐܠܗܗ ܕܐܝܤܚܩ ܐܠܗܗ ܕܝܥܩܘܒ ܘܐܠܗܐ ܠܐ ܗܘܐ ܕܡܝܬܐ ܐܠܐ ܕܚܝܐ |
33 And having heard, the multitudes were astonished at His teaching;
| ܘܟܕ ܫܡܥܘ ܟܢܫܐ ܡܬܬܡܗܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܒܝܘܠܦܢܗ |
34 and the Pharisees, having heard that He silenced the Sadducees, were gathered together to Him;
| ܦܪܝܫܐ ܕܝܢ ܟܕ ܫܡܥܘ ܕܫܬܩ ܠܙܕܘܩܝܐ ܐܬܟܢܫܘ ܐܟܚܕܐ |
35 and one of them, a lawyer, questioned, tempting Him, and saying,
| ܘܫܐܠܗ ܚܕ ܡܢܗܘܢ ܕܝܕܥ ܢܡܘܤܐ ܟܕ ܡܢܤܐ ܠܗ |
36 “Teacher, which [is] the great command in the Law?”
| ܡܠܦܢܐ ܐܝܢܐ ܦܘܩܕܢܐ ܪܒ ܒܢܡܘܤܐ |
37 And Jesus said to him, “You will love the LORD your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your understanding—
| ܝܫܘܥ ܕܝܢ ܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܕܬܪܚܡ ܠܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܟ ܡܢ ܟܠܗ ܠܒܟ ܘܡܢ ܟܠܗ ܢܦܫܟ ܘܡܢ ܟܠܗ ܚܝܠܟ ܘܡܢ ܟܠܗ ܪܥܝܢܟ |
38 this is a first and great command;
| ܗܢܘ ܦܘܩܕܢܐ ܪܒܐ ܘܩܕܡܝܐ |
39 and the second [is] like to it: You will love your neighbor as yourself;
| ܘܕܬܪܝܢ ܕܕܡܐ ܠܗ ܕܬܪܚܡ ܠܩܪܝܒܟ ܐܝܟ ܢܦܫܟ |
40 on these—the two commands—all the Law and the Prophets hang.”
| ܒܗܠܝܢ ܬܪܝܢ ܦܘܩܕܢܝܢ ܬܠܝܐ ܐܘܪܝܬܐ ܘܢܒܝܐ |
41 And the Pharisees having been gathered together, Jesus questioned them,
| ܟܕ ܟܢܝܫܝܢ ܕܝܢ ܦܪܝܫܐ ܫܐܠ ܐܢܘܢ ܝܫܘܥ |
42 saying, “What do you think concerning the Christ? Of whom is He Son?” They say to Him, “Of David.”
| ܘܐܡܪ ܡܢܐ ܐܡܪܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܥܠ ܡܫܝܚܐ ܒܪ ܡܢܘ ܐܡܪܝܢ ܠܗ ܒܪ ܕܘܝܕ |
43 He says to them, “How then does David in the Spirit call Him Lord, saying,
| ܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܘܐܝܟܢܐ ܕܘܝܕ ܒܪܘܚ ܩܪܐ ܠܗ ܡܪܝܐ ܐܡܪ ܓܝܪ |
44 The LORD said to my Lord, Sit at My right hand, Until I may make Your enemies Your footstool?
| ܕܐܡܪ ܡܪܝܐ ܠܡܪܝ ܬܒ ܠܟ ܡܢ ܝܡܝܢܝ ܥܕܡܐ ܕܐܤܝܡ ܒܥܠܕܒܒܝܟ ܬܚܝܬ ܪܓܠܝܟ |
45 If then David calls Him Lord, how is He his son?”
| ܐܢ ܗܟܝܠ ܕܘܝܕ ܩܪܐ ܠܗ ܡܪܝܐ ܐܝܟܢܐ ܒܪܗ ܗܘ |
46 And no one was able to answer Him a word, nor did any dare question Him from that day [on].
| ܘܠܐ ܐܢܫ ܐܫܟܚ ܕܢܬܠ ܠܗ ܦܬܓܡܐ ܘܠܐ ܐܢܫ ܐܡܪܚ ܬܘܒ ܡܢ ܗܘ ܝܘܡܐ ܠܡܫܐܠܘܬܗ |
