Matthew 17
1 And after six days Jesus takes Peter, and James, and his brother John, and brings them up to a high mountain by themselves,
Six jours après, emmenant avec lui Pierre, Jacques et Jean, son, frère, Jésus les conduisit sur une haute montagne, à l'écart.
2 and He was transfigured before them, and His face shone as the sun, and His garments became white as the light,
Et alors, devant eux, il fut transfiguré: sa face resplendit comme le soleil; ses vêtements devinrent blancs comme la lumière.
3 and behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking together with Him.
Et voilà que leur apparurent Moïse et Élie, s'entretenant avec lui.
4 And Peter answering said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good to us to be here; if You will, we may make three shelters here: one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
Pierre alors, s'adressant à Jésus, lui dit: «Seigneur, qu'il nous est bon d'être ici! si tu veux, je dresserait trois tentes, une pour toi, une pour Moïse, une pour Élie... »
5 While he is yet speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold, a voice out of the cloud, saying, “This is My Son, the Beloved, in whom I delighted; hear Him.”
Il parlait encore, lorsqu'une nuée lumineuse les enveloppa, et que de cette nuée sortit une voix disant: «Celui-ci est mon Fils, le bien-aimé en qui je me complais. Écoutez-le.»
6 And the disciples having heard, fell on their face, and were exceedingly afraid,
Quand les disciples entendirent cette voix, ils tombèrent sur leur face, frappés de terreur.
7 and Jesus having come near, touched them, and said, “Rise, do not be afraid,”
Mais Jésus s'approcha et, les touchant, leur dit:
8 and having lifted up their eyes, they saw no one, except Jesus only.
«Levez-vous et soyez sans crainte.» Levant alors les yeux, ils ne virent plus personne que lui, Jésus, seul.
9 And as they are coming down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, “Say to no one the vision, until the Son of Man may rise out of the dead.”
Comme ils descendaient de la montagne, Jésus leur fit cette recommandation: «Ne parlez à personne de cette vision jusqu'à ce que le Fils de l'homme soit ressuscité d'entre les morts.»
10 And His disciples questioned Him, saying, “Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”
Les disciples lui demandèrent: «Pourquoi les Scribes disent-ils: Il faut, avant tout, qu'Élie vienne?»
11 And Jesus answering said to them, “Elijah does indeed come first, and will restore all things,
Il leur répondit: «Oui, Élie doit venir et rétablir toutes choses.
12 and I say to you, Elijah already came, and they did not know him, but did with him whatever they would, so also the Son of Man is about to suffer by them.”
Eh bien, je vous le déclare, Élie est déjà venu; et ils ne l'ont pas reconnu; ils ont, au contraire, fait de lui tout ce qu'ils ont voulu. De même le Fils de l'homme doit souffrir par leurs mains.»
13 Then the disciples understood that He spoke to them concerning John the Immerser.
Les disciples comprirent alors que c'était de Jean-Baptiste qu'il leur parlait.
14 And when they came to the multitude, there came to Him a man, kneeling down to Him,
Lorsqu'ils eurent rejoint la multitude, un homme s'avança vers lui et, se jetant à genoux, lui dit:
15 and saying, “Lord, deal kindly with my son, for he is [a] lunatic, and suffers miserably, for he often falls into the fire, and often into the water,
«Seigneur, aie pitié de mon fils; il est lunatique, et ses souffrances sont grandes, car il lui arrive souvent de tomber dans le feu, souvent aussi dans l'eau.
16 and I brought him near to Your disciples, and they were not able to heal him.”
Je l'ai apporté à tes disciples et ils ont été impuissants à le guérir.
17 And Jesus answering said, “O generation, unsteadfast and perverse, until when will I be with you? Until when will I bear you? Bring him to Me here”;
Jésus alors prononça ces paroles: «génération incrédule et perverse, jusqu'à quand serai-je avec vous? jusqu'à quand vous supporterai-je? Apportez-moi l'enfant ici.»
18 and Jesus rebuked him, and the demon went out of him, and the boy was healed from that hour.
Il lui fit des menaces; et le démon sortit de lui. Cet enfant, dès ce moment, fut guéri.
19 Then the disciples having come to Jesus by Himself, said, “Why were we not able to cast him out?”
Les disciples, s'approchant alors de Jésus, lui dirent en particulier: «Pourquoi, nous, avons-nous été impuissants à chasser ce démon?»
20 And Jesus said to them, “Through your want of faith; for truly I say to you, if you may have faith as a grain of mustard, you will say to this mountain, Move from here to there, and it will move, and nothing will be impossible to you,
Il répondit: «A cause de votre peu de foi, car je vous le dis en vérité, si vous aviez de la foi gros comme un grain de sénevé, vous diriez à cette montagne: «Transporte-toi d'ici là» et elle s'y transporterait; rien ne vous serait impossible.
21 [[and this kind does not go forth except in prayer and fasting.”]]
(Mais ce genre de démon ne s'expulse que par la prière et le jeûne).
22 And while they are living in Galilee, Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man is about to be delivered up into the hands of men,
Pendant qu'ils séjournaient en Galilée, Jésus leur dit: «Le Fils de l'homme va être livré entre les mains des hommes,
23 and they will kill Him, and the third day He will rise,” and they were exceedingly sorry.
ils le tueront; le troisième jour il ressuscitera.) Ces paroles les affligèrent extrêmement.
24 And they having come to Capernaum, those receiving the didrachmas came near to Peter and said, “Your teacher—does He not pay the didrachmas?” He says, “Yes.”
Quand ils arrivèrent à Capharnaüm, ceux qui recevaient les didrachmes s'adressèrent à Pierre et lui dirent: «Est-ce que votre maître ne paye pas les didrachmes?
25 And when he came into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, “What do you think, Simon? The kings of the earth—from whom do they receive custom or poll-tax? From their sons or from the strangers?”
«Il les paye, répondit-il. Et quand il entra dans la maison, Jésus le prévint en lui disant: «Quel est ton avis, Simon? de qui les rois de la terre perçoivent-ils l’impôt ou le cens? de leurs fils ou des étrangers.»
26 Peter says to Him, “From the strangers.” Jesus said to him, “Then the sons are free;
Pierre répondit: «des étrangers». «Donc, reprit Jésus, les Fils, sont libres;
27 but that we may not cause them to stumble, having gone to the sea, cast a hook, and the fish that has come up first take up, and having opened its mouth, you will find a stater, that having taken, give to them for Me and you.”
cependant pour ne pas les scandaliser, va à la mer et jette l'hameçon. Le premier poisson qui se prendra, tire-le de l'eau, ouvre-lui la bouche, tu y trouveras un statère; prends-le et donne-le-leur pour moi et pour toi.»
