< Matthew 14 >

1 At that time Herod the tetrarch heard the fame of Jesus,
ⲁ̅ⲚϨⲢⲎⲒ ⲆⲈ ϦⲈⲚⲠⲒⲤⲎⲞⲨ ⲈⲦⲈⲘⲘⲀⲨ ⲀϤⲤⲰⲦⲈⲘ ⲚϪⲈⲎⲢⲰⲆⲎⲤ ⲠⲒⲦⲈⲦⲢⲀⲀⲢⲬⲎⲤ ⲈⲦⲤⲘⲎ ⲚⲒⲎⲤⲞⲨⲤ.
2 and said to his servants, “This is John the Immerser, he rose from the dead, and because of this the mighty energies are working in him.”
ⲃ̅ⲞⲨⲞϨ ⲠⲈϪⲀϤ ⲚⲚⲈϤⲀⲖⲰⲞⲨⲒ ϪⲈ ⲪⲀⲒ ⲠⲈ ⲒⲰⲀⲚⲚⲎⲤ ⲠⲒⲢⲈϤϮⲰⲘⲤ ⲚⲐⲞϤ ⲄⲀⲢ ⲀϤⲦⲰⲚϤ ⲈⲂⲞⲖ ϦⲈⲚⲚⲎ ⲈⲐⲘⲰⲞⲨⲦ ⲞⲨⲞϨ ⲈⲐⲂⲈⲪⲀⲒ ⲚⲒϪⲞⲘ ⲤⲈⲈⲢϨⲰⲂ ⲚϦⲎⲦϤ.
3 For Herod having laid hold on John, bound him, and put him in prison, because of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife,
ⲅ̅ⲎⲢⲰⲆⲎⲤ ⲄⲀⲢ ⲚⲈⲀϤⲀⲘⲞⲚⲒ ⲚⲒⲰⲀⲚⲚⲎⲤ ⲞⲨⲞϨ ⲀϤⲤⲞⲚϨϤ ⲀϤⲬⲀϤ ϦⲈⲚⲠⲒϢⲦⲈⲔⲞ ⲈⲐⲂⲈ ⲎⲢⲰⲆⲒⲀⲤ ⲦⲤϨⲒⲘⲒ ⲘⲪⲒⲖⲒⲠⲠⲞⲤ ⲠⲈϤⲤⲞⲚ.
4 for John was saying to him, “It is not lawful to you to have her,”
ⲇ̅ⲚⲀϤϪⲰ ⲘⲘⲞⲤ ⲚⲀϤ ⲠⲈ ⲚϪⲈⲒⲰⲀⲚⲚⲎⲤ ϪⲈ ⲤϢⲈ ⲚⲀⲔ ⲀⲚ ⲈϬⲒⲦⲤ.
5 and willing to kill him, he feared the multitude, because as a prophet they were holding him.
ⲉ̅ⲞⲨⲞϨ ⲈϤⲞⲨⲰϢ ⲈϦⲞⲐⲂⲈϤ ⲀϤⲈⲢϨⲞϮ ϦⲀⲦϨⲎ ⲘⲠⲒⲘⲎϢ ϪⲈ ⲚⲀϤⲬⲎ ⲚⲦⲞⲦⲞⲨ ϨⲰⲤ ⲞⲨⲠⲢⲞⲪⲎⲦⲎⲤ.
6 But the birthday of Herod being kept, the daughter of Herodias danced in the midst, and pleased Herod,
ⲋ̅ⲈⲦⲀ ⲞⲨⲈϨⲞⲞⲨ ⲘⲘⲒⲤⲒ ⲆⲈ ϢⲰⲠⲒ ⲚⲦⲈⲎⲢⲰⲆⲎⲤ ⲀⲤϬⲞⲤϪⲈⲤ ⲚϪⲈⲦϢⲈⲢⲒ ⲚⲎⲢⲰⲆⲒⲀⲤ ϦⲈⲚⲐⲘⲎϮ ⲞⲨⲞϨ ⲀⲤⲢⲀⲚⲀϤ ⲚⲎⲢⲰⲆⲎⲤ.
7 after which with an oath he professed to give her whatever she might ask.
ⲍ̅ϦⲈⲚ ⲪⲀⲒ ⲀϤⲈⲢⲀⲚⲀϢ ⲈϤⲈⲢⲞⲘⲞⲖⲞⲄⲒⲚ ⲈϮ ⲚⲀⲤ ⲘⲪⲎ ⲈⲦⲈⲤⲚⲀⲈⲢⲈⲦⲒⲚ ⲘⲘⲞϤ.
8 And she, having been instigated by her mother, says, “Give me here on a plate the head of John the Immerser”;
ⲏ̅ⲚⲐⲞⲤ ⲆⲈ ⲀⲦⲈⲤⲘⲀⲨ ⲦⲤⲀⲂⲞⲤ ⲠⲈϪⲀⲤ ϪⲈ ⲘⲀ ⲦⲀⲪⲈ ⲚⲒⲰⲀⲚⲚⲎⲤ ⲚⲎⲒ ⲠⲒⲢⲈϤϮⲰⲘⲤ ϨⲒ ⲞⲨⲂⲒⲚⲀϪ.
9 and the king was grieved, but because of the oaths and of those dining with him, he commanded [it] to be given;
ⲑ̅ⲞⲨⲞϨ ⲀⲠϨⲎⲦ ⲘⲠⲞⲨⲢⲞ ⲘⲔⲀϨ ⲈⲐⲂⲈ ⲚⲒⲀⲚⲀⲨϢ ⲆⲈ ⲚⲈⲘ ⲚⲎ ⲈⲐⲢⲞⲦⲈⲂ ⲚⲈⲘⲀϤ ⲀϤⲞⲨⲀϨⲤⲀϨⲚⲒ ⲈⲦⲎⲒⲤ.
10 and having sent, he beheaded John in the prison,
ⲓ̅ⲞⲨⲞϨ ⲀϤⲞⲨⲰⲢⲠ ⲀϤⲰⲖⲒ ⲚⲦⲀⲪⲈ ⲚⲒⲰⲀⲚⲚⲎ ⲤϦⲈⲚ ⲠⲒϢⲦⲈⲔⲞ.
11 and his head was brought on a plate, and was given to the girl, and she brought [it] near to her mother.
ⲓ̅ⲁ̅ⲞⲨⲞϨ ⲀⲨⲈⲚⲤ ϨⲒ ⲠⲒⲂⲒⲚⲀϪ ⲀⲨⲦⲎⲒⲤ ⲚϮⲀⲖⲞⲨ ⲞⲨⲞϨ ⲀϮⲀⲖⲞⲨ ⲦⲎⲒⲤ ⲚⲦⲈⲤⲘⲀⲨ.
12 And his disciples having come, took up the body, and buried it, and having come, they told Jesus,
ⲓ̅ⲃ̅ⲞⲨⲞϨ ⲀⲨⲒ ⲚϪⲈⲚⲈϤⲘⲀⲐⲎⲦⲎⲤ ⲀⲨⲈⲖ ϮϢⲞⲖϨⲤ ⲀⲨⲐⲞⲘⲤⲤ ⲞⲨⲞϨ ⲀⲨⲒ ⲀⲨⲦⲀⲘⲈ ⲒⲎⲤⲞⲨⲤ.
13 and Jesus having heard, withdrew from there in a boat to a desolate place by Himself, and the multitudes having heard followed Him on land from the cities.
ⲓ̅ⲅ̅ⲒⲎⲤⲞⲨⲤ ⲆⲈ ⲈⲦⲀϤⲤⲰⲦⲈⲘ ⲀϤϢⲈ ⲚⲀϤ ⲈⲂⲞⲖ ⲘⲘⲀⲨ ϨⲒ ⲞⲨϪⲞⲒ ⲈⲞⲨⲘⲀⲚϢⲀϤⲈ ⲞⲨⲞϨ ⲈⲦⲀⲨⲤⲰⲦⲈⲘ ⲚϪⲈⲚⲒⲘⲎϢ ⲀⲨⲞⲨⲀϨⲞⲨ ⲚⲤⲰϤ ⲀⲨⲘⲞϢⲒ ⲚⲢⲀⲦⲞⲨ ⲈⲂⲞⲖ ϦⲈⲚⲚⲒⲂⲀⲔⲒ.
14 And Jesus having come forth, saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion on them, and healed their sick;
ⲓ̅ⲇ̅ⲞⲨⲞϨ ⲈⲦⲀϤⲒ ⲈⲂⲞⲖ ⲀϤⲚⲀⲨ ⲈⲞⲨⲚⲒϢϮ ⲘⲘⲎϢ ⲞⲨⲞϨ ⲀϤϢⲈⲚϨⲎⲦ ϦⲀⲢⲰⲞⲨ ⲞⲨⲞϨ ⲀϤⲈⲢⲪⲀϦⲢⲒ ⲚⲚⲎ ⲈⲦϢⲰⲚⲒ ⲚϦⲎⲦⲞⲨ.
15 and evening having come, His disciples came to Him, saying, “The place is desolate, and the hour has now past, let away the multitudes that, having gone into the villages, they may buy food for themselves.”
ⲓ̅ⲉ̅ⲈⲦⲀ ⲢⲞⲨϨⲒ ⲆⲈ ϢⲰⲠⲒ ⲀⲨⲒ ϨⲀⲢⲞϤ ⲚϪⲈⲚⲈϤⲘⲀⲐⲎⲦⲎⲤ ⲈⲨϪⲰ ⲘⲘⲞⲤ ϪⲈ ⲠⲒⲘⲀ ⲞⲨϢⲀϤⲈ ⲠⲈ ⲞⲨⲞϨ ⲠⲒⲚⲀⲨ ⲀϤⲤⲒⲚⲒ ⲬⲀ ⲠⲒⲘⲎ ϢⲞⲨⲚ ⲈⲂⲞⲖ ϨⲒⲚⲀ ⲚⲤⲈϢⲈ ⲚⲰⲞⲨ ⲈⲚⲒϮⲘⲒ ⲚⲤⲈϢⲰⲠ ⲚϨⲀⲚϦⲢⲎⲞⲨⲒ ⲚⲰⲞⲨ.
16 And Jesus said to them, “They have no need to go away—you give them to eat.”
ⲓ̅ⲋ̅ⲚⲐⲞϤ ⲆⲈ ⲠⲈϪⲀϤ ϪⲈ ⲤⲈⲈⲢⲬⲢⲒⲀ ⲀⲚ ⲚⲦⲞⲨϢⲈ ⲚⲰⲞⲨ ⲘⲞⲒ ⲚⲰⲞⲨ ⲚⲐⲰⲦⲈⲚ ⲘⲀⲢⲞⲨⲞⲨⲰⲘ.
17 And they say to Him, “We have nothing here except five loaves and two fishes.”
ⲓ̅ⲍ̅ⲚⲐⲰⲞⲨ ⲆⲈ ⲠⲈϪⲰⲞⲨ ⲚⲀϤ ϪⲈ ⲘⲘⲞⲚ ⲚⲦⲀⲚ ⲘⲠⲀⲒⲘⲀ ⲈⲂⲎⲖ ⲈⲈ ⲚⲰⲒⲔ ⲚⲈⲘ ⲦⲈⲂⲦ Ⲃ.
18 And He said, “Bring them to Me here.”
ⲓ̅ⲏ̅ⲚⲐⲞϤ ⲆⲈ ⲠⲈϪⲀϤ ⲚⲰⲞⲨ ϪⲈ ⲀⲚⲒⲦⲞⲨ ⲚⲎⲒ ⲘⲚⲀⲒ.
19 And having commanded the multitudes to recline on the grass, and having taken the five loaves and the two fishes, having looked up to the sky, He blessed, and having broken, He gave the loaves to the disciples, and the disciples [gave] to the multitudes,
ⲓ̅ⲑ̅ⲞⲨⲞϨ ⲀϤⲞⲨⲀϨⲤⲀϨⲚⲒ ⲈⲐⲢⲈ ⲚⲒⲘⲎϢ ⲢⲰⲦⲈⲂ ϨⲒϪⲈⲚ ⲠⲒⲤⲒⲘ ⲞⲨⲞϨ ⲈⲦⲀϤϬⲒ ⲘⲠⲒⲈ ⲚⲰⲒⲔ ⲚⲈⲘ ⲠⲒⲦⲈⲂⲦ ⲂⲀϤϪⲞⲨϢⲦ ⲈⲠϢⲰⲒ ⲈⲦⲪⲈ ⲀϤⲤⲘⲞⲨ ⲈⲢⲰⲞⲨ ⲞⲨⲞϨ ⲀϤⲪⲀϢⲞⲨ ⲞⲨⲞϨ ⲀϤϮ ⲚⲚⲒⲰⲒⲔ ⲚⲚⲒⲘⲀⲐⲎⲦⲎⲤ ⲚⲒⲘⲀⲐⲎⲦⲎⲤ ⲆⲈ ⲀⲨϮ ⲚⲚⲒⲘⲎϢ.
20 and they all ate, and were filled, and they took up what was over of the broken pieces twelve hand-baskets full;
ⲕ̅ⲞⲨⲞϨ ⲀⲨⲞⲨⲰⲘ ⲦⲎⲢⲞⲨ ⲀⲨⲤⲒ ⲞⲨⲞϨ ⲀⲨⲈⲖ ⲠϨⲞⲨⲞ ⲚⲚⲒⲖⲀⲔϨ ⲀⲨⲘⲀϨ ⲒⲂ ⲚⲔⲞⲦ ⲈⲨⲘⲈϨ.
21 and those eating were about five thousand men, apart from women and children.
ⲕ̅ⲁ̅ⲚⲎ ⲆⲈ ⲈⲦⲀⲨⲞⲨⲰⲘ ⲚⲀⲨⲈⲢ ⲈⲚϢⲞ ⲚⲢⲰⲘⲒ ⲬⲰⲢⲒⲤ ⲀⲖⲞⲨ ⲚⲈⲘ ⲤϨⲒⲘⲒ.
22 And immediately Jesus constrained His disciples to go into the boat, and to go before Him to the other side, until He might let away the multitudes;
ⲕ̅ⲃ̅ⲞⲨⲞϨ ⲤⲀⲦⲞⲦϤ ⲀϤⲈⲢⲀⲚⲀⲄⲔⲀⲌⲒⲚ ⲚⲚⲈϤⲘⲀⲐⲎⲦⲎⲤ ⲈⲀⲖⲎⲒ ⲈⲠϪⲞⲒ ⲞⲨⲞϨ ⲈⲤⲰⲔ ϦⲀϪⲰϤ ⲈⲘⲎⲢ ϢⲀⲦⲈϤⲬⲀ ⲠⲒⲘⲎϢ ⲈⲂⲞⲖ.
23 and having let away the multitudes, He went up to the mountain by Himself to pray, and evening having come, He was there alone,
ⲕ̅ⲅ̅ⲞⲨⲞϨ ⲈⲦⲀϤⲬⲀ ⲚⲒⲘⲎϢ ⲈⲂⲞⲖ ⲀϤϢⲈ ⲚⲀϤ ⲈϨⲢⲎⲒ ⲈϪⲈⲚ ⲞⲨⲦⲰⲞⲨ ⲤⲀⲠⲤⲀ ⲘⲘⲀⲨⲀⲦϤ ⲈⲈⲢⲠⲢⲞⲤⲈⲨⲬⲈⲤⲐⲈ ⲈⲦⲀ ⲢⲞⲨϨⲒ ⲆⲈ ϢⲰⲠⲒ ⲚⲐⲞϤ ⲘⲘⲀⲨⲀⲦϤ ⲈⲚⲀϤⲬⲎ ⲘⲘⲀⲨ.
24 and the boat was now in the midst of the sea, distressed by the waves, for the wind was contrary.
ⲕ̅ⲇ̅ⲠⲒϪⲞⲒ ⲆⲈ ⲀϤⲞⲨⲈⲒ ⲈⲂⲞⲖ ⲘⲠⲒⲔⲀϨⲒ ⲚⲀⲨ ⲔⲈ ⲚⲤⲦⲀⲆⲒⲞⲚ ⲈⲨϮⲞⲨⲂⲎϤ ⲚϪⲈⲚⲒϪⲞⲖ ⲚⲀⲢⲈ ⲠⲒⲐⲎⲞⲨ ⲄⲀⲢ ϮⲞⲨⲂⲎϤ ⲠⲈ.
25 And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went away to them, walking on the sea,
ⲕ̅ⲉ̅ϦⲈⲚ ϮⲘⲀϨⲆ ⲆⲈ ⲚⲞⲨⲈⲢϢⲒ ⲚⲦⲈⲠⲒⲈϪⲰⲢϨ ⲀϤⲒ ϨⲀⲢⲰⲞⲨ ⲈϤⲘⲞϢⲒ ϨⲒϪⲈⲚ ⲪⲒⲞⲘ.
26 and the disciples having seen Him walking on the sea, were troubled, saying, “It is an apparition,” and from the fear they cried out;
ⲕ̅ⲋ̅ⲞⲨⲞϨ ⲈⲦⲀⲨⲚⲀⲨ ⲈⲢⲞϤ ⲈϤⲘⲞϢⲒ ϨⲒϪⲈⲚ ⲪⲒⲞⲘ ⲀⲨϢⲐⲞⲢⲦⲈⲢ ⲈⲨϪⲰ ⲘⲘⲞⲤ ϪⲈ ⲞⲨϨⲞⲢⲦϤ ⲠⲈ ⲞⲨⲞϨ ⲈⲂⲞⲖ ϦⲈⲚϮϨⲞϮ ⲀⲨⲰϢ ⲈⲂⲞⲖ.
27 and immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take courage! I AM; do not be afraid.”
ⲕ̅ⲍ̅ⲤⲀⲦⲞⲦϤ ⲆⲈ ⲀϤⲤⲀϪⲒ ⲚⲈⲘⲰⲞⲨ ⲈϤϪⲰ ⲘⲘⲞⲤ ϪⲈ ϪⲈⲘⲚⲞⲘϮ ⲀⲚⲞⲔ ⲠⲈ ⲘⲠⲈⲢⲈⲢϨⲞϮ.
28 And Peter answering Him said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the waters”;
ⲕ̅ⲏ̅ⲀϤⲈⲢⲞⲨⲰ ⲆⲈ ⲚϪⲈⲠⲈⲦⲢⲞⲤ ⲠⲈϪⲀϤ ⲚⲀϤ ϪⲈ ⲠϬⲞⲒⲤ ⲒⲤϪⲈ ⲚⲐⲞⲔ ⲠⲈ ⲞⲨⲀϨⲤⲀϨⲚⲒ ⲚⲎⲒ ⲚⲦⲀⲒ ϨⲀⲢⲞⲔ ϨⲒϪⲈⲚ ⲚⲒⲘⲰⲞⲨ.
29 and He said, “Come”; and having gone down from the boat, Peter walked on the waters to come to Jesus,
ⲕ̅ⲑ̅ⲚⲐⲞϤ ⲆⲈ ⲠⲈϪⲀϤ ϪⲈ ⲀⲘⲞⲨ ⲞⲨⲞϨ ⲈⲦⲀϤⲒ ⲈϦⲢⲎⲒ ⲈⲂⲞⲖ ϨⲒ ⲠⲒϪⲞⲒ ⲚϪⲈⲠⲈⲦⲢⲞⲤ ⲀϤⲘⲞϢⲒ ϨⲒϪⲈⲚ ⲚⲒⲘⲰⲞⲨ ⲈⲒ ϨⲀ ⲒⲎⲤⲞⲨⲤ.
30 but seeing the vehement wind, he was afraid, and having begun to sink, he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”
ⲗ̅ⲀϤⲚⲀⲨ ⲆⲈ ⲈⲠⲒⲐⲎⲞⲨ ⲀϤⲈⲢϨⲞϮ ⲞⲨⲞϨ ⲈⲦⲀϤⲈⲢϨⲎⲦⲤ ⲚⲰⲘⲤ ⲀϤⲰϢ ⲈⲂⲞⲖ ⲈϤϪⲰ ⲘⲘⲞⲤ ϪⲈ ⲠϬⲞⲒⲤ ⲚⲀϨⲘⲈⲦ.
31 And immediately Jesus, having stretched forth the hand, laid hold of him and says to him, “Little faith! For why did you waver?”
ⲗ̅ⲁ̅ⲤⲀⲦⲞⲦϤ ⲆⲈ ⲈⲦⲀ ⲒⲎⲤⲞⲨⲤ ⲤⲞⲨⲦⲈⲚ ⲦⲈϤϪⲒϪ ⲈⲂⲞⲖ ⲀϤⲀⲘⲞⲚⲒ ⲘⲘⲞϤ ⲞⲨⲞϨ ⲠⲈϪⲀϤ ⲚⲀϤ ϪⲈ ⲪⲀ ⲠⲒⲔⲞⲨϪⲒ ⲚⲚⲀϨϮ ⲈⲐⲂⲈⲞⲨ ⲀⲔⲈⲢϨⲎ Ⲧ Ⲃ-.
32 And they having gone into the boat, the wind stilled,
ⲗ̅ⲃ̅ⲞⲨⲞϨ ⲈⲦⲀϤⲀⲖⲎⲒ ⲈⲠⲒϪⲞⲒ ⲀϤϨⲈⲢⲒ ⲚϪⲈⲠⲒⲐⲎⲞⲨ
33 and those in the boat having come, worshiped Him, saying, “You are truly God’s Son.”
ⲗ̅ⲅ̅ⲚⲎ ⲆⲈ ⲈⲚⲀⲨϨⲒ ⲠⲒϪⲞⲒ ⲀⲨⲞⲨⲰϢⲦ ⲘⲘⲞϤ ⲈⲨϪⲰ ⲘⲘⲞⲤ ϪⲈ ⲦⲀⲪⲘⲎⲒ ⲚⲐⲞⲔ ⲠϢⲎⲢⲒ ⲘⲪⲚⲞⲨϮ.
34 And having passed over, they came into the land of Gennesaret,
ⲗ̅ⲇ̅ⲞⲨⲞϨ ⲈⲦⲀⲨⲈⲢϪⲒⲚⲒⲞⲢ ⲈⲘⲎⲢ ⲀⲨⲒ ⲈϦⲞⲨⲚ ⲈⲠⲔⲀϨⲒ ⲚⲄⲈⲚⲚⲎⲤⲀⲢⲈⲐ.
35 and having recognized Him, the men of that place sent forth to all that surrounding region, and they brought to Him all who were ill,
ⲗ̅ⲉ̅ⲞⲨⲞϨ ⲈⲦⲀⲨⲤⲞⲨⲰⲚϤ ⲚϪⲈⲚⲒⲢⲰⲘⲒ ⲚⲦⲈⲠⲒⲘⲀ ⲈⲦⲈⲘⲘⲀⲨ ⲀⲨⲞⲨⲰⲢⲠ ⲈⲂⲞⲖ ϦⲈⲚϮⲠⲈⲢⲒⲬⲰⲢⲞⲤ ⲦⲎⲢⲤ ⲈⲦⲈⲘⲘⲀⲨ ⲞⲨⲞϨ ⲀⲨⲒⲚⲒ ⲚⲀϤ ⲚⲞⲨⲞⲚ ⲚⲒⲂⲈⲚ ⲈⲦⲦϨⲈⲘⲔⲎⲞⲨⲦ.
36 and were calling on Him that they might only touch the fringe of His garment, and as many as touched were saved.
ⲗ̅ⲋ̅ⲞⲨⲞϨ ⲚⲀⲨϮϨⲞ ⲈⲢⲞϤ ⲠⲈ ϨⲒⲚⲀ ⲘⲞⲚⲞⲚ ⲚⲤⲈϬⲒ ⲚⲈⲘ ⲠϢⲦⲀϮ ⲚⲦⲈⲚⲈϤϨⲂⲰⲤ ⲞⲨⲞϨ ⲞⲨⲞⲚ ⲚⲒⲂⲈⲚ ⲈⲦⲀⲨϬⲒ ⲀⲨⲚⲞϨⲈⲘ.
