< Matthew 14 >
1 At that time Herod the tetrarch heard the fame of Jesus,
tadaanii. m raajaa herod yii"so rya"sa. h "srutvaa nijadaaseyaan jagaad,
2 and said to his servants, “This is John the Immerser, he rose from the dead, and because of this the mighty energies are working in him.”
e. sa majjayitaa yohan, pramitebhayastasyotthaanaat tenetthamadbhuta. m karmma prakaa"syate|
3 For Herod having laid hold on John, bound him, and put him in prison, because of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife,
puraa herod nijabhraatu: philipo jaayaayaa herodiiyaayaa anurodhaad yohana. m dhaarayitvaa baddhaa kaaraayaa. m sthaapitavaan|
4 for John was saying to him, “It is not lawful to you to have her,”
yato yohan uktavaan, etsayaa. h sa. mgraho bhavato nocita. h|
5 and willing to kill him, he feared the multitude, because as a prophet they were holding him.
tasmaat n. rpatista. m hantumicchannapi lokebhyo vibhayaa ncakaara; yata. h sarvve yohana. m bhavi. syadvaadina. m menire|
6 But the birthday of Herod being kept, the daughter of Herodias danced in the midst, and pleased Herod,
kintu herodo janmaahiiyamaha upasthite herodiiyaayaa duhitaa te. saa. m samak. sa. m n. rtitvaa herodamaprii. nyat|
7 after which with an oath he professed to give her whatever she might ask.
tasmaat bhuupati. h "sapatha. m kurvvan iti pratyaj naasiit, tvayaa yad yaacyate, tadevaaha. m daasyaami|
8 And she, having been instigated by her mother, says, “Give me here on a plate the head of John the Immerser”;
saa kumaarii sviiyamaatu. h "sik. saa. m labdhaa babhaa. se, majjayituryohana uttamaa"nga. m bhaajane samaaniiya mahya. m vi"sraa. naya|
9 and the king was grieved, but because of the oaths and of those dining with him, he commanded [it] to be given;
tato raajaa "su"soca, kintu bhojanaayopavi"sataa. m sa"nginaa. m svak. rta"sapathasya caanurodhaat tat pradaatuma aadide"sa|
10 and having sent, he beheaded John in the prison,
pa"scaat kaaraa. m prati nara. m prahitya yohana uttamaa"nga. m chittvaa
11 and his head was brought on a plate, and was given to the girl, and she brought [it] near to her mother.
tat bhaajana aanaayya tasyai kumaaryyai vya"sraa. nayat, tata. h saa svajananyaa. h samiipa. m tanninaaya|
12 And his disciples having come, took up the body, and buried it, and having come, they told Jesus,
pa"scaat yohana. h "si. syaa aagatya kaaya. m niitvaa "sma"saane sthaapayaamaasustato yii"so. h sannidhi. m vrajitvaa tadvaarttaa. m babhaa. sire|
13 and Jesus having heard, withdrew from there in a boat to a desolate place by Himself, and the multitudes having heard followed Him on land from the cities.
anantara. m yii"suriti ni"sabhya naavaa nirjanasthaanam ekaakii gatavaan, pa"scaat maanavaastat "srutvaa naanaanagarebhya aagatya padaistatpa"scaad iiyu. h|
14 And Jesus having come forth, saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion on them, and healed their sick;
tadaanii. m yii"su rbahiraagatya mahaanta. m jananivaha. m niriik. sya te. su kaaru. nika. h man te. saa. m pii. ditajanaan niraamayaan cakaara|
15 and evening having come, His disciples came to Him, saying, “The place is desolate, and the hour has now past, let away the multitudes that, having gone into the villages, they may buy food for themselves.”
tata. h para. m sandhyaayaa. m "si. syaastadantikamaagatya kathayaa ncakru. h, ida. m nirjanasthaana. m velaapyavasannaa; tasmaat manujaan svasvagraama. m gantu. m svaartha. m bhak. syaa. ni kretu nca bhavaan taan vis. rjatu|
16 And Jesus said to them, “They have no need to go away—you give them to eat.”
kintu yii"sustaanavaadiit, te. saa. m gamane prayojana. m naasti, yuuyameva taan bhojayata|
17 And they say to Him, “We have nothing here except five loaves and two fishes.”
tadaa te pratyavadan, asmaakamatra puupapa ncaka. m miinadvaya ncaaste|
18 And He said, “Bring them to Me here.”
tadaanii. m tenokta. m taani madantikamaanayata|
19 And having commanded the multitudes to recline on the grass, and having taken the five loaves and the two fishes, having looked up to the sky, He blessed, and having broken, He gave the loaves to the disciples, and the disciples [gave] to the multitudes,
anantara. m sa manujaan yavasoparyyupave. s.tum aaj naapayaamaasa; apara tat puupapa ncaka. m miinadvaya nca g. rhlan svarga. m prati niriik. sye"svariiyagu. naan anuudya bha. mktvaa "si. syebhyo dattavaan, "si. syaa"sca lokebhyo dadu. h|
20 and they all ate, and were filled, and they took up what was over of the broken pieces twelve hand-baskets full;
tata. h sarvve bhuktvaa parit. rptavanta. h, tatastadava"si. s.tabhak. syai. h puur. naan dvaada"sa. dalakaan g. rhiitavanta. h|
21 and those eating were about five thousand men, apart from women and children.
te bhoktaara. h striirbaalakaa. m"sca vihaaya praaye. na pa nca sahasraa. ni pumaa. msa aasan|
22 And immediately Jesus constrained His disciples to go into the boat, and to go before Him to the other side, until He might let away the multitudes;
tadanantara. m yii"su rlokaanaa. m visarjanakaale "si. syaan tara. nimaaro. dhu. m svaagre paara. m yaatu nca gaa. dhamaadi. s.tavaan|
23 and having let away the multitudes, He went up to the mountain by Himself to pray, and evening having come, He was there alone,
tato loke. su vis. r.s. te. su sa vivikte praarthayitu. m girimeka. m gatvaa sandhyaa. m yaavat tatraikaakii sthitavaan|
24 and the boat was now in the midst of the sea, distressed by the waves, for the wind was contrary.
kintu tadaanii. m sammukhavaatatvaat saritpate rmadhye tara"ngaistara. nirdolaayamaanaabhavat|
25 And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went away to them, walking on the sea,
tadaa sa yaaminyaa"scaturthaprahare padbhyaa. m vrajan te. saamantika. m gatavaan|
26 and the disciples having seen Him walking on the sea, were troubled, saying, “It is an apparition,” and from the fear they cried out;
kintu "si. syaasta. m saagaropari vrajanta. m vilokya samudvignaa jagadu. h, e. sa bhuuta iti "sa"nkamaanaa uccai. h "sabdaayaa ncakrire ca|
27 and immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take courage! I AM; do not be afraid.”
tadaiva yii"sustaanavadat, susthiraa bhavata, maa bhai. s.ta, e. so. aham|
28 And Peter answering Him said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the waters”;
tata. h pitara ityuktavaan, he prabho, yadi bhavaaneva, tarhi maa. m bhavatsamiipa. m yaatumaaj naapayatu|
29 and He said, “Come”; and having gone down from the boat, Peter walked on the waters to come to Jesus,
tata. h tenaadi. s.ta. h pitarastara. nito. avaruhya yii"serantika. m praaptu. m toyopari vavraaja|
30 but seeing the vehement wind, he was afraid, and having begun to sink, he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”
kintu praca. n.da. m pavana. m vilokya bhayaat toye ma. mktum aarebhe, tasmaad uccai. h "sabdaayamaana. h kathitavaan, he prabho, maamavatu|
31 And immediately Jesus, having stretched forth the hand, laid hold of him and says to him, “Little faith! For why did you waver?”
yii"sustatk. sa. naat kara. m prasaaryya ta. m dharan uktavaan, ha stokapratyayin tva. m kuta. h sama"sethaa. h?
32 And they having gone into the boat, the wind stilled,
anantara. m tayostara. nimaaruu. dhayo. h pavano nivav. rte|
33 and those in the boat having come, worshiped Him, saying, “You are truly God’s Son.”
tadaanii. m ye tara. nyaamaasan, ta aagatya ta. m pra. nabhya kathitavanta. h, yathaarthastvameve"svarasuta. h|
34 And having passed over, they came into the land of Gennesaret,
anantara. m paara. m praapya te gine. sarannaamaka. m nagaramupatasthu. h,
35 and having recognized Him, the men of that place sent forth to all that surrounding region, and they brought to Him all who were ill,
tadaa tatratyaa janaa yii"su. m pariciiya tadde"ssya caturdi"so vaarttaa. m prahitya yatra yaavanta. h pii. ditaa aasan, taavataeva tadantikamaanayaamaasu. h|
36 and were calling on Him that they might only touch the fringe of His garment, and as many as touched were saved.
apara. m tadiiyavasanasya granthimaatra. m spra. s.tu. m viniiya yaavanto janaastat spar"sa. m cakrire, te sarvvaeva niraamayaa babhuuvu. h|
